Fun speakeasy for after-dinner drinks! Tucked away beneath another bar, it has a cool, intimate atmosphere with unique decor that makes the experience feel a little more special. The bartenders are always friendly, craft fantastic cocktails, and every drink is beautifully presented. Definitely a great spot to end the night.

Tonight's adventure to visit 10 1/4 on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was so completely worthwhile. You enter the raucous dive bar called the 35er and then go downstairs to find a phone booth. From there you pick up the phone and listen for the bar back to ask you how many are in your party. Generally it's advised that your party should be six or fewer--and its first come first served because the max capacity is 30. We thoroughly enjoyed our seats at the bar where we admired Riley's mixology skills and Marcus' stories about the history of the venue. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a Madcap to start with, followed by a Sazerac and a Pendennis Club (an off-the-menu apricot delight to the senses recommended by Riley). 10 1/4 has everything you could want in a speakeasy from the cool way you gain entrance, to the expertise of seasoned bartenders, to the intimate dimlit setting with 1930s style music in the background to set the mood. We may not be locals, but we'll definitely be back!!

I'm 100% here for the ambiance and milk punch because it is super easy to drink as long as you like mint. Especially if you like mint and chip ice cream :) I came with a group of 8 and it was a bit odd fitting into this space. I recc going as a small group (4 or less, 2 is perfect because they have there half tables...) Bartenders are super chill and really know their stuff. Overall, would come here again

A hidden gem tucked beneath 35er in Old Town Pasadena -- just pick up the phone in the booth to get in! The space is cozy and filled up quickly around 8:30, so arriving early is a good idea. The drinks were creative and well-balanced. I especially loved the Menta Milk Punch -- smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. Definitely worth a visit if you're into speakeasy vibes and unique cocktails.

Went here to get drinks on a Wednesday night. We couldn't figure out where the stairs down to the entrance was so we were standing around until another group walked by & we followed them. Down the stairs, there is a "phone booth" where you pick up the phone & tell them how many in your party. You push open the wall of the phone booth & voila! It's a very small, dimly lit speakeasy with about 6 or 7 small tables. There's counter seating but there was a group of people in their running gear - I assume they're part of the Pasadena Pacers that I saw running earlier. I found that odd, I wouldn't be going for drinks after I ran because I'd be sick but then again, I'm out of shape! LOL! They had some specialty cocktails & mocktails, didn't particularly find mine that great. The decor was African Safari?? This place seems to have regulars that hang out for a drink & leave. Overall, it's interesting but I don't think I would make an effort to come back unless I had out-of-town friends who wanted to bar hop. And with the stairs, it's not handicap accessible.

This is a cute little Speakeasy tucked away in the bottom floor of the always fun 35er bar. Walk into the phone booth, pick up the phone, and wait until someone answers and gives you access in. It's very small so it does get full fast. The bartender was polite, not overly friendly, but with him being the only one making drinks, I can understand why the niceties aren't all that important. I can't remember the name of the drink I ordered, but my friend had a dirty martini and we were both happy with our drinks. I would come again, though it would not be my first choice as far as a speakeasy. I would probably just stick to the 35er upstairs.

Ok, this place was such an amazing hidden gem I almost don't want to write a review for it and want to keep it my little secret. Speakeasy under the 35er that holds about 30 people. Went on a Saturday night and it surprisingly wasn't too too packed. Bartenders were great, drinks were great, atmosphere was great. I can't say enough good things about this place. Absolutely want to sneak back!

coming into 10 1/4 was such a unique experience! if my friend didn't know about this place, I would have never known about a place like this. 10 1/4 is located within the 35er bar downstairs past the tiki bar. inside, the location is relatively small so I would recommend coming a little earlier if you have a bigger party, but people do come in and out relatively often. I got the floradora and it looked beautiful and tasted great! it was fruity and refreshing and wasn't too strong for me as I'm not a huge fan of strong alcoholic drinks. I will definitely be returning with some friends again!

Dimly-lit, somewhat secret speakeasy. Coin/resin countertop bar. Drinks that you wouldn't find anywhere else in the city (I don't drink but my friends who do told me), and exceptional customer service with reasonable drinks. What else could you ask for? Somewhat of a secret entrance, but all I'll say is that there is a a phone booth and you must do something in it to be granted access to this exclusive speakeasy.

