I went to this location many years ago but having heard that the renovation recently add added the BBQ at your table, we decided to try again. Up front - 3 stars. Good, not great. We were 5 and went for a birthday. We had a reservation but they still made us wait for 15 minutes. They don't have many tables for 5. 95% of the tables are for 2 or 4. Who plans a restaurant that cannot accommodate groups of 5-8? Poor planning. Someone had to sit at the end of the table which means you're encroaching on the table next to you. Our table wasn't set up with plates, glasses, chopsticks or napkins and it took 10 minutes to flag someone down to request. They have staff members walking around, but being located in the back room means fewer people walk there. We chose the full package. You order sushi and meats through an iPad. There's a good selection of sushi and sashimi. I believe they're missing some rolls that are quite standard elsewhere but you can definitely find things. The meat selection is not great. They have beef, pork, chicken (only 2 choices and not great) and shrimp. The meat wasn't all that flavourful as it's not really marinated. Order the beef with garlic and you get a few slices of beef and they throw some garlic on top as they prepare it. If it were marinated it would taste a lot better. They're fast about being out the dishes. The tables are quite small, especially when they stick 5 people that's meant for a table for 4, so don't order too much at once or you will run out of space. They're quite slow with picking up dirty dishes and getting refills of drinks. You can try to flag them down but often they just ignore you. So, sushi was great. Bbq was poor. Service was lacking. The restaurant is spacious and decently clean; the service was decent as well; but maybe my expectation was too high, the lunch menu option seemed limited, mostly carbs or fried dishes to pick from. In terms of the foods, the calamari seemed to be re-fried? (See picture) It was darker in colour and had a slightly bitter taste. Some of the dishes tasted a bit sugary when they shouldn't be (like the hot & sour soup and stir-fried udon). We came here to try their AYCE menu. Really like how you can directly order from the IPad. They have a wide variety of selections. Their sashimis are so fresh and good portion size. Very great value, especially if you go during the lunch special. The sushi had a high ratio of rice and cheap fillers like tempura flakes much like any AYCE sushi spot, however their beef and seafood items were all wonderful and fresh. I was quite surprised that their galbi was cooked to perfection and their salmon sashimi came in nice thick slices and were very lean and tender. I would certainly come back to this place, don't sleep on their desserts. They have a SHAVED ICE MACHINE with awesome topping like lychee jelly and red bean. I liked to add their tasty icecream/desserts on top of the shaved ice to make a sort of halo-halo/bingsoo. We came here for dinner before going to a haunted walk tour of Pioneer Village on a Thursday night. The prices were actually a bit higher than the Ichiban AYCE Empress Walk for a week night. I thought that though they have some things our other fave AYCE doesn't have the food quality here isn't as good. Attached to the review are the dishes my husband & I had during our dinner. Several of the dishes were missing something. The flavours aren't balanced perfectly in the dishes we tried. For example the torched salmon was good, but missing a bit of salt. The garlic beef was good, but missing some acidity. Each dish was like this. So overall the impression of the food here is underwhelming. The service was also just okay. The waitstaff would drop the food on your table & then quickly walk away without even looking at you. At my other AYCE dining experiences other waitstaff would drop the food on your table, smile, & ask if you need anything else. It's a small thing to smile & ask a question but can really add to the dining experience. You feel like you're cared for as a customer. The decor of the restaurant is actually nice. They have some nice lighted effects on the walls. It looks clean too. The dessert table was neat & tidy. The ladies washroom was looking a little messy. I think the staff hadn't been in to clean. Someone left the water running & it was almost going to flood the sink. I turned it off. It's things like this that gave me the impression this isn't a place I'll likely visit again. On the surface it looks great but underneath you can see not everything is working well in this restaurant. With a little bit of effort they can do so much better. I hope they are able to make that step forward. The restaurant is in a good location & it looks nice. There's ample parking too. It pains me, but eight years after giving them 4/5 stars, I must downgrade my rating to 1/5 stars. Please understand that I don't do this lightly, but the quality has gone downhill for a while, and my last experience was so poor that I have no choice but to discourage people from going. Toronto has so many better options to waste time and money there. Let's get very specific. The salmon in the salmon roll was way too chunky, and the seaweed tasted old. The sashimis are cut way too thick and poorly. Seasoning is also way off. The sushi rice is bland. The beef and mushroom lacks flavor. Even basic things like the torch sushi were too oily. Clearly, they've been cutting corners for some time. I've been noticing it for a while, but last Sunday was the first time I found the food so egregious that it turned me off. And to top It off, the waiter dared to charge us for the six sushis and three tempuras we didn't finish. I understand that the policy is there to prevent people from wasting food by ordering too much, but clearly, we hadn't since the "manager", who never did show their face despite my request, charged us only $5 extra for the unfinished food. That's the best example of how this place has gone downhill. Either we over-ordered and