I have gotten glasses here since I was 7. Quality has never faltered. The people saying that it's too expensive have clearly never looked up the retail price of frames online and don't understand the materials and labor differences it takes to make a pair of Mykita or Lindberg glasses as opposed to something plastic or made from stainless steel. Not to mention most of the companies trying to sell you glasses for cheap have terrible labor, manufacturing, and customer service practices. If you can't afford it, then please just calmly take your business somewhere else. The opticians and the optometrists, especially the lady optometrist, are the nicest and the most hardworking people. Placing a bad review because of a clear language and culture barrier is weird! You won't find anywhere else that will only charge $50 for an eyeglasses exam w/out insurance. Not only that, but they will never put cheap, plastic lenses in your glasses. To speak from personal experience, I have had TERRIBLE optometry experiences at OTHER establishments. One time, I went to a fully English-speaking, opthamologist-staffed, in-house optician establishment. They somehow managed to get my prescription wrong even after I told them that I couldn't see out of one eye at the time because of a cornea abrasion, then they put in an offensively blue-purple bluelight filter on my glasses, and while I was only changing lenses at the time, I noticed that they had really ugly frames. I was pretty desperate for help then because of said cornea abrasion and was in a different state, but if I had the choice I would have just gone to the tried and true!!! Support local businesses. Really cherish your eyes, even if it means spending more money and investing a little more into something that's lighter, less likely to corrode, and more likely to last you longer than GlassesUSA. Oh my goodness!!! So like I was looking for a place to get new glasses because mine broke ON A SUNDAY BEFORE CHURCH!!! So I yelped places open on Sundays that will do the eye exam and check out new frames. To my surprise, this place did my eye exam for like $30. As I was walking out, the doctor asks what frames I wanted. So I expected to get my frames with lenses in about 2 weeks. MIRA PAPA....the eye exam took longer than me getting my new frames and lenses!!! WHAT!!! YES!!! I got my new frames and lenses in 15 minutes!!! Crazy huh!!! WARNING. the optometrist wont exam you if you dont order contacts with him. I went just to get my prescription so i can order online and he straight up just told me to leave because he doesn't like people ordering online. So messed up. I was wearing my last contacts that expires today and because of this fool i was about to go blind with expired contacts in my eye. I had to drag my ass all the way to lacanada (because i use to live there and the doctor over there is so chill none of this bullshit). He gave me prescription and had NO PROBLEM with me ordering online. I've been a loyal customer since 4 prescription glasses ago. I can't remember how I came across this place but I do recall needing a change in frames. Desperately. They are fluent in Korean but can speak fairly good English -- at least good enough for me to understand! Customer service here is what keeps me coming back. Not only do they pull out frames that you want to try on but they seem to work around your style, your face shape, etc. I have never not liked a pair of glasses here. I even got my prescription Ray Bans here. Prices and styles vary of course but they've got a nice and large selection, I would even say for all styles. The eye doc knows what he's doing and he'll even throw in a couple of good tips for you. The people are welcoming, patient, and charming. Plus, they'll never try to persuade you into purchasing something just because. This is one of the places I would recommend every single friend of mine to come to. I recently switched to them and they've been nothing but amazing! They'll text you notifications once youglasses/contacts are ready. They have a pretty good selection of glasses and sunglasses as well. Update: Came here on a Saturday - they had two staff helping out one customer. I waited there seated and no one came to help me. Just as I was about to leave they come pretending to extend their hand out to see my glasses. Also this is my second bad experience here -- they will make horrible recommendations on the styles of glasses/sunglasses. Avoid. Waste of my time. read more

A great place to get some glasses... In our case we bought some frames elsewhere, and had this shop put the lenses in. Even though they were putting in high-index lenses, it came out to waaaayyy less then 1/3 then Oliver Peoples was trying to charge... which was supposedly even including a discount. (OP tried to play it like their lenses didn't come to them that cheap, and they had no choice but to charge so much....) Very friendly employees, who look like they tend to speak better Korean, but I'm sure they'll be happy to help out anyone who stops by. Best part? Glasses are worked on in house, and are ready in about 1-1.5 hours. No reason to go to places like Lens Crafters when you have shops like this around... read more

