A great little privately owned local place to eat in Poquoson. Cute local decoration theme. Friendly helpful staff staff and a locally flavored menu. We found the place based on highly rated Yelp reviews and ended up visiting twice. Once during the week by ourselves and then with a large family group for Sunday Brunch. Even though a smaller place, our larger group was handled with aplomb. Shrimps and Grits are excellent. The 185 Plate is a tasty breakfast dish. Try the beignets. Check out the Secret Menu. Stop by, you won't be disappointed.
What a excellent find!!! A truly hidden gem! The service was absolutely phenomenal, Zoe went above and beyond to explain everything and make us feel at home. The food was really good and the coffee top tier piping hot. Piping hot. The ambiance was so inviting with a warm welcoming feel. We had a small wait but they allowed us to take a couple of coffees out front and bask in a great country feel setting. Thank you again Zoe for the excellent 1st time experience. Eat Local!!!
The 185 plate with French toast was definitely the best thing we ordered. We also loved the sweet potato fries and the blackberry chipotle sauce. The smoked brisket burrito, on the other hand, was too heavy and pretty average in flavor -- not something we'd order again. Portions were good, and everything came out well presented too. 185 has a cute, cozy vibe, but it does get busy, so be prepared for a wait. Monthly specials are available.
My very good friend recommended this place for brunch and I'm so happy we did. We got in around noon which was perfect because it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away and our waitress Jess came over to take our drink order. There was another waitress came over and asked if we wanted to buy a cookie she had made. It was chocolate chip coconut and smelled amazing. My friend bought one and was pleased that it was still warm from the oven. Then Jess came back to take our orders. I ordered the blackened shrimp salad, my friend had a breakfast bowl and my godkids split another breakfast meal. The chef was so amazing, they even put the kids' breakfast on 2 separate plates and it was alot of food! The place is cozy and small however they do have big tables to accommodate about 8 and they even have a patio. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items
We seen the reviews on Yelp and was on our way to Suffolk from Williamsburg. The small size surprised me, the mismatched tables and chairs had a vibe of its own and made it a kind of homey invite. Only 1 table was empty and we were seated quickly. It was clearly a local favourite and there was quickly a lineup with people willing and expecting to wait. The service was quick and friendly. The food was good home cooked meals and came out quickly. I had brisket scramble and it was delicious. It needed the sweet compote to balance the richness. My wife had the biscuits with gravy and eggs were good. There was lots of sausage in the country gravy. The cheese grits were tasty. Overall the food was very good and a solid experience. Since I live with a chef who cooks this quality of food often, I probably wouldn't drive here, however if we were in the area I'd definitely stop here and try other items as well.
My boyfriend and I went together on a Saturday morning. They were super busy so we sat at the community table so a table of 6 could sit timely. I got the honey chicken biscuit again and added an over easy egg. Again it was cooked perfectly and delicious. My boyfriend got shrimp and grits and loved the dish! It's got good flavor and the shrimp were cooked perfectly!
I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while ever since it came on the Yelp top 100 restaurants list. I even drove 3 hours to get here and try the food. It's a cute little diner style restaurant retrofitted from an old tiny house (as evidenced further by the fact that it's practically on a residential street). The decor also makes it feel like you're still just eating dinner at someone's home which is interesting. We were seated promptly and were greeted by the kindest server, who let us take our time looking over the menu and always made sure we had everything we needed. Now onto the food. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich with extra pesto. I had some of it and Let me tell you it tastes just as phenomenal as my photo looks. The bread was fresh, the chicken perfectly crispy, juicy, and tender. The marinara sauce was delicious! It seemed homemade, with real tomatoes and was perfectly tangy. There was plenty of sauce and a perfect mozzarella cheese pull. The pesto was also fresh and had a great flavor. All in all that must be one of THE BEST Chicken Parmesan sandwiches I've ever had. Especially noting that this is a brunch spot and I wouldn't expect the lunch food to be as good, but boy did they prove me wrong. It came with decently tasting waffle fries as a side. 5/5 for sure! Next we ordered the smoked brisket burrito which had the brisket, scrambled eggs, 'smash browns', and two types of cheese. There was also a blackberry chipotle sauce on the side for dipping. I thought that the breakfast burrito was decent but the meat was most definitely not what I would call a brisket... It was very dry exactly like beef jerky, and lacked much flavor. I would say that anyone who's had decent brisket knows that it's supposed to be fall off the bone tender and be swimming in flavor. For that I was sadly disappointed as that was my main meal and I'd come all the way just for that burrito. The eggs were fresh, but there was way too much cheese, and that's coming from a cheese lover who always adds extra. The blackberry chipotle jam was delicious but putting it on the burrito couldn't save it for me and just made for a weird combination. For this I would say it's a 3/5 for me. I had their smash browns as my side and ordered sour cream to put on as I always do with potatoes, but was pleasantly surprised to say they didn't need anything extra at all. The flavor was phenomenal and the smash browns fluffy and moist. I would come back again just for them alone. 5/5 for me. Best hash browns I've ever had. We ordered one final dish just to try it and that was the French toast. The bread was cooked well and had an ok taste. There was a scoop of real butter mixed with cinnamon placed on top. They seemed ok, but something about the flavor was off and we figured out it had too much salt. So much so there was no helping it by putting on the maple syrup. Someone just added too much salt to the French toast when cooking it and it ruined the whole thing. Would have been great especially with the cinnamon butter if it weren't for that extra salt. The food was pretty good and I would definitely still make the drive for the smash browns and the chicken Parmesan sandwich, however I would want to try some more items on the menu to make up for this time. For this reason I still recommend it, though I would stay away from the burrito and French toast. TLDR: Great service, mostly great dishes including the mouth watering chicken Parmesan sandwich and smash browns, but avoid the French toast and brisket burrito. I still recommend it, and will try again.

