This is legit authentic and delicious Indian food. It is easily the best Indian restaurant I've tried in recent years. The location and atmosphere is nothing special, but that isn't why you come here. Both times I've gone it's been busy, but we were able to get seated right away. The paneer makhani curry is delectable. It's rich, sweet, spicy, creamy, and has a great depth of flavor and spices. The shrimp biryani was the standout dish for me that I still keep thinking about. The rice was aromatic and cooked perfectly, while the shrimp was robust, bright, and very spicy. I would recommend ordering a spice level down from what you would normally get.The mini samosas were packed with flavor and I loved all onions in them. The garlic naan was also solid. I was genuinely excited to re-order from this place after a wonderful first experience with their Mughlai dishes. Unfortunately, my second order via DoorDash missed the mark in two significant ways: 1) Spice level not honored: I ordered butter chicken and Mughlai paneer and selected "mild", specifically because my 5-year-old was going to eat with me. What arrived was unbearably hot, even for an adult used to spicy Indian food. I double-checked my receipt and the mild selection was clearly there. Neither dish was edible for my child, and I could barely get through it myself. What's especially frustrating is that my first order at mild spice came out perfectly mild. Dishes like butter chicken and Mughlai korma-style preparations are traditionally on the gentler end of the heat spectrum. It would be great if the restaurant could maintain consistency in honoring spice level selections, as it makes a difference for the person eating it. 2) No rice with the main course: In every Indian restaurant I've visited globally, a main entree comes with a side of rice as standard. I didn't select "extra rice" on DoorDash assuming this was a given, and added only a garlic naan. What arrived was two entrees and a very small portion of naan (two thin slices, really enough for one person), and no rice at all. A heads-up on the menu or at checkout that rice is not included would go a long way. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously, because the food itself is very tasty! read more

On a return trip from the coast, we found this fabulous new-to-us place via Yelp. It was lucky we were out because, previously, searching from home, 185th & Indian did not show up in the results, so hooray for being out and about and discovering them! This was our first family Indian food since we moved here from the East Bay. We loved our family favorite in Livermore and had been eating there for over 25 years, so we have been circumspect about finding a new place. 185th & Indian not only filled our stomachs with delicious food but also our hearts with joy, having found what could be our new family favorite for years to come. The restaurant is inviting and cozy. We look forward to dining in next time, but we ordered to go since we had our dogs with us and they needed their dinner after a long day running at the beach. :) For our maiden order, we chose butter chicken (a family favorite), veggie samosas, mixed pakora, dal tadka (hubby's fave is dal makhani), paneer makhani, rice, and naan. The guy who took our order asked us about our spice level. We were going to go medium, but he asked when we last had Indian food, and we said about 6 months (OMG, SIX MONTHS?! Trying to go down the list of all the places near us, instead of going to our tried and true spots, and honestly nothing has disappointed so far, including this spot. We got our food to go, so can't really speak to the service or dine-in experience; but the staff were friendly over the phone and in-person so I can't imagine it would be bad. Food was amazing. As a group we had the Chicken 65 which comes as an appetizer but honestly could be an entree other than the fact it doesn't come with rice. The Garlic naan was fantastic, heavy on the herbs and garlic, which I love. The Butter chicken which was super smooth and flavorful. Same with the Tikka Massala. Both of which we ordered one of mild and one spicy, and my only note, is that I couldn't really tell the difference between the 2 levels of spiciness. I will say for a group of 3, ordering 3 curries, 1 naan, and 1 appetizer, I was a little surprised at the total, which would be my only criticism. Tried twice, won't be a third! Ordered take out both times. Ordering online will tell you rice is included on all entrees, it is wrong. $1.49/order of rice. That's fine but we ordered 3 entrees our first order and were upset when we received 0 orders of rice. During that first order, I paid, but my partner picked up the food. They literally wouldn't give her the food until I texted my partner a picture of my credit card & drivers license. 2nd order, I changed it up and got the lamb entree dish & it was like biting into a golf ball made of tendons. Impressively horrible texture. Both me and my partner ordered spicy as our preference but I put in my notes "extra spicy please". Hers was exponentially spicy and mine was not spicy at all. Their pakora is literally just onions. Outback Steakhouse could have given me a bloomin' onion better than their pakora. Naan is incredibly overpriced for being a glorified chip. The best thing to happen to this restaurant is Desi Bites in Beaverton closing. I truly wish I could give worse than a 1 star read more

