Definitely a money grab place , they will at first seem like they care but completely switch up when you decline their estimates, (ours was $1,400) and offer no help or advice after.You have to ask for it . They try scaring you into taking these tests and X-rays, Thankfully I asked the right questions to get the dr to admit that they are more expensive, after declining the estimate- the discharge paperwork said that they suspect it was only an upset stomach. Truly can't say enough bad things about this place. I'll keep it short. The trauma they put my cat through caused him permanent damage to his vocal cords (attempted failed sedation, x rays and blood work). I asked foe mason to wait with me and they never brought him to me. He sat in the back terrified for nearly 8 hours. When I wrote a letter to the staff asking for them to make it right after my regular vet confirmed permeant damage and at the absolute least refund me, it went unanswered, zero acknowledgment. The staff but incredibly rude to the point I left in tears, after a long stressful scary night in the ER with my cat. They were insensitive and cold. The entire trip ended up being over looked cat acne, so I spent $1000 for them to prescribe ointment and traumatize my cat. My mama heart hurts that I put my cat through this. Had I known anything at all that was going on or the stress he was under I would have made different decisions that day. Please spare your pet and take them to any other ER vet. read more

This facility was amazing. They were at capacity but instead of turning us away like the 1st facility they agreed to triage my dog to be safe. They discovered quickly she was not doing well and they started treating her immediately. They communicated everything with me including cost. Emergency care is never cheap but you cannot put a price on saving your pet. The place is spotless. The staff is so kind and helpful. Dr Lunt was exceptional treating my pet. Top shelf experience with this vet (Feb 2020). First of all, every room at this location is immaculately clean. Even better, the folks who work there, from front desk, to lab techs, are gentle and kind. Plus lots of small things that mesh together to give you a wonderful overall experience. For example, there was very little waiting, and when I did have to wait, they made me feel pampered and cared for by bringing bottled water (nice touch). Other nice touches: exam room was outfitted with a pretty little aqua glass vessel sink, and an apple computer on which they played soothing music. Just many small touches of class, but of course the most important part is they were good to my little baby. read more

This place was ABSOLUTELLY horrible!!!! They miss-diagnosed my dog with uterus infection. Told me that my dog needed a surgery. Opened her up only to find out that she does not have a uterus infection, however they still cut it out WITHOUT ASKING ME! After the surgery my dog developed complications: pneumonia! Which they did not diagnose. I had to question the doctor why my dog's breathing was so hard. He said oh yeah, by the way I just did an ultrasound and she has pneumonia. For this they wanted to charge me over 5,000. They NEVER diagnosed my dog correctly. Had to take my dog to WetMed and she was diagnosed with PANCREATITIS. This experience with 1st Pet was a complete NIGTMARE. When we asked them to give us a refund, the clinic director refuse. Said he was going to give a discount...... ????!!! I had never taken my dog to the vet (she was a pandemic pet) but I suspected she had an ear infection. 1st pet got me an appointment the same day (unlike another vet I'd called whose earliest appointment was the following month). I was taken to a room as soon as I arrived and only had to wait a few minutes for a tech then the vet to arrive. My fur baby was given a thorough exam and a few other issues were discovered aside from the ear infection. I really liked how the vet explained my options for the subsequent treatments and there was no pressure to commit to the high dollar treatment then and there. I was provided a written discharge/care instructions sheet, as well as an estimate for the subsequent treatment. This really allowed me time to digest the sticker shock and prepare the next phase of her care. They made me a return customer for sure. read more

