A few days later, there was a small issue with the expansion tank, but they came back out same day and quickly fixed it under warranty. Water was leaking from our upstairs bedroom attic down to our first floor living room ceiling.1st Call came out and after 3-1/2 hours of looking at it and talking about it, gave us two proposals to correct the problem. The first was to replace the supposedly damaged and leaking evaporator coil and drain pan inside the air handling unit at a cost of nearly $7k, with only a 90-day warranty on certain parts and labor. The timing to receive the parts and schedule the installation was undetermined. The second option was to replace the entire air handler and outside condensing unit at a cost of $16.5k. We were told that this equipment was available from their warehouse and work could begin as early as the next day. In either case, they emphatically stated that they would not work with any home insurance company because they would not provide any required pricing breakdowns and they always tended to make them "look bad". It was recommended that we keep the unit turned off until the system was repaired/replaced and that we stay in another part of the house that has a separate unit until then. We contacted another HVAC company to look at the problem. They came out the next day. After an hour they had the unit checked out and determined that there was no air handling unit problem, the evaporator coil was fine. and that we had a plugged-up drain line. They flushed the line out with compressed air, vacuumed it out and had the system back on for less than $500. It has been working perfectly for two weeks now. We had used 1st Call for 2-3 years prior; never again. You can imagine the level of betrayal we experienced. Be cautious of companies that are either incompetent, untrustworthy or just out and out fraudulent. read more

The worst HVAC repair company in San Antonio. My AC was not working. Thermostat was set to 75 and it's constantly over 85 in the house. Technician comes out when I'm at work. Only my senior citizen mom is there. Technician says AC is working great and nothing is wrong and then charges us $75. I come home from work and the inside temp is still above 85 degrees and the thermostat is set to 75. I call First Call back and say the AC is still not working. They send the same technician back the next day who then discovers that the thermostat is overheating and needs to be replaced. Strange that a certified HVAC technician did not find the issue on the first visit. He then says that it will be $75 for the diagnosis. I told him I'm not paying that because he missed the issue yesterday and they need to waive the fee. He reluctantly agreed. read more

Excellent service today! Ryan McCleary and his Apprentice were prompt, informative and thorough. I utilized the drain cleaning special advertised on TV. I suspected a clog and they cleared it out. The value for this service was an additional perk. I had an old clean out drain cap that NO OTHER plumbing company (4) could remove, Ryan just took that cap off in less than 5 minutes!!! OMG!!! I felt relieved that they knew exactly what they were doing. They were a GOD SEND. (thank you Jesus) I will continue to use 1st Call for all plumbing, Heating & Air needs. When SAWS alerted me to a suspected leak, I called around asking for estimates since I was 90% sure where the leak was. Not only was 1st Call Plumbing the most reasonable quote, they confirmed the could have it repaired before the end of the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even better, within 20 minutes of telling them I had picked them, Justin and Apprentice was knocking at my door.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Professional and very courteous, they quickly determined what I suspected... a leak in the service line under the Sidewalk. They hopped right to it and got it right as rain before the end of day. They explained the steps they took to prevent a repeat and their work was outstanding. We had something leaking behind our dishwasher before leaving for a week out of state. They showed up an fixed the leak in short order...a hose had popped off the dishwasher. The morning we were set to fly out, the leak resumed. Our kids kept an eye on the house so they were able to keep up with the dripping with towels. We called 1st call the day we got back and they were out the next day - A Sunday - And fixed the issue once and for all. Turns out it was self-inflicted. I'd changed out our garbage disposal and forgot to punch out the dishwasher punch-out. The pressure from the reverse osmosis system was causing the hose to pop and drip randomly. But after paying them $540 to switch out the turbo 200 capacitor after I was told by the technician Alec that this specific part was over $300 online, I did some research and realized they grossly overcharged me for the turbo 200 capacitor. I could have bought my own online from Amazon or from Home Depot for $70+ dollars. But I was charged $355...robbery in my opinion and shouldn't be legal or allowed...for a company to take advantage of people while their air conditioning is out is wrong in my opinion. That's why I gave them one star, for lying to me about the cost of the turbo capacitor. read more