Edder was the bartender of the night and was awesome! We loved the Menta Milk Punch which tasted like mint chocolate, and Siesta cocktails. We had shots of mezcal too! Call the phone booth to be let in! Find a cozy seat at a table or the bar. Arrive early to get a seat on a Saturday night! Will definitely be back!

My favorite little happy place to visit in the evening and take friends to and watch them be delighted by the discovery as well. The cocktail with oat milk (forgot its name) is my absolute favorite. It's such a surprise! Several people who have tried it also loved it and said they will be getting that one next time. The ambience here is pretty special. It feels secretive and magical and relaxing, and so many other things, all at once. The bartender is pretty interesting as well, and if he's not busy, does enjoy having a little chat about the place or his cocktail inventions. PS. The coin/resin bar is gorgeous, especially with the dim amber lighting!

Well I'm surprised to be the first one reviewing this and I feel kinda like I'm breaking a rule because it's the most legit speakeasy I've been to in a while but imma speak hard: this place is legit. Make this one of your first stops in the area on a night of drinking if you can't handle your liquor because they don't let in people who are noticeably drunk. Past the billiards tables and down the stairs in the noticeably rowdier 35er, you make a private call without needing to know the number. They ask for the number in your party and the rest is up to fate. Good luck. I've been here a few times and the drinks have all been amazing. I've only ordered vodka cocktails but my friend ordered one with yam and gin last night and it was actually delicious. Once I talked to the owner and he explained that they named the 35er after the 35¢ they used to serve well drinks at, and how this bar was named 10 1/4 for the same reason...a dime and a quarter. Clever. read more

My girlfriends and I went downstairs from the 35'er bar, then went into the Tiki bar and realized it's not the right one, and turned around and found the phone booth to enter. The place was small and cozy, decor was interesting, and the bar had lots of drinks. Glad that they had so many whiskey options! read more

Such a cool speakeasy! I stumbled across this speakeasy downstairs of 35er last year and recently returned. You go through a telephone booth to enter the speakeasy. Although small, it has a dark and intimate ambiance. The bartenders are passionate about making the drinks and put so much time and effort to curate each cocktail. You can smell the whiskey as you are waiting. My favorite so far has to be their expresso martini! read more

My kind of speakeasy. With affordable drinks and a great ambiance. Much rather prefer this place over others in the surrounding area. No loud music and dim lights. Focus on the drinks and conversations. Service was quick with one bartender. Location isn't all that big and seating is limited. read more

Very cooooool spot!! Located at the 35er make sure you give find the hidden telephone. Pick it up and say how big your party is. It's very dark when you get there so keep that in mind. Service was decent but drinks do take a while to come out. Now, my only complaint is the drinks are expensive for what you're paying but they are tasty. Our drinks were half ice :/. I would come check it out again. read more

A tiny speak easy underneath 35er. An interesting twist to an otherwise typical pub. Take the stairs going down from across the bar and pick up the telephone to state how many in your party and be given the access to enter the door. Each drink was carefully crafted and the prices are not so bad considering the location. My espresso martini was every bit as heavenly and I appreciate the coffee shavings on top. My friend's negroni was also delish. This was such a good discovery tonight. read more

Such a cool little prohibition style speakeasy. In the back of 35er next to the pool table there are stairs that go down. Pick up the phone and tell who answers how many and you'll be granted access. Cool dark lighting and dungeon vibes. Was pretty busy on a Wednesday night. Great drinks by a skilled mixologist. Huge selection of interesting whiskeys. The old fashioned was good. Prices are on par with a bar of this caliber. Great for intimate dates or groups of 4 tops. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Truly hidden below the 35er in Old Town Pasadena, it is a spectacular example of what speakeasies are like. The dark room and candle lit tables made the experience very intimate and I thoroughly enjoyed the setting. The drinks were also very tasty. I ordered my first penicillin and loved it; I will definitely be ordering more of those in the future. The bartender was friendly and expertly prepared mine and my friend's drinks quickly. The only downside is that the drinks are a little on the pricier side in my opinion - $16 for a classic cocktail and $18 for a specialty. Nevertheless, this place is worth a try and I would definitely come back. read more