This is one of the best vets I have ever been to. I have a feral cat, Morticia, that lives inside my house (long story) but she was starting to exhibit mouth discomfort. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get her care and, originally, took her to Dr. Kelly's mobile vet for a dental. That was a less than stellar experience and she started showing the same symptoms less than 6 months later! This vet was recommended to me for "spicy" kitties so I brought her in a trap to her appointment. It is a certified fear-free facility and they were so kind and patient with her. They were able to perform an entire exam, including her mouth, without any sedation! It turns out, she had stomatitis and needed a full mouth extraction. It was quite a wait until the next available appointment so I was given pain meds to help her through. Then I got a call a couple days later that there was a cancelation the next week and they already booked me for the appointment if I wanted it (of course I did!). Her FME was flawless and the staff took such good care of her. I was just so happy I found somewhere that was willing to provide care that was also patient and just good. I just had to take Morticia's daughter in for a FME (darn genetics) as well and she is also a little spicy, just not as bad as her mama. They, again, were just awesome with her and took good care of her. It's nice to not have to stress about finding somewhere that will be patient and kind with cats that aren't necessarily the best patients and just want to dope them up or sedate them to get through the appointment. read more

Last weekend my dog had a circular bone that got stuck around his lower jaw. 1st Pet got him in immediately, assessed the situation and gave me a recommendation to sedate him, then saw the bone off. I got a call about 20 minutes later that he had worked the bone off himself before they sedated him, there was no tooth damage or bleeding so I could come pick him up. The staff was so kind and concerned, and they did not charge me since they didn't have to proceed. I fully expected to pay something since they did check him in and look him over, but it was free. My sweet girl had advanced diabetes and got really sick all of a sudden so i brought her in and they took us right back and did everything they could to ease her anxiety. I called all of the vets close to me (even ER vets) to see if they could see my puppy in the next couples days, as it seemed she had an intestinal blockage. 1st Pet Vet was the only place that acted like they cared & also thought it was worth a visit & told me to come on in. I got right in to a triage room & all the techs were so nice! They got busy after they took her to wait for an x-ray, so it was about 40min before they came in to tell me the cost & where she was in line. About an hour later, I got a call from the Dr who explained all my options(including coming to get her & finding a neighborhood vet who could do surgery cheaper!). She was so patient with me, explained everything & answered all my questions. She agreed it was worth a shot to try to induce vomiting & go from there. She called another hour later to let me know my puppy emptied her stomach & the 2nd x-ray looked good. Overall, it took a long time & I spent $800...but that's about what I expected. What I didn't expect was the kindness & care everyone showed me & my sweet pup! When I picked her up, the tech went over all the instructions & made sure to take the time to answer my questions & make sure I understood next steps! I highly recommend them! And yes, they make you at least pay the $175 exam fee prior to leaving your pet there. But they can't do what they do for free! And there are a couple of options for financing if you need it. read more

