Perfect date night. Arrived for our reservation at 6 pm to an almost empty house. Table right next to the window with an ocean view. It took a while for our waiter to come take our order, but when the food finally came, it was delicious. Our waiter was quite eccentric - he was friendly and gave great recommendations but would leave quickly after checking in on us. And a few times he even came by and just dropped something off without saying anything. He's a funny guy, and we grew to love him. His recommendation for the grilled prawns appetizer was amazing. The sea urchin pasta had a nice flavor of the sea - not the best uni I've had but it went well with the pasta. The halibut smelled amazing and went well with the peas and artichoke and lightly grilled onion - not terribly flavorful but it grew on me and I ended up really liking it especially after adding some salt. Our waiter convinced us to order the one dessert I hadn't been considering - the salted caramel sundae, and he was right that everything went very well together. The hotel is beautiful! This restaurant is located inside the hotel and the hostess was nice to us upon being seated. Our server on the other hand just seemed to be off and kind of had an attitude lol. We thought it was just to our table, but it was to the table next to us also. I wasn't impressed with the food, minus the oysters & the steak. The oysters were kumamoto oysters which are my favorite! I got the wagyu filet mignon steak and it was cooked to my favorite medium rare but the salmon was very underwhelming along with the Brussels sprouts. In terms of atmosphere and food, 1 Pico definitely deserves at least 4 stars, but my friends and I just had such a poor experience with one of our servers when we ate dinner here that I can't give more than 2 stars. We had two servers, and one of them -- Carlos, was really nice and always pleasant to interact with. The other server, Jonathan, was incredibly sassy. There was literally a moment in the night where my friend asked him to add something to our order, and he ignored him. For the rest of the night, we felt a very dismissive vibe from him that no diner should ever be the recipient of. The restaurant has everything else down, but the consistency in quality of service needs significant improvement. Carlos was great though, please give him a raise! read more

The reviews seem pretty complete regarding the food. So let me just make comments about the ambience. At lunch it is just the most comfortable, beautiful place to have a meal (too bad the food isn't as splendid as the views). It was a cool day so there weren't a lot of people on the beach, but as it got warmer it was cool to watch the skaters and bathers. The double windows by our table opened and there was a stiff breeze but the guys near us said it was too windy so we closed them. The decor is very Cape Cod, blue and gold striped couches, blue motif throughout, funny little wooden buoys on the table (?). The dining room is large, spacy, breezy, comfortable. There's a huge fireplace that was going and very pleasant when the weather was cool. This place is in Shutters Hotel which is at the deadend of Pico Blvd., right at the beach. There's a great little coffee shop in the lower section of the hotel, below sand level, but it got so crowded that now it's only open to hotel guests. Very pleasant place to have a meal, might as well try it even if the food isn't the greatest. (The desserts are, especially the lemon cheesecake with blueberry compote.) read more

The food is good! ***** Today I ordered the cauliflower soup and the steak. The soup was very creamy and rich. The steak could have used a bit more salt and pepper. They brought a steak sauce with it which I used a lot of. I was torn between the steak and the griled halibut. I should have got the halibut. I think it would have been a more interesting dish. I got my steak with salad instead of fries so that's what you'll see pictured. The steak was good, but it wasn't anything different or out of the ordinary. This was my first stop on my most recent visit to LA. The restaurant sits right off the beach and has a cute outdoor atmosphere, making it great for social distancing. We ordered from the prix fixe menu, and the food came out quickly. Everything was delicious. The downside of this restaurant was the service. Everything required and extensive wait (except the delivery of the food). It took forever to get water, order drinks, and order food. Additionally, there is little to no direction about where to check in or pick your car up from valet. People let us walk around aimlessly without providing any details. At this price point, I would expect better service. Despite the great food, this would likely be a better place to grab a drink and maybe an appetizer at the bar (once inside is open). read more