185 in Poquoson is the Real Deal -- Don't Sleep on This Place! It is always unplanned trips that allow me to explore a bit and glad I did. I was sitting in the parking lot of a large chain breakfast pulled up Yelp to see what I might be missing. Glad wasn't lazy...15 mins later I was in the parking lot for 185! If you haven't been to 185 on Little Florida Road in Poquoson, you are seriously missing out. This charming, family-owned neighborhood gem is everything a great local restaurant should be and then some. The moment I walked through the door, I felt it. You're not just a customer here; you're a guest. The welcome was immediate and genuine and set the tone for the whole experience before I even sat down. I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, and wow, it delivered. I was surprised the blackberry chipotle sauce worked BERY WELL! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Paired with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries, it was the kind of meal that sticks with you long after you leave. This isn't reheated, thrown-together food, you can taste the love and craft in every bite. It was like Woman Power this morning with all ladies from front to back. Their whole vibe was awesome from the front of the house to the back. I have to give a very special shoutout to my waitress, Tiffany... she was absolutely AWESOME. Attentive, personable, and full of good energy, she made the whole experience even better. The kind of server who makes you feel like you're dining with a friend. Looks like 185 was ranked #87 on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in 2023, and after my visit, I completely understand why. The owners obviously had a beautiful vision and it is being executed incredibly...to my benefit today! Five stars, without question. When I am back in the area....I'll be back, and I'm bringing my wife will tell everyone I know.
Quaint restaurant with creative menu. Our waitress, I believe named Tiffany was very kind, and super excited about the food she served. And it was GREAT food. My chicken biscuit was fresh with a soft sweet potato bun. My husbands pancakes were sweet and fluffy.
This place is amazing! To the food, cocktails and service everything was top notch with that quaint small town feel. It definitely helps that the locals are the most sweet and friendly people around!! I highly recommend the breakfast items & their brisket is to die for!! I'll be back!!

We decided to go out for breakfast while running errands. I've been to 185 a long time ago and I won't wait so long to go back again. We were greeted and seated quickly. The decor is Beachy and elegant. The seating is somewhat awkward but that's because it is a small place. A few tables for two would make it more intimate. The bathroom was very clean and decorated with the same theme. They had a dish with feminine products if needed. That is always a nice touch. My boyfriend said the coffee was a little weak for his liking. The mimosa was good, I had the OJ. It took a little bit for us to have our order taken but was well worth it. The food was incredible and the portions are large. I had the sausage breakfast burrito. It was nice and cheesy and the tortilla was nice and crisp. The salsa ( if you request it ) tastes very fresh. My boyfriend had the 185 plate and was very happy with it. The bacon was cooked perfectly and had a very distinct and great flavor. I'm looking forward to trying more menu items. We will go back for sure.

Oh yes! I finally got a chance to dine and try this place and I love it! This place is a bit far from Virginia Beach but it's worth a try!. My friend and I went here for my birthday brunch celebration and we love it! It so cute place but cozy. The service was pretty fast yet good! We got serve right away and our food was serve fast! I ask our server for recommendations and she recommended their brisket! So I go for their brisket omelette with a side of potato. The serving is a good size to have left over to take home and brisket is tasty and tender! We love it here! Whenever I got a chance definitely I'm coming back here! read more

