    A side of fruit

I was scrolling through my collection of local places that I have saved on Yelp that I'd like to visit and came across Vivante. That's when it dawned on me that my husband, then-fiance, and I have already been here and we did not have a good experience. The food was just okay, but the service was lacking. The restaurant was nearly empty, so we expected to receive lots of attention. Instead, staff members stood chatting amongst themselves and the bartender was lazer- focused on the ladies seated at the bar, which resulted in us having to wait an exorbitant amout of time for simple mimosas. We'd been seated very near to the kitchen door and could hear all of the chatter and commotion going on in there as well. We were on a day-date and my husband had chosen this restaurant based on the esthetics. They really missed the mark on service, which was both surprising and disappointing.

Sooo I enjoyed the meal I chose but I tasted my friends meal and didn't like those (even thought I easily would've chosen their meal). I liked the lobster tail. It was super seasoned and worked well with the cornbread and the carrots. The cornbread is not "traditional" cornbread. My favorite thing was the artichoke dip. I love a nice warm cheesy dip with a good crusty edge and it was just that! The lemon drop martini was well made. I also tried the crab cakes and those were really mushy. I ended up eating my friend's crab cakes mixed in with my artichoke dip which totally worked lol. Our waitress was awesome. We had a large party and she handled all our questions and requests so well. I don't mind a pricier dinner but it was a little pricey for the taste of the food imo. Very gorgeous restaurant though!

I love going to Vivante. It has become one of my families absolute favorite places for brunch. The traditional Eggs Benedict is outstanding. It is rich, perfectly balanced, and consistently delicious every single time. Vivante has also become part of our family birthday tradition. We love celebrating there because we can enjoy a great brunch and order a birthday cake at the same time. It makes every celebration feel personal and memorable. Highly recommend Vivante for anyone looking for great food, warm service, and a place that makes special moments even better

    Power Bowl

Had lunch here with a girlfriend and it was delicious. We both got the Power Bowl with no onion and I did get the egg scrambled. The Mrs Claus cocktail was so good and is only available in this restaurant in the hotel. (Seasonal). The food was fresh and had a nice presentation. It's a quiet and relaxing space with an area to sit at the bar. The hostess was very sweet and our waitress was pulling double duty with servicing and make our drinks.

Have you ever tried to give a restaurant a second chance but regretted it? We have. We walked into a very cold restaurant and after expressing concern about the temp they seated us next to a door with a draft. We almost walked out but decided to keep our coats and try the food. NY strip was alright, our son reported that the filet was good but the chicken pot pie was so small once you peal the crust back you could fit the filling in about a 1/2 measuring cup and it contained no chicken.

Vivante offers a refined, modern dining experience with a calm, upscale feel that sets it apart in the Carmel area. The interior is elegant yet comfortable, with a clean design and a warm ambiance that makes it ideal for a special meal or a quiet night out. The staff elevate the experience even further--professional, thoughtful, and well-versed in the menu. The menu leans into European-inspired dishes with fresh, high-quality ingredients and beautiful presentation. Whether it's their seafood, pasta, or seasonal specialties, everything feels carefully crafted and balanced. Their craft cocktails and wine list complement the food perfectly, making the whole meal feel cohesive. Vivante is the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy each course, and leave feeling truly taken care of.

    Bad punctuation

We came here for dinner before a concert at the Palladium. The outdoor patio was lovely. Everything else was really just okay. Nothing was terrible, but for the price, it was a bit disappointing. Our server raved about the Caesar salad and said it was so popular that they only had 4 left. I like to trust server recommendations, so we went for the Caesar salad. It was a totally average Caesar salad. Then I thought about the fact that we were there at 5:15 on a Thursday. They literally just opened. Why did they only have 4 Caesar salads available for the rest of the night? My husband said, "Oh, do your food deliveries come on Fridays?" And the server said yes. So we felt sort of conned into ordering the last of their oldest salad. For entrees, I ordered the scallops and my husband ordered the duck. Both came with risotto, and both risottos were in desperate need of salt. My husband's duck was okay, but not great. The skin was fatty & chewy, not crispy. I was a bit concerned about my scallops because they were super fishy-smelling, but they tasted fine. The description mentioned a chili oil, which I had thought would be a drizzle, rather than the puddle of oil that was drowning my risotto. I had a simple question about one of the dessert drinks (What is the seasonal "cello"?) but the server didn't know, and it took so long for her to come back with the answer that we no longer had time for anything else because we needed to get to the show. This restaurant reminded me of a wannabe Provision (down by Ironworks). The food seemed similar, and similarly priced, but not nearly as good. I would come back here for drinks before a show (They had really unique & tasty cocktails.), but not for a full "upscale" dining experience. This last point will not matter to most people, but I do expect upscale restaurants not to have blatant punctuation errors on their menus. Misused apostrophes are a huge pet peeve of mine, and there was an unnecessary apostrophe on the menu. (Yes, I'm an absolute nerd, but I know I'm not the only one. Stop using apostrophes in plurals!)