There's a lovely view of the beach outside the windows. Burrata Caprese - we were told the burrata is from Italy, cherry tomatoes, and basil pesto. It was tasty, but it didn't stand out from other places where we had the same. Sweet 100 Tomatoes - persian cucumbers, red onion, mint, parsley, lemon yogurt, pita chips. The lemon yogurt was a nice complement, mild, but helped balance all the flavors. Hamachi Tartar - avocado, chili lime vinaigrette. Very mild dish, fresh yellowtail Shakshuka Skillet - poached eggs, spicy tomato sauce, tahini. It looked like a hodgepodge of stuff, a single mush of flavor. It would've been nice to have some distinct flavors. Grilled Prime Steak Cobb - baby kale, gorgonzola, almonds, red onion, avocado, eggs, tomato. The dressing was nice and mild, eggs cooked perfectly. I ordered the steak medium raw, but got medium well, and it had no flavor. OK, but not worth $31. Wagyu Burger - brioche bun, caramelized onions, tomato, truffled cheese, french fries. It looked a bit messy, but I didn't try it. Soy Lattes were very good. Earl Grey Pannacotta with Passionfruit - the texture of the pannacotta was smooth and rich. Passionfruit topping was sweet, but not overwhelming. Dined at One Pico the other night for my parents' anniversary dinner. I loved the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant! It was upscale but still warm and comfortable with the mix of different tables and chair styles. Overall, the service was a little slow, but the staff was very friendly. After our waiter brought our drink orders, it took a while for him to come back to take our food order. However, he was very accommodating when I asked for no cheese on the risotto for the Mustard-marinated cod entrée -- when he brought it out, he went even further and had asked the chef to hold the butter on the dish as well...thank you!! I had the roasted beets as an appetizer and my parents both had the corn soup. While I had the cod entrée, my dad had the swordfish and my mom the salmon. They both absolutely loved their dishes! I liked my dishes -- they didn't blow me away in flavor, but it was good nonetheless. By the way, the ocean view is spectacular, the atmosphere is pleasant with the hotel lobby playing live music for some pre or post-dinner entertainment, and we will definitely be back! read more

This place is very nice! We had quite the view with our morning Lobster Special. There is valet parking available, in a very small area in the front of the hotel that this restaurant sits next to. Make sure you get your valet card stamped, it will save you some money. They give you a bread that consisted of a banana bread, cranberry bread and then regular french bread, all very good! For $55 you were able to choose from 2-3 appetizers, comes with coffee, orange juice and then the main course. I ended up getting the Lobster (half) shelled, sitting on a bed of ice. The lobster was fresh and it was just enough. My main dish was the Bucatini, with truffle, capers and lobster. I must say they gave me quite a but of lobster, I was actually quite shocked. It was a great dish! I was only able to eat about half of it. I would say overall, I really enjoyed this place, great view, food and friendly staff. read more

Wow. Have never been treated so rudely in my life. I don't know if Sean the manager is homophobic or what but we came to eat here with a bottle of wine and while the open table clearly says $30 they tried to charge us $45. A totally reasonable misunderstanding except that the waiter opened the bottle and then said he would check. Sean then came over and without even introducing himself just started berating us with the fact that "it's clearly $45 on our website every other restaurant does this and he will not dilute his wine list for less than $30." We eat out a lot and are happy to pay the corkage whatever it is but just the fact that there was a disconnect we wanted to rectify, and then to be treated like such absolute shit? For trying to eat at his restaurant? You'd think we'd shat on the floor. Literally without introducing himself "the corkage is $45 it says so on our website" and "opentable is. 3rd party I have no control over that." And??? You can't update it? Or honor it this one time? One word: YUM!! Came here last week for a birthday dinner & wow, I was impressed! First, we valet parked. Went inside the hotel & didn't know where One Pico was so I asked the lady at the desk. She was extremely helpful & very sweet. She escorted us to the restaurant. On the way the piano player even made eye contact & smiled. Super friendly people here. We had a red wine, forgot the name but it was tasty! Also had some appetizers amongst our party of 10. The kale salad was really good as was the cheese plate we ordered. I enjoyed my entree as well, the halibut. The presentation is nice, waiters are friendly & I'm sure in the day light the ocean view would be stunning! read more

