We came to eat at 1864 on a Wednesday for lunch. The food was ok. The Poutine was good, the chicken was good and well marinated, but the Caesar salad and 1864 bowl were lacking for the price. The food took over 25 minutes to reach our table despite the restaurant not being busy. Our table asked for some items on the 1864 bowl to be put on the side, and this did not happen. We stopped here with a party of 7 after coming into town to hit the shops. We were greeted promptly and seated outdoors as requested. Our server was prompt with us and answered all of our questions. He was great. He kept all of our drinks topped off and was friendly. I ordered the Aloha burger with the side of onion rings. The burger was fresh and tasty, cooked just right. Though it says they were closed on Tuesday they were open today. Visiting the area to conduct a wedding and it looks very nice from the menu outside. Inside the ambience matches with great lighting and motif. Kudos to the bar service who were very talkative and friendly. Also, with the atmosphere the couple next to me at the bar were talkative as well and added to the experience. I got the fish tacos as my second choice since burgers were not ready at the moment and they were very open about it . Though the description says jalapeño, it is nothing towards heat. With the fries, there was a nice size to the dish. Fries were on point; very crispy and fresh. The haddock in the fish tacos was a bit fishy, but was masked once was over the entirety of the taco. First, the menu displayed on their web site was the reason we decided to to try 1864. it was a Wednesday evening. the menu was no where near what we expected. The "jumbo" crab cake was anything but. Two pancake thin cakes, certainly not "jumbo" crab. My guess, is minced crab. Very disappointing. The tandoori chicken sandwich was lacking in flavor. The best part of the sandwich was the Nan bread. The side of fries were cold. The star of the dish was two pickle chips, very good. Neither dish was finished and we left with the same comment, "one and done". We were told that the server for our section would not wait on a table that had been waiting!! Our server tried to excuse his behavior by saying he works 2 jobs and was tired. We ordered the beef tips and panini sandwich. Both were really great. Panani came with chips that were great. No need to upgrade to fries or onion rings. Started the dinner off with the seafood trifecta, the cocktail's sauce had the perfect amount of horseradish. My boyfriend's New York strip sandwich had the most amazing aïoli sauce. Fish tacos were good but not great - the tortilla seemed hard, kind of tough like they were microwaved. The fish was tasty but there was no mango jalapeño salsa on the tacos. If I could give a zero star review I would. Nothing about this place was good. Asked for a beer menu and was told they didn't have one but the table next to us got one. Waited 10 minutes for the waitress/ bartender to come to the bar and let me know what was on tap. Ordered calamari and half the dish was batter, hot peppers and mystery fish. Very greasy. I ordered the steakhouse wedge. a salad which was just a quarter of a head of lettuce with well done steak thrown on top and I asked for medium rare. The onions were supposed to be pickled red onions but they were just regular red onions. My wife ordered sunset shrimp tempura bowl which had unwashed carrots and dry shrimp. The cucumber was just cucumber skins and the whole dish was flavorless. My wife used my balsamic dressing to put flavor in the dish. Stopped in on a whim; we were startled by the good quality. We're from Los Angeles and were apprehensive about small town places. The salmon and scallops were phenomenal! What a pleasant surprise in Alex Bay. We travel there often from our home in Canada. Our lunch was excellent. Nothing exotic, Cobb Salad and their Special burger. Both were perfect. Service was attentive and timely. A much needed addition. We will return for dinner soon. read more

Sunday, Matt 21, my husband and I went to eat at 1864 Steak House in Alexandria Bay , NY. It was our first time there. We noticed it had nice outdoor seating -but when we approached a waiter , he told us the procedure was to walk up 6-7 stairs and enter the restaurant and then talk to the hostess before we could go back down the stairs, to be seated outside. Being in our mid 70's, we did not want to walk back down to get a table at that point, so we said we would eat inside. (What an awful system fo seating customers for outside dining). The interior decor was lovely, and our table looked nice. I ordered a grilled turkey/cheese sandwich which tasted good, My husband ordered a big hamburger, well-done, and fries. He ordered a non-alcoholic beer. The beer arrived with a chilled glass. Later, he requested a second beer and 10 minutes later the waitress said the beer was delayed because they only had 1 non-alcoholic beer upstairs. They had to go to the basement to get more. When the beer was delivered,he had to ask for a second chilled glass. He ate a few bites of his hamburger, and said "what's that on my plate?" We tried to see with a magnifier but finally took a photo and then enlarged it-seriously it looked like a bug. you can see legs , etc. I am attaching a photo- you can decide. We called the waitress over, and she was flustered and removed his plate. She returned in a few minutes with the same plate and burger, and said the chef said it was charcoal piece of burger from his well-done burger. To prove her point , she squished the "charcoal" with her finger right on his plate. SO-if it really was a charred piece, she should never have touched his plate like that. BUT we never got to see if they switched the bug for a piece of charred hamburger. They did offer to cook another hamburger for him, but was told "to willo take at least 15 minutes". We both had lost our appetite for food there's, so we requested the check. It was a gross, frustrating, and inappropriate experience. The waitress expressed that the restaurant had a stellar record and did not want any questionable reviews. We paid in full, and did not leave a tip. I think this restaurant could have handled this so much better. Although the food (before the "char-creature" incident) was pretty goo, we will never eat there again. On July 20th 2024, My husband & I went to the 1864 Steakhouse in Alexandria Bay for lunch. We ordered the shaved prime rib sandwich, french fries, new england clam chowder soup & crab cake. The shaved prime rib sandwich consisted of 1 piece of prime rib inwhich 1/2 of it was all gristle fatty tissue, ( it also had a string bean, cauliflower, carrot in the sandwich ??). The sandwich was unexceptable.... was horrible. The ff were cold & soup was lukewarm. All this was mentioned to our waitress and she just laughed it off like it was no big deal, said "that's how prime rib is") Our experience at the 1864 Steakhouse in Alexandria Bay was the worst! I wouldn't go back there even if it was free. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

