Walking in and you'll notice it very nicely decorated. Immediately greeted by someone and then seat you. As one would look signs and see the pictures you'll notice some oddly but perhaps culturally appropriate art with half mashed people. Interesting. Came on the weekend with my wife and her family and everything was honesty great. We got the thali platters with garlic naan and everything was so good especially the butter chicken. It's fair price and plentiful food with a lot of variety. The waiter Lefitto was able to accommodate our strange requests to have mimosas by providing mango purée and the bubbly. The experienced was mostly enhanced by Lefitto. His energy, friendliness, and genuine personality made interactions very seamless and he was very accommodating to our needs. So I want to give a solid 3.5 to this restaurant solely because of the amazing value of their lunch Thali ($15) for chicken, goat, or vegetarian. Great deal! Available even on weekends! The location is in the Orenco area with a parking lot in the back. They have a big heavy door and you can tell they put a lot of effort into the inside decor. The last time I was here was pre-COVID when they still had buffets but sadly I don't think those are coming back. We were a big group of 10 with a toddler needing a high chair. We were greeted right away and lead to the upper area that could accommodate the group. Our order was taken quickly and the food came out in a timely manner piping hot. Again I would highly recommend getting the thali lunch for its awesome value and the great variety. I tried my friend's butter chicken and it was very creamy and tender. The only gripe I had with my goat curry in my thali is there were SO MANY small bones in it! It was really hard to work past that, but also the goat curry was spicier than I expected. Stopped in for lunch today and ordered the butter chicken thali. The butter chicken was delicious and the fun thing about the thali is that you get to try a small portion of a bunch of different dishes. The two soups were both very good, the naan nice and fresh tasting, tandoori chicken was tasty though a bit dry. I didn't care for the dessert but that's probably just my taste. This place is truly a diamond in the rough. Drive too fast, and you'll pass it. It's located in a cute little house, but it packs quite a huge punch. We ordered almost every dish, but here are the basics: the Potato Pakora, Vegetable Samosa, Raita, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Makhani was sooooo good, the chana was light, and prepared to perfection. All the side dishes that came with the platters were equally satisfying. We were so pleased. Our server was very polite and quiet and was there to handle his business. We've been coming to Swagat for years and have always loved the food. The prices have gone up post- Covid but the variety in their Thali is delicious. We always get the chicken Thali with extra tandoori chicken - which used to be $1 each, but now they are $2 each piece. We really wish they would bring the buffet back! Chicken Dishes? They have the them. Vegetarian dishes - yup they have lots of choices. Parking -a bit thin here. You might get a spot but street parking is hit or miss. My favorites: Start with the free papadum and chutney. Coconut is the mildest. If you want rich creamy vegetarian comfort food I'd suggest Malai Kofta or Paneer Tikki Masala. If you want to have more of a creamy spinach base, go for the Palak Paneer. And definitely consider a masala dosa - Its the love child of a buttery potato chip and a vegetable curry. read more

The food was very good and the original server explained what everything was so that we could better understand our meal. They have a quiet setting, dim lighting, and thoughtful decorations and dish wear. There was a very weird encounter with the server at the end whom was not the one who took our order just the one who brought us water at the beginning. I've eaten the lunch buffet at the Orenco Swagat several times over the years and always left with the same impression. The atmosphere is stylish and comfortable. The service ranges from pleasant to indifferent. The food is mediocre at best. Swagat has three locations, Orenco, Beaverton and on Lovejoy street in Portland. The Orenco location is conveniently located near my workplace and that's why I continue to visit them. But there is far better Indian food all over the Portland area. The lunch buffet does not include any soft drinks or chai. It has very few vegetarian items and what is there isn't memorable. The best thing about Orenco Swagat is the nice atmosphere. But when you're hungry the atmosphere won't help you. I do not recommend visiting this place. read more

