Had them install a 9-panel system on my home. Communication was very good. When you call them, they will get back with you right away with an answer. Be prepared however, to be patient. A solar system requires a design process, manufacturing, permit approval and installer availability. From the time we started the purchase until the day my system was up and running, it took approximately 3 months. The total cost of a solar system may shock some, but the credits and tax deductions will chop the total price down significantly. 1st Light Energy did a good job explaining this and I thought the total cost was reasonable. Now that my system is installed, I can see my electric meter running backwards on a sunny day! I see that 1st Light Energy received a few bad reviews from previous customers. I think they've corrected these issues as we had a great experience. It's a fairly big home improvement project and there are bound to be a few glitches along the way. Expect this and allow the company to address any problems. They were very responsive and helpful whenever I called or emailed them. read more

My experience with 1st Light Energy has been exceptional. When they first showed up at my door they spoke with my husband and we had some scheduling conflicts that delayed the intial interview several times. Our salesman was Nate and he was very patient and when we finally met for our first meeting I was very impressed by the amount of information that he had about his company and about my energy use. He was excellent in breaking down the process in a way that both my husband and I understood. I would have never thought that I could have solar panels on my home. Not only do we have the solar panels we have seen instant savings in our electric bill. The first month was an $80 difference compared to the same month the year before. Each month that I get my bill from PG&E I compare it to that month in the previous year and each time I see how much $$ we are saving. My family is very thankful to 1st Light. My account manager was Dominic Mason and he kept us up to date every step of the way. I still contact Dominic and refer friends and family who ask us how our solar is working out for us. We tell everyone that the experience has been a great one and we love the fact that we are saving money each month on our electric bill. In general, they put a good product on my roof, but the process of getting it there was painful. I, of course, was very anxious to get the system installed and start saving money. The process of getting my plans approved took weeks, and required several modifications to meet the planning dept requirements. Since they have installed many systems (tho all different), I thought the process took much longer than it should have taken. In addition, when the city inspector came onsite, he required them to make additional changes and redo some things. (To be fair, I also thought the city inspector was "not the most professional" and seemed to be always having a bad day.) In their own project planning, they assume that things will go as planned, so when they don't, their workers have already moved on to the next job and can't quickly return to make the required changes. They did try to juggle things, but my project was again delayed by a few weeks because of this. The various people I talked to in the company were nice and wanted to be helpful, but the company seemed very disorganized. If I talked to my main contact (which changed from time to time) about something, it didn't always get passed on to the person who was supposed to take care of it. For example, we discussed the various rate schedules PGE offered, and I wanted to be on the E6, not the standard E1, since that would be to my advantage. Whoever submitted the paperwork to PGE didn't get told? and I was placed on the E1. Many months later, I noticed this error and worked with PGE (3 or 4 calls) and they kindly made the change retroactive to the solar start date. That saved me a few hundred dollars. So, in summary, they did put up a good product and after a year it seems like it was installed well. It did, however, take a long time and a lot of my time during and afterwards to make sure things got done correctly. read more

This was the worst investment I've EVER MADE. I've been lied to since day 1. My unit got installed the first week of April and they promised me it would be on and working in 3 weeks. It took them 3 1/2 months for my unit to be working. I was promised to save 105% on my electricity bill and I have yet to see any savings after 8months. 1st Light Energy came by our house and pitched us on solar. After shopping around I felt like they were the most honest and straightforward of the companies I spoke with. So I showed them the lowest offer I had received and they price matched for me. They worked to assure I got the City of Lodi solar rebate. They communicated very well throughout the process. I've had my system for 7 months and am very happy thus far. I think I'll end up with a net zero solar bill for the year. I also like the wireless monitoring app they provided. They can't tell you how much you produce and if your box isn't working correctly their response is "as long as it says 21/21 it's working". Really? There company sucks, I've been dealing with roof leaks for since we notice my ceiling in my bedroom with water spots which was in April 2018 you call Nicole or mike and they give you the run around very unprofessional . Guy did come out in April only to put some kind of sealer on shingles only a temporary fixes.woke up on 5/16/2018 water pouring from ceiling in bedroom,called about it on to get well are tech is out of state I don't know what to tell you,so the next two days it's going to rain and you don't know what or tell me,called April in Cali ,she did call me back which I was surprised ask me to send pictures of the leak,the Nicole call me to tell me they got a roofer to come look at the problem,roofer calls me to tell me he can't come till next week so I'm the mean time it's going to rain the next two days which means more damage to the inside of my home ,they can't even come put a fucking trap over the problem ,I guess there waiting for my ceiling to fall on us while we are sleeping ,very unprofessional, I hate this company I am very sorry that I ever went with this company,very sorry. read more

