This restaurant is part of the Omni hotel. Not busy for a Saturday evening. Everything that we had was way above average for a hotel restaurant. The menu was "limited", but covered the bases with steak, pork, chicken, fish, etc. If you're staying at the hotel, there's no reason not to eat here, but there's also no reason to seek this place out given the other choices nearby. The breakfast buffet is spendy but the man who makes the omelettes does an absolutely incredible job. It's a nice convenience if staying at the hotel. read more

What a treat! This restaurant is in the Omni Hotel. The valet, hostess, servers, and manager were very attentive. Four of us met for dinner and had a drink at the bar where a friendly bartender served us drinks before dinner. Valet parking is free when you dine here. Our waitress was very pleasant and patient with us as we chatted with each other. We bypassed the Devour Indy and ordered from the regular menu. My husband and I shared the roasted corn chowder, which was served in a tin pan which kept it hot, even the spoon was warm and the chowder was made with creamed corn and fresh herbs. We then had the arugula and pear salad that was chocked full of candied pecans and toasted pumpkin seeds. Yum! The walnut crusted walleye was served with a harvest rice blend. The dish was very good but could have used alittle more sauce. For dessert we all shared the chocolate brownie sundae with caramel and chocolate sauce and a hint of coconut. The building was built in 1913, hence the name. It has a lot of charm and some most unusual sofas in the lobby. Be sure to check them out when you go. Four and a half stars from me! read more

Breakfast buffet at the Omni was exactly what we needed before we went to the Lucas oil stadium to park our car to get on the IMS shuttle bus to see the Indy500, good service, friendly staff for $20 all you can eat breakfast. It's a good thing we had that breakfast because at the race with a new record crowd of 325,000 people, the concession stands were an hour wait lines. read more

The manager came over and asked what he could do but there was no impact to how slow they were. Even after ordering (2 people with salads) they forgot the order and it took forever to come to table. Then to top it off they asked if we wanted the bill 5 minutes later. The only thing they were fast at was bringing the check and then even when we paid it took forever to bring my card back. The Cobb salad was very good and a huge serving but my friend ordered the Avocado salad it was good but very small. She was done eating before I got my salad dressing put on. This was the best hotel breakfast buffet I have ever had! They had more than just the normal offerings such as a gluten free station, high quality butter & yogurt options (grass-fed), and an omelette station with double the standard choices. You could even have seasonings added to your omelette, which really took it to the next level of deliciousness. Also included at the omelette station was kale hash -sweet potatoes, Yukon potatoes, lake, mushrooms, and a fried egg - all made fresh. The coffee here was fantastic! I should have asked what type it was because it was well balanced with a rich flavor. It reminded me of French press coffee, but not quite as strong. They could have done better with their hash browns, as they were a bit rubbery and chewy to me. That would have been my 1 and only complaint. read more

The breakfast buffet has a significant mix of options, including pastries, fruit, smoked salmon, yogurt, pancakes, eggs, blueberry maple sausage, thick bacon, etc. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Breakfast comes with coffee and juice. They leave the coffee carafe at your table (yes!!) and it's good cream. The service is excellent. My only downsides would be that the coffee is not great and the pineapple and melon are really green still. read more

We were prepared to pay the $170 for the Valentine's Day dinner. We made reservations, were seated promptly. However, we then waited 45 minutes after we ordered for food that never came. It got to the point where the waitress and all staff ignored us because they knew we were waiting forever. We then said something and they proceeded to act shocked, like they had no idea that we had been waiting so long. We got up and left, and a few other couples did as well because food just never came out. We will not be returning, super disappointed in a meal that was already over-priced. read more

