So walking around and had a few pints by the time we got to the 5th floor needed some food. So this place looked interesting, we got the tower and a couple more of pints. I split the G again, getting good at that. The manager actually cleared off a table on the higher level so we had a better view. We decided to visit the Guinness Storehouse but we're 100% expecting a tourist trap so we skipped the tour and elected for a restaurant reservation instead. Having the reservation gave us the opportunity to explore the storehouse, which had numerous bars, a large shop and a really nice display of how Guinness is made. Back to the food. This is really pub-style Food, which is what you expect. My husband got a Guinness, of course, and I ordered a Jameson and ginger ale. I'm not much on whiskey and had never heard of J&G but it seems to be popular. It was really good! For appetizers we ordered oysters and wings. Both were good but the wings were a little too sweet for me. We also had a large seagull join us for our entire meal. He sat on the ledge. It was like having paparazzi! The restaurant is airy with beautiful brick walls & exposed ceiling. From our window seat, we had a fanatic view of Dublin -- & the best part of the afternoon -- a visit from a very cute, very hungry visitor perched on the ledge (see pic.) But, we cannot subsist on incredible experiences & views alone; the food offerings, unfortunately, were middling. Smashed potatoes (€6) weren't as crisp as I was hoping for & were too oily for my liking. Tomato & mozzarella salad (€11.50) was put together about as well as I could've made at home. I didn't try my bf's order of crab with toast (€13.50), prawn flatbread (€18.50), or small order of bbq chicken wings (€10.50) as I didn't get the notion that any dish was worth a taste. We ate here as a package deal from our bus tour. We only had a selection of a beef or chicken dish, and limited sides. These were served buffet style, and not refilled once empty. Same with the desserts. I missed out, as they only had overcooked chicken and custard left over by the time I was able to get to the serving line. For sure a tourist trap because even if you wanted to only dine in, you have to pay the entry fee. If I remember correctly it's around 35 euros per person. Half a dozen of oysters were roughly 20 euros. For the hefty price, I did not like how small they were or how they weren't thoroughly clean, but they did taste like the sea so I give props for the flavor. Also, not the biggest fan of the sauce that was paired. The burger was pretty solid but lacked some sort of sauce to give it a juicy taste. Wings were mid but the fries were pretty good. Guinness beer was 10/10. Our waitress went on break towards the beginning of our meal and never said anything or had another worker replace her. I'm all for giving employees a break but I just wished we had someone to help us when we needed them. We had to ask some random waitress (after a long wait) to get us our check, some water, and a to go box. The ambiance gives it the extra stars. We were able to sit right by the window so we got a view of Dublin and made friends with the local birds!! Overall pretty cool spot to experience once but wouldn't come back. read more

We were doing the Guinness Academy tour, after 4 pints of beer, we thought we need some food and luckily 1837 Bar & Brasserie is right in the building on the 5th floor. We ordered Soup of the day , was tomato basil soup. I really hadn't planned on us having lunch inside the Guinness Storehouse. But, given our day started off much later than I had planned, I had to flex. And, given that we had just over an hour to find sustenance, we made the climb to the 5th floor to see what our dining options were. We chose 1837 because it offered table service. The menu seemed decent on first glance (I honestly didn't put too much effort into reading it before getting to our table), and they had the magical stout on tap. I was hopeful that they'd have other yummy beer concoctions on tap, as well, but ended up with a Guinness. Our table was close to a window, but not next to it. I mention that because I wanted to play tourist and stare out the windows, but with other couples occupying the space in front of said windows, I had to be careful. I didn't want them to think I was staring at them or invading their privacy in any way. The views were still nice, but I'm sure the couples seated right next to the windows had a much better view than we did. Our waitress was nice enough and took the time to answer all of our questions (mostly about the beers on tap, and to sympathize with me when I found they no longer serve Kilkenny.) My husband and I shared a small order of the Sticky Guinness Chicken Wings; I ordered the Twice-Cooked Crispy Pork Belly and he ordered the Herb-Crusted Fillet of Cod. I'm fairly certain they gave us a large order of the wings, which I'm eternally grateful for. They were perfectly sticky and sweet, without being too obnoxiously sweet. I couldn't taste the Guinness, but the other flavors blended into the sauce really popped. I don't think it needed the cream sauce that came with it, either. I did enjoy the wings much more than the pork belly, to be honest. While it was a large portion (served on a bed of greens [which is what won me over!], and with potatoes and a couple of sauces), it was way too fatty and soft to be "crispy". I ended up eating the greens (which I think was some sort of cabbage) and most of the potatoes, leaving a majority of the pork on the plate. It just wasn't palatable. My husband, on the other hand, fell in love with his cod dish. The fish was served on top of a small pile of vegetables, and he said that it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. I may have been a bit jealous. It's a good place to sit back and relax for a bit if you've got some time to kill between tours or before leaving the Storehouse. I would have never thought we would get the meal we did at the Guinness Storehouse. First off the tour was fantastic. Great self-guided tour through the brewing process. After learning and practicing how to pour the perfect pint we worked ourselves to the 5th floor and found the restaurant. I had the Cod, which came with mushrooms and leeks. The flavor we fantastic. The fish wash lightly breaded and herbed. My wife got the Guinness