should have been charged way more, or they are simply nickel and diming us, and I would have been glad to give my usual tip of 20%, which would have been way more than $5 as we were a party of four. But the place has lost all perspective to the point where cutting costs is costing them more. There's also an apparent problem with the staff. On that service, they were cramming nearly everyone in the same room. The rest of the restaurant was empty, and to top it off, there was a massive party in the middle of the room, which made everyone hot and highly uncomfortable. The party had a right to be loud. They were a family trying to have a good time, and we should have had the right not to be so close to that family gathering that we even caught one of the toys the baby threw in the air. Again, the rest of the restaurant was empty. The staff simply didn't want to spread, probably because they were understaffed. AYCE Sushi is a simple proposition: decent sushis and an excellent family ambiance. After serving my family dutifully for eight years and after so many fond memories, 168 Sushi Asian Buffet now fails at both and has lost our business. I hope whoever is responsible for the management changes reads this and corrects course. read more

It would be nice if certain dishes were served in slightly bigger portions but I understand that they are trying to reduce food waste. This was the first time I got a chance to come here and although it is on the high side for AYCE pricing it was very good quality. The service is alright at best. They never stop to ask how things are. You literally have to stop them as they walk by. They are pleasant enough so not the end of the world. As for the food. It was great. There was not a single item we didn't like and my daughters love sushi but are soooo picky. I like the open salad bar concept. It is handy to get up and grab wasabi or ginger. Shrimp galore in so many ways. I paid the extra for myself for the crab dinner for myself. Got 15 crab legs! They weren't monsters but they were great! I enjoyed them a lot. I hate to buck the trend with a lower rating than several of my esteemed peers, but this did disappoint. Came in for lunch after my daughter wrote a final exam on a weekday afternoon. It was an auspicious beginning as we could see that the place was full, and not all of the patrons were "tourists" i.e. there were a number of Asian diners, so I expected a higher standard than a place like Mandarin. Service was slow on the ordered items. I'm not a fan of buffet selections in a sushi place either, but at least that way we were able to get ourselves some salad and appetizer items sooner than later. The seaweed salad was standard, the won ton soup was awful, I didn't bother with anything else from the buffet till dessert time. I was excited to see a couple of Thai curry items on the menu, but that quickly changed to a big letdown when presented with the bland, gooey green, cold stuff put on the table. Next? We got a selection of sushi pieces, a few rolls, some hot cooked items. Definitely noticed that the sashimi pieces were small, and got noticeably even smaller when we ordered a second of certain items. The meat quality was not the best - stringy, fatty stuff across all the dishes containing meats. Very tasty with all the sauces etc. but obviously "cost-effective cuts". As to be expected from an AYCE so no real objections given the standard. The dessert selection was not too vast - a few small versions of cake squares, jello, ice cream. It cost us $50 for the lunch with no beverages, just (presumably tap) water. You can do better at dinner time buffets at other places with better selection and quality but hey when it's AYCE, what does one expect. (I only have it once or twice a year on account of preventing deathly food comas) I walked in and was surprised at how huge the venue was! It looks so dingy from the outside. What also pleasantly surprised me was the fact that all the tables and booths were so spaced out and the tables were HUGE, even for a table of two. (I don't need nobody witnessing me pigging out like its the last day I'll ever eat, ok) There were so many people but their organization was spectacular. They had 2-3 hostesses set up for the holiday dinner, which made retrieving people so much easier. One thing I like a lot is the fact that they don't overbook or serve tables with wishful thinking that they're going to leave before the actual people that reserved it arrive. (So common in many AYCE places). In fact, I spotted many empty tables that waited for their rightful diners as I sat down. iPad ordering is my favourite and it was flawless other than the fact that 1 or 2 dishes were missed. My favourite things of the night: - snow crab legs at the buffet table (wtf?! So awesome) - black snow roll (it's a Vietnamese style roll with fresh fatty salmon sashimi and avocado in rice paper omg); so good that it's not all carbs - fruit roll (Vietnamese style roll with banana, mango and peach in rice paper drenched in a mango sauce), it was the perfect dessert - kalbi (WHAT? It was Korean style, the same kind you get at Korean places for $19-$23 for 2 big pieces). Unlimited fatty kalbi brought out the carnivore in me. - beef tataki (although very small, the taste was distinct and delicious) - salmon sashimi (v. Fresh and soft. Pls fatten all the salmon up so I can eat them all) I don't think anything I tried was 'bad' Service was also amazing and everything came out at the speed of the flash. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the fact that it seemed like every asian in the restaurant was extremely impolite to others in the restaurant or even to the servers. There were so many of them and they were loud and inconsiderate. They weren't all related but they sure all acted the same. I was even budded by a 300lb Filipino man that was definitely older than me for ice cream on the grounds that his dad was in the line ahead of me. (That shitty excuse only works when you're under 10....)