Our breakfast this weekend was terrible! We have stayed at the Omni several times over the past 6 years and breakfast had always been fantastic. It is one of the few places I go to eat Eggs Benedict with made from scratch Hollandaise sauce. The sauce had so much salt in it it was inedible. After taking two bites, I sent it back. They asked if they could replace it, but there was no way I was eating again from that same kitchen. When the chef came out to check on me, he asked what was wrong, but he hadn't bothered to check the sauce himself. He said there was a new cook, but his quality control was nonexistent! In addition there was one server and a new hire training, so service was lacking too. Both were fine given what they were dealing with, but I expect a little more when paying so much for breakfast. It was quite the surprise when the bill came and my meal was still on it! It took another long while to get a corrected bill. They should have comped the entire meal! I was entertaining customers because my company was hosting a conference at the Omni hotel. After some drinks at the reception, I figured 1913 in the Omni would be the easiest option. Luckily I had several hours to spend on dinner, or this would have been a 1 star experience. We had reservations at 715, sat down right on time. It was only our group of 8 people in the entire restaurant. Over the next 4 hours, about 5 other tables came and went, with sizes ranging from 1-4 people. We orders drinks immediately when we sat down, 2 beers and 2 bottles of wine. We waited 15 minutes for the wine (red), which should have signaled what was coming, but we were chatting and didn't take note. We finally ordered appetizers around 8 (not by choice, that's just when we were finally asked). The appetizers came out at 830. 7 of is got shrimp cocktail and one person ordered onion pie. They brought all the shrimp on one platter, for 7 people to share. We sent it back and then brought it out at 845 on 2 platters. We ordered food at this time. The entree orders: 6 filets, 2 salads with salmon-dressing on the side for both. The sides: 2 mashed potato, 1 order of fries, 1 coleslaw, 2 fresh vegetable orders, 2 side salads. All were priced at $5, and we assumed they were individual portions. Then we waited. And waited. And at 915 the steaks came out. No sides, no salads. 10 minutes later we start to get sides. The vegetables were exactly perfect for 1 person each. The mashed potatoes, fries, and coleslaw were enough to feed 3 people each. At this time I convince the people that ordered steak to start eating while I check on the salads. I'm reassured that they will be right out. 5 minutes later, salads arrive. Covered in creaming dressing. They both get sent back and magically reappear in less than 5 minutes, so I'm assuming I got my same salmon filet that was cooked long ago. Correct, cold and dry. I ate it anyway because the 6 people that ordered steak are done eating. No one ordered dessert, but we sat there int 11 drinking additional bottles of wine. The manager came out and told us she took off the salads ($14 each), but still felt it was appropriate to add auto gratuity of 20% to the bill. I will say, the food was delicious. But the steaks were more expensive than st. Elmo's or Ruth's Chris (and a la carte). The service, obviously, was terrible. In fact, it was the worst service I've ever had. Everyone at the table said something about it, and this was a business dinner. I will never return. Even if I'm staying at the Omni or entertaining customers that are stating there. I'll walk somewhere else downtown. There are just too many good options downtown Indy to pay those prices and get that service. read more

I had dinner here last night and really enjoyed it! The service was prompt and friendly and the food can be described as creative comfort food with ample portion sizes. Here's what I ordered: Appetizer: Blue Cheese & Fig Flatbread w/ Caramelized Onions (it's big enough for two) Main: Local Root Beer Cured Pork Chop w/ Bacon Marmalade Sides: Buttered Corn, Brussel Sprouts & Redskin Mashed Potatoes Dessert: Chocolate Bread Pudding w/ Frozen Vanilla Custard The pork chop was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a great bacon marmalade. The mashed potatoes included the skin, just the way I like them, and the corn was obviously fresh off the cob (as evidenced by the presence of a few silks). While it was hard to stop eating, I had to box up a portion of my meal to save room for dessert, and I'm glad I did. Whoever's idea it was to add chocolate to bread pudding is a smart person and it made for a lovely ending to a good meal. read more