Didn't love that flavor combo as it's a bit overpowering. There was also whole pieces of onion which obviously went well. One of the onion pieces were chewy (bc it was likely an outer part of the onion that shouldn't have gone in there). But the sadest part that while there was a good amount of chicken, it was unfortunately overcooked. All in all, I think the people working there are kind. We really enjoyed our Tikka masala and Veggie Samosas was even checked on to make sure the music wasnt too loud and then provided with a free Mango Lassi which was delicious! Needed a warm butter chicken on a cold winters night. This restaurant has great reviews! The atmosphere and ambiance is nothing special, and I was particularly turned off by the super strong cleaning spray used while we were eating. The service was a bit spotty, they never got us more lukewarm water. But if you can just ignore all that (and you can), then stay for the delicious food. The garlic Naan was perfectly cooked with butter and garlic, the fun appetizer of punugulu was so tasty... fried fritters with dipping sauces. One yogurt based and one more spicy. The butter chicken was spicy and amazing! Pro tip, we ordered mild and it's still spicy, so if you can't handle any heat let them know. Choose the layered Konaseema chicken biriyani dish. It was stuffed full and delicious and Nicky nicely flavored. The chai and samosa appetizer was good but the samosa was stuffed with pickled veggies that were not great. The chai was amazing! Just getting back from an amazing dinner at this joint. First, I eat a lot at Indian restaurants, and am very critical when reviewing. I also think that restaurant experiences are defined by the actual dishes along with the ambience and service. With that said, this place checks all the boxes! Service and Ambiance: I can't complain - very simple, clean, spacious, and attentive service - no loud music and no fancy decor, but we're there to eat and this place creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere to enjoy your meal. Very friendly staff and very accommodating of requests. Food: We got the Kaju Kodi and I've never had anything like it before - it's fried chicken bits, tossed in a delicious thick creamy sauce, with lots of flavor and spice and cashews - hard to stop eating. Ask for it to be mild - it's plenty of heat with all the flavor. We also got the Mysore bonda - large savory fried balls like donuts - they give you 6 of these but 1 is plenty for an appetizer. The highlight are the chutneys - great consistency and flavor to dip the bonda in! If you don't have a large group, skip this since they're best eaten hot and shared. Our main course was the vegetable curry that is their signature dish (I think it's called the deewani) - creamy coconut curry deliciousness with a lot of vegetable and paneer, that goes really well with naan. We also got the Thalaiva biryani (chicken) which was incredible. It's a layer of saucy boneless chicken under traditional biryani rice. I could tell from the flavor of the rice that their chicken dum biryani would be amazing (sadly they'd run out). They only make a small batch everyday so pre-order if you want this! Easily the best Hyderabad style biryani I've had outside India and compares to the amazing biryani at Tikkalicious in Portland. And for dessert, the double ka meetha is delectable merely in your mouth richness - terrible probably for your health but definitely not to be missed at least once - it's on the sweeter side so fair warning. If we went back we'd get the "65" chicken and a side of rice. I found the biryani to be greasy and the naan just ok and small. We have heard Beaverton has great Indian compared to Portland so I had high hopes and was surprised at the price points for a strip mall Indian spot in the suburbs. In recent years, Indian food has gone the way of Thai in that they are all consistently good and relatively the same. I find very little distinction between the offerings at different restaurants. Butter chicken is the pad Thai of Indian cuisine... offered everywhere with only the slightest of differences if any. Around that is built a number of regionally specific dishes as India has a vast wealth of regional cuisine. Most trips to a new restaurant involves Google. 185th and Indian was no different. With a focus on the Hyderabad cuisine in Southern India there were a lot of dishes and styles that we had not been exposed to before. With that we weren't certain what that would entail and even Google was only so helpful... but we are also adventurous so we set out for an adventure. Having said that... we had to get the butter chicken (for my daughter as it is her favorite dish) and of course garlic naan... it was decided these were among some of the best we've had in recent months. Looking for something truly unique we got the Punugulu...oh my... what a treat! Warm and Chewy with two different lentil (hummus like) dips! Always a fan of Biriyani... they offer a plethora of unique options. I forget the name but we went with one that was a grilled chicken option... it was so good! Each bite offered so many different spices and flavors... so much packed into every bite... easily some of the best biriyani I've ever had! Just a reminder though... I'm one of those tough guys... give me more heat kinda guys... maybe I'm getting older... maybe I'm getting softer... maybe just aware and smarter... but I've ruined many an Indian meal because it's too too hot... the mild here was spicy enough to be interesting and good and spicy enough for my wife and daughter to comment on it. It was my first time at this restaurant. The food was excellent! The Chicken Tikka Masala was perfect. It had a lot of flavor and was a perfect consistency. It wasn't runny like I've experienced at other Indian restaurants in the Portland, Oregon area. The Palak Paneer was perfect. And the naan tasted better than most. The service was okay. The only negative point here is their food is always quite spicy even tho I always request it mild. Since their food is good, I just tone down the heat with some raita. But if you're very sensitive to spicy food, be prepared. If they could learn to tone down the heat in their food it would be more enjoyable. read more

