First, it's located in a somewhat edgy strip mall, but don't let that put you off, because beyond those doors lies some pretty tasty treats. Recently, I've been binging their Birria Tacos which are very tasty, and comes with great sauces. Service: the service is absolutely fantastic. Meh! Overpriced mexican food and mediocre service. So we went to this place for cinco de mayo. I guess that may have contributed to the fact that it was not a good experience overall. As we entered, the server told us that there was no happy hour but their "large" margaritas were $13.95. Well we got their large cadillac margaritas and they were super sour. So sour that our tongues were swelling up. We ask a super sweet girl (think she was bussing) to get them replaced with mango margaritas, and shortly after our server (Jose) comes and gives us an attitude. Well anyways, he brings our mango margaritas on the rocks and they were still sour, but not as sour as the cadillac margaritas. However, when the server brought our check, he charged us $18.95 for the margaritas. And claimed that he said "lime margaritas" were $13.95 not "large". For food, we ordered the chicken nachos. Well it seems like they jipped us one nacho. Looking at all the other pics on yelp, they usually have 6 nachos per order, but ours only had 5. Also, they stick the refried beans under the container with sour cream and pico . Our friend's quesadilla orders were lacking flavor and the portions were really small as well. We are from out of town and always find hometown restaurants when we travel. We came upon 2 Jefes and they did not disappoint. My group had beef chimichanga, street tacos, regular tacos, and cheese enchiladas with green verde sauce. We also had cheese dip, frozen margaritas and beer! The margaritas were some of the best we've ever had! Service was excellent. The timing was a little slow but they had a big group ahead of us so wouldn't expect that all the time. While looking for a new non-chain restaurant to try I came across 2 Jefes. Orlando, the manager, greeted me when I came in and I had Reg choice to sit anywhere. Atmosphere inside was very nice with Mexican music playing in the background. Entire place was clean, to include the bathroom. I had the chimichanga plate, the accompanying bean were so creamy I thought it had cheeses in it but after speaking with Orlando it didn't. Jefes is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The strip mall is a little dodgy (crummy 7-11, 2(!) check cashing places, and a pole dance training center across the street) and the paint job of jefes from the outside it's a little garish. It's a bright lilac color. But, jefes inside is really a decent place to eat. As a warning, I'm not the biggest Tex-Mex or Mexican food fan. I find it a bit Bland. I know everyone will want to pile on but taste matters. I ordered a steak with shrimp and my dinner partner ordered steak also. The fajitas looked really nice but they started around $20 a piece. I know that price is a sign of the times, but that seems a little high. The steak was great and the shrimp wasn't bad either. The beans and rice were tasty, too. Big portions. The salsa that came with the meal was good but nothing special. The margaritas were large and priced right. Jefes has a small bar and they are offering lunch. Plentiful staff who were very attentive. I'm glad to have a new face in the neighborhood. I hope it brings some polish to the hood. read more

We've been there several times with the whole family. The food is the best we've had at any local Mexican restaurant. The wait staff friendly and professional, but maybe sometimes they could be a little more attentive. Inside is bright and nicely appointed. (Our first time there we expected a hole in the wall, given the rundown strip center with a vape shop next door). I came across this gem while looking for a happy hour spot and decided I would try it real soon. Soon came today. Wasn't happy hour but we were hungry. Walked in and everyone was super friendly and we also met one of the owners. They had the whole Bronzino on special and man that thang was delicious. It came with a peppers and cream sauce, rice and beans with onions. My husband had the ribs, quail and shrimp fajitas and my Mom ordered the pork fajitas. Best pork and onions I've had. There are a few things I rate my service on - one) is to refill things that are empty and two) is to check on me once my food comes. Neither happened. Really good!!! My husband had dined here before with a friend who lives nearby. We decided to check it out again on a Friday night when we were craving Mexican. It was excellent and I think it will replace our old faithful. They have happy hour until 7:00 Monday - Friday. The margaritas were strong and not too sweet! Stopped by this restaurant when we were out in Virginia. We tried 2 ceviches which were delicious. We also had the spicy margaritas which were on point.
