I live in Ballwin and knew there was an issue of a gas smell in my car. There are dozens of auto repair businesses near me and several provided me the details which involved three separate repairs totaling $950-$1,100. That just didn't seem right to me. Of course, they won't let you see what the issues are in their garage citing insurance restraints. So, St. Louis Hills Auto was recommended to me by a friend. I took it to them, told them what seemed to be wrong and asked for a bid for the three repairs. What came of the visit involved the need to just get ONE REPAIR, NOT THREE, as the other auto repair businesses near my home told me. They showed me everything they were looking at while the car was up in the air inside their garage. I could see with my own eyes there were no leaks or repairs needed in the power steering or air conditioning hoses. They told me how I would know if there were leaks, where to look, what it would involve if repairs were needed some time down the line, etc. While I was there, a customer came by just to say hello to Tom and Kathy. They did not have any repairs to be done, just wanted to stop in and say hello. The repair I needed involved a fuel regulator system replaced, fully loaded at $225, $40 less than the lowest bid provided by the one auto repair near my home. The repair would take about 2 hours. That next week, I brought my car in to have the repair performed. The repair took just an hour, half the time they thought it would take. Also, the parts company which brought the part to them delivered a more expensive part than what was needed and needed to bring the lesser expensive one. The savings was $15. Tom did not to have to tell me this nor did he have to tell me the price would be less, but he did. I appreciate honesty. While there waiting for the repair, another couple waiting for their car to be serviced told me they live in Sullilvan, MO, some 63 miles away. They drive in because of the relationship they have formed with Tom and Kathy over time. That trust factor and peace of mind means so much and you find it with Tom and Kathy, the owners of St. Louis Hills Auto. And because of this experience, instead of driving one mile to have any service performed moving forward, I will drive 18 miles and take all of my work to St. Louis Hills Auto. read more

After breaking down on I-44, I was blessed to get my car off the exit ramp by coasting to 141 and pull into the closest parking lot. AAA was contacted at 5:02 p.m., and after a total estimated time of 7 hours before I could get a tow, I decided to google what could be wrong with my car, read some instructions, did the re-set, got the car started again, and managed to drive it safely to my mechanic. Now, if you are ever experience your car suddenly not wanting to move - as if it can't get enough "umph or gas or charge " to move forward, don't automatically trust if a mechanic tells you that you need a new ETC (electronic throttle control). Before agreeing to that costly repair, have an honest mechanic (123 Auto) check to make sure it's not merely carbon build up on the throttle plate (I hear Jeeps are notorious for this issue). So yes, I have to give a shout out to 123 Auto Repair on Gravois Road, in Affton, MO. Tom and Kathy are the most reputable mechanics around, and without their honesty and integrity, I could've paid a lot of money for a repair I didn't need. They saved me a bundle of money by resolving the issue. They are smart and truly care about their customers, and will never suggest repairs unless you absolutely need the work done. I can't say enough great things about this shop!! Tom and his mechanic Nathan were fantastic. They not only explained and showed me everything that they were doing to my 2001 Impala but also informed me of what needed to be done to pass inspection and the cheapest route to go about it. Even informed me that I could buy the parts myself and bring them in so that they would only have to charge me labor. I am a single mother and know very little about cars but they still explained everything to me in terms I could understand. I will never take my vehicles anywhere else! I've always felt intimidated when going into dealerships or repair shops by myself as a young female and I've finally found a place where I feel confident they they will not over talk, over sell or intimidate me. So, I highly recommend St. Louis Hills Automotive to everyone but especially women. Moved back to St.Louis about 6 years ago after being gone for 20. Although I drive a pretty reliable truck, I also have an old classic... So I needed to find a reliable, conscientious & honest shop - preferably nearby. First on agenda was to inspect and tag my vehicles. After chatting with a few neighbors, I heard St. Louis Hills Auto's name come up (now called 123 Auto). I later tried them out when some road debris popped a hole in my radiator on the truck. The owner, Tom, personally showed me the likely cause, damage, estimate and timeline. Super nice guy, and I've since been back -with both vehicles- for all my automotive needs, whether it be service, inspections, or just random vehicle questions. He's very courteous, fair, knowledgeable, and gracious with his time. Arrived @ my 1:30 apt, AC fan belt & tensioner. 200 dollars 30 minute repair, the man said he was busy, and he wanted to know if I would let him call me later that day, & he would do it ,even if he had to do it outside, I went home , hours later , no call. I drove there, from my truck, as I'm handicapped, i pulled up to the bay door, i asked if he new about how long. He never replied , walked off to interior of shop. I sat in truck forever, nobody came out,no call, i went to eat a berger, still no call, it's getting close to 5, still no call. I call & get answering machene , closed. Wasted all day Friday waiting for a repair I could have done, elsware. For less $180 . Everytime I have went there, it took all day. He has more stalls than the kentuky derby. Now I must ? I really appreciate the work and customer service that I received at St. Louis Hills Auto. I had been taking my Lexus ES300 to another auto repair shop for years and noticed that the service took a nose dive. I went to St. Louis Auto & Truck repair and they charged me almost $300 for a repair service that I didn't come in for and still the problem that I came in for wasn't fixed! I brought my car into St. Louis Hills Auto (at their new location on Gravois) and they fixed the squeaking sound in my wheel in about an hour and only charged me $60! Mike was really cool, down to earth, showed me where the problem was and recommended options and let me choose what was right for me. I can't say enough nice things about this place, Tom or his crew. Anytime I have taken my car in I have been really happy with the outcome. I went in last night because my car was making a noise when I accelerated that was not there before I had taken it for an oil change at Valvoline (huge mistake btw, will never do that again) As it turns out they didn't even have the air filter placed correctly in the housing and they had cracked the screw casings on all sides. I have been going here since they opened and have never wanted to go anywhere else. Tom and his wife are awesome along with the rest of his staff. Tom always takes the time to explain everything and gives me options if they are available. I know very few people who are as honest and caring as Tom. Brought my transit 250 in because my brake pad wear service now light was on. Tom identified the issue immediately and had my parts ordered the next day. cane in a few days later when the parts arrived at 7:30 and he had me out the door before 11:30. I had a seat belt light come on after bought the car some years back. no one wanted to tackle in Ky where I was living. 500.00 up front to even start... I took it in to have it fixed and was pleasantly surpised that he fixed it right away I have had my car and son"s car tuned up fixed it from over heating. Very pleased with all encounters... My car engine made a lot of noise and it is very annoying to drive around. Tom had a free diagnostic, followed by an appointment to fix after he ordered the part.