In March of this year, two do my dogs got in a scuffle over some kibble. My 17-year-old Chow Chow mix needed some stitches on her head. I went in crying, feeling horrible and guilty that my baby girl got hurt under my care, and I was going over all that I had done wrong in that moment. The kind tech proceeded to tell me that it wasn't my fault, that dogs are dogs and sometimes stuff just happens, and praised me for taking her in right away. She showed a lot of interest in my pup and was very sweet with the both of us. The waiting time was a quite a bit longer than I expected, but this is an emergency hospital. They take in animals in dire need of emergency care all day and all night. I'm grateful that I was even able to get my dog the care she needed on a Saturday. They were SO NICE TO ME. The vet, the techs and the CSRs were all so incredibly kind and empathetic. My dogs are everything to me and I could absolutely feel in my heart that they knew that. When I finally went to pick her up, I was expecting to pay a LOT more. I looked at my estimate, and I said "that's it????! That's all?!" Medications, e-collar, staples... plus she was there ALL day, and I ended up paying a mere fraction of what I was expecting to. I wish I could give them 6 stars. Truly. This review is about a particular employee at the 7th Ave and Union Hills location based on a conversation. Tonight I called to get a refill for sedation medication for our dog that had to have surgery two different times for the same area. The sedation meds needed for healing and to prevent another reinjury was requested tonight when I called and spoke to Allie. Allie insisted they won't do any refills unless the dog had been seen by their regular clinic staff. I explained that due to the lack of sedation the dog they saw got into another fight with her sister and I got bit and have a broken hand, on morphine and waiting for hand surgery. I asked to talk with a manager or doctor. She said there was no manager and its policy refill. I told her I needed to talk to someone incharge like the doctor and explain the situation and she refused. I told her she wasn't helping me or facilitating care for my dog and I shouldn't have to requested help and she should be trying to come up with ideas of how to prevent my dog from injurying herself and others and she didn't have the authority to prevent me from requesting that from a higher up representative. Allie decided that hanging up on me was the professional and appropriate thing to do eventhough ww have spent $1400 on two visits with surgery and my hand getting bit and bone broke because of the sedation issue. I had to put 1 Star. I would not recommend this place to anyone.. After today's visit, it is obvious all they care about is making the most $ possible. I called at 730 am and spoke to a Lisa who took my information to get me in the system to get in and out faster. We arrived at 910 and got checked in. We were instantly put in a room, and triage began. We then spent over 2 hours waiting to get our dog seen by the Dr. When we checked in at 910 am and were told, 4 people were in front of us. After sitting in the exam room for 1.5 hrs, we were told we were next to be seen by Analisa, and that another doctor just clocked in so we would be out shortly. Another 45 minutes went by, so I went and asked when we would be seen. I was then told by Analisa that she didn't know because there were still more people in front of us. So we sat in a room with our dog for almost 2.5 hrs waiting to be seen while 8-10 other people walked in and were seen per Analisa while we waited. Our emergency fee of $200 is the same fee as every other emergency seen. The only difference between us and the other dogs was they could mKe more $ of the other ones, so we had to wait till it was convenient for them to see us. I even asked the little brunette doctor that came out if it was normal procedure for what happened to us, and she said absolutely not. So that proved to me they don't care about your animal, only the $ they make off them. So if you love your pet, avoid this place. Randy, I appreciate your response. However, my dogs ear was full puss and bleeding from a severe infection. It's not a typical ear infection. He scratched the inside, and the sore was infected. Then, somehow, 8 more animals were seen before us. 8 more dogs came in after me and left without my dog being seen. As the manager of this facility, when do you consider back wait too long. Can someone really sit there forever if other pets come in that are deemed more urgent by your staff. We saw they 3 tiers of urgency flyer in the room. Weird how tier one servies cost more than 2 and 3 and tier 2 is more than 3. How can you say your not profit driven when your own flyer shows it. Patient care should be equal across the board first come first served except life saving visits. That is, If patient care is what you cared about and not money.... The first thing the Vet who saw him right after we left your facility was scared the infection got in his blood. Something you can't see happening. For all we know my dog could have been septic. Which is pretty serious,would you not agree . Sepsis kills. Again you chose the higher paying tiers over my dog.. $$$$$$$ Maybe offer us low tier turds an option to pay to speed up the process.. read more

