The staff was working furiously to keep up with the number of guests but they are a little understaffed. Even so, we never felt neglected and we were checked on regularly. They have lots of benedicts on the menu and we chose the California and the corned beef hash. The California was good but the corned beef was excellent. This place is consistent with great food and open to food moderations which can be rare these days. The draw is that there is not a lot of overturn that I have noticed being a local. I always have the same waitress, Christa, and I love that she remembers my order and my specifics! When it 100 degrees out I like that this lady can joke around. My coworker an I went for lunch today at 11:40 AM , (only two tables occupied out side) when I asked to the server Katie if we can seat at any table she said, "sure" in a unpolite manner, then she trough the menus at the table with out any "welcoming manners" I ordered a coffee and she bring me the coffee in a used dirty cup ( pictures attached before an after) when I asked her why my cup has a stained ring inside she said "Do you want me to change the cup or you don't want anything" But not only my coffee cup, also was a bad chipped and dirty plastic cup for my coworker water as well (see pictures attached before and after), Then when she passed by our table and keep walking by, I mentioned to her we are ready to order, she turn back an pointing at other table and she yelled at me" They where here first" with no courtesy. We observed how she talked to other costumers using words like " honey" "sweetheart" or simple attentive way. I was there with all my family last month and we were please with the plate taste and service, but today I was really bad, we received a different and unhealthy service (COVID-19 risk) we feel mistreated, my coo worked mentioned that we should leave, but we did not have any more time to go other place and return to work on time. I'm liking this diner. We came in today. Our first time. They were running a wait but Paul (the waiter working the counter) noticed the desperation in our faces and offered us immediate seating right there. I guess everyone else was waiting for a full sized table. The counter was fun. Our kids were able to watch them cooking the meals. Their cooks are synchronized in their work. I ordered their Greek Omelette. It was good but had too little cheese in it. One of my particular pet peeves with omelettes is when they sprinkle the cheese over the top rather than placing it inside where it has a chance to melt. That's just what they do here but thankfully only with the feta portion of this omelette. Still---just not enough cheese. Their wheat toast is a rather flavorless squaw type bread. Their coffee is okay. Not great but hit the spot. The blueberries we ordered turned out to be frozen blueberries--soggy and dripping wet. We sent them back. The best part of our breakfast was the gracious and hardworking attitude of our waiter (Paul). We'll be back. read more

Had some car issues and stopped in Encinitas to check out auto zone. Found this little place and was no disappointed. We got a seat outside to watch the passers by. I chose the special which was surf and turf Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was light and creamy and didn't overshadow the egg, crab cake or tri-tip. It came with a nice bowl of fruit. I went in with a relative and our server was not only negligent, but rude. She was so rude from the start that we ended up deciding on another restaurant because we had been made to feel so uncomfortable. My relative left a review that the owner then verbally assaulted her over and "banned" her from the restaurant. It is definitely a staple of Encinitas but not for the food necessarily at all, it's only because well...it's there. This was a few years ago and I've never returned. Had the owner took the issue with understanding and a want to correct the mistake then I definitely would've, but as it stands ( and you can verify below with his responses to other unsatisfied customers, calling them "fake reviews", or "antifa" ??? a fun new Trumpian way to dismiss facts is just calling it fake when it's not what you want to hear). I think the server's attitude reflects the style that the restaurant is run. Bad look. I'm all about keeping the more and more gentrified Encinitas funky, but damn, that was by far my worst restaurant experience. This will anger some loyal customers. I recently went 101 Diner for the first time in 10+ years. To me it was one of the most disgusting establishments I have eaten at in all of San Diego. I know they have been there for years and there are many friends of mine that love it and go there weekly. The counter, the menu's, the sugar dispenser were all dirty and sticky. Don't dare venture to the bathroom/back door area if you have a weak stomach. I'm quite shocked this place passes health inspections. The food is good, the service was never an issue, but I lost my appetite quickly after seeing the bathroom and the sticky dispenser. This place has not changed since the Nixon Administration and needs to be completely redone. Maybe when I was a college kid hungover and didn't care about what shape the place was in, this place was great. read more

When we go camping in South Carlsbad State Beach, we always come here for breakfast. The egg Benedict and the crepes are to die for! Besides the regular food in the menu, there are specials they put on the black board. This time there were Cardiff crack egg bene and Banana Nutella Crepe. We ended up having breakfast here every morning. The place is small so get here early if you want to avoid the crowd. read more
