I got my wisdom teeth out here about 13 years ago, this week I started getting random teeth shards coming through my gums from the remnance of my wisdom teeth, ON BOTH SIDES! I have been coming here ever since they opened and love it. Today was my most recent experience, I originally had a 1:30 appointment and when I called for an earlier one, they answered right away and got me in for 11am. She also confirmed my insurance questions over the phone which was nice to know going into the appointment. I went in for a cleaning and toothache. I saw Dentist Michael Nguyen and Hygienist Julie Nguyen. Both were very kind and explained everything perfectly. Julie made sure I was comfortable the entire time and gave me some helpful tips and even found a sale on a toothbrush she recommended I use. Doctor and staff were nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. I needed some work done, root canal and extraction and had scheduled 2 separate appointments that were either canceled or pushed to another date; this is after I took time off work and showed up. I think I had 3 total visits in the span of a month. The quality of work was solid. Regrettably, the commitment and service experience was dissatisfactory, ironically they charge a cancelation fee to patients for not committing to their appointment. New development to my previous review. I received a all from Pacific Harbor Dental Group--not for the two additional invoices of $64 and $21 after I was charged and paid in full what I was quoted at the time of my visit (I mentioned them to the admin and was told they didn't know why the invoices were sent), but for some additional fees that my insurance company would not pay them because Dr. Taflik was not credentialed. They also said the quote they gave me was actually an estimate not total cost. I asked them why would my insurance pay their office for everything else (a significant amount) except for this fee inspite of the entire service performed by the same non-credentialed doctor. In sum, I received the mysterious invoices they could not justify and now they expect me to pay additional fees for so-called "non-credential" doctor. In my lifetime of doctor visits and having insurance coverage, I've never experienced this kind of billing debacle. It's a total sham. read more

Update, i've had two crowns I had put in fall out so many times already. Instead of correcting it they just glue it in, and if you don't have their insurance or any insurance they'll charge you a couple hundred dollars. Today my crown came out again for the 10th time and half of my tooth that held the crown in is now gone, and stuck to the bottom of my crown. Looks like I'll probably need a post now. Which I cannot afford. I don't know, I deeply regret ever doing dental work here due to the lack of ethics when it comes to charging me for things that should have been right the first time. I have to go to another dentist to do something about this because the trust is gone and I know this group will never own up for this. This other dentist did new X-ray and everything and said one of the crowns that Dr Nguyen put in wasn't set right and will have to break that one out and put in another. So yeah, thousands of dollars down the tube just to have to do it all over again. read more

I absolutely love this dental group! I came here a while back under my moms insurance for my wisdom teeth. They took such great care of me that it stuck with me and after having poor experiences else where I got insurance that they excepted just so I could go back! Their staff is super friendly and caring, they make sure you get exactly what you need and let you know in advance what kind of bill you're looking at. I have never had better looking teeth and my gums feel better and better the more I keep up with my care! I'm actually not afraid to go to the dentist anymore!!! read more

Went in for a cleaning they said I need a deep cleaning after insurance would come out to 980 dollars. I ask if they can do normal cleaning they refuse to do it saying they would only do deep cleaning. I left without doing the any cleaning and they charged my insurance company over 1,000 dollars for ex rays. Went to other dentist and they said I only need normal cleaning. And I got everything taken care of. Strong recommend skipping this place if you care about money. They will try to get you sign up for a credit card to pay for the service. read more