This place was super helpful when my cat decided to give birth on Easter. With it being late and during a pandemic this was the only place that was open to call. Unfortunately she gave birth to a premature stillborn...6 days later she had 4 more babies (only 2 survived) and I called this Vet twice with questions. The techs answered every question I asked and recommended what to do if mama wasn't producing milk. Kind. Caring. Helpful. These three adjectives describe my small interactions with the staff at 1st Pet. Tonight - a Saturday night - we witnessed a dog hit by a car and left by the side of the road. After a frantic call to our regular vet's cell phone, we took the puppers to 1st Pet. Even though he wasn't our dog and he was, sadly, DOA, the staff scrambled folks out front to confirm and then promised to scan for a microchip and notify the family (the dog had a collar but no visible tags). My wife and I brought our senior dog into 1st Pet yesterday, and we got the dreaded news that it was time to say goodbye. While this was my wife's first experience saying goodbye to a fur-family member, I have been fortunate to be with each of the dogs I've had throughout my life at their ends. And I am happy to say that yesterday was different than ever before. I am so indescribably indebted to Dr. Sullivan and all the teammates at 1st Pet for their warmth, kindness, and for how delicate they were with our four-legged family member, and also my wife and I, each step of the way. We were given our own private sitting room where we got to bring in our dog's blankets from home, so we could have one last great snuggle session. We were told to take as much time as we would like, and technicians would check on us occasionally. When it was time, we did not have to move to a cold room smelling of chemicals or put our beloved friend on an exam table. Instead, Dr. Sullivan got down on the blankets with us, spent time with us, and we were able to say goodbye more comfortably than I have ever been able to before. Such wonderful customer service. Today I went into this location for emergency care for my cat, brisket. Any sort of medical scene really freaks me out, and today that changed. Every worker there was very caring and patient, despite me being in tears and trying to work through the emotions. Even workers not involved with care for my cat were welcoming with warm smiles the moment I walked through the door. (There was a blonde lady with long lashes that talked to me very calmly and seemed very patient with me while I was trying to keep calm. I wish I could remember her name so I could thank her directly in this review.) Communication was very clear and professional, and all of my questions were answered in such a way that made it easy for me to understand. Even though they were busy, somebody was always available to keep me updated. Even while I was sitting anxiously at home, a worker forwarded me images of my baby girl to show me she was doing okay. The doctor on the phone was very kind and patient with me. She explained all of my available options, and what each one would be good for and helped me decide what was the best option for my girl. Very nice staff! Wait was 3 hrs as my dog was not a emergency. She was limping and had a minor infection on her paw. My dog can be nervous around new people as we just rescued her but she loved the staff there. They were very informative and gave the care she needed. It was $200 for the exam since we went to the emergency. They cleaned her paw very thoroughly, gave us some meds, and we walked out paying $251 which I honestly expected to pay more. Since the wait was long they did offer to watch her if I needed to be somewhere. Don't know why they were rated 3.5 stars because I believe they are amazing! This past May my old English bulldog girl was having a medical emergency. Our usual vet was not taking ER cases, recommended this place. Not to mention the virus going on made choices even more limited Anyways, called ahead and they were able to accommodate us. I feel sorry for them having to do this with all the restrictions and waiting in your car business. It really is very stressful to deal with, with all that on top of what is happening with your pet. But, they sure did the best they could considering. Having called ahead and knowing this was possibly an end of life call, they were quick to get us in a room and out of the car. Don't be sad to read this... my rescue gal lived a good life with us in her forever home. Her time had come, she was struggling to breath with larynx paralysis, her vitals were dropping. The sad decision had to be made to get her out of pain. We were thankful someone was open to help. The vet, I forget her name, was very kind and sweet. A very calming demeanor. And I can attest that all she diagnosed and shared during our high stress was accurate when we got to digest the info later. There was no hard push for anything. Just straight forward, here is the problem, here is the quality of life info and here is the costly surgery that could be done and what quality of life would be after for that, etc. I found her to be very honest. Of course we opted for letting our Panda girl go. Quality of life after this surgery did not sound good at all. In all ways they were very professional. They let us lay right on the floor and hug her while she passed. The Doctor was kind enough to get right on the floor with us to do it. That really meant a lot. We really felt our dog was cuddled through the whole process and as at ease as she could be surrounded by her humans. One small issue that stressed me out.... once the decision was made to euthanize, the wait time was longer than I expected. Having done this with a previous dog, they say you shouldn't get all emotional and stress the dog out at that time... I was having a hard time keeping it together for the 20 or so minutes it took to get the dog hooked to Iv and then the actual event. A little more speed for that part could have helped. Not forgetting we were a mess all the way up to getting there too. The timeframe to hold tears was hard! Now the sweet plus is that after our sweet doggie had gone, then we really let loose crying and falling apart as a family. They kindly left us in the room with her for as long as we needed to compose ourselves and leave her behind. That was much appreciated. And just plain kind. Thank you for that. Ok. So now that I am wiping my face thinking of it all... pricing. I found the pricing to be fair for all services rendered. ER vet service is never cheap. The prices did not seem unfair or over inflated. Of course, they added up and the bill was "high", I have no complaints about that. Sad that not everyone may be able to afford the services. We opted to cremate her and have her remains returned. Honestly I thought this was a little steep at first. But when her remains arrived I was pleased to see she came in the utmost professional way in a gorgeous box ready for a name placard or to be buried. Attaching a picture to show how beautiful that was and the price you are paying is beyond fair. The note from the crematory is even touching. Now! Last.... in all that stress of decision making the lady offered a clay paw print service. Highly recommend! The price super fair for what you get as a tangible memory! I am so glad I did that. Thinking it was $30 for that option. As well as hoping that service doesn't get an over inflated price ever. Thank you for helping us when we needed it bad. read more