When I see a place average 5 stars and most of the reviews are amazing, it makes me want to try it out, and I'm so glad we did as this place is worth the 5 star review! First off service was excellent. It's not a large place and even though they do offer outdoor seating it was still a little bit chilly for us to sit outside to eat bit we did wait outside for just about 5 minutes in the adorable patio area. It would be nice to sit outside when it gets a bit warmer. The hostess was sweet and came and got us as soon as our table was ready, and the nice sweet service continued with our server. The coffee was good, nice and strong but not too strong where it has that bitter taste, so that is always good bc I love my coffee. The food was delicious! I had the shrimp and grits and it was just as good as shrimp and grits I had in New Orleans! If I could just drink the delicious sauce I would! The hangover breakfast plate included one of the best sausage gravy over biscuits I have tried and I am picky about sausage gravy with your choice of eggs and smash browns. The only thing I would have wanted differently was I like my smash browns cooked a little longer to make them more crispy but that is just a personal preference! We got there early as this place fills up quickly. The dining room is small but the service is quick and friendly. Their home fries are a work of art, warm and loaded with flavor. Portions are huge so bring your appetite or a doggy bag. Almost every breakfast item includes eggs which can be a barrier for those who are sensitive but they are willing to make adjustments and accommodations. I had the biscuits and gravy and had two sausage Pattie's substitutes for the eggs. The gravy is a winner featuring both sausage and bacon. And the dish is topped with lots of crumbled bacon and shredded cheese. Everyone at the table was pleased. My husband and I wanted to have brunch, but I didn't want to go to our standard places. I had seen this location on FB and how it had been recognized as a top restaurant! We showed up around 830am, we're seated around 845am. It took some time for our food to arrive but worth the wait. Coffee was pretty good! I added creamer and sugar and made it just the way I liked. The buiscut was PHENOMENAL. I told my husband I could eat 30 of those things lol the bacon was crispy, and the has browns just right. Very small space, but they worked well together as a team to get people seated quickly. The other patrons were so friendly, I overheard that a table had paid for two officers meals. I love that! I was visiting Newport News and was trying to find a brunch spot for myself and my partner. I stumbled upon 185, and was shocked to find a restaurant with an average 5 star review on Yelp that was ranked #87 on Yelp's 2023 top 100 in POQUOSON of all places!! This is a teeny tiny restaurant, so get there early or expect a wait! They don't serve their fried items until 11 am- so we got there about 10:50 and waited about 20 minutes for a table. If you check in on yelp, you get a free iced coffee! The coffee was just ok, and tasted very "fake," if that makes sense. Like artificial vanilla flavoring, like the mini cups of creamer you see at old school diners. Our service was just meh, with our waitress not really checking in on us. When our food was served after waiting over 30 minutes, our waitress didn't come by until we were almost done. We had to ask someone else passing by for napkins. I had the BLT, which had what was advertised as avocado but was really guacamole. I tend to love avocado and guacamole but I really didn't love the taste of it with everything else- it tasted store bought and not homemade. There was also some fried chicken, but it wasn't plump fat pieces of chicken, but instead thin crispy bits. It was very crumbly- definitely a fork/knife situation. The biscuit was good. I got the cheese grits as a side and they were phenomenal- cheesy, creamy, and the perfect texture. I had a bite of my husband's sweet heat biscuit-wich which was absolutely excellent and really blew my meal out of the water. It was on a sweet potato biscuit, which was fun and different. Overall, I do think this is a cute spot but it was not a 5 star experience. I will definitely be returning on a less busy day, and will order something else off the menu! read more

Such a quaint restaurant in a quaint town! First time in Puquoson and am loving the vibe. And of course 185! Ambience is great like most diners where staff greet you, tell you with a smile how long of a wait, gives you a pager to beep you when seating is available. It didn't take long to get a seat, what's great is that though seating is limited, they don't squeeze you in a little corner just because you're a party of one. The decor is cute: clock, map, glass mermaid artwork - all very coastal. As people leave there's a very efficient gentleman spraying the tables clean, ready for the next customers. Tables have fresh flowers, not typical of diners, nice touch! As for the food selection, I was eyeing their popular brisket omelette and shrimp grits. I was informed during weekends their brisket comes with scramble and not omelette (bummer, why not?) but I quickly recovered from my grief when the waitress told me their shrimp and grits are delicious. Do I agree? Let's see: (right amount of) cheesy grits, good amount of andouille sausage 5 plump large and perfectly cooked shrimp bits of red bell pepper diced, corn and sprinkle of scallion! Delicious! What can top all that? When you check in, you get free iced coffee. They ran out of caramel which was my first choice but was quickly told cold cream is good - glad I went with the suggestion! Oh and when you think all of that isn't enough, I was asked if I'd like to try a bit of the brisket (since I didn't order because they didn't offer omelette with it) - the brisket was served with sweet chipotle sauce (the usual)... out of this world, off the charts, divinely delicious!!! This sauce needs to be bottled and sold everywhere! Everybody should come and dine at 185! Worth the drive...THANK YOU for the hospitality, and great service ! P.s. a funny anecdote to cap off my visit - everyone was soooo friendly, told me about their upcoming Valentine's Day multiple course dinner (check out their FB page!) - I got lost with all the warmth and subconsciously wanted more probably - that I walked out with a bag of takeout order! Food 4/5: classic American style cafe with all the fare of home cooking. It was all a little on the sweeter side with more than generous portion of butter on some of the dishes (fried chicken and biscuits, and pancake). Service 5/5: extremely friendly staff. This quaint place is so awesome! The food is delicious, and the service is great as well. When I got there, they had to make a fresh pot of coffee, which I appreciated. Some places will just give you old coffee, and the coffee was worth the wait. The mimosa was good also. So let's talk about this pancake, it was light and fluffy. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I like mine over well/fried hard. The seared salmon was scrumptious - it was cooked in white wine, butter, and topped with capers; I think I tasted some lemon too. I've only been here a few times but the food is amazing each time! You literally can't go wrong ordering anything on their menu. The service is always great as well. The people working here are some of the friendliest people I've ever met at a restaurant. The seating area is relatively small so it can get kinda packed in during the busiest times of the day but it's still comfortable. This is a place I'd gladly make the drive from Yorktown or Williamsburg to visit! read more

