I went here to get an emissions and safety inspection for my vehicle. The staff was amazingly nice and accommodating to what I needed done. I've gone to places before that required you to pay cash for your emissions test; and I was thrilled I could pay with my card here. They quoted me in some repair work that needed to be done in the future, and I will sure bet I'll bring my car back here to get the service done. Having gone twice, I cannot say enough good things about Fairway Automotive. I'll preface I work for an auto warranty company, and first found Fairway through a website called Repair Pal. This is like an Angie's List for automotive shops. It allows you to look up most common repairs for any vehicle, and it will tell you the average cost to repair the problem. It then refers you to honest fair priced mechanics, that guarantee to be within that price range. Its clear to see why Fairway is listed on this site, as a trusted and reasonable shop. I took my car in for a couple issues last week. One was a pretty easy fix, the other not so much. Without tearing into the car more (and costing me money in labor) they unfortunately could not diagnose the larger issue Id brought it in for. I appreciate them being super upfront about this, and not even charging me for the diagnosing/troubleshooting they did as they couldn't with 100% certainty tell me the problem was X. Obviously, a lot of repair shops would just say "we need to replace this" and have you pay them money. If I ever need repair work, Fairway will be the place I go! read more

Fairway automotive is a very professional, clean and well staffed automotive service station. They offer shuttle service and I believe they know what they are doing. The negative side is cost. They appear to be staffed with qualified mechanics rather than technicians and I believe that it's important to pay people what they are worth. But it cost me $279 diagnostic fee to find out that I needed an air compressor. That was a sale price and was not going to be applied to the cost of repairs. I believe the dealer would've been half of that. The quote to replace the compressor was $1875. .My normal mechanic was busy, which I s why I gave Fairway a try, but my guy doesn't charge me for diagnostics and i ended up having him replace the compressor due to the big cost difference. He charged me $1100 for the repair. I'm glad that I got a second opinion before paying the $1875. Unfortunately, I still spent $279 for the diagnosis at Fairway . read more

Don't fall for it... first red flags were flatscreen tv's and popcorn makers in the lobby, no doubt paid for by their scams. Went in for a misfire on my '99 Lexus ES last month and was charged $500, yes $500, for a compression test (mind you, 220k mile motor- obviously will have slightly lower compression than normal). Tested for ~15 psi lower than factory recommended specs at around 160 per cylinder, which is still a healthy number for any car. They then tried to sell me an $8k engine for my $4k car. Asked for a report on other components inspected, which I never received. Which tells me they didn't even bother to check fueling, ignition, etc. Took it to my neighborhood mechanic instead who resolved my misfire with a $65 ignition coil and a $12 wire. She's driven like a dream since then. Don't bring your older cars here unless you hate having money. Note- front desk was incredibly kind and easily coordinated speedy drop off and return. The customer service here is their only saving grace. read more

I have been using Fairway for a few years now and I always feel like I am being treated fairly. The employees are very helpful and friendly.

Two other shops said I needed a catalytic converter (cat) replaced on my 2010 Versa. Cat was replaced about a year ago by former owner, my good neighbor. I wanted the experts here to figure out why it went bad so the new one would not crater, too. They said they could they had all day Thursday. Upon picking car up, they could not say, why it went bad, other than usually cheap aftermarkets last only a year, same story as other shop. Former owner of car is a nice neighbor. He said it was replaced at a shop for $1500 just before I bought the car ten mo. ago. Fairway checked temp and found it cold on the outlet, so it's clogged. Duh, we know that already. WHY? is the question I wanted answered. They said to replace it and two new O2 sensors and go from there. Cost $1,762. Improper air/fuel mixture can ruin a cat, and a 5-gas analyzer can analyze the mix. Today, I called and asked if they had one; they did not; said a dealer might. A half-smart shade tree told me about the 5-gas analyzer. When I left the car overnight on Wed. for diagnosis next day. They got to it at 1:30; that's poor scheduling. I asked in a note to additionally check if connection to starter was OK, coz 10% of the time it doesn't kick in right away. When I picked it up at closing time yesterday, they said they didn't check that. They did, however, "courtesy checked" the car and recommended other things and their cost: coolant flush (I did that last year); rear shocks leak R & R, $1,035. Valve cover gasket leak, $784; Spark plugs, $479. It was like a visit to Jiffy Lube of yesteryear! Sell! Sell! Sell! Total cost for cat + other items total $4,059. No thanks. Looked to me they were more concerned about making more money than providing service I expected. Two simple things and they did not deliver for a cost of $189. Rip-off! I'll look elsewhere for anything I ever need in the future. Years ago they were not this way. read more