I was promised a lot by the sales person in March. I'm here in June writing this review awaiting my panels to be installed on Friday. The process has been slow. I ended up having to call my utility to ask what was going on because the company wasn't responsive. From my experience I believe it's fair to trust the other low reviews about this company. I really didn't shop around when looking to install solar and I'm regretting my decision to go with 1st Light Energy. Update: It's July and I'm still waiting for them to finish what they started. Also I referred a customer to them and they can't pay me the referral payment because of complications with their accounting. I wouldn't trust anything any representative from this company tells you. I am not sure why the reviews here have so many ups and downs because we have been working with this company for over six years now, starting with our home install, to occasional repairs due to squirrel and other damage. After accounting for government paperwork, inspections and municipal regulations, i have to say that this company has been absolutely outstanding, starting with Justin, one of the owners with whom we worked when they were small and our $50,000 contract was big, to many years later, when Gus Lackey and Fabian Wika were so diligent and helpful in the freezing NJ snow and cold, when our repair request was not worth more than a couple of hundred dollars. To those who have complained: please ask yourselves if the problems mentioned were within the company's control or not. Worst Customer Service Ever. My experience with them was for a warranty service issue as they are a Fronius Certified Warranty Company. 1. They never answer their phone: You will listen to a voicemail recording saying to leave a message and they will return it in 24-48 hours. They never returned my calls. 2. Finally connected on email and set up a service call and cleaning for June 25, 2018. After taking the time off of work, they were a no show. Finally got through to their Service Coordinator who told me they had a computer glitch. Set up another service call for July 17th. Showed up for this one, but wasn't aware they were supposed to clean my panels until I showed them the email confirming that service. To his credit they did clean the panels, and evaluated the faulty inverter. After cleaning my panels, the other inverter failed. They contacted Fronius and they told him it wasn't his fault. The service guy said he would take his inverter assessment back to the manager, and then call with an estimate for repairs, and warranty credit. It's been SIX weeks, and with multiple phone calls and emails not returned, I give up. These guys could take Customer Service classes from the local DMV office and it would be an improvement. They may be attentive to you when they are selling a new install, but spend your money on a company that will back up their products. read more

We had a great experience and are very happy with how everything turned out. There was a problem with the city inspector showing up early before the installation was finished. He said they would have to reschedule the inspection for the following week and we wouldn't be able to turn our system on. They jumped on the issue quickly and the inspector was out later that same day. Highly recommend. read more

I just had First Light Energy install my solar system. I would like to start off with sometimes solar can take up to a month with permits and the utility company. I sell Heating and Air Conditioning along with solar at a different company. I chose to us a different company for solar, because I wanted to help reinvest into the economy. I received and fair price from the company Steve Bell the Energy Specialist was out at my home he didn't push me into a lease or to buy it out right he showed me all my options and the deal went from there. The install crew was mind blowing they installed in a overwhelming timely manner after permit approval, hats off to the installers wish I could have met with them but I had to work,. The initial process went well, except that I never received a written quote that included how much electricity I should expect to generate. The installation and quality of the panels appear to be good, except now a few years later I keep finding plastic zip ties on the ground. I think they used them to secure the wiring to the racking and now they're starting to deteriorate and fall off. My biggest complaint is that my online monitoring hasn't worked for about a year. 1st Light claims the module is currently unavailable and they are waiting for more. I've been patiently waiting, but now we are selling our home and need it fixed. I've tried emailing, no reply. Calling, I just get a voicemail and never a call back. I guess I need to go camp out at their office to get any service. I'm happy with the product, I just wish they had SOME customer service once they are done selling you their product. read more

