Heart of Palm Salad. Yes that is a scoop of literal Peanut Butter Ice Cream as dressing in the middle of the dish. What are they thinking?!
    Elizabeth S.

We went to Cedar Key for a quick weekend away for the Father's Day weekend and decided to go to 29 North for an early dinner on night. It was an interesting night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The upstairs restaurant is just beautiful. The view is breathtaking. Watching the dolphins while we waited for our meal was the highlight of the evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went appetizer heavy because they all sounded so good and we couldn't decide. We got Crab Dip, Smoked Duck Buns, Korean Cauliflower and the Pimento Cheese and biscuits. My husband got the Minorcan Clam Chowder and the Seafood pasta and I got the Coconut and Corn Chowder. Everything was delicious and I would order any of them again. And then it went a little off the rails. We decided to split the Heart of Palm salad. I love Heart of Palm and was excited to see it on the menu. The menu describes the dish as coming with an "ice cream dressing." I do not know what I was expecting, but it was not this. The waiter brought it over and there was a literal scoop of green, frozen, peanut butter ice cream on top of the green salad. I was flabbergasted. I tried it, and it was definitely different. I thought maybe the chef knew something and this was just new. I certainly have had dishes over the course of my life that I didn't think I'd like but I ended up loving. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and give it a good try. Nope. It was ice cold peanut butter ice cream and a green salad. I decided to let it melt and treat it like a dairy dressing. Still no. Did I mention the ice cream is peanut butter flavored? I do not like peanut butter and a green salad. I'm sure some people must love it, or why is it still on the menu?! But I just could not do it. I still think about it sometimes. It's been two months. Shudder. It's worth noting that we came back after dinner elsewhere the next night for a slice of Key Lime Cake. Unbelievable! That cake redeemed them. It's worth the trip!

The food and service was great! We had a large party of 18 that they had to separate into 2 groups and they easily accommodated us. I had the pistachio crusted grouper and it was fresh and perfectly sweet. The compound butter complimented it very nicely. Their drinks are strong and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back.

First visit to Cedar Key and used Yelp to pick 29 North. We all enjoyed our entrees; burger, buttermilk chicken, shrimp and grits and Hearts of Palm Salad. We started with a fish dip with fried saltine crackers. Crackers are addictive. I would love to here how peanut butter ice cream ended up in this salad! Great staff and what a view!

The food was exceptional, kudos to the chef! The service was a little on the slow side, but the food definitely made up for it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great view upstairs![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Our food was delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]What a beautiful view and beautiful restaurant right on the water.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Loved the pecan crusted grouper with the whipped brown butter. Key lime cake was great and the steamed clam & smoked fish dip appetizers were nice. The only thing we did not enjoy was the bisque soup that tasted a lot like canned tomato soup.

Inside seating. Cute and cozy with wall of windows overlooking ocean behind me

Arrived just before sunset at laid back Cedar Key. After a short walk around town to stretch our legs, we wandered back to the wharf and found this charming place for dinner. Downstairs is a casual / bar while upstairs is where the chef lives. The atmosphere is definitely island, but with linen napkins and funky silverware. I had a crab bisque soup that was subtle and with a nice cream base. But the winner was my salad. The heart of palm (swamp cabbage) salad with crystalized ginger, fruits, pistachios and pistachio ice cream as your dressing. It seems like such a weird combination but it works. Google it for the history. Finished with a delightfully light key lime cake. Cream cheese frosting over a subtle key lime layer cake. All in all a very nice meal. I would hope to return as they are closed for the remaining nights of our short visir

Headed to see family for Christmas and decided to take a detour to Cedar Key and ended up here for dinner. We cannot recommend this place enough. They were a little slow so we just seated ourselves at the table in the corner with a fantastic view. Our waitress, a 9th generation islander, was friendly and helpful. She was enthusiastic about the food and her home. We started with a crab empanada. Excellent and a favorite of the night. For dinner, my husband had fried oysters with 6 blackened shrimp and a side of house made chips. I opted for my familiar favorite shrimp and grits. No complaints on either entree and we both exclaimed over how much we loved the shrimp!!! For dessert, we split a piece of pumpkin pie, plated with white chocolate sauce, pecan "toffee", and an amazing whipped cream. The service, the view, the food. We loved it all!