They see you and treat you as money not as customer. I got glasses from this place and never again. They tried to be so nice and gave me all that sweet talks to earn my business. Told me t that they will take care of all the insurance part and I will be receiving checks from ins. Company as reimbursement. Paid over 1k with my card for two pairs of glasses. Received one check from insurance company over a month later (had to ask them about it, they never put in an order for the reimbursement and lied that they did). Waited for the 2nd reimbursement which never happend, Called them about it and they said "you need to let us know after you received your 1st check so we can ask for your 2nd check." Which they never mentioned before. After a long wait, finally got the check. I undertand that there can be mistakes and delays but not being straight forward isn't cool. They also changed attitude when I called them about the reimbursement. They sounded very bothered and annoyed. Never gave me straight forward answer. Oh! and they over charge for contacts. They charged for eye exam fee which they also were reimbursed from the insurance company and gave us some samples saying "your contacts are really expensive because of you eye condition". Checked on line, it was 1/3 of the cost, even cheaper than the eye exam fee I had to pay out of my own pocket (again on top of the exam fee that they received from the ins. Company). They say it like they are helping you to save so much money by using insurance with them. But that is not the case. Don't get fooled by their fake awkward smile. read more

I've been a loyal customer at this place for a few years now. The owners are very honest and nice and they are very patient as I can get quite picky with my fames selections! They even cleaned my other glasses (purchased elsewhere) while I shopped for my frames. They also have different variety of designer frames that are suitable for Asian faces which is a huge plus! Only reason I can't give 5 stars rating is because of the optometrist in the backroom. He is absolutely RUDE. I don't know how else to describe my experience. The owners apologized my unpleasant experience with the optometrist but come on! this optometrist is creating bad reps for the business. Cheaper than insurance. If you have insurance but need the 2-3 times pressurized lens with all the works, just get free frame and crummy lens for free, then drop by 1001 optical to get the lens. Before lasik, I needed triple pressurized lens for my glasses and it would only cost me $80 for a pair with all the works where as the place where it takes insurance would quote me $160. They do an awesome job so no headaches after getting a new glasses. Highly recommended read more

Probably the best place to get glasses. Cheaper than other places, and better customer service and better quality than other places. I changed 2 of my designers sunglasses to prescription glasses. Other place told me they can't do the same lens color because usually designer's sunglasses has gradation, so it's more difficult to do it, also other places usually charges extra $ for UV, oversized frames, and thicker lenses. My eye sights are -4.5, which is really bad, so I usually have to pay extra because lenses get thicker. But this place gave me one good price for everything, including gradation (pretty close to the original color of the lenses),and UV for oversized sunglasses. As long as your sunglasses are not too oversized, they do pretty good job. My sunglasses are super clear now. It's more clear than my regular glasses. And if your glasses are too loose, they'll fix it. read more

I wish i could give 0 star. Today i went to pick up glasses i ordered almost month ago even though they told me it would only take 10-14 days. and i paid high price to get the better lens. I tried the glasses and told them it was uncomfortable . I felt like when i use my glasses i felt things were moving up and down. They told me that i should get use to it in week. They dont speak English and dont explain the product they selling. They should mention the side effect of the lens before selling anything.!!! next week i am going to this place to check the place if my glasses wont work for for me. i will update the review after my next visitation. i would recommend that none should go there because they even give the product that pleases the customers. read more