One of my favorite places in downtown for a great meal. In keeping with the Omni tradition of excellent cuisine, this place never disappoints. The people that serve here are very pleasant, helpful and attentive. The breakfast buffet has standard fare, and is always hot. Thee is a great selection of fresh fruits, Indiana favorites and the best coffee I've had in a hotel restaurant. In addition, there are fresh omelet a prepared to order. Here for devour. They start you off with a veggie bucket on ice yummy. Then the bread with herb butter. Double Yummy. Next I had the soup which was corn chowder. It comes out in a little pan, it was very creamy and tasty. Next was the bone in ribeye. I will say I was very disappointed with it. It was topped in a very sweet sauce and onion straws and bacon. Came out to give this restaurant a try during Devour Indy. It was extremely cold weekend so glad they offered complimentary valet for guest dining at their restaurant. Lefe saver and also gives a classy touch to the experience. Classy touch ends right here. Walked in to the restaurant which was situated by the lobby and we were seated instantly. Ambience was a little out dated, just looks like a normal hotel lobby used for breakfast buffets. Our table had a younger maybe newer hostess and she was all over the place. Drinks are a tad expensive. My husband and I ordered the following from the $35 devour menu: Mine -Smoked gouda arancini- tasted like flavorless deep fried ball with dry stuffing inside and sourish tomato puree to pair with. -Crispy skin sea bass- good but nothing to rave about. I wouldn't re-order this. Paired with tomato and some broth. Meh. -Apple cinnamon pie- I can make better apple pie. How can you mess up a dessert? His -Corn chowder-Husband said this was okay. -Braised beef tips-He would rather not order it again. -Sugar cream pie with raspberry compote-a big NO! It was nothing like the signature Hoosier pie. Very funny filling with what tasted like uncooked dough for the base. My guess is they just take it out from the freezer, do a poor job heating up and serve it. All in all, this place was a disaster. Also, our hostess almost brought us our check. We had to remind her of our desserts. When we mentioned about the uncooked pie, they mentioned not being able to do much pride wise as they're all bundled in together as a 3 course meal. Didnt not win me when they had the chance to. Was in Indianapolis for a convention and made dinner reservations. To our surprise the place was empty upon our arrival. Somehow we expected a busy place and that made us wonder if we made the right choice. Anyway, from beginning to end service was professional. Prices were on the higher side but expected in the convention center area. The highlights beside quality of service were the bread which was really good and the salads. The entrees were OK but we expected better quality for the price paid. The halibut was a bit dry and a bit "fishy", the lamb shops were nothing special. Overall, OK place with impeccable service and a straightforward menu. The kitchen should bring it up a notch to make it a go to place. read more

Ups and Downs. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give this a thumbs up or thumbs down. I sort of want to give it a meh, but considering the plethora of restaurants, a meh is pretty much the same thing as thumbs down since you're unlikely to return. The service was okay, the host didn't want to be there at all, and had been poorly trained, I don't think he is a people person. Our waitress was more friendly but not the greatest. We got wine and she forgot the ice bucket, then forgot it again. She didn't visit the table as often as she should. We were there for a convention with tens of thousands of people crawling around outside and the restaurant was nearly empty, that was a bad sign. It sits on the first floor of the hotel, wide open to the lobby, felt like a cafeteria because of that. My view during dinner was the elevator bank across the lobby. Service all told was a little slow, then there was the food. I got the indiana onion pie for an appetizer, it was a smaller portion than I expected, but it was very good. My wife had a beet salad, it was okay, but more frisee with a little bit of beets than what I'd call a "beet salad." For the main course I got the skirt steak, and a side of brussels sprouts. The sprouts were slightly undercooked, and steak was perfectly cook and every good. My wife got the pork chop with bacon marmalade or what have you. It was a big thick two rib bone pork chop cut, almost a standing rib roast. My wife was worried it'd be undercooked in the middle, but it wasn't, and it too was very good (especially with all that bacon marmalade). She also got mac and cheese, and she liked it but I thought it was run of the mill (restaurant mac and cheese never seems to live up to its mythology). We did not get dessert. We did however get wine. We paid $48 for a bottle service. Two days later we got the exact same bottle of wine, the same, at The Eagle's Nest, for $40 for a bottle. The Eagle's Nest is a rotating restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Hotel, really nice amazing views. 1913 had views of the hotel lobby. Which one would I expect to pay a premium at? And yet.. the wine was nearly 25% more expensive at 1913 than The Eagle's Nest. All told, the food was good, but the execution of the rest of the restaurant was off the mark. Keep the chef, but get otherwise different management. read more