My first online review ever but just couldn't let it go! My boyfriend and I were in Alex Bay for two nights. Walked by and thought it looked nice with patio dining. Menu was to our liking. Server was jovial and informative about the area. But! Sorry to say our meal was simply awful. Ribeye, looked and tasted like processed meat. Prime Rib was saturated with a brown gravy and not good at all. Ribeye at least had mashed potatoes but was told the Prime Rib was in a " special, superior, meat section" on the menu" and no sides included. Were served a thimble size ( asked for more) Italian and Blue Cheese dressing which both tasted like bottled but was told they were made fresh. I agree with the previous reviews, this restaurant is not ready for prime time by any stretch. Please take a pause and get some advice, this is way overpriced and simply awful! read more

Being excited to attend our new restaurant we were seated and then waited 40 minutes before we had to get up and go to the bar and order drinks. Back at the table the waitress walked by several times from the other table and someone said excuse me, she came back to the table and said yes with a surprise look on her face. We happened to arrive at this restaurant on the day that they launched their 'New Menu', and we were certainly not disappointed! The menu is fresh and modern, with great creative options that I have not seen before in a resort town restaurant. The service was spot on with a big smile and lots of attention to our needs. And I must say that the interior and 'ambiance' of the place was very colorful and inviting...looked like fine dining and felt like eating at a friend's place. And then the food came: WOW! I had the Gorgonzola Steak Pappardelle, and I have never had anything like it before. I am definitely coming back for that one. My companion had the Spaghetti Blanc (she's a lighter eater), and she couldn't stop raving about it...such a simple dish but full of flavor, and in both cases the pasta was cooked perfectly (that's one of both of our pet peeves). Oh, and the bar and bartender need a shout out too. We both have simple but unique drink orders, hers with diet and no ice and mine with regular and just a little ice...but somehow wherever we go we rarely get what we ordered. Not here! Here the bartender nailed it correctly both times, and although it seems like a little thing, to us it's not. Way to go! So overall we would just like to say thanks to the staff and especially the Chef at this gem in the middle of Alexandria Bay. My husband and I dined here for the first time earlier this week while vacationing in the area. The menu looked fantastic! Sadly, this was not the case! Our waitress seemed like she was high, just very out of it, and the food was just horrible. We had the fried cheese curds, which were overcooked. It was all stuck together in one mass, with many pieces of breading empty because the cheese was cooked too long and melted out. It was also sitting in a pool of grease. The dipping sauce was in a disposable plastic container. For the prices they charge (those of an upscale restaurant), plastic should not be used. My husband had the lobster mac & cheese and said it was too salty. He barely ate any. I ordered the lobster roll. It was the worst one I've ever had. Couldn't taste anything other than celery. The parsley on the accompanying potato chip crumbs was a nice touch...too bad they were Ruffles and not restaurant made. I would definitely not recommend this place, and I will never return. read more

We were sat at a table where the very rude server walked by us over 10 times while serving the table next to us and she never stopped at our table. Had dinner with friends yesterday evening (Saturday). Thought we'd try it out under the new name and management. Party of 8 with no reservation and we were able to be seated right away which was a positive. Waitress was great. Ordered drinks and appetizers which were also good. Although they were out of two top brands of gin - not a show stopper. They offered a limited dinner menu but everyone was able to find something they liked. Food took much longer than expected due to the low number of people dining. Once it arrived, 7 of 8 of the dishes were cold! So cold that the sauce on one had congealed. One steak was supposed to be MR and came out Well done. Sent it back and they grilled a new one and it came out at the right temp. That improved the count for hot dishes to 6 of 8. Although they comp'd the drinks, there was never a real explanation for the cold plates. In short, we won't go back. The bill wasn't cheap and we left very disappointed. read more
