Lately I have had a real nightmare with customer service. It seems like every time I reach out to a new company, or even one I have been dealing with for years, they manage to turn a simple exchange into a nightmare. And then my ice maker stops producing ice...ugh... Ok, I will deal with you later... A few days later I went into the freezer for an ice cream sandwich which is a liquid versus a solid... *sigh*. I bought the fridge brand new 16 years ago and have never had an issue so I was afraid it was one of those situations where the thing just dies. And genuinely I've never had to deal with appliance repair but I do know I always fear that you just do not know who you are inviting into your house or what kind of service you are going to get until you are there. A close friend has a huge list of recommendations she gets from family and friends. She gave me 1st Appliance Repair saying she WAS going to use his services but ending up cancelling and not needing his help but that he came highly recommended from another friend. Hmmmm... I called and he was genuinely way nicer than most businesses. I am a very straight forward person and it is hard to impress me and instill confidence with a phone conversation yet he did. He was friendly but not overly so - direct, asking questions and very clearly knowing a lot but not needing to say it. He gave me his rates, making them very clear and setting up an appointment so he could give me a heads up of at least a half hour so I could head home from the office. He called to give me 45 minutes and was super on the dot punctual! He was so warm, friendly and, again, CLEARLY very knowledgeable but not in that condescending or braggart way. As in, after a few minutes I genuinely way educated about my fridge and feel so great that I do have the fridge I do. We really researched before buying it and because of that this was an easy fix! With parts and labor it was just over $200 and he was a task master! I cannot stress enough how amazing this experience was...like, no one WANTS to have an appliance issue. I definitely have to say that having someone to call that I trust is a major relief. read more

Barry is a pro, and a kind patient person who is willing to show an amateur some basic appliance maintenance as he performs repairs required because that basic maintenance was neglected! I called 1st Appliance Repair, left a message, and Barry responded within the hour. Our refrigerator wouldn't cool, although the bottom freezer was working fine. Barry said he would be here the next afternoon, and in the meantime, suggested we get some dry ice to keep our frozen foods frozen. I texted him a photo of our fridge model number, so he was able to confirm that he had the parts necessary for repairs. He explained the fee schedule, so there would be no surprises upon completion of the repairs. On repair day, he showed up on time, and 45 minutes later, Barry had the repair completed. I just wanted to leave this here. I called Barry yesterday morning about our refrigerator that was making a rattling noise. We know nothing about fixing things at our house. He asked what it was doing and what kind of refrigerator, I told him. He then proceeded to give me very specific advice about how to defrost it and clean out 2 pieces of tubing in the back to keep it from happening again. This fixed our problem! And he could have easily charged us an hourly fee to come out and tell us the exact same thing. I appreciate the knowledge and advice, and I respect this kind of work ethic. called again for broken washer, then again for broken dishwasher (yes 4 major appliences broke within 6 months of each other). He gave excellent advice, diagnosed over the phone and didn't charge. Even explained why I'm have problem with new fridge (find company with 10 year factory warentee, not extended because they make money both ways). Most fridges nowadays last 4-5 years because the compressors are sooo weak (to be energy saving) that they burn out. And then they need to be replaced. That's why our parent's fridges lasted 20-25 years, and ours last 4-5. Parents may use more electricity, but it's not the compressors burning out. Will use again. read more

Sad but true, I would have to warn to stay away from 1st Appliance Repair. I found them after googling and they could come out the same day to repair our refrigerator. Well, it ends out that in an attempt of trying to save us money in labor, our refrigerator needed to be all emptied out for 4 days and then repaired after that. I'm all for saving money and appreciate the thought, but after waking up the next day seeing our refrigerator in array I called someone else for a second opinion. He's coming out today and it will take 1 1/2 hours to fix. Nice guy, but didn't work out for us. read more

We were extremely disappointed with the quality of the service we received last night for our washing machine. The technician did call and ask if he could come last night instead of this morning and I said yes. Because we are sheltering in place because of Covid-19, we could not watch and see what he was doing, but it appeared that he didn't know what he was doing either! He told me it might be a bearing, then he said it was the water pressure, finally he said it was the timer (which I told him in the first place). He didn't seem to know how to take the back off the washer. When he quoted me $400 to replace the timer (with a 6 month warranty) I said "No, I will get a new washer", He asked for my credit card and I said, "NO" I did give him a check. He left. When we walked back through the laundry room there was water all over the floor, under both the washer and dryer. That was from when he pulled it away from the wall and the hose disconnected. My husband and I had to move the washer and try to soak up the water with towels (and no way to wash them). We are in our 70's. I will never call this company again nor recommend them to anyone. I found that they work out of an apartment and drive their own cars. I am not even sure if the is a real business. read more

He did a great job and took care to make sure the line was not visible (it had to go behind some shelves to reach the kitchen plumbing). He had to locate some special parts, too. I thought I would support small business, wrong decision. Called Barry on Wednesday, he said he'd be out Saturday am between 10-noon. So I canceled the other company I had coming out on Monday. Saturday around 11:30, Barry calls and tells me that he looked up my model, the code it was showing could either be a $20 fuse, or $200 control. So he suggest instead of him coming to look at it, that I just go out and buy another dryer. He didn't want to come out because the fuse is in a hard to reach spot, he didn't want to put the effort in to check it. So he canceled the appointment. Now I cant get another repair man out for another week. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If he didn't want to do the job, he could have at least said so when I set up the appointment. I don't like writing bad reviews because I understand that people and situations are not perfect and sometimes people are at a bad place in life or upset about things, BUT this has to be said. My friend's Washing machine needed repair. Her husband was out of town, and she has a new baby. I helped her out and found a couple of repair options for her. When she called 1st Appliance and told them what was wrong with the machine, at least what she thought it may be, the owner absolutely REFUSED to want to look at or fix it. She asked why and he said he would NOT look at it. She was curious why, and he became very belligerent and rude and told her to call GE and ask them to look at it. She pressed again and said to him, I hear you that you don't want to take a look at it, but why won't you tell me why? He HUNG up on her. She thought about it and figures he felt it wasn't worth ($$$) his time. Why couldn't he just have some decency and courtesy and tell her that. His behavior is inexcusable and completely unprofessional. Alright-he didn't want to look at it. FINE. She's already found another company who was extremely helpful and is HAPPY to come out and help and fix her washing machine and that company will get a wonderful review. read more