The worst experience during a deep cleaning procedure. I reported to the office manager and front office receptionist (via text while at the office because I was unable to speak) that the hygienist gave excessive amounts of anesthesia causing heart palpitations and shortness of breath and office manager Shayna, hygienist Julie Nguyen and dentist Michael Nguyen failed to acknowledge and expressed no empathy or care for my health. I have a history of heart issues which the hygenist failed to ask about. She was purposely being rough and manhandled me on the chair because she was upset that I declined her suggestion of only partial treatment and requesting that I return for another day because she had another patient waiting for her. Her attitude changed even more after I stated I would not return and that she should complete the full treatment that day. She became super hostile and began to administer excessive amounts of anesthesia to completely numb me so she could hurry up and get the job done. While on the chair, I complained of shortness of breath and heart palpitations and she ignored and continued giving more and more anesthesia, so much that I could not feel my head, throat, and facial features. After getting no attention for the shortness of breath from the dentist and his team, I decided to text my daughters to explain what was happening to me. They called my medical doctor and it was suggested I may have had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia and they suggested I go to the ER. Both daughter's arrived to my home to care for me and monitor my breathing for 2 hours. The next day, my cheek bones were sore, my right eye was hurting, and excruciating pulsations on my gums. I plan on following up this complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs and taking further action. Their philosophy: "We offer advanced dentistry in a relaxed, caring atmosphere. To treat patients like our own family." "That's why we treat you with gentle, friendly care and offer you prompt appointments that respect your time." This philosophy is far from the truth. Do not go. Went for a routine teeth cleaning, they took my X-rays and once I was seated told me I had 4 cavities that needed to be filled. After hesitating for a moment I reluctantly agreed to have them filled. $300 later I experienced some of the worst discomfort I have ever felt in my mouth. I was unable to properly chew for months. Stay away from Dr. Michael Nguyen!!! (especially if you are female). My wife had a terrible experience which resulted in a root canal that was well documented and 100% preventable. To make things worse, Dr. Nguyen was very unprofessional and belittling towards females - he did not know he was on speaker phone with my wife and I had first-hand experience. I wish there was a better way to formally submit a compliant to the "dental board" - because filing an insurance claim was the only option. The staff is phenomenal and from the office personnel all the way to dental x-ray tech who was phenomenal as well. I could not ask for a better team of professionals. All my appointments have always been kept on time, and I have been treated with the utmost respect. That is very important to me as a disabled veteran and believe me, I would not hesitate to tell you if I did not feel comfortable or if I felt something was not being dealt with appropriately. I had been coming here for over a year and didn't find anything wrong with this dentist at first. But after I went in one day for a normal filling, and was left in pain after the numbing subsided. I had to go back about five times to get this filling redone.... On my sixth attempt to get the filling fixed by the owner of the practice, I was given attitude and he seemed like my pain and discomfort was not believable. They just kept telling me everything looked fine in the X-rays and there wasn't much more for them to do. After my experience with the owner of the practice not really taking me seriously, I switched dentists. My new dentist was able to clearly see what needed to be fixed. Not to mention, two of the dentists that had previously tried fixing my filling, both were no longer with the company when I had asked for them to redo the filling. This dentist has cost me so much time and money trying to get this simple filling done and I will not be back. read more

Julie Nguyen has been my hygienist for 4 years and she is my favorite hygienist ever! She always does a great job, first of all, but second she has a great touch. I had horrible experiences at this dentist office. The receptionist is rude, the hygienist is abrasive, and overall the practice is unprofessional. The office is always running behind and I am always waiting at least 30 minutes from when my appointment was supposed to start. I even came in for one of my appointments to be told they moved my appointment time without consulting me. I had been up charged for a deep cleaning that was not medically necessary by my insurance, they have not contacted me back so I can send an insurance appeal, and they are always trying to upsell treatments. Paid $750 for a crown that popped off 3 years later. Came to get it recemented and was told nothing was wrong with the crown or my teeth. I even asked about the crack that was on the top of the crown. Then 3 months from then it popped off again and apparently when the new assistant cleaned the crown the crack turned into a hole and she seemed shocked that the previous person didn't mention this to me. When I got my two crowns for $1500 I was told that I was paying for the best material that would last the longest and when I asked for a less expensive option they said they didn't do mental crowns. Only all porcelain. Now the dentist is recommending that I should have had a metal crown because I grind which is funny because in 31 years no dentist has mentioned that I grind my teeth. He never even mentioned it when I got my crown or did all my fillings and bi annual check ins. So now they won't cover a new crown replacement and are asking me to pay for a crown that will most likely break because it's not as sturdy as the first one the promised. I only came back because they were the ones who did the crown. I've had crowns break, cavity fillings pop off days later, and even a tooth break in half after a week. This office is amazing! Just recently changed insurances, so decided to give this office ago. I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised this place is better than my last dentist office. Super easy to make an appt online & fill out all the paperwork ahead of time. Check in process was a breeze. The area is super spacious with plenty of rooms & a designated room for X-rays! It's located in a plaza so no issues finding parking. Dr. Pintor is such a sweetheart, personable & an excellent dentist! I love that she takes the time to explain things too. I've had average service here in the past but today was not great. I had Dr. Michael and he came off pretty cold, he asked if I had any concerns and I let him know my permanent retainer on the bottom seemed like it could use a little more glue/bonding. He asked who put it on and I replied that my orthodontist put it on about 15 years ago. He then basically rolled his eyes, said nothing and never acknowledged it again. But when I change to this office, Dr. Tiffany told me I have pocket of the tooth with 10mm. You know why, She put the pick tool deep until bleeding and I am very painful. I argue with her why I have teeth cleaning every 3 months will change 4mm to 10mm. She don't have an answer. All she want is to do the deep cleaning and cost my $300. If you are wanting purely cosmetic dentistry, they might be pretty good. I was looking for a long term dental health/care group, these guys are not that type of service facility. They are looking for the high profit, quick return customer. I went in for a cleaning and initial consultation. My new employers insurance was not accepted by my previous dentist. I made an appointment and went in for a cleaning and a cracked tooth. They never once offered the cleaning that was scheduled. They were only interested in the crowns that I needed. They further claimed that my insurance did not offer any coverage for crowns. Out right lie. My insurance does not offer coverage for the high cost crowns they wanted to sell me. My insurance does offer coverage for standard type crowns. The profit margin must be too low for this group because it was never offered as an option.