Burger which had great flavor. She potted to add the cheese and bacon which was a great move. My DIL got the Pork Belly which was the size of a fillet. The Pork was cooked perfect and the sauce was great. My son got the Beef and Guinness Stew which had great chunks of beef and vegetables in the generous portion they brought him. We finished, a bit by accident, with some Oysters. I greatly enjoyed my meal here. I thought it would be overpriced and not so good, given that it is in the Guinness Storehouse. It is a bit pricey, but the food and service were great. I was starving during my Guinness explorations, and 1837 was the perfect place for a bit of respite. It's open with lots of natural light, and I was able to grab a window seat and look out over Dublin. I ordered a lighter Guinness (forget which one--maybe the Blonde), oysters, brown bread, and Irish stew. The beer was great. The oysters were excellent. Very fresh, with minimal brine. Different than what I'm used to, but I loved them. I did not like the brown bread. It was a bit dense for me, but the Irish butter was creamy. The stew was perfect. It was huge, and I was not expecting that. There was plenty of meat and vegetables and it was super flavorful. Omg so bad. We had an early reservation because of timing after our tour. The place only had a few tables occupied and they placed us in the back of the room. Most of the seats with views were empty so we asked to move, which we did. Got the Guinness beef stew thinking it might be a specialty, tasted like it was from a school cafeteria. I asked our waiter about the windmill visible from our seats. He answered "I've never noticed it," shrugged and left. The window was partly open and a seagull came by and stared us down. There is a new view of the city from inside the restaurant. Luckily, they allow you bring your pint in from the tour (if for some reason you haven't already finished it while walking upstairs). Naturally, I had to get oysters, since there were old school ads everywhere, and I chose to get a Guinness burger. While it sounded weird at first, the oysters and Guinness did pair well together. Naturally, the Draught Guinness paired well with the Guinness burger. You could subtly taste Guinness in the burger patty, as well as in the sauce (chutney) that was in the burger. It came as a surprise (a pleasant one) when the burger came and it was a double patty, since it did not state as such in the menu. The restaurant is on the 5th floor of the Guinness storehouse. I would recommend that if you plan on going on the tour of the distillery to definitely stop by this restaurant afterwards. You have to purchase a ticket to be able to go to the restaurant otherwise. Two of the items that made me contemplate purchasing the tickets just so I can go back to the restaurant are the oysters and the beef stew. The oysters were very fresh and flavorful. The beef stew was very good and hearty. Went perfectly with a Guinness. The reason why this did not get a 5 is because the wings we ordered never came out. It actually worked out well since we were full. The Moroccan chicken was ok. There was just a large blob of hummus on it so it wasn't spread evenly. The ice cream bar did not actually have any ice cream. It was chocolate fudge and cake. The cake was dry and the fudge was very tart with the mint sauce. But the view from the window was wonderful. Well, went on the tour and had sampled plenty of Guinness. I was in need of something to eat. I almost walked past this place as I am leery of these places within a tourist locale. I generally avoid those gift shop restaurants; however, it drew me in even though I did not check Yelp. I ordered the Guinness Irish stew. It was fantastic and wanted more of it. It had great balance of flavor and ingredients. I also went with the Guinness brownie sundae for dessert. The dessert comes with chocolate sauce (on the side) and it needed it. The Guinness ice cream is bitter - no surprise - and this sauce adds a needed touch. I let the ice cream melt a bit so that it would soak into the brownie. It was a good dessert, but I will not miss it. The Irish stew was awesome and I will miss it. The service was very nice and attentive. I felt welcomed and truly cared for while enjoying lunch. The one critique is that the hostess came off a bit bothered and she tried to place me at a table immediately by the entrance. I was confused by this as the place was rather empty. Ten minutes later the restaurant was filling in and people were in-line outside. I got there just in time and based upon my experience here; I could see why it is a popular stop. I immediately asked for another table and she graciously accommodated me. Funny thing is that this new table ended up being rather wobbly. Oh well. I recommend stopping in and having a bite. There are a couple of restaurants to choose from so you don't have to go anywhere after all the touring and tasting, and with the amount of people going through Guinness Storehouse you'd expect long lines for the restaurants but surprisingly when we came to 1837 Bar & Brasserie they said 5 to 10 minutes for seating (we were a party of 3). Well less then 5 minutes we were seated and were being waited on. So many items to choose from but all 3 of us ordered the Guinness Irish Stew, and then a side order of scotch egg. I was truly amazed at how fast the food came out and it was nice and hot and ready to eat! Our meal was served with brown bread which was tasty as well. The beef in the stew was very tender and flavorful, the stew itself was delicious and you could taste the Guinness in it, and the mash potatoes on top along was just the right touch! The service was excellent, the food was awesome! I definitely was a happy camper! The server was friendly and attentive and recommended I try the Beef and Guinness Stew (16€) which was their specialty. It was delicious and hearty with LOTS of pieces of tender beef. I don't know if the Guinness actually made a difference but the stew was extremely flavourful and tasted extra beefy. The mashed potatoes on top made stew more creamy and slightly buttery and the vegetables added some fresh flavours to the dish. The oysters were delicious, extremely fresh and briny which pairs well with Guinness. It was meant to be! We also had the wings which were tasty, well sauced and had nice curry kick.
