BBQ Chicken and yellow rice
Donna R.

If your looking for authentic Portuguese barbecue and you don't want to travel to Newark then look no further. This place isn't much to look at, in fact it could use a facelift, but that being said the food is delicious, the portions are a nice size, and the prices are decent. The staff is friendly and attentive. I ordered their BBQ Chicken, it's marinated, seasoned well, and grilled over open flame and they use real wood, which keeps the chicken very juicy. I also ordered their yellow rice and black beans which was a nice accompaniment and delicious. They do have a dining room, but my review is based strictly on take out. The service was fast and efficient. This place is good for kids and they do have outdoor seating. I did not get dessert but I know they're known for their Tres Leche cake. Whether you dine in or get takeout it's definitely worth a try.

This is a revisit review. After a subpar food experience the first time, my experiences after that have been very delightful. I always for the barbecue short ribs- medium. Ribs are always juicy and tender. Love it when there's just a little bit of fat in it. Ribs pairs really nice with rice. I always like to add the hot sauce. Perfect combination. Recently I tried their T-Bone steak. I was shocked by the size and portion. It's one order served on a catering tray. Huge steak. It was juicy and succulent. My go to spot now. Always order ahead because they need time to cook it otherwise you can enjoy watching them cook the meats on the grill.

Beef ribs with rice and fries. delicious.

Went here Pre-COVID and always loved their beef ribs. The portions are pretty huge to me and the prices are reasonable. I love Portuguese food and this place always hits the spot. Their rotisserie chicken is also delicious as well -- very juicy and not at all dry. I would make this my go to spot if it wasn't a wee bit far from me.

BBQ chicken and pork spare ribs combo, also comes with black or red beans, or fries, or salad. (The black beans are my fav)

Absolutely fantastic Portuguese style BBQ at a reasonable price. The chicken and steak are particularly good!

The menu had mostly Hawaiian options to choose from. The pricing was very reasonable as well. I had the customizable poke bowl ($15.95). There was a number of different options to choose from with different proteins, toppings, sauces, etc. I had a base of brown rice with avocado, cucumber, sweet corn, edamame, mango, ahi tuna, spicy mayo, ginger, wasabi, jalapeno, green onion, and cilantro. This was nicely done. Everything appeared fresh and it was a good size portion. I would have just liked to seen a little more ahi tuna present, but besides that, very pleasant and filling. I also had the spam musubi ($2.95) and a side of macaroni salad ($3.95). The musubi was okay. It was a little dry. There needed to be more sauce present. The macaroni salad was a heaping portion, and it was tasty. There looked like a lot of mayonnaise present, but it was not too overpowerful as some type of sugar seemed to be incorporated to balance it out. Regardless of what it was, the salad was flavorful. Will I go back? I would.

They tend to overcook the burger sometimes. They have saimin which is cool. Hardly any places have it out here. They dont have laulau or Portuguese sausage, but i havent found any places in jersey that serve that. Which is really sad, since i miss that the most. DONT GET THE POKÉ BOWL! They say 3 scoops, but the scoops are tiny. Each scoop had 4 pieces of fish. Thats fuxking ridiculous! All the other places I've been to use the big ice cream scoops. The poké bowl is a rip off. Just go somewhere else that will actually give you more than 4 pieces of fish per scoop. Would give 3 stars, but 2 stars because of the poké bowl. People are nice and service was good. Ps. Stop putting raw onions in your Mac salad. No good

Loco Moco (Island Grill) - The grilled beef patty was terrible and dry even with the sauce it still did not help. The fried eggs, one of the eggs, were overcooked where the yolk cooked fully, and the other one was fine sunnyside up. Pork Katsu & Kalbi Short Ribs with Curry Sauce (Island Combo) - Short Ribs were overdone and tasted burnt. Like, not a BBQ tastes like a burnt taste. Pork Katsu was overcooked and dry. When you bite it, it is ready hard, like biting a rock. Plus, that Pork Katsu wasn't even a Pork Katsu. It's like a really thin slice of pork dipped in panko batter. It doesn't even match with the picture. (Japanese restaurants make better Pork Katsu). The curry sauce was at a different level. You can see the sauce sink to the bottom and water floating to the top. I think it was like a water down sauce that they tried to make it last without throwing it away. Overall, the meals, taking a quote from Bob's Burgers, as Bob Belcher says, "Overdone and Dry." Plus, it was missing Macaroni Salad. Even though their website says the Island Grill and Combo include 2 Scoops of Rice, 1 Scoop of Macaroni Salad on a Bed of Cabbage. Will never be coming back here to order food.

The service was friendly, and the food came out extremely quickly. I felt we were being rushed just a tad, but not a huge deal. For appetizers, the falafel ($7?), Mantu ($8?), and bholani cadu ($6?) were ordered. Regarding the falafel, there were five to an order. The falafel was very crispy and had decent flavor. I thought they needed a little more seasoning present. The Mantu were Afghan style dumplings filled with ground beef, onions, and seasonings. It was garnished with homemade mint yogurt and lentil sauce. This was light and soft with tons of flavor. The dumplings were filled appropriately, and the lentil sauce was a pleasant addition. The bholani cadu was a thin fried pastry filled with butternut squash and seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. This was interesting. The wonton was very crispy. The squash filling was sweeter than I thought, but still tasty. I also might add all of the three sauces provided at the tables were good, with the cilantro one being my favorite (cilantro I believe anyway). For my entrée, I had the lamb shank ($38?). It came with a soup, salad, a choice of rice, and naan. The soup appeared to be a lentil soup. It came out hot and was very pleasant. The salad consisted of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. It was prepared nicely as all the pieces were small and a good size portion. The simple dressing was great too. The lamb shank came with a few vegetables. The lamb was extremely tender, but not much meat was on the bone. There needed to be a little more seasoning too as it was lacking. I am just glad the lamb was so tender. I went with the Kabuli rice which had steamed carrots and raisins on top. This was fluffy and flavorful with a ton of it. The naan was okay, a little too crispy. I also tried the lamb chops. They had an unreal cook on them and seasoned well. I also tried the zamarud rice, which was good too. For dessert, the rice pudding ($8?) was ordered. It was creamy and filling. The nice crunch from the pistachios on top was a good addition. Will I go back? I would, yes.