We took the in laws to this restaurant and everything we got was a 10/10. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a beautiful view of the gulf coast and watched dolphins jumping in the distance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely want to go back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was simply amazing from the moment we arrived.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We sat at the bar, and were immediately greeted by Annette. Great bartender, great service! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view just added to the ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was delicious! Appetizers, dinner and dessert! Definitely a must stop in Cedar Key!

Jamie Thank You very much for the excellent service. And to the chef, Thank you for the great food! We had the Goat cheese salad, blackened grouper and pecan crusted grouper, I'm sorry I didn't take a picture- both excellent. Vegetables cooked perfect. And yes, I opted to wrap up leftovers and Go for dessert - Peach Cobbler w/ ice cream - INCREDIBLE!! My new favorite restaurant. BEST MEAL I'VE Had since COVID. A day trip with 3 couples in March turned into a glorious food event. Everyone loved their meals and appetizers, from the gator kabobs to the Thai style snapper and everything in between. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The upper level has a great view[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and our "Jersey Girl" waitress was the best. Great attitude and very helpful. This place is definitely on our favorites list.

Had a choice of eating in the bar , the dining room or outside. We chose the dining room and glad we did. Overall all our service was very good. The server was friendly ( and very busy handling a lot of tables). I had an 8oz filet which was very good. I ordered it medium ( light pink center) and it cane out true Pittsburgh rare ( charred outside but rare inside- see pics) I was actually ok with it .... I order medium for my wife to have a couple bites even though I prefer more med rare. So this was def rare inside but I loved it ( I cut her a small end piece that was cooked a little more ) The steak comes with a salad, a vegetable and potato ( a lot of restaurants everything is alacarte - so for $40 for a prime 8oz filet with those sides included .... Not bad. Wife had shrimp and grit cake which is a large appetizer ( she had as her meal). Also had stuffed mushrooms to start that were very good. I think the town of Cedar Key will prob be one and done for us. Wanted to see it , it's quaint , old Florida ... but prob wouldn't come back. ( but only because we just wanted to check it off of a long list of Florida towns to visit) Pro tip: they don't take American Express , odd for a linen table cloth type of place .... So , it's ok to leave home without it

The outside was pretty full and we thought about sitting out there, but the idea of the bugs getting me later pushed us back inside. by the time we left at 6:40, there were only 3 other tables occupied in the dining room. We had a good dinner, although in reading some of the other reviews, we might have had the same server who seemed to be very slow and big gaps in between visiting our table - she seemed to disappear. I had the Calypso pasta with scallops, which was great. We had the stuffed mushrooms to start, which were yummy, but only 3. and my husband had a snapper fish of the day dish. He also enjoyed the pecan pie. And I enjoyed his ice cream. I was not a fan of any of the cocktails, so just had a glass of wine. My husband had the almond joy/mounds martini, whatever it was called, and he liked it a lot.

The chicken was disturbingly small Chicken- butchered thin( less than 1/2 breast portion) The chicken not breaded, breast filet sliced served on an oversized bun, which belittles the poor chicken. When complained another breast sandwich was sent right away, but was not cooked. How can you send out RAW chicken! Chef ramsey would be infuriated! also portioned smaller than bread and full of gristle. Un- edible. Made due with over-cooked first order to appease my appetite, and not to complain a thirtd time. but both a sad looking chicken choice for the $10.99 price tag. However, our Waitress tried to compensate for the cooks poor or lack of skill: by only charging the price of the french fries. For a day of just taking a drive and finding this restaurant on the water, he view was gorgeous on the suwanee. Lovely day, nice weather and many airboats and finshing along the banks, the food I would skip. (At least the chicken) however my friend who ordered the blackened fish sandwich also a small portion of fish, but was pleased with the flavor and cook. So it may be a hit or miss type of place. The one star review is on the chicken sandwich. I guess the saying goes don't order something land when at a seafood restaurant.

Had some light rain on the way to Suwannee only to discover their "covered" outdoor seating is no longer safe due to structure issues. The staff was kind enough to allow is to sit inside. I must say the seafood was the best I've had in the area and will definitely be making the 30 minute drive more often.
