I'm a verifiable customer of Home Depot (HD)/1800heaters. The contract was worked through HD, but the installation was done by 1800heaters. I'm aware of quite a few negative reviews on this forum, but I just try to be honest giving my experience the way it was (I have not been paid to write this review). On the day of installation, Ruber O. and his assistant, Peter, arrived punctually. This team is very experienced and professional and courteous. After verifying the compliance to the building codes with my specific settings, they proceeded to retire the old, damaged tank and to install the new one. The installation went without any glitches. Today is the next day of installation, and I don't see any leakage and have a normal supply of hot water. Therefore, I'd characterize this transaction as quite satisfactory, which transaction should merit a 41/2-star rating. Yet, I'm only giving a 4-star because there is no provision for a 41/2 rating here. So, why 41/2 stars instead of 5 stars? Let me explain as follows. First, after the installation, there was not a brief instruction on how to operate the new tank (this new one is a different brand from my old tank). Second, the hand truck used to move the old and new tanks is not perfect for the operation, because the lower metal bar on the hand truck did some damage, albeit small, to my wooden stairs in the basement. The solution to that problem can be solved by installing bigger rubber tires on the hand truck to give more clearance to the stairs; or, they could have wrapped around the lower metal bar with cushioning materials. The second issue is obviously not the team's problem; it is the equipment given to the team by the employer for the job; therefore, it isn't the team's fault. read more

I called 1-800-Heaters on a Friday after visiting Home Depot to purchase a new water heater for my townhouse. They called me the very next day (Saturday) to have my water heater installed between 12noon and 2pm. I thought wow!, but I had an appointment so I asked to be scheduled on a later date. Rubin Ortiz arrived on the date I requested to install my new water heater and took the time to explain everything to me. He saved me time and money recommending the best options for my budget and in the end I paid about $2,000 less than what I was quoted by a competitor. So going forward, if I have any issues with my water heater, I will be requesting Rubin Ortiz at 1-800-Heaters. He's honest, dependable, efficient and a perfectionist. My new water heater looks so pretty. He did the cleanest installation. I had swept out my garage before he started the installation and it was just as clean when Rubin was done. I highly recommend Rubin Ortiz and 1-800-Heaters to anyone who needs to replace their water heater. The price was reasonable and the installation was impeccable. Remember the name, RUBIN ORTIZ & request him when you call I-800-Heaters. **UPDATE!! - This morning around 9am I received a call from Rubin because he found my magnetic key lockbox that I had placed on my water heater years ago when I first moved into my townhouse and totally forgot about it because I was never locked out of the house. Working with his colleagues, Rubin had the key lockbox delivered to my house by 10:15am. I can't sing his praises enough. He went above and beyond. That is fantastic customer service. read more

My old water heater started leaking and I called my regular plumber of the last 20 years to get a new one. He came out and told me that the positioning of the heater in a tight corner of the basement was not up to my township's current code and a new unit would have to be moved slightly which would require changes to the gas lines. He quoted me $1800 for the whole job plus $99 for the necessary permit. Problem was he couldn't do it for a week. He actually suggested I try Home Depot. I was nervous but I called. They quoted me $1035 over the phone but said they would have to advise as to any adjustments that would have to be made to do the job to code when they got here. And they could come the next day. When Isaac P. of 1800Heaters arrived (with a phone heads up to me so I didn't have to stay home all afternoon) he immediately told me the exact same thing about moving the unit that my regular plumber had told me and said that would add $400 to the job. That was still $400 less than the total my plumber quoted me. Plus $99 for the permit. He did a beautiful and very professional job. He even changed the orientation slightly to make it more accessible. It looks great and is functioning great. I can't speak to the warranty of course and I don't know that it will pass inspection when the township comes out to check, but I have no reason to think it won't. Highly satisfied. read more

