They barely have any menu and they don't have French fries. I guarantee you that no one would choose chips if they could get french fries when they're going to a restaurant. Potato chips are what you get when you're at home, not going to a freaking restaurant! The quality of their mates are fine. Just nothing special. The first thing that I noticed when I first walked into this restaurant was that it had tons of flies which is more than a little off putting. I ordered a BBQ sampler that came with; tri-tip, country pork, and chicken. The tri-tip was delicious, as was the pork, but the chicken was over cooked and tasted like rancid (old) oil. I looked up BBQ when I arrived in Red Bluff and thought I would give it a try. I got there 1/2 hour before closing and, as it turns out, their last day at that location. I ordered the sampler meal which came with chicken, brisket and a pork something as well as a huge container of beans and another of cole slaw. The brisket had good flavor, but was dry. The chicken had no discernible smoke and was very dry. The pork thing was tasty but extremely fatty. Beans - meh, coleslaw - what you would by in a grocery store. So not hugely impressed, but I'll give em another try at their new location. read more

This is the Jerky Review Update! I bought some jerky on April 7, 2023. It was as good as it was 12 years ago. A great balance of pepper, salt, and garlic. The strips just thick enough and moist enough to give a good chewing texture. It is the best, simple jerky I've ever had! You need to stop in and buy some for you and all your kids! I really wanted it to be good, it just wasn't. My wife ordered tri tip, it was over done an dry. My son had a sandwich which he liked okay. I ordered pork ribs. I was really looking forward too it. the lady at the counter went to slice the ribs but they didn't slice, she ended up pushing the meat off the bone, it was dry, no moisture at all. I don't think you could have a worst looking rib box, it looked like dry pulled pork with a pile of rib bones mixed in with them. Presentation was as bad as it could be an the ribs were not far behind. Worst ribs i've been served or purchased. Maybe it was a bad day we all have them, but the lady behind the counter had to know the product she sold me was not up to par.....Disappointing as I pass through often an had hoped to find one of those special local bbq joints. I hired them to cater my husbands " Celebration of Life". It was at a local park and 150 people. They arrived 40 minutes late, the Tri-Tip was so tough you couldn't chew it. Some pieces were sliced thin and some were just huge chunks of meat. They brought the beans in a "Home Depot" bucket which is certainly not " food grade" I had ask for salad plates and there were none. The thing that bothered me the most was everything was dirty. The insulated box that the meat was in was filthy on the outside and inside. I think the Health Department needs to give them a visit! This event was so important to me and my kids and we were so disappointed! Since then I have spoken to a few other people and they had similar experience's. read more

I'm not sure I would call this a BBQ, rather a grill BQ. Smoked meats are not usually soaked in some sort of jus. Maybe BBQ sauce but to certainly not to hide the smoked meat flavor. The Tri-Tip did not have a smoke ring rather it was soaked is some sort of brown sauce dying the meat and taking away from its flavor; tasted like beef broth. The chicken was good and was similar to tender oven roasted chicken. Again the smoke flavoring was missing. Take a look at their photos where there is grilling of chicken happening. The Weber Restaurant in Chicago uses the same cookers but with much more success. There is nothing wrong with grilling except when it's being called BBQ. I would like to see the meat, smoked, cut and served while letting the customer season or sauce it to their liking. I was a bit put off by the cleanliness of the place as you can see in the photo below. As for cleaning, we were the only ones in the store while the staff played on their cell phones. They could have been cleaning any spot in the restaurant. Perhaps the owner should watch their staff and have them work and clean rather than playing on their phones. Up Side: Quick and friendly service. Down Side: $27 for 2 plates was pretty steep. Pulled Pork sandwich $7 was VERY salty with almost no BBQ sauce on it. Pretty plain white role, average store type (white and sour dough were the options), guy did offer extra sauce and that's what saved the sandwich. $4 for a side of beans, maaayyyybeee homemade but super plain, no flavor, some chunks of meat. Tri-tip & 1/2 rack of ribs, solid dry rub, meaty, average tenderness but neither was particularly flavorful. Some side salad, mixed greens from a bag with dressing of choice. Appreciate some green but meh. Overall, not a bad spot, but this roll of traveling food roulette felt like a miss. Left full but disappointed on flavor for price. read more

On a road trip from Southern California to South Central Oregon we decided to drive through Red Bluff and stop at Bud's BBQ based on referrals from people along the road. We were not disappointed! I had the tri-tip sandwich and it was loaded with very juicy and tender meat and was incredibly flavorful. My wife got the brisket special and can't stop saying oh my gosh! LOL we will definitely be stopping here again on our way back down south in October. The service was really great and very friendly people all around. Even a live singer entertaining the guests while they sit outside and enjoy their lunch. Definitely a place worth stopping at. Restrooms were also very clean. read more