Came for their weekend lunch buffet and wasn't terribly impressed. Food was decent, especially their mushroom korma and opo squash. Tandoori chicken was comparable to other places. However, the naan needed salt and there were only a few meat options (including a chicken biryani), which didn't justify the $13.95 price tag. Service was also lackluster. There was initially no one in the front of house and we were literally looking for someone to seat us. The bus person also wasn't friendly. He topped off my brother's water glass, but missed mine (which was nearly empty). When I asked him for a refill, he just looked at me and didn't say a word as he finally filled my glass. With so many other options for Indian lunch buffets in the area, I'll look elsewhere for better experiences and value in the future. read more

Horrible pricey food served by an inattentive service! Bread rolled, fried and dipped in watery syrup was served as gulab jamun. Runny, water like gravy for shahi paneer, that there was nothing shahi about the dish. The supposed to be creamy dal makhni felt stale and flavorless. I previously visited the restaurant in Portland with not to be remembered experience. However, this one is so bad that we decided not to visit them or their sister branch again. They don't have an order to serve food on every table. Water cups, or food is placed haphazardly and the same dish would be served in different/bigger containers on the table next to you, when they claim to be in fine dinning space for Indian food. Water soaked gulab jamun or shahi paneer put questions about their food preparations. I would refrain and you should avoid them too. For better Indian flavors, visit dil se or hello India. I loved that it came with so many different sauces to try. Just SO MUCH FOOD! While the sauces and warm naan were good, I thought the rice, tandoori chicken, and chicken in the butter chicken were quite dry. Stars of the meal were definitely the vegetable fritters and the sauces. I highly recommend coming for lunch as you get so much bang for your buck. I was going to start this review by saying how good the food is at Swagat, but that was while I was eating it, now at 3 am I can't say it was as good. My husband and I have been up half the night alternating between nausea and diarrhea. We have eaten at Swagat many times and this has never happened before. My one star started out as commentary purely on the service. In my life I am not sure I have ever had worse service. It took us half an hour and two people getting up and asking for service before we even ordered. When our food did get there it was literally thrown on the table. They had Saag, Minced Lamb Curry, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Mung Beans, Naan, Raita, Eggplant Pakora, Rice Khmer, Mango fruit yogurt dessert, and much more. Flavor wise, I would have liked some of the dishes to be spicier. But, overall everything was fresh and piping hot, the way I enjoy my dishes. The desserts were nice and cold. I really enjoyed the sweet mango tasting dessert with fruits and yogurt. Atmospherically, the ambiance was authentic and lovely and whisked me away to what I would envision some parts of Indian venues to be like. The service was terrific. All of the Tandoori meats were severely overcooked and dry. Flavors are a bit bland but not off the mark. Mughals I Curry was flavorful and somewhat spicy, but the added chicken consisted of about a half of a chicken thigh shredded and not worth the money to add it. I'm looking forward to dining in someday soon... The food was DEF the best I've had in PDX area and possibly even Seattle, where I'm from. The fragrance of the rice in the biryani and the lovely freshness of the raita were superior. The onion Naan and the plain Naan were both flavorful and delightfully chewy. The palak paneer was unctuous and warmed my pea-pickin' heart. This is my new go-to for Indian food and I'm excited to try other dishes. Really overwhelmed with the quality of it. We love the lunch buffet at Swagat since you get such a good variety of items to taste and they change it up throughout the week. The food is fresh and delicious - the place is always packed during lunch time. I prefer Swagat to Chennai Masala, which also has a good lunch buffet, since the food tastes lighter and less oily. I've never dined in for dinner but I've gotten takeout a couple times. The chicken saag is in a pretty small container than I would expect for $14-15 but it comes with rice and naan, both in larger portions than the saag itself. The chicken biryani is huge and flavorful, though I've found its not always consistent in quality. Combined, it's a good meal, but I would probably be sad if I only got one or the other. Overall, Swagat is probably my favorite Indian place in the Portland metro area, but I do prefer it for lunch. read more

Which is not usual buffet menu. They offer more of South Indian style food. I am visiting them again when I crave for restaurant style Indian food and good service.