My boyfriend received a call with great news so we decided on an impromptu celebratory date night, I've had Vivante bookmarked for a while and it's right down the street from my place so it was an obvious choice. We did make a reservation and noticed that they have a $50 cancelation fee (yikes!) but it didn't matter b/c we didn't plan on canceling! Vivante is located in the bottom of the beautiful Carmichael hotel, we did not see anyone at the host stand so we started to walk in where we were promptly "stopped" by Noelle with a, "Can I help you?". Yes, that was the first thing out of her mouth - not a "Welcome to Vivante!", not a "Table for 2?", it's a Thursday night and the establishment was pretty empty besides someone at the bar and two taken tables - that interaction, very much worried me we would have a poor experience but nonetheless, we advised her we had a reservation. She asked us if we had a seating preference and lead us to a nice window spot. Our server Aimee, was nice and attentive to our needs, and staff made rounds clearing tables of empty plates/glassware throughout our visit. We were provided a complementary chilled shrimp to clear our pallets, it had a spicy dipping sauce that paired well. I had a Black Manhattan that I'm sure caused a hair to grow on my chest and my boyfriend had a Lazy River. For our entrees, he went with the NY Strip and since I have a smaller appetite, I decided on combining the Crab Cakes and Brussels Sprouts appetizers. Our food was absolutely delicious! A huge compliment to the kitchen, we were very impressed!

This restaurant/bar resides in the lovely Carmichael hotel. I decided to venture out of my room to explore a bit and decided pop in for a drink and order dinner to go. The bartender was super sweet and gave great recommendations for drinks and details on what to expect on some dinner menu items. The drinks were not only cute but also tasted great and served their purpose lol. I ordered my food to go so I missed out on what I'm sure would've been an excellent presentation, but it was still delicious. Cant wait to return

    Lady Ella

Me and my fiancé came to celebrate 365 days till our wedding which is at Hotel Carmichael so had to try out vivante. We loved how small and quiet the atmosphere was. I started with their famous lady Ella cocktail and loved it. My fiancé said their old fashion was very good. The crab cakes were amazing and paired well with the sauce. I asked the server if she recommend the salmon or scallop dish and she recommended the salmon dish because you get more bang for your buck which I appreciated her being honest about. The salmon dish they had this month was paired with the asparagus risotto which was refreshing. My second cocktail I got was the red Astaire which I liked at first but it did not pair well with the salmon. My fiancé tried it and said it reminded him of a jolly rancher which ruined my appetite for it. The desert was amazing also. We were going to the theatre nearby for a show after dinner so asked for the check 30 minutes before the show started and it took them 20-25 mins to finally get us the check because they had a big private party.

Vivante is located on the first floor (or bottom level) of the Carmichael. I'd recommend parking in one of the garages and walking over. A fair warning if you're unsure about the dress code - the ambiance is extremely nice. It's quiet and sophisticated and definitely tailors to a higher class audience. It was pretty empty for a Friday night. The live music outside was a nice touch and I'd love to go back to enjoy the patio, but it was too windy on this day. The service was great and she was super professional and poised. I had a glass of rose and the halibut with asparagus. The rose was smooth and slightly sweet - loved it. The halibut was AMAZING. The dish mixed chickpeas and cauliflower and tomatoey broth with a perfectly cooked piece of fish. I'd get it again and recommend it to anyone that goes. Overall this is a very nice restaurant with an older clientele ambiance just from how upper scale it is. Great food and service!

My partner surprised me for Valentine's Day and booked us for an outdoor, private dining experience. It was intimate and even though it was a cold night, our little igloo had a space heater so we had no need for our coats. We received champagne upon arrival and a wonderful charcuterie board. For dinner I ordered the Provencal Chicken and for dessert I had the Home Spun Ice Cream, both were delicious. Our entire experience was wonderful, beautiful setting and great service.