Blueberry Honey Crepes - oh man, probably the most bland of the dishes. I wanted to cry into the cream. The blueberries weren't sweet. The dish needed more powdered sugar, or brown sugar, or just anything to add flavor. Comes w three crepes. Our table of 4 only ate 2 of them. Artisanal cheese - we're huge cheese lovers and this was tasty. You have to ask for bread separately tho. It's just the cheese and a handful of grapes. MAINS: 2 of us ordered the chicken & waffle. It was decent. Mom ordered the lobster Benedict, and said the lobster was over cooked and the potatoes were tough, as if they sat under a heating lamp since morning. Kid ordered the Wagyu burger and liked it. DRINKS: 2 orders of Quench, which were said to be tasty. Had to return the Pomegranate Cosmo - my teen said it tasted like medicine I last gave her when she was sick. I tasted it and it was sooo sour and inedible. We stuck to water. Our server was superb, wish I recalled his name to mention it specifically here. But he was really sweet and attentive. We were seated right away. Nice when your experience w staff is positive. I've been to 1 Pico many times and the food was always amazing but this time I had the filet mignon last night and there wasn't one ounce of flavor. You could've used a microscope and not have found any seasoning ...It's actually the worst steak I've ever had in my life..... I'm a steak connoisseur i've had amazing steaks in Paris, New York,Las Vegas even other locations in Los Angeles but this was a $72 disaster. Tried this restaurant with our friends who suggested it and had frequented it several times previously. Despite the nice location, the food here was not impressive. We decided to try it during DineLA and cannot begin to express how disappointed we all were. Not only were the portions ridiculously small but the chef decided to saturate our steaks in salt. Ordered a bottle of Merival Rose $85 a bottle We started with the water melon salad.. watermelon ( not sweet and ripe) feta cheese, cucumbers basil and grapefruit. Tossed with a light vinegret. Not my favorite a d the grapefruit was out if place. The lobster sandwich on a light brioche toast. Served with lettuce, tomato avocado and the most thick and delicious bacon is fabulous! $32 You must try this sandwich. Side of crispy herb fries yum Excellent service from the staff. Great atmosphere with wonderful views. We made reservations (which isn't very necessary, since it was pretty empty on a Sunday) to dine here and requested a table near the window. Once we arrived, we were seated right near a table in the dining area by the window, which was great! It was clean, beautiful, and intimate. Once our waiter arrived, we informed him that we just were gonna just do desserts and drinks, since we ate more than expected at a nearby restaurant and we were still pretty full. Our waiter was very friendly but informed us that we couldn't just order dessert and wine at the dining area and needed to go in the lobby area for that. I didn't mind, since everything up to this part was amazing...however, the lobby area was completely different. It was self seating only (luckily our waiter found us a nice spot though), the waiters in the lobby area weren't attentive at all, it was super loud and crowded, and all the tables near the window were taken. Ugh. The only plus was the piano player, which you could kind of hear through all the chatter. We ended up just ordering the Panna Cota (which was excellent!!!!--hence why I gave them 3 stars) and the Salted Caramel Sundae (which was very pleasant) and left. I feel like I wouldn't have been that disappointed if we had stayed in the dining area. We definitely would have enjoyed our experience more. read more

I'm not a big water drinker...so if I have to ask --that's an issue. Hire...some bussers. Server was good actually; very attentive at 1st. Then..he got distracted & busy. Then I had to beg for *water*. At one point, in this fine, expensive restaurant, I wanted to talk to him about the wine right. I see him at another two top and he says to them: "Let me just [go to our table for one sec.] and then I'll be 'right back' ". Okay; what that means is that I'm at IHOP I guess and I won't get to discuss wine! Really; hire more servers or more bussers. My fish was good; but my friend's swordfish a disappointment. You cannot be in this location; you cannot charge what you do and have any area be a disappointment. Seriously; buck up. read more

Showed up ON TIME for a reservation and told it would be 10-15 minutes so we sat at the bar and had a drink (bartender was great). 30 minutes go by and the hostess finally comes to us and says our table would be ready "soon," which was hilarious as we saw multiple two-tops check in and be sat immediately. We close out and another 15 minutes go by while we watch more two-tops get sat, one asking to move to the best table, which should have been ours as we have been waiting for now 45 minutes. Stay away front the 1Pico. The folks (hosts and waiters) don't get it. They are not welcoming, arrogant and cheap. Too bad as the location offers for a great opportunity to bring in high end clientele. The prices suggest you are in for a great experience. Unfortunately, the host seems to be pressured to come to work and it trickles down to the waiting staff. The bartender and busser's are very friendly. Almost seems like they try to make up the others shortcomings. If you want to pay relatively high prices for subpar service, this is your place. This restaurant is an extension of a great hotel. Not sure why management doesn't get it together and train these folks, or replace them with people that enjoy their job. Dinner at 5pm in 3/28 was a disaster. read more

Opted in for the Dine LA menu. $50 for an appetizer, entree and dessert. I shared and tried the tuna tartare, salmon, braised short ribs, molten lava cake and panna cotta. Tuna tartare was fresh and citrusy. Salmon tasted very fresh and skin was exceptionally crunchy and delicate. Braised short ribs were very tender but nothing special. Molten lava cake was very disappointing. There was no lava effect and was overly sweet. Skip! Panna cotta was the winner! It was good! Overall the food was good but for their price, it's just alright. You can find better food elsewhere that's cheaper but I guess I'm paying for their service and ambiance right? read more

I dined with four business associates last night. The food is NOT memorable although the view is. The lobster in my spaghetti was tough and chewy like a rubber ball. The clam dish had far more shells than clams. I asked another person in my party as we were leaving if they would come to this restaurant again and the answer was a firm no. The service was terrific I will say that and so I left a good tip. But I will spend my hundreds of dollars at another Santa Monica spot. read more