I want to personally thank 1-800-Heaters for their fast and efficient service. It started with Angel, who responded to my request for a new hot water tank to be installed. He walked me through my pricing options and when we became disconnected on my end, he promptly called me back. Angel found a make and model that would be effective for my home and became a better choice than my existing model. Angel was very knowledgeable and thorough in his approach. As promised by the company, I received a telephone call that the plumber was on his way. Taka, who arrived walked me through what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He answered every one of my questions and showed a level of professionalism that it truly reflective of the company. The price that I paid was $500 dollars LESS than what quoted by another company that I worked with before and the work was done beyond my expectations. When it was finished, Taka walked me through what was done, introduced me to the warranty, cleaned up after himself, and made me glad that I reached out this morning. Imagine going the weekend without a hot shower or a warm bath? It is a Friday in the middle of a pandemic. You would have known he was there, which I also liked. I just wanted to take the time and acknowledge the exception service I received from 1800 Heaters. The technicians arrived within the given range and were extremely efficient in their process. While mentioning the service I would be remiss if I didn't take the time to acknowledge my technicians. Darius and his assistant technician Roger were extremely thorough with their work and explained all of the intricacies regarding my water heater installation, permit process and even some tips and tricks moving forward. They both carried themselves with excellent demeanor and even brought levity to keep the situation light. As we all know repairs can weigh on you because its one of those necessary issues. That being said the manner in which they carried themselves is the way all technicians should and I feel that based on the service provided it was definitely a value add for me and my family. If anyone is using 1800 Heaters in the Edison area, ask for Darius and Roger, trust me you will be happy you did. We discover our water heater was leaking Easter weekend. PSE&G came out on Easter Sunday & said that it needed to be replaced but no one would be able to do it until Monday. However when we tried to reach someone on Monday they were still unavailable so we went to Home Depot. They said that they would have one of their contractors contact us that day. We just made it the door and 1800 HEATERS called us, got the needed information and arranged to have an installer there between 10am-12 noon. At 10:30am Rubin Ortiz was in our driveway, with the water heater and everything else needed for installation. After checking the area he realized the one we had purchased was too tall. Since he had run into this problem previously in older homes, he had come prepared with not only the heater we ordered but also a compatible heater (same brand & quality) that was slightly shorter but wider that fit perfectly. Rubin did great job installing. Rubin was efficient, neat and professional. He was also very informative, explaining many of the features of our new gas water heater & some tips on maintaining it. I got off to a less that ideal start with the Company's automated phone system and customer service call agents not returning my call, but it was worth persevering as it was an absolute pleasure having Rubin Ortiz from 1-800 Heaters (Home Depot preferred vendor)install my new hot water heater. I live in an old historic farmhouse that has a narrow, cramped basement that is less than ideal to work in, and Rubin is a tall guy - he made the very best out of a tight spot, educated me about my unit, bringing certain fittings up to code,demonstrating that all fittings were properly welded, sweated and polished and that nothing was leaking gas. His sense of humor, positive attitude and pride in workmanship is very much appreciated! I am so pleased that I chose to have Home Depot's preferred vendor services do the work for me. You are fortunate to have a friendly, knowledgeable, diligent serviceman representing your organization. He did an impeccable job and was a pleasure to have in my home and to work with! I rarely feel compelled to write a review, but Bevon did an outstanding job and saved me close to $700. My old water heater had died and I marched in to my local HomeDepot to order a new one and have it installed. I picked out the replacement and the installation was scheduled for the next day. Bevon came in (on time) and immediately checked out the old unit. To my complete surprise, it was still under an active manufacturer's warranty. He replaced it with the model that I had selected and I only had to pay for the labor. He is obviously a perfectionist, and it shows in his work. He left the utility closet cleaner than he found it. Kudos to Bevon and 1800Heaters. I was more than willing to pay for the new unit and had no idea the old water heater could still be under warranty. I applaud their honesty and couldn't be happier. The words PLUMBER and HONESTY don't typically belong in the same sentence. But, they do here. I wholeheartedly will suggest Bevon,1800heaters, HomeDepot and the Rheem brand to my friends and family. We had to replace our ancient water heater with a new one and Ruben Ortiz did a fantastic job accessing the situation and relaying to me what steps needed to be taken. He was very polite and informative about what the work would entail and also offering me other options. He was professional, methodical, and percise in his estimations and work detail. I really appreciate him coming out this way and taking the time to get the work completed. I live in an association and normally there's an issue or two but nothing that he could not handle. It all took no time at all to complete the work. I even helped him avoid liability issues by turning the main water valve off myself. I was happy to assist him during the draining water process. Overall, I would definitely recommend him to other people in the area and if an issue were to arise after all this, I would not hesitate to have him come back. I just had my water heater installed by Orlando and he did an excellent job. He was quick and neat, and even resolved a major problem that I had when I bought the wrong size heater from Home Depot. He managed to get his management to agree to exchange the one that I had bought for one that fit, so I didn't have to bring it back to the store, and even had the replacement on his truck so he didn't have to delay the job to run out and get the replacement. He was exteremely proactive in that regard (maybe this happens a lot?) and I was very grateful for that. I can't say the same for Home Depot in East Hanover. They gave me incorrect information, which caused the screw-up in the first place, telling me that I could not use a gift card to pay for the installation, and that I'd have to pay a delivery charge even if I got their people to install the unit. Both things were wrong and it caused me a lot of aggravation and some money. Thankfully, Orlando was able to make it right, and I was very grateful to him. read more

