I generally like this place because it is very close by so it is convenient, however, I called today to get my 95 jeep smogged and they sad they could not smog anything 95 and older as their equipment is down. But I know the real reason is because it is not worth it to them to smog older cars. It takes longer and the payoff is not as good as getting 5 newer vehicles done in the same timeframe. I realized last minute that I needed to smog my car. I looked up quick smog check facilities and this one came up. I stopped by and they were able to fit me in without an appointment, though I'm sure appointments are recommended. I used the coupon online without any issue. My maintenance light was on but my car still passed! (Not the "check engine" light. That's an automatic fail!) 15 mins later, RJ was done with the smog check and everything was finished! I was able to renew my car registration today! RJ was very helpful and knowledgeable about the process. He wasn't annoyed at my lack of appointment and was pleasant to deal with. I filled out a short form handed my DMV paperwork and went to the waiting room. I don't think I was there longer than 15 - 17 minutes. He said your all set to go I paid him and out I went. Have been here several times over the years to get our two vehicles smog checked. Had an appointment this morning at 8:30 and they were right on time, done in 15 minutes. I will continue to come here and will recommend them to anyone who might ask. One disappointment : they advertise DMV assistance but do not post their fees. Also, "just down the block" from the smog shop is not very accurate at all. Smog shop is off College while DMV shop is north on Cleveland about 2 miles ( north of Coddingtown ). If you have the time and are the least bit computer savvy just renew your registration on line. $27.00 seemed a bit stiff. read more

This establishment is always busy, so an appointment would be a convenient route to any doing a smog check. They did my smog in 15-20 min. at a lower service price than other competitor even a re-test smog which unfortunately I had. Friendly staff and separate waiting area. I would recommend 101express smog and would go back to this station for future smog checks. ***Tip if you're doing your smog and your car already have a mileage or has a recent disconnected battery. Use a OBDII scanner that has a smog readiness feature. I've been doing my smog on two cars for years and often I worry for a failed smog that I new the cars was either repaired or had a battery disconnect close to a smog inspection. They would just tell you to drive the car for a few miles. But that is only partly true. Every car make has a drive cycle. Look for it in the web or YT while using your OBDII scanner. Until you get all green test for smog readiness. I've read many articles that owners drive for 2k miles and still failed because a recent reset in the O2 or EVAP computer in the car that wasn't ready yet. I got a drive cycle in mine ready in under an hour. read more

Had a great experience here! Called around 1 to make appointment that day to get my car smogged and they were able to fit me in at 4:30. I showed up 10 min early and didn't expect them to take me in yet but they got my car started right away. The place was really busy but they do an excellent job of getting everyone out quickly. Only waited maybe about 10 min and my car was ready to go! Price was very reasonable, staff was very organized and friendly, it was incredibly quick, and they did a great job. I have been using this shop has long as I can remember, must be a reson,always nice,fast and inexpensive is some of the reason why!

First off, with the coupon I had handy, I got my smog & certificate for $38 even ('04 civic) so that was pretty sweet. Second, I rolled up at 11:40, no appointment, and was finished before noon. Absurdly fast (admittedly there wasn't anybody else being serviced at the time, but even so, it was quick) Third, the tech who took care of my car was quite friendly & polite. Greeted with a smile, made sure I had all my paperwork in order, & was just all around pleasant. Even without the coupon the price would have been better than a number of the other shops around, so that was really just an added bonus. These guys are such jerks. DO NOT GO HERE! The coupons are a complete joke because I think they charge you whatever they want to! They charged us $65 and then failed our car AFTER saying that an exposed air filter doesn't pass. They could have looked at that FIRST. Oh and guess what? Wow - I came here after the fact to write a positive review and see a lot of hate here. My experience was very positive. I was headed to another smog place and saw a guy on the corner waving a sign. I thought I'd see if they'd match my coupon's price and save me a trip. They wouldn't because they were cheaper already. The two coupons I had were for $36 & $42. Both also required an additional $8.25 for the DMV cert. This place charged me $39.95 total. Win! They were courteous, helpful and quick. The stall I saw was clean. They transmitted the results to the DMV, I paid with a credit card and I was on my way! To sum it up: I saved money and time, paid with a credit card and they were nice about it. I have been taking my cars here for smog checks for years. They have always been quick and very reasonably priced. I even forgot my coupon one time and they still honored the coupon price. Based on my previous experiences, I referred my in-laws to get their cars checked. They were required to go to a 'Star' station and I was thrilled to see they were on that list. When I spoke to my in-laws after they had the test, The Thrill Was Gone! They were charged $120 to have their older (1990) Accord tested, and this was AFTER applying the $20 coupon from 101 Express' website. I am outraged that this company would take advantage of an elderly couple in this way. I suspect this type of practice is illegal and I will be asking a friend who works in the district attorneys office about this. I will NOT be returning here in the future! read more