I've become a regular! I visit about once a month and have even introduced a few friends who have also enjoyed their meals. My 11-year-old daughter and I particularly love the Thalaiva Chicken Biryani - it's simply outstanding. The staff is always friendly and accommodating as we navigate the menu, and every dish we've tried has been delicious. Newly opened It's a chilled place to get some good South Indian food. Very reasonably priced for today's price. We ordered Punagulu for our starter and it was really good and two sauces were really good. For dinner we ordered a goat dumplings biryani and saag paneer with mild spices. The entrees were pretty good but the biryani had very little quantity of goat meat. Dessert items that we wanted to order (falooda and kulfi) were both unavailable....so overall I would say go try it once but it's a B+ for me and not an A. read more

I was recommended 185th & Indian by a friend and it did not disappoint. We ordered pakora, plain tandoori naan, kofta pulav, and chicken tikka masala. Food was flavorful, a good amount of spice (we ordered mild for the weak tolerances of the spouse and child). Service is also good. I recommend you try this place out. Is it good Indian? Probably...I'm not qualified to judge , but most of the patrons were Indian, so that's a good sign. Is it good food? Most definitely! read more

I heard this was one of the few good restaurants in the area, and there are some poor ones in Portland, so I drove out for lunch. I only had butter chicken curry, garlic naan and Chai with Samosa. All were quite good, as good or better than my other favorite, Swagat, so I hope to go again and try a paneer and other dishes. Still, thee were a couple things I did not like. Lukewarm water with no ice. The chai came in a paper cup for some reason. But worst, there is no lunch menu, only a dinner menu, so I had to order those three things separately, making that simple lunch about $30. By comparison, a Thali lunch at Swagat has the same, with greens, tandoori chicken a couple curries, a dessert, etc, for under $20. 185th is not a place to go eat at by yourself. So I suggest 185th, that you make a reasonable lunch set and maybe dinner set with a variety of dishes for people who go alone. There are a lot of people like that in the US these days. Clean and pleasant dining area, with excellent service. In our group we ordered Chicken Biriyani, Butter Chicken, Raita, Plain Naan and a starter, Chicken -65- which was as large as of a full meal serving. Full rich flavor, with each dish. We took a large container of food home, after feasting on our sumptuous lunch. We had at least an extra two meals to enjoy later. Will return, and try a few new dishes. read more

Did a takeout from here recently. I like that it is closer to my house and better prices compared to other Indian places we order from, so I decided to give it a try. The place was a little bright for my taste, but it was clean and spacious. There was about 10min wait beyond what they promised on the phone. Could have been a one time glitch. The food was great. My wife loved the paneer makhani and my biriyani was pretty good too especially after adding the curry from the little box. They also had double ka meetha which I haven't seen at any other place around here and always wanted to try it. I visited this place multiple times and I really love the food there. One of the really good places so far in portland for indian food. I really love their Irani chai which is very close to what we get in hyderabad. Irani chai with samosa is my go to experience here. Other than that, their chicken appetizers are really amazing.