The first time I called 1st Call, I discovered (the hard way) that a previous plumber had failed to properly connect the kitchen sink drain to the sink after removing a garbage disposal. I had just gotten out of the hospital, so I do not know when the drain pipes dropped off the sink. But they did, and I unknowingly ran water in the sink until I saw it coming down on the floor through the cabinet and freaked out. It was a Sunday and 1st Call got someone out right away. They reconnected the drains, I dried the cabinets out with some help from a friend, and thankfully this episode was minor. JJ Melchiori from 1st Call Plumbing, Heating & Air was the technician that was dispatched for my Irrigation double check valve replacement. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional during the entire process. After replacing the double check valve, he noticed that my water pressure was low and recommended that I replace the flow regulator. I accepted his recommendation and I'm so glad that I did because my water pressure increased from 40psi to 72psi. My shower in the master bathroom has a new attitude and I love it. JJ also checked my Rheem tankless water heater setup and noticed that the expansion tank was defective and not needed for my setup. He replaced the expansion tank with pressure valve instead and now my system is operating perfectly. Im extremely satisfied with my service today and would highly recommend JJ and 1st Call Plumbing, Heating & Air for all of your needs. They were fast, efficient, customer service oriented. Technician diagnosed problem without performing Test(s), but rather was able to provide estimates to replace parts and components to fix the problem. Subsequently, another company successfully diagnosed the problem and was able to get system operational for a minimum cost. In an effort to follow up with 1st Call's Svc Mgr (Joe), all he offered was an apology, nothing more. Admin/Communication: Called and got through to a person (Sonia) right away. She was very courteous and helpful. She booked an appointment same day. I then received a text later indicating they were ahead of schedule and could come early if I was available. Several texts and calls back and forth with Nick to confirm my schedule and my technicians were on the way. Communication was great. I appreciate that after other companies lack of communication. Service: Travis and Jake came out. Explained the fix, gave me the cost and they were on their way! I asked a lot of questions during the process. Some related to the fix and some unrelated. They helped me locate my ball valve, checked my water pressure and we chatted about meters and such. They were very informative, polite, knowledgeable and super quick! First rate service. We had a tankless water heater installed. They talked us into the brand they carry (Navien). This system requires the Navicir recirculator which is problematic. It continually has a Popping sound that is loud. Plus the hot water does not stay warm/hot at the far end of the house. We previously had a takigi system that worked great will recirculating pump. read more

Another casualty of the polar vortex event 2021! Great customer service and due to the high demand for plumbers, I was kept informed as to when to expect my turn. I was called to verify I still needed a plumber and told they could be at my place within 30 minutes. Anthony and Reno arrived under 30 minutes, friendly, and both wearing face masks following the COVID-19 precautions. I had two broken pipes and the repairs were promptly completed. Just had 1st Call Plumbing & Heating literally do a 20 minute job and they charged us $621or $31 dollars per minute!!!!! That was with their 5% discount. I called their office to complain or negotiate, got shuffled around and was told they would call their techs Nate and Jake with updated pricing which was no less than the 5% Nate and Jake were able to give up front. Placate the customer to get them off phone only to maintain pricing. Yesterday one of our Pex elbow connections sprung a leak and was dripping through our ceiling so my husband cut through the ceiling drywall to see where the leak was coming from, pulled insulation out, covered everything nearby and ran a spotlight the the site. All these plumbers had to do was bring their special crimping tools, attach a new joint, and throw on a foam noodle for good measure, and carry their own ladder in and out. At core only took MAYBE 20 minutes of work. $31 per minute or $621 later we decided never to call these crooks again and highly recommend no else does either. They lure you in with a free quote and quick service, not worth it unless you have money to burn! read more

I cannot thank the people at 1st Call Plumbing enough for fixing my leaking (from freeze) outside hose bib, from the phone scheduler, to Chris and his partner. It was of course on a weekend and I was first given an appointment the following day, but the scheduler said she would contact me if it could be sooner. Within 15 min. She called back to say they could be at my house within 15 min. Chris and his partner (sorry I cannot recall his name) were courteous and professional. I had water pipes that burst with the Texas Snow Storm, Uri. I called 1st Call Plumbing because they sent me a flyer, and represented themselves as a "Family Owned" business. When the technician came, my "Free Estimate" was a contract he presented at the curb. $175.00/hr. for leak detection with a 4 hour minimum ($700.00) and a repair cost of $595.00/hr for repairs with a 4 hour minimum ($2,380.00). Then there was the cost of the plumbing parts. This was a contract for over $3,000.00 and they had not even looked at my broken pipe! There was water leakage in my wall but the service technician said he would not be dealing with that. He would be doing a "deversion" to get my water back on. I would need to call someone else to deal with the dry wall and water leakage in the wall. I hadn't had water in my house for Two weeks, and he said "Other People Are Paying It " Wow! I declined to sign their contract, and called the owner, John. He claimed this was not how his company did business, but they sent these contracts to my email, and had a recording of my conversation when I called for a service request! I'm going to wait a few more weeks to get a reputable plumber who really cares about people and does not treat their customers like a business opportunity. read more

Once again, 1st Call came to my rescue in record time. With the freezing weather, a hose bib coming out of my house burst. My house looked like a fire hydrant. This is the second time I've used 1st Call and they were just as professional, efficient and responsive as they were the first time. Within a few hours they were able to send someone out to help. Josh and his apprentice Julian were friendly, knowledgeable and got the work done very quickly. Water was restored to my house and Josh gave me some pointers on how to beat deal with the cold weather. Julian even found one of my earrings that I had lost in the yard, in my frantic attempt to get my water shut off. The service was excellent and the price reasonable. Awesome customer service!  Dealing with a few things on a very busy Monday and turning Moen Chateau (Plastic) Knob Handle to stand-up shower produced no hot water for my spouse. No time to deal with issue, I called 1st Call Plumbing Heating and Air in the morning and the plumber team of two came later that afternoon, evaluated the situation and removed broken Plastic Knob Handle that had been previously installed with new Posi-Temp Valve Stem in July 2018, but a competitor installer would not install new Chrome Lever Handle as was requested by Homeowner and the type of Lever Handle that had been previously installed for 15 years in that shower.  Plastic Knob Handle lasted 3 years!  Homeowner installed new Moen Chrome Posi-Temp Shower Lever Handle at recommendation of 1st Call.
