Can't sell a product at a premium price point and miss the mark like that. I didn't really smell smoke in restaurant or outside. Huge red flag. I've been to uncles BBQ a few times, and have always had a good experience. You can probably get the best pulled pork sandwich for value here! Their pulled pork is always super tender and juicy, and had a nice Smokey flavor. Some of their other meats can be a bit hit-or-miss, but the several times I've been here the pulled pork/ brisket is usually solid. The interior is pretty small, but has a nice ambiance. It's a pretty great spot to get takeaway from. The service is also very good. Especially for the quality of meat, you really don't have to wait at all (unlike at corkscrew). I recommend this place. Was craving bbq and ended up at Uncle's for dinner. The restaurant is located at Kuykendahl and Dowdell in a gas station complex. We were welcomed on entry; the place was empty and clean - food and drinks are to be ordered at the cash register counter. Ordered Two Meat Plate (Brisket and Jalapeño Sausage, with Okra and Elote - street corn), Half Baked Potato (with Jalapeño Sausage, Elote, and Okra), and Birria Tacos (with Elote). Food arrived promptly and tasted fantastic! Tender, well-smoked Brisket, mildly spicy Sausage, crispy-soft Tacos with tender Pulled Pork, and flavorful Baked Potato with the usual toppings. Okra and Elote too were great, as were the spicy Salsa and BBQ Sauces. The only downside was the to-go plastic ware that served as our main cutlery and styrofoam drinks cups. A bit casual for a sit-down restaurant. The meal set us back $70, including tax and tip. Not cheap, especially given the bare bones service items, but the food was well worth it! In deciding to try a new local places, we tried uncle's barbecue. My husband was so excited he has been seeing it said let's go in so very friendly gentlemen at the counter, the place smiled a little bit like Pine-Sol which OK it's clean but not where I really want it eat while smelling cleaner. Our plates came out. He ordered the rib plate and my husband is a connoisseur of barbecue and these were to say the least subpar. They did not taste like they were fresh barbecue. They tasted more like they were oven cooked, and they were tough. I got the baked potato with sliced brisket, but it came chopped not my favorite. And the potato was still a little bit hard. Had it been cooked a little bit more it would've been amazing. It was huge. It just didn't taste like smoked barbecue or anything other than just cooked in an oven. Not trying to put this place down. I don't have an updated photo of my food from my last visit! Customer service was good! This past week I visited uncles to get a lunch menu deal but at the time they were out of meat. I was told to wait about 35 minutes. I said ok no problem I'll return but I end up leaving on my own. I returned this Saturday to get a meal I was craving for all week! I asked for extra bbq sauce for both combos but only received three in total so basically I got one extra. It wasn't enough for my bake potato that didn't really have meat on it! Made a regrettable decision to try this place out, in lieu of our go-to BBQ spot. Very disappointed. Price is not reflected by the low quality ingredients and the scarcity of the portions. Baked potato - Barely any cheese. Barely any meat. The brisket we got was dry & had no flavor. Only the bbq sauce could help disguise this, so we slathered as much as we could on top. But, my biggest peeve with this item is that the menu advertises "bacon" as a topping. This is misleading. What they give you is a sprinkle of the fake bacon "bit" cracker stuff... I hate bacon bits. Macaroni & cheese - I ordered the "plain" Mac, so i was not expecting giant chunks of crunchy onion and pieces of mystery meat. The flavor and texture were off-putting. What was even more disheartening was that the tiny little container was packed barely half full. We got about 2-ounce portion for the cost of $5, and it hardly lasted 3 bites. Smoked wings - Ok, so these are quite good. Cooked right, not dry. The chicken itself had a subtle smoky flavor complimented well by the Buffalo sauce the wings were tossed in. The ribs fell off the bones and it was a tad fatter than I would like but very flavorful. The Mac and cheese had an adequate amount of cheese and temperature was perfect for consumption. The Green beans were very salty. Too salty. All meats were on the fatty side but flavorful without the side of bbq sauce. The sauce was to my liking - vinegar tangy. Service was fast. Because my loaded baked potato was massive and delicious. --- --- --- It's hard for me to ever pass on a loaded baked potato because there's nothing in one of those bad boys that I don't love. The cheese, the sour cream, the chives, the bacon, the butter. Oh, and the potato. It's all heaven on a plate. At Uncle's you can add two different types of meat to the top of a potato, and I opted for pulled pork and brisket. When it came out, I couldn't believe how large it was. Where do they find potatoes this big? I'm not sure, but I was the man for the job, if the job was to eat an inordinately large portion of food. Honestly, it was all really great. A minor complaint is that I wish I had real silverware and not the plastic kind, which is annoying when you're attempting to spread a bunch of ingredients around a potato the size of Kansas. I also enjoyed the fries and couldn't resist trying the Mexican Street Corn, which was excellent. This isn't your typical southern style BBQ, it almost has more of a Mexican fusion flavor and it's one of the best things I've ever tasted. Uncle's is a small but pretty tasty BBQ joint on Kuykendahl. I run in there often for lunch as it's just a few miles from the abode. The food is good overall with a nice choice of meats (that have a light smokey flavor) and some really nice sides. The quantity is a bit small for the price and it's not always hot. The brisket and ribs can be dry at times so I go with the pulled pork mostly. Like I said, it's convenient, pretty good taste and the sides are good. The main reason for the poor review is the temperature of the food is not always warm, it's a little dry at times but mostly it's the service. I have been in there a few times and the owner is on the phone the whole time he is waiting on me. Takes the order, takes the payment and hands over the food without putting the phone down. The ambiance isn't there nor is the thank you. I understand being busy but multiple times I have ordered and left without a thanks or even felt like they appreciated the business. We ordered a 1/2lb of pulled pork and 1/2lb of brisket with a side of green beans and potato salad. Here is a list of what I felt went wrong: 1. The meat was room temp and they skimped on the 1/2lb portion sizes. 2. They left out bbq sauce for the brisket. 3. The flavor of the brisket was overly salted 4. Skimped on the sides portions compared to the cost. 5. Potato salad was heavy on the Mayo 6. Green beans were soggy, strange taste, and obviously store bought frozen. The pulled pork was kind of okay, but was not great nor horrible. Would recommend that you save your money and disappointment and go somewhere else. Tasty barbecue! We love that they are within walking distance of our house. Their barbecue sauces are nice, with a "spicy" option. It's not particularly spicy but it is still nice. Both are sweet. That's my preference for BBQ sauce so that's nice. My favorite meat is the brisket. The pork is not bad for not being in Memphis! My husband also enjoys the sausage and the turkey. But a decent size they didn't even put butter on the baked potato. Just a small sour cream on the side . When you buy a fully loaded, baked potato, you think it comes with everything it doesn't Not worth it!!! The potato salad was okay a little watery for my taste. But had flavor.
