I've had versions where the celery flavor is very prominent, but I thought this one had a lighter flavor since the celery had been chopped smaller. The rice had less of a bite than other étouffée I've had and was similar to regular rice, which I like. There was only (2) plump shrimps and several tiny but well-cooked crawfish in it, but I understand that's what is available right now. The shrimp and grits comes covered with a creamy sauce and slices of andouille sausage. I had a bite from my sister's shrimp and grits and thought they were pretty good but creamier than the other dishes. The grits were kept more basic as flavors of the sauce and meats were already heavy.

Cochinita & Co caught my attention because of owner and chef Victoria Elizondo who was a James Beard semifinalist, Culture Map chef of the year and her restaurant was ranked as one of the top 100 in Houston. The restaurant is located near EaDo and is easy to find. It's in a small strip of businesses so parking can be tight when it's busy. We came with about 30 minutes left for breakfast before they rolled out their lunch menu. There was a few tables of people enjoying their breakfast, but the place got really busy about an hour into lunch. Customer service was great. I needed help making some ordering decisions and the staff steered me in the right direction. I specifically came for breakfast. I started off with an iced Horchata Latte. This drink was excellent. You got all the flavors of a traditional horchata with the cinnamon while still having the coffee flavor present. It was a very well balanced drink. For my entree I went with their popular chilaquiles. They said this is their number one seller for breakfast and I could totally see why. I went with the red chile salsa for the spicy version, but you can also get it with a salsa verde. It comes with black beans, fried egg (you can request a different cook if you desire), crema, queso fresco and green onions. You can add a protein for an additional charge. I added chorizo to mine. Chilaquiles is not something I ever order but I had to try it here. I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone because this dish was amazing. Now I've had bites here and there of chilaquiles but was never blown away, hence me not ordering it. The chips were coated throughout and kept it's crunch through the whole meal. All the components of the dish worked in perfect harmony. I liked mine with the chorizo addition. The egg was nice and runny and I would consider adding another egg next time. It was a generous portion and a heavy meal, but I powered through the whole thing because it was so good. They had a nice display of baked goods and I could not pass up the pretty cinnamon roll. I got the last one and it looked very promising. It ended up being just ok. They served it room temp so it ate very dry. It would have been good if it was heated up and gooey. We ended up wasting most of it. Overall, this visit was long overdue but worth the wait. I'm still thinking about the chilaquiles a week later. I will most definitely be back to check out more of their menu.

I was recovering from a cold so I decided to order a hot herbal tea and was happy to see that they had such a huge selection of loose leaf teas to choose from. My friend also got one of their lattes and we couldn't resist getting a tiramisu before leaving. Overall, we liked everything and I think this place is worth a visit for that Kafeina latte. - Kafeina Latte (4/5): The lady told us that this latte was half white chocolate and half pistachio and we could definitely tastes both flavors. I really liked how they put a lot of pistachio pieces in the drink, giving it a crunchy texture. This drink is definitely on the sweeter side though, so keep that in mind. - Nutty Almond Cream Cinnamon Herbal Tea (4/5): I was very happy with the flavor of this tea. Like the name suggest, it tasted very almond-y and had a good amount of cinnamon flavored. There was also a tangy fruity flavor that followed and reminded me of spiced cider. - Tiramisu (4.5/5): I was really impressed with their tiramisu. The mascarpone layer was very nice and custardy, yet felt so light and refreshing. I also loved how strong the coffee flavor was which helped balance out the dessert and made it not too sweet. Service/Ambiance: Upon entering, I was really surprised by how pretty the interior was with the mixture of gold and wood. I'm not sure how pack this place usually gets because I came at an off time ( like 1 pm), but they had a good amount of tables and seating available.