The technicians were informative, courteous, helpful with efficiency in critical situations. You wouldn't expect that after enduring the procedures of arising difficulties when my four legged baby was struggling to successfully birth her liter naturally but having a confident, experienced, surgeon the specializes in emergency medicine such as Dr. Lunt. We have fetch insurance and let's just say they didn't make it easy to submit the claim for her emergency procedure. Dr. Lunt went above, beyond, completely out of any necessity of a veterinarian. After providing several different supporting documents on top of a letter provided and typed by Dr.Lunt himself ensuring that the policy covered what was inclusive to the declaration of our policy. Our Lab Spaniel mix was having issues walking so we took her in to 1st Pet because her regular vet was not available. When we arrived, they immediately quoted a pain injection looking for authorization even though there was no clear sign our dog was in pain. After the initial exam (which was not done in our presence), they brought our dog into the exam room where we had to wait to speak to the doctor. The doctor came in and stood across the room not showing any compassion for us as owners or our dog. She started spouting off treatments and diagnostics with exorbitant costs and was focused on us giving the dog a pain killer shot. I asked about an anti-inflammatory instead and the doctor became standoffish and did not answer the question until I pressed multiple times. I truly believe that this practice cares nothing for animals and is all about $$$. We decided to pay their exam fee and just left with our dog. Turned out all she needed was the anti-inflammatory and she was almost back to normal. If we had gone down the path that the doctor was taking us, we would have given our dog morphine and would likely have not treated the root problem and even worse may have errantly put our dog down. We are now following up with our vet and our dog is getting the treatment and compassion she deserves. Unless you are just taking your animal with a clear need to be put down, I recommend staying far away from this Vet. read more

Our Experience At first pet has overall been a Disappointment and heart ache, to say the least. Our awful experience all started when Our seven month old puppy broke his leg and had surgery here at first pet about a month a two weeks ago. We believed his surgery went fine. Our puppy was happy and seemed almost back to normal. With confidence We scheduled our 7-to-10 day staple removal. Seven days later we attend our staple removal and they tell us, "it's to early come back in 3 days." So we do as we're told and schedule there days from this visit. (During this visit they try charging us 80 dollars for a new bandage, they took off..Obviously just tell people to wait the full ten day's) irritated we move our schedules around once again and schedule three days from this visit. We are Now at our 10 day post surgery visit for staple removal. When we attend this visit after waiting 45minutes to an hour, they remove his bandage and the doctor comes back and tell us "It's way to early to remove staples. A surgery like this needs at least 2weeks before staples are removed. While the doctor is in with us he also expresses that we shouldn't have even been scheduled until two week from the surgery date"... during this visit we are just dumbfounded. First pet wasting our time now TWICE. During this visit first pet also trys charging us again 80 dollars for a new bandage!!!, while meanwhile telling us there was NO REASON for this visit or the last visit scheduled. Seriously?! What a freaking joke!...Now we are at TWO, POINTLESS, time consuming visits because of their incompetence. While very upset, we arrange our schedules once again for the THRID time for first pet (in faith we aren't been lied to again.) We attend our two week visit and staples are removed, Finally! Third time is the charm at first pet apparently.... Now a month and almost two weeks later the 5,000 dollar plate breaks in my puppies leg...My puppy is Pomeranian, poodle, Chihuahua mix, he weighs 8 pounds and the surgical plate somehow breaks?? The surgical plate broke where it was screwed into my dogs bone. From an outsider looking in, to me it seems like they screwed that area too hard and the plate was weak there, causing the plate to break. (These 5000 dollar plates are meant to last a dogs life time!!! I repeat a dogs lifetime!!!) Now Because of the plate breaking, we are now looking at amputation as the ONLY option. Amputation at first pet for a small dog is quoted at 3,400-to-3,900 dollars. With all the visits together we have already spent around 7,000 dollars at first pet for nothing! We will not give this place a penny more. Upset doesn't even describe how I feel about this place. No one at this office can even tell me what the plate is made out of, along with them being unable to send xrays to my email. This place has been a disappointment and a waste of time and money. it takes a long time to get answers and to be seen at first pet, along with most importantly tech's and doctors not knowing what they're doing...We will not be doing Amputation at first pet, nor will we be back here ever again. I suggest going to VetMed on carefree another 24 hour emergency pet hospital before ever going here. Waste of time and lots money. This place obviously only cares about the dollar amount and not about their Patients. UPDATE: the surgical plate is made out of titanium!!! TITANIUM !!! Only the strongest metal earth has to offer!! The plate NEVER, NEVER should of broke. First pet needs to make this right. I'm seeing a surgery specialist Friday and will update then. read more