Like one of the other reviewers, I did a considerable amount of research about solar installation companies in the area. I found 1st Light Energy to have very competitive pricing and packages available. The salesman (Cade Spackman) was very specific in explaining our options to purchase or lease the system and the financing process as well. Now that my system is up and running, I would also add that they have a good quality product and a very efficient installation team. They assigned an Account Manager to my project (Dominic Mason) and he did a very good job at updating me as each milestone was completed. Everything that they promised has come to fruition thus far and I'm very pleased and satisfied with the project. If you're considering a solar installation, you can't go wrong with 1st Light Energy. I would caution you, however, to be aware of the time that it takes from signing the contract to job completion. The permitting process (at least in Turlock) is a very lengthy one. All of the wait time that we experienced was due to waiting for permits and inspections, which is not the fault of 1st Light Energy. read more

They leave out important information, they had to come out at least two extra times due to installation being incorrect or they just chose to be lazy and not complete it the first time around hoping we wouldn't notice. Their staff miss several appointments, no call/no show, while we wait around. They have terrible customer service and don't seem to know how to answer questions when you ask something about how your system works. If I could go back, I would go with a different company. Before we signed the contract with 1st Light Energy, we were given several verbal promises by their representative that were not subsequently written into the contract. But, it is because of the verbal promises that we agreed to sign. For instance, we were reassured several times verbally and in an email, that we would receive a Federal rebate of $11,203,05. We were reluctant but because of the strong assurance, we agreed to take out a loan in the amount we would be refunded. This loan had an interest rate of almost $18% which we would not have to pay if we paid off the loan within 18 months. It seemed like a no-brainer. Receive the rebate, pay off the loan. However, when we got the Federal rebate, it was less than $4,000.00. In order to not have to pay the exorbitant interest, we had to take out $7,000.00 from our retirement to pay off the loan on time. When we called 1st Light regarding this inconsistency, the said "We didn't know what your tax appetite was." What does that even mean? Before we signed the contract with 1st Light Energy, we asked if the solar panels would attract pigeons. We were assured that they would not. However, before long many pigeons were roosting under the solar panels and their feces collected on the roof and then rolled off onto the sidewalks on either side of our house. While doing the yard work, I used the blower to blow off grass clippings and pigeon poop and during this process, I inhaled dust from the dried pigeon poop and contracted Salmonella poisoning and almost died. By the grace of God, I didn't, however it took at good 2 months to recover. Had we been told that pigeons would be a problem, we would have chosen to have guards installed around the panels. Subsequently,1st Light Energy came out, at our request, and power washed our roof and panels and installed guards around the panels. We were not charged for this service. However, while power washing off the roof, some of the pigeon poop was washed into our neighbors yard. 1st Light Energy would not help pay for the clean up of our yard or our neighbors. They said that the contamination of our neighbors yard "collateral damage." We paid about $700.00 for the clean up of both yards. We had considered taking 1st Light Energy to small claims court, however there is a paragraph in their contract that states that any disputes must go to an arbitrator. We learned that an arbitrator may cost $200-$300/hour. We cannot afford to spend any more money. There is also a section in the contract that states that: "This Agreement expressly supersedes all prior written or verbal representations or agreements made by 1st Light Energy Inc., its agents, representatives or employees, or anyone else. Except as set forth in this Agreement, the Customer agrees there are other oral or written representations of inducements, expressed or implied, any way conditioning this Agreement and the Customer expressly disclaims their existence." So it appears that their agents, representatives or employees can lie all they want to persuade you to sign the contract. We were lied to and suffered greatly because of it. We accept that we did not read the contract closely enough, nor did we understand the contract enough and we put too much trust in the integrity of their representatives. Anyone thinking of purchasing solar panels from 1st Light Energy needs to be aware that what you are promised by their representatives is most likely a lie and before you sign anything, make sure that what you were promised is in the contract. The integrity of this company is sadly lacking. read more

Worst decision I ever made. This company is totally incompetent and unprofessional. It took forever to get my panels installed. The installers failed inspection and never followed up. I had to call 1st light energy and literally harass them because them to get my panels working since no one answered my emails and answered my calls. I made the huge mistake of referring 2 of my friends and they both have similar complaints. I started the process 8 months ago and still havent received the referral money they promised. The sales person does a great job selling the service but dont believe anything he says. Its all lies. No one educated me on how to sell my SREC''s. April Baptista needs to be fired.