Had to smog my 1998 Ford Mustang V6 for registration renewal... Called and inquire about pricing and I also asked whether or not I need to print the $20 off coupon from the website... No need to, the gentleman over the phone quoted me around $49, I can't quite recall... Made an appointment and it was a done deal... Once I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a staff... He already knew who I was but then again, I was on time and a Mustang is a very distinctive vehicle specially the color of my car... After the greetings, he already had paper work lined up for me and ready to go... Didn't need my DMV renewal notice... Paperwork took no longer than a minute, couple of questions then a signature here and there... He politely recommended waiting in the waiting room area then off he went and took my car in... The waiting area is clean... There were some magazine's to read but I didn't need them because the test took no longer than 3 to 5 minutes max... I was there for 15 minutes tops... Overall, great and fast service... The people working there do have a aggressive demeanor but not to the point of being unpolite and unprofessional... They get you in and out and they get the job done... Plus they send your test results to the DMV electronically and give you a physical copy just in case... I highly recommend this place... I was very surprised to find out my car didnt pass smog as it is a new car. The reason they told me was very odd and so I wonder how honest this Smog place is. They found my PCV cord was disconnected which is pretty odd. I could be wrong, but I think it is highly possible they disconnected this themselves so that I would have to come back for a retest. Strange mix of reviews for this place, so I will toss in my experience. Today was MLK day, needed to get the Twinmobile smogged. I figured half the world would be there, nope, it was empty. A few more people showed up after me but they were moving fast. The guy came out and greeted me before I even shut my car off. Quick, efficient, took my coupon with ease. It is $20 buck extra for trucks and SUV's, maybe I could have saved a few bucks elsewhere, maybe not, but they were fast and friendly. Most people in Sonoma County drive tiny eco-wacko cars, so you do not need to worry about the extra fee. It is printed on the invoice, so it is standard. With the coupon and cert and paid $59 and was on my way with a big fat pass. I stepped in the waiting room, my girls went potty, and we went outside to watch them work and they were done already. No worries here. Got the coupon for $39 out of the junk mailer thing that comes in the mail. Cool guys, easy going. Were friendly with my kids. Come prepared with a coupon and you are good to go. This is the second time I've felt absolutely compelled to review 101 Express Smog in Santa Rosa because of their outstanding service and value. I called today and asked if I could get an appointment and the guy said "bring it on in". So I did. When I got there, he said, "You had the appointment?" I said, "No, I just called and asked if there was space for me to get my truck smogged and you said to bring it in...". He said, "Oh, I thought... well, no biggie! Let me get your info and have you sign the tag and we'll get you going." Simple as that. (Of course there was no one waiting, but he had an appointment coming and took me anyway.) I signed in and went to the waiting room, grabbed the latest copy of The Bohemian and started reading an article about a guy who got arrested and spent the night in the padded room at Marin County Jail, and the truck went into the shop. Before I got through one full page of text, no kidding, he pulled my truck out and was walking over to get me when I met him outside, expecting bad news. "You're all good, everything passed!", he said. I couldn't believe it. He also told me I had a piece of cardboard between my cab and the bed of the truck and it was resting ON my muffler, and that I should get it out immediately. How he knew it was there is beyond me (I forgot to ask), but I'd seen him looking in the space there with a flashlight while smogging the truck. A mystery, I guess, unless I get back and ask... Whatever the case, this place has become my very favorite smog place. Nice folks working there both times, quick in and out and they took the coupon I found online, charging the standard $10 more for trucks, so I was outta there for $49.95, honestly inside of fifteen minutes! One both occasions, they were both (the one who ran the test and the one in the booth) were very friendly and helpful. They have a coupon in the Value Pack. These guys are great. I drove up and someone was there to meet me before I even got out of the car (I watched other arrivals, and they were just as attentive with everyone). I was asked if I had an appointment and said no. He (I wish I had their names) said that was OK, and started writing up a form. He saw my coupon before I presented it and asked if I wanted to use it. I was directed to the nicely-appointed waiting area and told that it shouldn't be very long. [There also was a taco truck there for the lunch hour!] A couple people came in with appointments, so they were served before me (I could see everything going on from the waiting area). Still, I was out of there in about half an hour. The guys are young, the place is clean and tidy, and there's a lot of business going through there. (There's also a really nice dog named "Ranger.") None of the guys here are bright and bubbly, but they all acted professional and were respectful of their customers. Since the waiting area offered a great vantage point, I watched four or five other transactions, and they all seemed equal to mine. I've never had a fail, but one of the negative reviewers does make a point about re-testing for free. I've noticed a lot of smog check businesses offer this. Maybe this is the reason for the bargain-level cost. However, I was impressed with how well I was treated and how others were well-treated, too. And you can't beat the price--mine was just under $40 (even with the coupon, there are still fees to send the certificate to DMV, etc.--even if you don't know this, and you should, it's in the fine print.)