Super great speakeasy in the basement of 35er. Ive been to 35er a ton before and had never known this place exists. They make some really fun cocktails and it's a joy to even just watch the bartenders make them. Place has great mood lighting and it's easy to just chat and enjoy the vibe. Looking for whiskey spots and 10 1/4 did not disappoint. This hidden little speakeasy definitely brings you back to the prohibition era, from the secret location, inconspicuous telephone booth entrance, windowless room, and, my favorite, nostalgic jazz and blues music playing from an old school radio (yes, I'm 100 years old). What a beautiful hidden spot this is. Enter the 35er and walk down to the end and take the stairs down and make the call at the phone booth. The ambience and decor were so beautiful. Owners have done a really nice job on this. The bartender was clearly experienced and knowledgeable in his craft. I liked the fair oaks and didn't care for the derby. The bartender made me a lemon drop instead which was pretty good. My only complaint would be that they should have a wider selection of signature cocktails. I would have ordered a third cocktail but I didn't really care for any of the the other cocktails on the menu. read more

Loveeee this speakeasy! It has such a nice quiet vibe to it. Also, i'm not sure where you find these bartenders working but I have absolutely loved the ones that I have met I wouldn't even want to call them bartenders but mixologists instead because you can tell they genuinely care about the quality of the drink. Fun spot to grab one drink! I went on a weekday. There was only one bartender and took a long time to get a drink and having to wait for ten minutes or so each time takes away from the experience if you have to wait a while each time and the place was not full that night! I don't know if they have more people to serve other days. The atmosphere is cool though with dim lights! The prices of the drinks slightly above average nothing crazy though. I would go back. If you enter a kind of scary (straight and bro-y) bar, you're in the right place. Walk towards the back where there is a staircase by the pool tables and head down. You'll see a phone booth where you'll enter, pick up the phone and let the person know how many are in your party. It's a cute and fun idea. Once inside, the space is small and dark. Grab a table and order at the bar. The bar itself is cute. Drinks were not bad but expensive. Didn't feel like you were getting our money's worth. We stayed for one drink and went elsewhere for another round. We talked about how cool it would be if it was a tiki bar/tiki themed since there aren't many tiki bars in the area. Overall I'd say go just to check it out but I don't think I'd go back. read more

If you're a whiskey lover, this place is for you. The selection here is amazing and the bartenders are very knowledgeable and friendly. It's a tiny space but it doesn't feel crowded. There's no food service so be sure to eat before you stop by. If i lived in the area, i'd be a regular at 10 1/4. read more

Drinks were great and bartender worked hard. Not sure if it was a busy night or they were short staffed but they should have more than one bartender behind the bar. It would take 20 minutes to wait at the bar to put in an order. Definitely would go again tho! read more

I am rating this for ambiance. It's dark intimate cool speak easy type feel. However for our experience this is a cocktail lounge for the younger crowds with maybe not quite an experienced palate. Their signature old fashioned is with JD. Our drinks were ok at best, and I am sure it is the liquors they were using to make the drinks. Over all, fun idea but definitely not for a person who frequents whiskey or bourbon bars. We got no food and for sure the service was under par read more

Riley was a FANTASTIC bartender! Fast, accurate, friendly, entertaining! We loved sitting at the bar enjoying his concoctions and entertaining us! Damn I wish I found this place before moving away. I lived in the area for years and my friend heard about this place my last week before leaving the state. The staff knows SO much about their whiskey stock, great selection. It's a cozy downstairs little spot you have to make a call into a phone booth before being let into a wall. Very neat. And for when we went on a Thursday, it was laid back and quiet. My preferred whiskey experience is more of a lounge sipping vibe with the close friends so this was excellent. read more

Had a small group of friends come through and it was peak busy but my goodness, Riley the bartender was AMAZING! My friend Vicente isn't the easiest when it comes to his drink orders but Riley handled it with such ease and his drink making? EXCEPTIONAL! I could tell he was dealing with some roudy guests but it didn't stop him from giving great service the whole time! William, Vicente and myself will be back for a visit Riley! read more

"The Speakeasy" is located in Old Pasadena. There is a large multi-story parking garage right…read morearound the corner. The place has some intrigue as you need to know a password to gain entry. I was pleasantly surprised when I sent an email to the address on the website and received a reply with the password in a little over thirty minutes. After parking, we didn't have any problems finding the entrance even though it is not marked. Look for the big wood double doors and doorman standing in front. After giving him the password, he opened the doors and we walked in. We were surprised in several ways. The place is way bigger than I would expect for a place named "The Speakeasy". And at 6:30pm on a Sunday, we were the only guests inside. Only one other couple came in during the 30 minutes we were there. I would assume they are a lot busier on Friday and Saturday night. It is dimly lit, and very red inside. The bar is large with many bottles of liquor on display and many seats. The rest of the space is one large area that must have at least 20 tables, and the ceiling is high. It gives off more of a nightclub vibe than a speakeasy vibe. I tried the Naked & Famous cocktail which has two of my favorite spirits (Vida mezcal, aperol, yellow Chartreuse, lime, $18). It was nicely balanced with a good mix of smoke and herbal flavor. She had the Pablo's Poison (Altos reposado tequila, strawberry, lime, jalapeno, elderflower, $17). The jalapeno flavor really stood out with strawberry and elderflower in the background. They have a good cocktail menu with almost twenty cocktails, as well as a food menu with ten items. Walk up to the bar to order your drinks. Jeremy, the manager, and the female bartender whose name who I didn't get were nice. We aren't in Pasadena very often, and while they have a good cocktail menu, I don't know if we would return. We were expecting more.

