So how does a place go from 1 star to 5? 1. Customer service 2. Acceptance of feedback 3. Excellent food 4. Wide variety of drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic! So let me explain! My last review was honest but a 1star- now they could have ignored it, denied it or even got rude about it- after all others have (see aspen house) But no, they reached out and asked to open up dialogue- they asked what could be done and they APOLOGIZED- ownership and accountability! The communication was on point and the definitely made good on everything! So we set out to give it another go- and seriously- I may have a new place to hang out! As a non drinker your average joint has water juice or soda- not here The selection of non alcoholic beers and the DELICIOUS MOCKTAILS!!!! A place that doesn't get upset when you order a fancy non alcoholic drink- and you get the feel of being a part of it all not just sippin a soda! Loooved ! Personally hooked on the sweet n tangy- (Sweet & Tangy DHOS Orange, lemon & lime juice, simple, & raspberry puree ) ---delicious! My partner tried a couple non alcoholic beers he didn't even know existed- excellent variety to make everyone feel a part of the crowd!! And if you love a good drink?? They only carry high end liquor and make their drinks definitely top notch! The kind of place that values quality!!! While keeping the prices competitive and honest! Now the food- BRIE- ohhhh the Brie dishes!!! Not many places create food art- creative delicious classic combos with a unique twist! Absolutely the place to check out and try a new dish! Unique items that I'm dying to go back for!!! One definitely to try-- "Apple Brie Grilled Cheese Apple chutney with caramelized onions, granny smith apple slices, brie & cheddar cheese, melted between parmesan crusted 3 Hearts Bread" yummmmmmm The best part though- the people- friendly outgoing crew that you can tell genuinely care about each other and also care about making sure that the people stopping by have a wonderful experience!!! If you're in the area or live near there- check them out- definitely the kinda place to stop in on the regular and make it a thing!!!! Can be smidge hard to find due to construction that should end soon but worth the hunt!!! A total Gem!! Good quality food, excellent service, and a 10/10 place to stop in! Visited this place recently on a sunny evening. There were a few table out front for dining, but we chose to sit inside because the seating area was shadowed with no sun and a construction site next door. Inside there are several tables and bar seating. The AC was on blast We were instantly greeted and sat. Our waitress was very sweet and helped with suggestions on cocktails. They have a good cocktail menu of fancy craft drinks. Prices are $14 each. We opted for a Bourbon Sweet Tea and the lavender drink. We enjoyed both. Food menu is rather small. We opted to share an appetizer of Dirty Martini Dip, which was tasty. We saw a waitress walk out with a Salmon Salad that looked delicious. We would possibly return in the future. read more

A dive bar of dive bars! A local treasure and such a fun place to go! The staff is incredible- they are fun, hospitable, kind, and a great group of people. It's what you want to have from a place like this. If you're not a people-person, then don't go. The food is better than it should be! The sliders are unique and you can mix and match types. The Apple Brie grilled cheese is my absolute favorite sandwich on the West Cost! It's perfect! The craft cocktails are mixed with expertise and flair! Don't like the drink menu... if they aren't busy they'll cater to your request and make you something off menu. The service is just the best. It's very small inside, but cozy. I've been looking forward to coming to 1022 South J for a while now. I had shown up a few times when they were renovating and closed temporarily. I forgot about it until my girlfriend and I stumbled upon it accidentally. It was a spontaneous weekday date night, and luckily for us, it wasn't very busy when we walked in. The aesthetic was cozy and clean. We were seated promptly. I would recommend possibly making reservations if they allow it; it's not the biggest space, and you definitely want to try this place out, especially if you enjoy handcrafted cocktails. The bartender was polite, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell he stood proudly behind the menu of drinks and food. I make it a habit of trying every Old Fashioned I come across, and my beautiful girlfriend had an amazing pomegranate margarita. Both drinks were excellent. We were just lightly snacking, but the tater tots almost stole the show. The dipping sauces were incredible. The service honestly took the cake, as the bartender specially crafted an "espresso" martini for me. We're coming back next time with an appetite! read more

Woo hoo- 1022 sj is back & they kept the things going that made them great. Was excited to come back in since this place reopened. Really good food, good cocktails, and a cool environment with no TVs plastered throughout the bar. Ridiculously good brunch food- had the fried chicken special with biscuits & gravy, it was literally enough food for two meals. (Also- the tent cities that used to be close to the building are all gone, it's all newly construction now, so I didn't feel concerned parking there) read more

What a cute little hole in the wall! This place doesn't have a huge menu, but what it has all looks amazing! I had a - I want to say Olive martini dip? Which was delicious! And my husband had the eggs Benedict which he loved! The cocktails are real originals which also did not disappoint. we were served by one of the women who own the place and she is a gem. Highly recommend this place! We will definitely go back when the sun is out to enjoy our food and cocktails on their patio. Oh, and they also have a mocktail selection! read more

I can't believe this spot isn't packed every night. Everything here is fantastic! First off, the atmosphere is great. Very comfortable, no loud music, well laid out seating, it's all very tasteful and inviting. Secondly, the service is excellent. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They are always willing to offer up excellent suggestions and always have a smile. Finally, the food. Holy ****. To start, they have really great cocktails. All the ones that I have tried have been top tier. But my god. The food is AMAZING. I could eat here every day. The fried chicken is some of the best I've ever had. And the collard greens are BY FAR the best I've ever had. So much depth of flavor, they really are incredible. You can tell that there is a lot of passion that goes into the menu here and I have yet to have anything that was any less than fantastic. I can not speak highly enough about how good the food is here. I've been there twice, so far, and both times exceeded my expectations in every way, the Abiance is so smoothing that if you were stressed it will be gone, the Service is first hand care. The staff is caring and attentive to provide an excellent experience, and last but, not least, the Food. Both times, the food was prepared by the Chefs and Staff to burst with a taste from Heaven! What a fantastic spot in the Hilltop neighborhood! 1022 S J never fails to deliver superb drinks and stellar vibes. My first experience here, I brought my coworkers for a Friday outing and the lead bartender was simply fantastic - hilarious, attentive, led each of us to a cocktail we individually raved about as being the best. The second time I brought some family who equally loved the mid-day dine of salads, jalapeño cornbread, and tots (with three dipping sauces)! Both owners were in which I think is SO lovely to see in a small, locally owned business - a team who really cares about their craft and their community.