If you want to find yourself buying a new car and receiving terrible customer service bring your car here! If 0 stars was possible that would be my rating. Our car was taken in for routine maintenance that was recommend by their inspection. Our car was driving perfectly fine with no issues prior to coming in for service. After the service was performed, our car dash had every possible light turn on. Now the mechanics are telling us we need new parts and have no choice but to pay to have it fixed. Their recommended fixes did NOT work and we were told we needed a specialist. Mechanics told us they could not coordinate a tow so out of our own pocket we paid for a tow to a dealership mechanic. The work that was preformed at this mechanic resulted in a $4500 worth of fixes. Management at this facility has no remorse they just want your money. They lie on behalf of their mechanics and poor inter-staff communication. We are a one car household and this left us without a car for 2+ weeks. Due to the errors at the facility we have had to purchase a new car. This facility is where cars go to die! BEWARE!!! read more

Diagnostic was fast and accurate. I had a brake vacuum pump that was put on by a street mechanic and it created an oil leak due to a seal and gasket issue. They found the problem and fixed it very very fast. When I got my truck back the leak was fixed but when I inspected it when I got home I noticed a bolt missing on my inlet exhaust tube. I wrote a "not so good" review about it due to a misunderstanding on my end. Nonetheless, the shop reached out to me the very next day after the review I left and had me bring my truck back to them to replace the bolt, and apologize(even though it wasn't there fault). Never in my life have I ever experienced customer service like that. If I could give more stars I would. Thanks again and they definitely earned a returning customer!!!!!!!! read more

Pros: the people have always been very nice, I love that you can schedule online for some people with phone anxiety, and I love that they send photos and an online summary of their checks and findings. Cons: the price gouging is my biggest con. I have been quoted several grand more than once. They have told me I need just one thing or two things and I'll be good to go for a long time... and then I happen to bring it in a few months later and suddenly they found six new issues completely unrelated to the first that need fixed immediately for $600-$4000. It's happened multiple times and in an area like Saint Louis, it's a bit icky. I like the people and even through financial trouble, the people kept me coming back. I stopped going because I couldn't afford $1000 per visit that they pushed me to pay. They quoted me several grand for a fix a bit ago, and I have a mechanic doing it for under $1000. The people are friendly, but their prices are absurd. I'll grant too, that these are knowledgeable and professional people at this location, but every transaction takes more than a day to complete and it's almost as though they do so to push the rental program they have available. Basically if they tell you the part is less than a 1/2 an hour away- anticipate figuring out your ride situation for the next day. The worst part though has got to be the price. Two all season Goodyear tires cost more than $500?? Unit price online is around $100/ tire for the exact size and and same model we needed, but somehow it cost $500. I get labor cost, I get supply chain issues, I get pricing for use of the facility- but $300 extra dollars? Again, these are good people who should be proud of their work... idk about that proud though.. read more

The price they charge for diagnostic is more than I pay at the dealership. I don't know how their service is because we chose not to get our car fixed. Based on the money that they charge just for the diagnostic fee. A new battery for a Ford escape was going to cost me $500 with the diagnostic fee. It was not coming off the cost of what they charged for labor and parts and they could not tell me if there was another problem besides the battery. read more

This place took advantage of my 22 yr old daughter. They charged her $440 for a diagnosis when the dealership yes I said dealership charges $150 and other auto shops charge $125 for this service. Then wanted to charge her $1600 to fix it and I found out it was covered under a warranty from factory from a recall which should have come up when running the Vin. Another auto shop told me to check with dealer when Fairway wanted take advantage of a young woman. They saw a young woman and exploited her innocence. This place is despicable and never offered any kind of resolution to the overcharge issue and dishonesty as a place of business. So sad that this still goes on for our women in this world. read more

I have been to Fairway Auto twice in the past couple of months and they have provided excellent service both times. I was able to call and make appts on the same day. Quick and easy drop off /pick up. They kept me informed of the progress and while they suggested additional services, they did not push them on me and explained in person what I should watch for and followed up with a printed copy. They even cleaned off the gunk from an old sticker on my windshield when they replaced the back window wiper. :) A nice little extra touch I didn't expect. I will definitely be back. read more