Where the ambient noise isn't so loud that you really need to raise your voice to talk. As a single person who came with a book to read and study... it's dim lighting so I had to make use of candlelight. This really is meant to be more of a social spot. I came in on a weekday to catch the Suntory promotion, which came with some nice collectibles to pair with your highball. I feel like every cocktail I've had here so far has a great sense of balance and technique. I'll probably come back and try their omakase course of cocktails at some point. Is it "kami no glass?" (The Glass of God) - I haven't found one that has touched my soul to that extent, but they do have an extensive list to explore. The food menu consists of luxurious bites from burrata, crudo, bone marrow, oysters, and the like. Gourmet pairings for your expensive tastes.

She ended up grabbing a lime herself from the garnish tray--which I understand isn't ideal--but the response we got was completely out of line. The male bartender became immediately hostile and started aggressively cursing at my friend. When I calmly asked the female bartender if this was normal behavior, he inserted himself into the conversation and said, "she put her fucking hand in the fucking jar," in a very confrontational tone. I tried to de-escalate the situation and respectfully explained that there was no reason to speak to us that way, but he continued the hostility and ultimately told us to "get the fuck out." At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. What made this especially disappointing is that this has never been our experience here before. We've always enjoyed this bar and have had positive interactions with the regular staff. If this had been my first visit, I would not come back. I understand that what my friend did wasn't appropriate, but it absolutely did not justify being yelled at and cursed out. I hope management addresses this, because this kind of behavior is not reflective of the bar I've come to know.

I was here for lunch and walked into a small but impressive space, elegantly decorated, with both a dining and bar area. My seating was in the latter, not on bar stools, but at a table for two, because I was dinning solo. For appetizers, I chose the scallop aguachile. There were two small portions, each in a plastic shell, sitting on a bed of ice. While I am not fond of aguachiles because of the general overdose of citrus in them, this one really surprised me. While there were only small pieces of scallop, it had an abundance of small cubed cucumber pieces that provided the nicest contrast of crunch, juice and texture. The citrus was mild and well balanced. A wonderful start. I selected the fried fish burger for my entree. The fish was mildly battered, yet lightly crisp, to highlight the big pieces of fresh, flaky and moist fish that were literally, falling off the burger. It was a good stack, with minimum lettuce, tomato and sauce, so as to not take it away from the star, the succulent, perfectly prepared, flavorful fish. The bun was also well crafted, nice and fluffy on the inside, not dry, with a buttery brown on the outside. Easily one of the best fish burgers I have had. For dessert (the third course), I had to have the profiteroles with ice cream. One was with vanilla, the other with strawberry. Both came topped with dark chocolate sauce, that had hardened by the time of eating. A superbly assembled concoction, that provided the crackle and exhilarating mouth feel. I cannot remember the last time where at a Dine LA restaurant, all three lunch courses were so well presented and satisfying. One was better than the other. Overall, it was worth the drive, for an extraordinary dining experience.

I had a great time at 10 1/4 speakeasy!! This place is tucked away on the bottom floor of the 35er Bar in Pasadena. The whole experience starts with a bit of adventure--you head to the back, walk down the stairs, and lift a telephone receiver to be greeted by the bartender. If the place isn't packed, you're in for a great time! I happened to visit on a "Whiskey Wednesday" where they were featuring Turkey 101, but what really impressed me was their extensive whiskey selection, including WhistlePig and even Pappy Van Winkle. Whether you're a whiskey connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a well-crafted drink, they've got you covered. The bartender was a highlight of the night--hilarious, efficient, and on top of his game, even though the place was pretty busy. He made the whole experience even better. The ambiance definitely hits that speakeasy vibe, perfect for grabbing drinks with friends.