If I could just keep writing about how my birthday experience was at Vivante last week, I could just go on and on! Vivante was on my brunch list for almost 2 years, and I finally got a chance to visit. I made advance reservations and was immediately escorted in. Let me tell you about the ambience, it's historic, classy, rich and so royal. Every piece and seating felt right out of a book. Ryan our server made my birthday and brunch so memorable. He was so courteous, efficient and gave us so much time and space to make a choice. Ryan celebrated my birthday with a beautiful cake. And now the food, it was amazing just as the place. The scones were great and the veggie quiche had a rich flavor of cheese with a fresh side of vegetables. I just had such a good time. Like I said I could keep writing!

We went for a 3:00 show on a Sunday such that by the time we got out, it was 6:00-still early. It was in the 30's outside and already dark (thanks DLS time). Yet as we reached the top of the stairs to the lobby I was immediately disappointed that there was no fire lit in the fireplace. There were only three parties in the place. One was around the corner in the adjoining sitting area and may or may not have been drinking. There were two couples at the bar, where we considered also sitting. But the only empty spot for two had two dirty drink glasses from a previous patron still sitting. So we opted for the leather couch and chair in the main area just across from the bar. And that's where we waited, and waited, for almost 30 minutes, before giving up on getting served (or acknowledged). There was only one bartender, so we were fine with going up to order but communication would have been helpful. We stood at the bar while she chatted with the two couples, who'd all been served. We couldn't really figure out what she was doing as she seemed busy-ish yet wasn't serving, or clearing, or washing, and we were chatting between ourselves and didn't really give it much thought. Then she said she was out of something and was leaving the bar to go fetch it. We asked her to let us know when she was ready to serve us, and we took our seats to resume our conversation. The bartender returned after a while, and she served one of the original couples ... for another 10 minutes at least. Again we were talking so, while an irritation, it was in the background. About 50 minutes into our visit, she came over and took our drink order. This was my third or fourth visit, and I'd ordered my drink, an old fashioned, before and knew what to expect: bourbon of choice, Luxardo cherry, and a dehydrated orange slice. Ten minutes later we got our drinks. Now mind you, my friend ordered a glass of wine. Nothing time consuming about that. She noted that her pour was smaller than the other times she'd been there. Mine came with the whisky cube already on its way to melted, a broken (a.k.a. piece of) cherry and a twist. What? Where's my glorious little crunchy orange wheel of goodness? I had spied them on the bar earlier. No soup for me! Also, and I can't be sure 100% sure of this, but I tasted neither bitters nor syrup. Was this really just a bourbon rocks? It took a minute but we realized this gal cannot tend and talk at the same time. My friend commented that she had no idea what will happen when the place gets busy, as it has been every other time I've been there. We left after 8:00, after one drink, and for me, $21 lighter. Yeah, it's pricey. And the Carmichael crowd is a discriminating one. So we expected better. Much, much better.

You will know you're at The Goat when you see a big American flag flapping in the breeze outside of the restaurant. You'll also know you're at The Goat when you spot the Donald Trump beer tap handle at the bar. OK! They must really like the movie "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" here. There really is a place for everyone, and I somehow found myself in this place. But you know what? I got nothing but love (or like, really) for The Goat. My experience was great. The service was excellent. The beer, wine and spirits list was outstanding. The music they were playing was nice (heck yeah to whoever chose to play mid-90s Incubus, Bush and Marcy Playground.) I'm the type of person who goes to a dive-ish bar and orders wine, and the kind people at The Goat didn't even blink, and poured me a nice, generous glass. Fine, two glasses. If you're the kind of person who drinks bourbon, your heart will start beating faster when you step into The Goat. They have an amazing bourbon list. On Wednesdays, they do $12 pours of select bottles, some of which are $100+ per bottle. So, you can try out some top-shelf bourbon at a decent price. Mark your calendar for Wednesdays at The Goat, if you're into bourbon. My visit was just for drinks with a small party, and we didn't try any of the food. But we got a variety of drinks among us, including red wine, beer, straight bourbon and blueberry cider. They have a lot of different types of alcohol to please an adult palate. Speaking of adults, this place is 21+ only!