A cat in one of the colonies that I help manage has been injured and we were finally able to trap him. We brought him here for an after hours assessment. Dr. Schacher was amazing. He was very compassionate and caring and very quick with updates on Simon's status. The level of compassion and respect that he showed for Simon was very much appreciated in this difficult time. Simon was unfortunately too badly injured to be saved. Dr. Schacher allowed us to be with Simon while he was put to sleep and he was visibly as upset as we were about the loss of a life. This was a weird and difficult time for us but I am very thankful for all of the staff that help, took care of Simon, treated him so well, and helped him transition quickly and easily. read more

Unfort our cat Bruce didn't make it, as he got very sick in short amount of time and too far gone. However, the staff was great. They encouraged me to bring him in right away and I could tell they took good care of him while I was gone (not allowed to stay due to COVID)-they had him wrapped in a little blanket and gave him necessary fluids. Dr. Kahn was honest, patient, and empathetic to the passing of our fur baby. She talked to us over the phone for awhile discussing our options and test results. When we decided to euthanize she explained everything to us and gave some comfort. I wish that wasn't the outcome, but I'm glad she was the dr. The only reason not 5 stars is the pricing seems a bit steep, but its obvi for emergencies so ur paying for the convenience and to be seen right away. In the future I would still go here but only for emergencies like this one. read more

Unfortunately, we took our dog here after he jumped from three flights from our apartment building on Saturday morning. We took him as he started limping on his back right paw. He was not showing any signs of pain but we figured he has to be from that height. When we first got there of course there is an admission fee just to be seen of $250. They then recommended pain injectables which Ofcourse we agree to for an additional amount of 60$ then they recommend X-rays, makes sense need to see if any bones are broken or any internal bleeding. Again, I agree to which is $495 for the X-rays. So we are paying all of this before they start any procedures or tests. They says it will be a 6-8 hour wait. No problem, we will come back. Then later around 9pm after the X-rays came back they say his hip is dislocated and will need an closed hip reduction with anesthesia. Okay makes sense, they quoted it to be $1750-$2200. I told them that's fine but I would haven't until the next day (Sunday) morning if that's okay with then doing the procedure and then I'll give the money prior to picking him up. They said that would not be an option and that I needed to come get him right now. I was shocked. I asked them if I can come back the next day and it would be quoted the same. They said yes. Came back the next day Sunday and they stated that he now needs surgery since it's been past 24 hours and that needs to be scheduled elsewhere with a PCP if I wanted it cheaper. I was shocked because I was prepared to pay them to do the hip reduction and now they don't want to do it. They quoted for the surgery, just to start it would be $4,000+ upfront. I will not be returning nor recommending this place. Felt like all their cared about was the money and getting paid. Btw, my husband over heard another couple coming in to make a payment towards their payments and we had to pay in full before they could even start. That is ridiculous. read more