Our 12-year-old Sears water heater broke. I called Sears, who I have a maintenance contract with, and was told it would be 2 weeks before a tech could come out. I said forget about it because I have a disabled husband at home and I needed hot water. My plummer told me to call 1800 Heaters. All my stress disappeared with my initial call to this company. Khalil, the dispatcher, was so professional and kind. He gave me all the details on the purchase of a new water heater and told me that he would expedite the purchase and installation. He would also email me all the details being offered. Within 1 hour a manager called me and set up an appointment for the same day. Within a few hours, the water heater was delivered. Isaac, the plummer came two hours later and installed the heater. He also was very understanding, and professional and explained everything to me. Our installer, Matt, was wonderful. He even loved up our dog which reassured him throughout the process, which was a bit noisy a few times. Our new hot water heater is working perfectly. After reading other reviews, I looked up the code for our borough and sure enough, it matched what Matt told us exactly. He arrived on time, wore a mask the entire time and could not have been more polite or neat in his work (even offering to transport the old and new tanks through our more challenging backyard exit in order to keep our rug clean). He walked me through the functioning of our new heater and was not only clear in his instructions but also enjoyably humorous. After reading other reviews, I am truly surprised. PSE&G was super clear that the installer would be the one to give us the actual quote and even reminded me to take a photo of their coupon. Our experience was great start to finish. My water heater leaked unexpectedly yesterday. Really never a good time for that to happen. The phone rep was really thorough and the 5 minutes extra I spent with her probably saved me money later on. Anthony came to the house yesterday, he was clean and courteous. He reviewed the job and went over everything before starting and even better..... he found out my water heater still had a year left on the warranty and he literally cut the price in half for me right there in my house. He said his office would take care of all the paperwork and processing the warranty for me and I didn't have to worry about it. at the end of the day I had hot water back on in less than five hours in and the bill was less than half of the competitors. House was clean and my dogs didn't bother them. Would definitely recommend them in the future for people who are put in a bad situation like a leaking water heater. read more

I spoke with Rebecca on February 15th and she was awesome as she gave me several hot water heaters to choose from and gave me all of the different prices, installed, as well as costs for my townships permits. She was very thorough and the experience was pleasant as compared to some of the other companies I called. Very pleasant personality and easy to deal with. One day later Tariq and Kyle came to install the unit and explained all of the options for new valves etc. and the installation took only 1.5 hours and was done very professionally. They also removed and hauled away the old unit and cleaned up before they left. Within 24 hours the deal was sealed and the unit installed and I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend 1800heaters and Lowes and when the time comes they will be my first call to replace my heater and A/C units. read more

I purchased my electric water heater from the Home Depot but I was concerned that they'd send over some ham handed plumber that couldn't solder a decent pipe joint. Home Depot doesn't actually do the installation but they use sub-contractors to install the water heaters. They sent over a plumber from 1800heaters which is located in Edison, NJ and I was worried he'd screw something up as he was a young man in his early 30's. This guy did a terrific job and didn't leave a speck of dirt when he was done. I forgot his name but he was an Army Vet and was truly concerned about doing a good job and he did. In fact he was a better plumber than men twice his age with perhaps more experience but he had the desire to get it right. Every plumber should be as good as this man. I'd use him again in a second. I wasn't in search of replacing my hot water heater in fact I had PSEG out to give me an estimate for a boiler replacement and the tech discovered that my hot water heater was leaking. When it rains, it pours. 1-800-Heaters is the plumbing company that PSEG uses to install their hot water heaters. All in one day, leak discovered, estimate given, hot water heater was replaced. Ruben Ortiz of 1-800-Heaters effortlessly removed my old HW heater and efficiently replaced my upgraded 50 gallon HW heater. He took care to increase my vent flue from the existing 3 in. to the code required 4 in. He was very knowledgeable and patient in explaining the entire process to me. I couldn't be happier with my install, after 4 days without hot water trying to find an honest plumber and the best estimate it was a failure until i contacted PSE&G which they contract 1800 heaters to install the water heater. The gentlemen's name is Nelson, he is such a sweet guy, came in and told me everything that needed to be done nothing compared to what the other plumbers told me, he put my water heater up to code and fixed my messy pipes, a bit expensive but i promise you that it was totally worth it. He left the area cleaner than i had it before and even gave me a water shut off for free, which is great because mine was leaking. Really happy with my install so if you ever get this company ask for Nelson he is great. read more

In a recent home inspection, the water heater failed and needed to be replaced prior to closing. The sellers (now located out of state) arranged to have the water heater replaced through PSE&G. 1-800-HEATERS is contracted to replace the water heaters for PSE&G, Home Depot & Lowes. Ruben Ortiz came at the end of his day 5:00 PM yet was a true professional, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and explained everything needed in order to bring everything to code and pass the township inspection. While the job was completed quickly within 1.5 hours, he did not rush through the job.