We visited The Goat for the first time Tuesday evening and had a terrible experience. It took…read moreforever for anyone to take our drink order. And when they finally did, she made us pay before she ever served a drink. Not only that, it took nearly 30 minutes to complete our drink order. The worst part is that the bartender forgot one of our drinks and we were told she only charged us for two drinks instead of three which was a flat out lie. Especially since we had a long drawn out conversation about her inability to change the alcohol type in one of our drinks because it's premixed, you'd think she would remember. Sadly, no. We should have left then but were there for a watch party. So we ended up reordering and paying again for the missing drink. We moved to a different area of the bar and still experienced subpar service. Nearly every staff member in this place had the look on their faces like everyone was an inconvenience to them. Not one smile. Very limited interaction. And overall, extremely poor customer service. I would not recommend! Cherry on top: when you pay, they have the unmitigated gall to have the tip increments go from 22-30%. Not a one person who "served" us worked to deserve a tip of that magnitude. And I'm saying this as a very generous tipper! Never again....which I'm sure they don't mind since it's clear they don't care.

In…read moreshort: The food is dope, the service is attentive, the restaurant is classy but approachable. But mostly it's for Aaron Hansen, the chef at Lone Pine. He's a semifinalist for the Best Chef: Great Lakes (IL, IN, MI, OH) category. What an honor! I'm curious to see if he gets the medal, but even if not, hopefully this recognition will draw people to visit Lone Pine, because people really need to visit. I don't know how Lone Pine would describe its menu, but I would call it elevated comfort food. One of the things my table ordered was chicken piccata. When was the last time you saw chicken piccata on a menu?! It was delicious, and served with mashed potatoes and lettuce leaves that added a nice, fresh crunch to each bite. We also got the roasted salmon, which was served with fingerling potatoes in a pesto sauce, with arugula on the side. This, too, was delicious and rich, yet fresh. I ordered the short ribs, which came with polenta and caramelized pearl onions. The short ribs were just fatty enough, and the sauce that they were surrounded by was unctuous and wonderful to eat with the polenta. I guess I should have started this review by writing about our first course! We got the French onion soup, bloody Mary wedge salad and the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad at Lone Pine is probably the best Caesar salad that I've eaten in Carmel, and maybe in all of the Indianapolis area. The thing that Lone Pine does differently and spectacularly is that they use breadcrumbs and not croutons. That makes all the difference! Granted, it does look a bit like a pile of pencil shavings on a plate, but sometimes the dowdiest foods are the best-tasting foods. The result is a satisfyingly salty, crunchy, creamy, crispy salad that I couldn't stop eating. I know I will be back to Lone Pine for the Caesar salad. We ended our meal by sharing two desserts: the apple pie panna cotta and the Lone Pine chocolate cake. Both desserts were amazing, but the cake won us all over because it looked deceptively heavy, but it was light and airy, and came with slightly sweet whipped cream. The service at Lone Pine is exceptional. They pay attention to detail here, and all of the little things are taken care of. Our server gave us just enough time between courses. Our water was refilled unobtrusively. We didn't get asked whether we've dined there before (because who cares?) and the menu wasn't over-explained (thank goodness, because I can indeed read). One thing we also noticed that we appreciated: The music was just loud enough to hear it, but not loud enough to notice it too much! It's these little things that come together to make a great dining experience.

My first experience at the restaurant was decent, so I figured we would give it another shot. I recall my first meal being a bone-in pork chop that was overly salted. I'll make my review brief. The restaurant was not too busy but our service was fairly slow, two separate drink orders that were requested never made it to the table, the environment was noisy/music too loud, etc. I decided to go with something very basic for my food order. My thought was, "I'll see how good they are at doing something simple." I got the black and burger cooked to the chef's preferred temperature (medium). My burger came out dry/crumbly/crispy/well done. Yikes. The server did offer to provide a complimentary drink while he asked the chef to prepare another burger (a nice gesture). However, the second burger came out raw (see photo). I'm a medium rare steak guy but this was inedible. The fries were very good. I'm not typically someone who is overly critical of restaurants but for the amount of money you're paying for these meals, the food and service should be excellent. My two experiences were fair and poor. This is very unfortunate because I've visited the sister restaurants (Beholder and Milktooth) many times and have had nothing but great experiences at both. Probably the last time I'll go.