The optometrist was the first to ever mention that my brand of contacts were bad for me and could be harmful in ten years! Kind of important to know and I'm disappointed no one told me before! There was also very minimal contact lens shaming when I admitted to wearing them way past the recommended time, which I appreciated. The lady helping me with the contact lens purchase was very helpful. Comparable to prices online and much easier process. I was in and out, including the eye exam, in about half an hour. They have valet parking but they let me.park in an open spot in front of the store since it was slow. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS OPTOMETRY SHOP AND DOCTOR. This place is TRASH, focusing on what feels like taking as much money from you as possible without care for the patient. I will keep this shorter than the incident actually was and keep out the employee's and doctor's excuses and antics. As intelligent consumers, you can make your own conclusions. I went in for an eye exam, and explained that I would like to know my pupillary distance (PD) for glasses that I would purchase elsewhere online (www.warbyparker.com; $95 for frames + lenses). Dr. Kent Jin Hoon Chang said that after the exam, the employees in the shop would help me with that. He also told me to take out my contacts because they would give me new ones (which they never did in the end). In the shop, the employees told me about their "contact lenses deals" and I said I wasn't interested at this time. I browsed some of their glasses, but at the end said I would like to get my PD. I told them they didn't have glasses in my price range, since I found a likable pair already for $95 with lenses. They couldn't believe the price I was getting and the employees REFUSED my request to get my PD. They said they only take PD measurements "if you buy your glasses or contacts from us". I asked for the reason and received no explanation--just that they wouldn't do it. I was angry because I asked about receiving this measurement (which takes 7 seconds to do) during my exam. I said I wouldn't pay because they were not giving me the services I had requested. After the thought of losing payment for such an easy/simple request, they took my PD. I left the store, pretty frustrated. After driving a few blocks, I realized that I had forgotten to get the detailed invoice receipt and my actual prescription slip. I drove back and this time Dr. Kent Chang was there. I told Dr. Chang and the employees that I needed my receipt for records and to file my reimbursement with insurance. INSTEAD of giving me my prescription, DR. CHANG walked over to my prescription and wrote on the bottom, "NOT VALID FOR ONLINE DISPENSARY." This immediately made me angry. I asked why did he do that. His best response was that he "didn't want to deal with any problems." He said that buying my frames online can cause "discomfort and pain, that we [Dr. Chang and 1001 Optical] don't want to deal with." I told him he couldn't just limit my prescription like that, especially after the fact I had already paid for bargained for services. I questioned how there could be problems, and why I would seek him for purchases I made elsewhere. He gave the dumbest, illogical explanations while standing way behind the counter in a smug attitude. In my opinion, Dr. Chang and 1001 Optometry are really sneaky, deceptive, and they work together specializing in GREED. I believe he realized the mistake he made, because he TOOK MY PRESCRIPTION AND RIPPED IT IN FRONT OF ME. He then told the staff to refund me my money, which they did and I left. This was near an investigation with the California Optometry Board, but because he refunded me my money there was not much else for me to do. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. read more

Been a customer here for about half a decade for contacts. I am disappointed to find out that they refused to refund me when i discovered that the new contacts I ordered were somewhat blurry and uncomfortable. The original boxes were not open. I only tried on the samples. They forced me to contact Johnson&Johnson (contacts supplier) directly which took weeks instead of the store handling it. Johnson&Johnson called the store back and then I was issued a refund from the store after. The store doesn't seem to care for their loyal customers. This place used to be great with pricing and the quality as well, but recently for the past year or so, the employees have become extremely fraudulent and have been up quoting glasses to an ridiculous amount. $560 for a pair of sunglasses? trust me, i went to a different optometrist, because i bought mine for less than half the price. My family have been their customers for over 5-6 years, but consider us gone. We wont be doing business with this company anymore. This place sucks. They act like they're doing you a favor by "giving you extras" as a deal, but it's really not when you do price comparisons. They double the price on the glasses they have and the selection they have is all the same trendy crap. Their parking is also very limited and shared with the restaurant next door. The guy who does the eye exams is very condescending and acts like he's a god. Dude, get over yourself, you're not the only Ophthalmologist in town. The owners are always there too trying to up sell whatever crap is on hand for the month, but really you need to pay attention to the prices. Also, if you want to know what your eyesight is, you should be able to get a copy of it. I was told it was against the law for them to give it to me. I checked, it's not against the law. It's against the law for THEM to NOT provide it to me since their MY eyes. Fight back and call the BBB. That's what I did. I used to like this place years ago but over time, they changed. The girl (there's older woman and somewhat young one and I'm referring to the somewhat younger one) has absolutely the worst way with customers. She doesn't explain things properly and she talks to customers in the most rude way you can think of. The tone of her voice, to the way she talks tells me she doesn't know anything about customer service nor does she care about her customers. Greeting customers and saying bye to them is the most basic thing about customer service but she doesn't know any of it. I also didn't like that they gave me store credit for money I didn't use. I initially paid for certain contact lenses and there was money left over which I assumed they'd give it back to me through the credit card but they said I can only get store credit. When I'm done using my store credit here, i am definitely switching and making sure none of my friends go here either. read more

I highly recommend 1001 Optical for all beginners and non- first timers ! The owner ( a korean man) is really sweet and the rest of his employees are too ! If the examination person sounds mean to you at first, relax, he's joking and you'll feel comfortable around him! He's only strict if you have some risky ideas and he wants you to be safe ! I got my first time contacts here and although I kept miserably failing, one o the employees stayed beside me and kept teaching me over and over again and was always smiling. They also open at 10 am and is one of the few optical shops that open on Sunday ! I got out of there in about an hour with my examination and my countless times of putting on contacts !
