This year's party of five dined on the patio. We sampled their clam chowder and onion soup ... both brought smiles and yummy noises. One party goer had the mussels and loved that hugh bowl of fresh tasting and well spiced sea food. I went full carnivore and had the steak ... pricy at $44 but perfectly cooked, tender and served with a fresh cut mound of fries. Dessert for me was the noise and it rocked. Others had cream brûlée and it too earned high marks. Why not 5 stars? There were a couple of minor service faux pas so I like to keep it real. But 4 stars are all well earned. And, I will be back at our next car club event. Recommended.

We arrived and sat outside on the terrace. The road nearby was not too loud and the terrace was great shade on a warm day. We ordered gazpacho, ratatouille, onion soup, and clams linguini. Importantly, I almost NEVER order clams at restaurants. My family and I dig and eat at least a thousand clams a year in Rhode Island and I always assume and expect that no place can prepare them as well or as freshly. When the dish arrived I saw three cherrystones on top and figured this would be a small plate for a big price. I was completely wrong. The dish was better than anything I've made or had out. Full of tender chopped clams, the flavor and sauce were superb and the bread was excellent. We finished the meal with the pastry desert (cream puff with ice cream and chocolate sauce) and a merengue floating on a vanilla sauce. Both were wonderful. The service was great- Emelina (?) was very attentive and gave us spot on advice (and some basic French lessons) with a smile. The owner, Rober, also stopped by to make sure our experience was good. I would recommend strongly to anyone in the area who appreciates fine dining without too much fuss or to anyone wondering what French food is really like.

I also ordered a jalapeño cheese scone. I was told it was locally baked and had my hopes up, but while its flavor was good it was doughy. The ambience here is nice. It's quaint and quiet. They have counter service. Service speed was good. I've attached my copy of the receipt. I felt very "nickel and dimed." I mean, $1.50 for a smear of cream cheese?? On the plus side, the espresso is great! Their bean has a tiny bit of bitterness blended with the right amount of sweetness. I'd stop by here for the coffee every time. But if I was hungry, I'd get that coffee to go and eat elsewhere. Bon appétit.

Now, if you ask for a substitute type of bread on a sandwich, they'll say no. And the attitude? This is the worst example of poor customer service ever. I didn't hear my mocha being called because it was very noisy, but I got up and picked up the wrong drink, and when I returned it (because it wasn't mine) the young lady barista said "I called out mint mocha," very snobbishly and looking like "shame on you, you drank it and now I have to throw it out." It's a very loud place and I never heard the "mint" part. Yet she looked at me like I was a pond scum, and I ruined her life because she'd have ti make another drink. I watched her remove take the drink that I had taken a sip of, and call out the proper name for that drink and then she looked at me, and made sure I saw her throw it out, while disgusted with me. No grace, no respect for the very people she's paid to serve. The most egregious of all failures is a 3" inch by 1" 3/4 Insult pumpkin cake. $6.75. No larger than a key! Nearly seven dollars for 50 cents of ingredients. Obnoxious, insulting and the last straw! Three people in line complained and two-seated also remarked how ridiculous it was! We approached each other and commiserated. They live in Millerton too. I'm done with this place. Done, done done. As a local, I'm disgusted and ticked off. And, the fact that feel they can do this without repercussions is a testament to their hubris, and the detachment they have with this community. This is not NYC. We are not just passing through. We live here. Be considerate of this. They won't get my $50 a week ever again.

BEST. CAKE. EVER. If you haven't ordered a cake from Peg, please go do so immediately. (For more on…read morethe cake you can skip down to the paragraph that starts with "There are NO WORDS...") I also had the best service. I live in San Francisco and needed to find a place to bake a birthday cake for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday party. 24 people were gathering at Interlaken Inn to celebrate. I reached out to about 3 places and Peg got back to me immediately--all via email. Through email I told her we wanted a chocolate cake with fresh fruit and whip cream in the middle. She said she needed to make two 9" rounds to feed the 24 of us. I picked up the cake on Saturday afternoon and asked for two sandwiches to go (turkey)) and they were both delicious, FYI! Saturday evening we celebrated at the Millerton Inn Restaurant. The kitchen put a candle on the cake (we had forgotten!) and after we sang Happy Birthday they cut the cakes and handed out the slices. There are NO WORDS to describe how much every single person in our group raved over this cake! It was super moist. The fresh fruit brought a lovely light acidity to the chocolate, and the whip cream was light and not too sweet. The cake wasn't too sweet either. My stepdaughter's husband actually never eats cake because he thinks it is too sweet and honestly, we couldn't stop him from seconds (and thirds) and each time he was in awe of how much he loved it! It was incredibly rewarding for me to see everyone so happy with the cake! Peg--THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You're a baking genius. I'm only sad I can't get your cakes in San Francisco. And if any of this sounds like hyperbole, I assure you it is not. If anything, I haven't done a proper job describing the love your cake engendered.
