This was my third visit to Hotel Carlton in the past 12 months, and what a transformation it has…read morebeen! During my first visit, renovations were just beginning. My room was old-fashioned, with dated furnishings and an unpleasant red carpet. I didn't particularly enjoy my stay, but it was the closest hotel to my event. Five months later, the renovations were in full swing. My updated room had charming wallpaper, a wonderful bed, and a new desk, but lacked seating. Construction noise throughout the day also made it difficult to relax. My most recent visit, however, was a completely different experience! The renovation appears nearly complete, and the hotel looks beautiful! The lobby is fully decorated, there's a new restaurant and bar, and upstairs, Wickerson's Garden has lovely patio furniture, making it a wonderful place to relax in the morning or late afternoon. Our room was absolutely lovely and exceptionally clean! I always check for dust when entering a hotel room, and this one passed with flying colors. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and we had some of the best sleep we've ever had in a hotel. The room also had the perfect amount of furniture, including a sofa chaise lounge, side chair, round table, and a beautiful green dresser that complemented the decor. Everything felt thoughtfully put together and inviting. My only suggestions are to add a second wastebasket near the bathroom sink, since the only one is inside the separate toilet room, and to address the squeaky pocket doors, which can be quite loud at night. What truly made this stay special was the staff. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. My cousin was undergoing chemotherapy nearby, and I requested a late checkout so my cousin could shower and rest before heading home. I was prepared to pay the fee, but the staff graciously accommodated us and waived the charge. They simply wanted to make our stay easier. That genuine kindness meant so much to us and is something I will always remember. The location is another reason I love staying at Hotel Carlton! The hotel is right in the heart of downtown Atascadero, within walking distance of restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, vintage stores, a spa, Pilates studios, and a gym. Everything is just steps away! There's even an adorable tea room called Tea Trolley around the corner. It's probably the prettiest tea house I've ever visited! Most people know Paso Robles, but Atascadero is such a hidden gem. Its downtown is becoming increasingly vibrant and charming, with wonderful little businesses and gathering places. Every time I return, I discover something new. Marriott has done an amazing job transforming this historic hotel into a beautiful Tribute Portfolio property. Having experienced it before, during, and now near the completion of its renovation, I can truly appreciate the transformation. I'm already looking forward to returning for the Christmas holidays! I've been told downtown Atascadero transforms with Christmas lights and festive decorations, and I can't wait to experience it! UPDATE: A Special Shout-Out to Skye and Cammie! I accidentally left some important documents in that pretty green dresser I admired in our room! I called the day after checkout and spoke with Cammie, who kindly alerted Housekeeping. When I called again on Sunday, Skye explained that Housekeeping hadn't seen the papers and had even checked the trash. But he didn't give up! He double- and triple-checked the room, and after I gave him a more detailed description of where I had left them, he finally found them! I'm incredibly grateful for his persistence and willingness to go the extra mile. Thank you, Skye and Cammie, for the exceptional customer service! It's the people who truly make a hotel worth returning to!

The tasting was so much more than we anticipated as they served us two complete meals and explained specific ingredients and foods that they use. The food was beyond our expectations. We decided on their chicken dish, tri tip, and lasagna. The side dishes we're green salad, green beans, and quinoa. The quality of service, food, and the recipes used were beyond any restaurant in the area. So many of our guests remarked on how much they enjoyed everything from the salad to the little cupcakes and everything in between. Their serving staff was very professional and catered to every guests special needs and requests. They made sure that all the appetizers were served well before the ceremony along with the bar being stocked and opened as guests arrived. My family and I would like to thank them for making Kelsey and Andy's wedding a very memorable experience and we would have NO hesitation to refer them to anyone for any size event or celebration. They were very informative and helpful with answering our questions and directing us where the rooms, pool, gym and restaurant are and the times they are available. It's stylish without being too casual, funky, or extravagant bougie. And the pricing is significantly less expensive than other local hotels (at least during my visit). It was super close to Highway 101. The property is under the Choice Hotels brand with 132 rooms stretching across 3 floors. They do not offer daily room cleaning, it's offered on the 3rd day. But this non daily room cleaning is the new standard for most all hotels due to the staffing shortages. However if you request a room cleaning, they will oblige. I had no complaints about the room. Luved the styling and decor. I didn't hear our neighbors, not sure if we had any or if it was that sound proof. The AC was working perfectly. Lots of charging ports. Ample lighting. Desk and side chair with the two beds. Mini fridge. TV. Safe box. Coffee maker with pods, tea bags, cups, sugar and creamer. Armoire. Dresser. Shower water temps and pressure was great. They use Pur soap brand soap, shampoo and conditioner. Pur is known as a crafted soap using minimal plant based ingredients tending to be hypoallergenic. It was a nice feel to the skin with little to no scent. Amenities: Outdoor heated swimming pool. Outdoor lawn- big enough to host events and no dogs allowed on the lawn. Fire pits in various sizes. 12 EV charging stations- free to use by hotel guests. Fitness center. State of the art meeting room/banquet room. In house restaurant and bar in the lobby which is open to the public.

All the sculptures are so unique and interesting. You could even find details of iron work in the bathroom! Very cool. The outdoor area was beautiful and it was fun to check out the big photos and play some bocce pall. The breeze and weather and ambiance were all great, it was a perfect first stop upon arrival in Paso for the weekend!

I figured we would be seated but the tasting occured standing up at the bar, which was fine. The tastings were generous, and customizable. My friend decided to do a white tasting, and I did the standard tasting. It was pretty hot, so about halfway through the tasting, we sat down at a table in the shade and walked up for the rest of our tastings but by that time, a large group had come through so the server was busier but still managed to remember where we were in the tasting. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. When we were done with our tastings, we walked around the property to look at the sculptures and the grounds. I did buy a bottle of wine and picked it up inside where they had other items for sale from local vendors, including our server who makes soap with her goat's milk.
