Thanks to Fever, we heard about the Rat Pack Holiday Tribute show, which is right up our alley, so we got some tickets. It was a challenge to find out about the theatre and the difference between a regular ticket and a VIP ticket. We were told VIP included parking (we just parked for free on the street), a free glass of wine (not a bad wine, served in a plastic cup with a straw), and guaranteed front row seating (no one seated us, but we did sit in the front). Super tiny, only about 40-50 people, so it's an intimate show. It also got pretty warm in there, so dress in layers and be prepared for that! Out on the deck/patio, they have tables chairs for before and during intermission (though it was chilly outside that night). This is also where they have concessions (water, beer, wine and a few snacks like cookies, candy, etc). The entire staff was very kind and the show was great. I also got to pet one of their ponies on our way back out to the car. We joined their email list and, depending on the show, we are likely to make our way back to the Big Oak Little Theatre!

However, the biggest issue by far was the pricing for the kids' inflatable rides. Charging almost $10 per child for a very simple inflatable slide where kids basically just climb up and slide down for a minute or two feels extremely overpriced and honestly pretty unreasonable. It completely takes advantage of families with small children. If the food and activities are already priced this high, then charging admission on top of everything else doesn't really make sense. The experience wasn't terrible, but definitely not worth the total cost for a family outing.

He was able to go on the little swings which were fun but a less than 5 minute ride will set you back $9. I was happy to pay the food prices but the pastries were pretty expensive and I the person who was helping me was really pushy about buying more than the amount that I wanted. I ended up spending close to $50 for 5 pastries. I was weak! But the baklava was supreme. My son really liked watching the musicians play but holy moly was it LOUD. My ears were ringing even after I left the festival. However, I would come back again in the future. I think it would be fun to come with some friends and drink beers and eat Greek food all day.

While attending Panafest, Panavision showed several fim and video sequences where each cinematic viewer made individual determinations whether the film clip shot was either film or video footage. Pertaining to non-camera industry people: The movie making process is amping up to the highest levels of cinematic productions. What does this mean to cinematic movie attendees and TV viewers? The visual images shown on-screen will be more crisp, clean, and the colors far more vivid tham previous films exhibited. So, get ready to view the new 2008 movies shown at your local cinema theaters and also, please notice the difference with TV shows' productions values soar which will definitely show more impact on-screen. BTW: Panavision's has a film retail store and a retail coffee shop inside where you may buy some coffee, snacks, film production T-shirts, jackets, and other film memorabilia. Have fun learning about film making at Panavision . . . I am confident Panavision will change your views of the way you see film and TV productions in the future. They show a lot of classics, usually focusing on a particular director's work such as Orson Welles or a film movement. After attending a writing class at the Writers Store I purchased Ken's book on pitching. It was…read moreamusing, entertaining, insightful, and very instructive. I discovered, at the back of the book, Ken's telephone number and address. Who does that, I thought. But I picked up the phone, called, and Ken picked up the phone and a professional relationship began. I attended the next workshop, in Ken's home and discovered a warm and gracious mentor who was extraordinarily knowledgeable about writing and the industry. To say that this was a unique experience is not an exaggeration. I started with writing screenplays under Ken's tutelage and my writing skills and understanding of writing increased exponentially. Eventually, after writing three screenplays, I went back to my first love--writing novels. Ken was helpful here as well. Over the past fifteen months I have discovered that unlike many in the industry, Ken genuinely likes people and enjoys helping them reach their goals. I think the key thing is to be open to learning and accept his wisdom. That is not to say that we don't butt heads over fine points, but it is a/an (add your own superlative) experience. As for the Pitchmart, unlike other pitch fests, there are major differences here. The first is the writers are meeting with people who can make decisions and not the office boy or girl. For the agents and the production companies, when they hear a pitch they know that it's been vetted by Ken. The writers are only permitted to pitch Rotcop-approved projects. The other advantage to Ken's Pitchmart is that you are not limited to two minutes. A bell doesn't ring and no one is chasing you out of your chair. The atmosphere is as relaxed as can be in such a situation. You need to go when with a positive attitude and understand that not every project can be sold to anyone. It's kind of like a marriage where you need to fall in love. My attitude, at the last Pitchmart was, "They can reject me, but they can't eat me!" The Pitchmart is held in the Smokehouse Restaurant and lunch is included. The writers then have a second opportunity to talk to the agents and producers. In fact, Ken encourages the writers not to congregate with each other but to eat lunch with the people they've pitched. You are not permitted to attend the Pitchmart unless you are one of Ken's students. That is to say, that you must be physically in one of Ken's groups. He works with writers both nationally and internationally. Last year a writer from Australia attended. I gave Ken Rotcop and the Pitchmart 5 stars . . .and on a scale of 1 to 5, Ken and the Pitchmart earns a solid 10 stars. I have only been at this writing business with Ken for the past 15 months and I've attended 2 Pitchmarts. I haven't sold a project yet, but there were talks going on with three production companies.