It used to be a gas station, there's no frills, its off the main road. I REALLY LIKE IT!!! -My kids and I left from home for work around 4am and a 2xx miles away. It had been a LONG day. A local gentleman I was working with named Cody had suggested it, stated it was about 8 minutes away and a fantastic choice. -We arrived a bit after 5, the 2 young ladies there were well mannered, friendly, helpful. The definitions of hospitable. I'm from a large city so this is very welcome. -Its a former gas station, well set up. In/outdoor seating, comfortable. -Bathroom is clean and completely functional. This is high on many peolles list. -The food, which is far from the bathroom. Is this grass-fed chicken, beef and pork? It tastes like grass fed chicken, beef and pork! Like, hey, these animals have a bit of space and a decent quality of life at the worst. This is important to me, the meat is tender, it is VERY WELL FLAVORED, simple seasoning and to the point so that the meat actually sells itself. Meat is packaged and refrigerated to take home and cook I noticed as well. -Fountain drinks and canned beverages, delicious lemonade, no French fries just home style sides. Not a deep fried in site but only cooling grills. Can you tell I love this place? -The 1st young lady behind the counter did not get frustrated with my 6 year old son's drastic indecisiveness. Rather she others him and my daughter samples of the tri-tip. She didn't pick up a piece and cut it up further but rather gave them each a healthy piece of the already pulled section and offered me 1 as well. As I said before, HOSPITALITY! My little girl had the tri.tip sandwich with just lettuce (oh the struggle determining extras with her), a bag of chips and a happy lemonade. My son was thrilled by the sample, he wanted tri-tip, oh man he got the taste! "I WANT MEAT, JUST... MEAT" *son, say please* "PLEASE". The nice lady accommodated. A helping serving of delicious tri-tip, bag of chips and root beer. I got the sampler. Tri-tip, chicken and steak with a root beer as well (The dr.pepper was out but changed quickly!). 3 people, healthy portions, under $40 including tip. So by My standards it is priced. This was super tasty BBQ that we'd drive from Redding on the regular to enjoy. However, I don't know what's going on there because are last three visits haven't been good. We were giving it one more go tonight and, unfortunately, I don't know if we will be back. They hired someone new that talks incessantly and can't be bothered with things like extra plates or flatware. She also charged us $6.40 for a drumstick and a thigh. There were two ladies there that I assumed ran the place, only one was there tonight and she seemed harried. It's a shame because those two ladies were usually super nice and generous with their portions. Tonight there was a vast difference of our normal portion size - we left hungry. They were out of chicken, pulled pork, country ribs and beans. Seriously? It was only 6:30pm when we arrived. This wasn't the first time they've been out of food. You would think they would accommodate for a busy Friday evening. Don't get me wrong - the BBQ is really good. BBQ is my favorite food in the world and I try to get it whenever I travel. Stopped here passing through town based on the good yelp reviews: Pros - Super friendly service. Inexpensive. Good portion size. Tri-tip was good. Spicy and regular BBQ sauces were solid. Cons - Pulled pork was awful. I never tasted anything like it. Meaning it didn't even taste like pork. I was really looking forward to giving this place a 4-5 star review, but, it gets a 2 star only because the jerky we bought was really good. The food wasn't at all what I'd ever consider to be award winning and it makes me now question how many other entries there were. The two gals behind the counter were less than impressive, and one was especially depressing. No smiles, and when asked a question about a menu item the one blonde gal acted as though we asked her a question they she had done repeated 1000 times before we had asked right then. We felt it was a real bother for her to have to even say anything let alone explain a menu option. Was the dining area inviting? NO, by no means. I love down home eclectic spots, which this one attempted to pull off but fell far far short from it. The tri tip had absolutely no zing no pizazz.. and we know bbq, especially my husband since he was raised in Kansas. Heck, anyone living under a rock could tell ya that this was the least satisfying bbq that they ever had. But we did buy some beef jerky that we loved. We were driving back from a sledding trip to Lassen and found this place on Yelp. This place was down home delicious bbq. Nothing fancy, the way a bbq place should be. The food was amazing. We had the tri tip sandwich. Others st our table got the pork ribs and the beef ribs and they were great. Best side was the baked beans. Staff was very friendly. Definitely coming back. The food was so good I took a vacuum sealed pack of chicken home for another meal. read more

If you are on I-5 near red Bluff or (or not) take the time to go to this gem. Down side is that it closes at 6 most days. That aside it has all of the elements of great bbq. Fall off the bone ribs that can do well on their own without bbq sauce. $20 for a slab on special days. Also cheap beer for those of you who like the adult soft drink with your food.