The buffet looked exceptional (with an omelet station and a wide variety of healthy cereal choices), but I spotted Lemon Blueberry Corn Cakes on the menu, and how could I not try that??? After what was considered a less than satisfactory initial dinner experience at 1913 Restaurant we were asked by the general manager to come back and allow 1913 to prove it has a better experience to offer, and they produced. I headed in a bit early to wait for my fiancé to get off work and had a wonderful time at the bar with the kind and very entertaining bar tender! As we sat for dinner we were greeted by the same waiter that we had had on our initial visit. Although still a bit clumsy with the wine opening it was evident that there had been effort to enhance his knowledge of handling wines! Bravo! This time the food was great! The steak was seasoned perfectly and the short ribs were very tender. Everything is as you would hope. Thank you for inviting us back for another taste and a great experience! read more

The menu is haute comfort food, and the food is locally sourced and beautifully prepared. Tonight I had devilled eggs with bacon and radish, an amazing salad of Frisee and roasted beets with lemon vinaigrette and a veggie platter with mac and cheese, mushrooms, roasted Brussels sprouts, and pattie pan squash and orange, purple, and white carrots. Vegetarian nirvana! However, the meat and fish dishes looked great too. Check with Tom, waiter extraordinaire, for wine selections His recommendation of Justin Chardonnay for the veggies was amazing! Kudos to Chef Laurence Scully for the new menu, and thanks to Omni for the amazing food. Two suggestions: Better coverage for the maitre d' desk, as I saw several guests stop by during periods of no coverage, and more advertisement for the bar/sandwich menu, as these same guests looked at the dinner menu and left. Pretty big menu--take a look at the bar menu too! Definitely different. We split the Indiana board cheese platter, 2 kinds of sliders, and deviled eggs and we were both stuffed. Watch out for pickled habenero peppers on the cheese board among the pickled cherry tomatoes!! (instantly burned a hole in my gastric lining, which kinda put a damper on the rest of my dinner) Also-no hard cheeses on the board? Whiskey daisy drink listed as a "Sour" on the drink menu, but it was not so sour and really bourbon-y. It was pretty slow for a late dinner on a Thurs night, and so was the service. It's in a hotel, which I admit to having a little prejudice about -- does anyone really expect good food at a hotel? But this place is clearly trying to be something more than just a hotel restaurant. It doesn't quite succeed. The beet salad is okay, but the dressing is overwhelmingly lemony. The blue cheese and fig flat bread is really nondescript -- shouldn't blue cheese give the flatbread a lift? The cured pork chop is really cured -- it tastes almost like ham and is pretty dry. The brussels sprouts that accompanied it were lovely, but the brussels sprouts that strangely appeared as a side dish (?) were not -- I would guess they were frozen. Corn also made an appearance as a separate side dish, but it, too, was frozen corn (or canned), which seemed odd, since it was being served on its own. The corn which accompanied the roasted chicken was fresh, but the chicken was not particularly well-roasted. It didn't have a crispy skin, and the meat didn't have the texture of well-roasted chicken. The chocolate bread pudding was serviceable, but the fruit crisp was a disaster -- and definitely not crisp. From the descriptions of these dishes, you can see that they are trying for something more elevated than a typical hotel restaurant. I do hope they eventually succeed. read more

My husband and I had a reservation for 6:30 and arrived to discover we were the only patrons the restaurant had. The service was very quick, but our waiter seemed bored out of his mind and a bit annoyed that he had to wait on us. I had the lamb chops, which were alright, nothing to rave about. My husband had the pork chop as well as the macaroni and cheese. Once again, nothing to rave about. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. It's simply mediocre food from a hotel restaurant. This was very disappointing because I was so excited about the concept of this restaurant, Indiana products, farm to table, throwback to yesteryear, but was sadly let down. read more