Came to a brunch date with my sister. The only downside I have was the tone of the hostess because she just seemed rude or overwhelmed. Otherwise everything was good as usual- I got the 185 plate and it was so filling, fresh and hot. I got the tropical mimosa and it was excellent. My sister loved her hangover plate she said she would definitely be back to have 185 again. The decor was cute, we sat in rocking chairs waiting, and they were comfy. It was an hour wait so I would say don't go on rainy days bc they will not let you sit outside even though at the time it didn't rain. It's a neighborhood favorite! When I'm visiting a different area, YELP is always my go to for finding that perfect meal. While looking for breakfast options, 185 seems to have its share of great reviews for breakfast and brunch options, and the food pictures also seemed scrumptious. This hidden gem was just that. Small, but great ambiance and good customer service. The food was as expected.. yummy! I had the 185 breakfast special with French toast, potatoes and bacon. Although I do like my bacon a little extra crispy, forgot to ask. Some of the potatoes were a little tough, but overall great taste. My husband had the same special, although he opted for the pancakes.. says they were great! So yes, we would definitely try again when in the area. read more

Pure Deliciousness! I had the sweet heat chicken biscuit, smash browns and cheesy cajun grits. Loved every bite! The menu has some of your run of the mill breakfast favorites but they also have some awesome goodies that you can only find there. I can see this definitely turning into a favorite go to. read more

The food is delicious. We went for breakfast and the creole gifts are the best. The weather was nice so we sat outside--enjoying sounds of casual conversation and water feature. When we arrived they were crowded and another couple offered to share their table with us. Friendly patrons, delicious food, and superior service in an atmosphere that was warm and welcoming! Jess was our server and she exceeded all expectations-friendly, professional, and an awesome ambassador for this hidden gem of a restaurant! This place isn't conveniently located but it's well worth the drive to Poquoson! It has become one of our favorite places to eat!! read more

The 185 is a cute little gem of a place, offering a variety of breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. The hubs and I came here for breakfast, and we ordered: +the 'S.O.S.' Country Sausage-Bacon Pepper Gravy - came with an angle biscuit; the gravy was thick and creamy, and savory with the chunks of sausage; the biscuit was more on the dense/dough-y side, which I liked; this came with a side of fries or 'smash-browns' (aka, homefries), which we opted for the latter +a Breakfast Burrito - flour tortilla filled with sausage, onions, peppers, smash-browns, and cheese, served with a side of salsa; the hubs enjoyed this healthy version of a breakfast burrito; it was seasoned well, so even hot sauce or salsa was not needed +Shrimp and Grits - Creole cheese grits topped with blackened shrimp, andouille sausage, peppers, and onions; the shrimp was absolutely delicious - perfect version of blackened shrimp; this was juicy and addicting! I wasn't really a fan of the grits, as I didn't taste much of the 'cheese' +an iced coffee - simple and strong The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the place itself is super cute and decorated very well. The restroom was very clean, and I appreciated that! I'd love to try the rest of their menu on our next visit. Definitely a nice local spot to grab breakfast or lunch. I love supporting local spots and this is a good one. They are always adding new things to their menu so always something to try. I always go to my favorite the sweet heat chicken biscuit! It is a very small restaurant so seating is limited, they do offer indoor and out but it fills up quick and stays busy. I live close by so pickup is my favorite option. They offer a variety of foods from breakfast/ brunch, to lunch sandwiches and brunch cocktails. They put a lot of love into their food so you can't make a wrong choice here! read more

Yes, but at reduced capacity. We have 7 tables ranging from 2-person to 8-person. Tables turn over in about 30-40 minutes. Parties of 5 or more are asked to call ahead and reserve a table, if available.