Nice concept of Indiana home grown, however nothing special. Relish tray and bread to start the meal were both good, however main courses not impressive. Two people out of our party of 7 sent their filets back because they were over cooked while another member of our party's pork chop was served well after the rest of ours. We also purchased a bottle of Prisoner wine which was $98 and this same bottle of wine is sold at Mesh (better food, ambiance and service) for $77. Will probably not return. read more

I've eaten lunch and dinner at 1913 many, many times. Food is always delicious (steak, pork chops, deviled eggs!!) and service always impeccable. But, this weekend was my first time experiencing the breakfast buffet. Great selection from fruits and cereals to sausage, bacon, eggs, French toast and even smoked salmon. But, my favorite was the omelet station. Made to order from a variety of veggies, meats and cheeses, the chef prepared ours right in front of as we enjoyed his talents. Delicious! Most notable was the fact that with ten of us at the table, not a single one of us had a complaint. Lucy was our server and we loved her just as much as our food. What a sweet and accommodating personality! We hope we helped her celebrate her birthday as much as she helped (and let!) us celebrate our wedding the night before. We stay at the Omni 3 or 4 times a year. We won't forget, next time that we love breakfast at 1913 just as much as we love lunch and dinner. read more

Excellent breakfast, will definitely go back. Got there at 6:30 sharp on a Sat before a 7am meeting and they were very fast and accommodating (I was the only one there so early). Staff was very friendly and my waitress specifically was wonderful- made recommendations to my order (omelette and hazelnut latte), offered to make my coffee and fruit side to go, and got my check quickly. Food and coffee was delicious and reasonably priced for downtown and the Omni. More flavorful than Patachu in my opinion. I had the filet for my entree, which was cooked perfectly. My husband had the pork belly, which was also wonderful. The desserts were also great. The service is very friendly. Went for Lunch. Ordered a burger medium rare and the meat came out raw and cold I.e. was not cooked at all. The waiter said he would bring me another and 20 minutes later my co-workers were done eating and I still hadn't received my cooked burger yet. When he said it would be out in a minute, I ponted out that everyone else was done eating so I no longer wanted it. My coworker ordered a burger medium well and got medium rare. Perhaps someone should train the lunch cook on proper meat temperatures. Additionally, the waiter was unenthusiastic and seemed like he really didn't enjoy working there. Only two other tables were occupied and it took 45 minutes to get our food. If this was a standalone restaurant and not supported by the omni hotel it would have been out of business a long time ago. read more

I really really wanted to like this place, but I just really didn't. Came here with a friend for dinner on a Saturday night for dinner and we were the only ones there...so that was awkward. Our waiter was very nice though, so that's gotta count for something, right? You are served with a relish tray while perusing the menu, and I thought that was a very nice touch. The ranch dip was really good and I liked munching on veggies more than I would have bread. We split the corn fritters to start and they were excellent. I wasn't terribly hungry, so I ordered one of their "small plates" of gnocchi with brown butter sauce. It was not good at all. I tasted no brown butter at all. The sauce tasted more like tomatoes than anything else, but not good, restaurant quality tomato sauce...more like canned, Chef Boyardee stuff. Just not good. My friend got the filet and said it just was not very good, but that the mashed potatoes made up for it. We split the sugar cream pie for dessert and it was just ok. Not anything I feel like I'd need to get again. Overall, for a nice Saturday night dinner out, it just missed the mark. read more

We were there for dinner with the devour special. We both chose the corn chowder which arrived so saturated with pepper that you could not taste any corn or anything else but pepper. I ordered the steak which arrived overcooked, I sent it back and got a steak that was almost raw. Sent back again and got the same overcooked steak back again. Decided it was a lost cause and ate the overcooked steak. My wife ordered the pork chop which arrived in a dessicated condtion. It had been cooked until the last drop of moisture had evaporated, and then 30 minutes more. She chose not to return it feeling that it too was a lost cause. We had great hopes for dessert Sugar Cream Pie a Hoosier favorite. This was no sugar cream pie. It was some awful combination of custard and/or tapioca that was revolting. The manager stopped by to inquire about our meal, he left totally disinterested. No allowace was given for the terrible food. One the bright side the service from our waiter was very good. read more
