Last minute we were looking for an easy way to tour the winery's in Fredericksburg / Johnson City and luckily stumbled across 290 Wine Shuttle from a blog post. The shuttle was perfectly located to downtown and we started off on our venture. I think the longest we waited in between wineries was 10 minutes. They take you to each winery and it is hop on / hop off for the entire times the wineries are open. They assured us they take count to make sure no one is left behind! My cousins and I did this as a day trip when we were in the area for a family reunion. The 290 Wine shuttle was great! The shuttles arrived at the winery very often so you can leave whenever you want and not be stuck at one place. Around 5:45 when they were doing their final pickup there was a line of people waiting but no big deal! Definitely will use them again! read more

We were so impressed by the friendly drivers and how accommodating they were. Since the morning was not very crowded, the drivers were willing/able to drop us off wherever we wanted on the route. Keep in mind that this shuttle only goes to a specific list of wineries, and therefore you will miss some of the other really great places along 290. And it's Saturdays only. But we knew that, and therefore used Friday to visit some other places on our own. Due to covid reopen rules, many wineries required reservations (book at least a week in advance!) and had limited capacity. By the late afternoon, each shuttle got pretty full. But we never had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a shuttle. read more

My wife and I visited Fredericksburg for our 17th wedding anniversary this past weekend. I wanted to go with a tour where we could visit as many vineyards as possible. I'm all about having a designated driver and let me tell You getting a shuttle is worth the experience. You can go to as many places as you want or just the best vineyards. In my opinion, Becker, and grape creek. After about the fourth tasting you really can't tell the difference and all the places start to resemble each other (different story). 290 shuttle drivers were very professional, and if you're lucky you can sit in the front seat and play DJ for the whole van ;) don't let your group down by picking country, or worse Miley Cyrus. read more

So reasonably priced for what you get. The staff was super friendly and it's a great way to make friends that aren't in your group! I loved the fact that they would keep your wine glasses and any bottles of wine that you purchased along the way so I didn't have to lug it all around all day. We used 290wine to host a private winery tour for 5 couples. Paula with 290 wine was unsuccessful at finalizing an itinerary and nailing down our schedule. 5 days prior to the tour she texted that the winery she spoke highly about and was sold to us for our first main stop for tasting and lunch was not able to fit us in. From there it was a downward spiral to figure out the new schedule as everything else was booked "well in advance". I guess by all the other wine tours! She then tried to force a full tour and tasting of the whiskey distillery that was previously marketed as an "add on" stop for sharing tastings with your spouse and it turned into the main event for our day. Without warning the distillery charged my credit card in advance for the Tour and Tasting and prepaying for all 10 ppl. She did not explain this well and it was unnecessary since all we wanted was the tasting and not full tour price. Thankfully she helped cancel that mess up but we still went back to the drawing board 3 days prior to our tour on the busiest Nov Saturday in Fredericksburg! When we started out in the morning the driver told us the schedule and turned out that the final two stops turned into one winery which was never discussed with me. We had the joy/ headache of on the fly discussions with the driver and texting Paula on the day of our tour. Nothing was ever written down or professionally sent to us or emailed as an itinerary. Wanting: Get your scheduled itinerary in writing well in advance and pray they follow up with booking the tastings! Not sure if she is new or the private tour model is new for them, but it was not a smooth operation. My first time doing a wine tour in Fredericksburg and I was counting on them to make the reservations in advance and make it happen. Did I mention the substitute winery Baron's creek agreed to hosting us for lunch and we were served something like our kids lunchable pizza with unmelted cheese. Paulas response? For my 21st, my mom and I decided to use this wine shuttle service, we had a great experience in the morning. However, in the afternoon when we wanted to go back to town for dinner, we were forced to get off of a bus at the last winery before town due to a big party pick up at another venue. We were promised the bus behind us would pick us up, but they drove off without us. When we went to try to catch another one around five, we were kicked off twice. This shuttle is such a great idea if your are checking out local wineries for the first time, definitely a safe no-hassle way to sample at several venues. We enjoyed being able to leave our purchases with the company instead of hauling bottles around. All the drivers are super nice and willing to give you a summary of each location. At the busy wineries we did have to wait a bit longer to catch a shuttle with empty spots, but this never hindered us from getting to the next place quickly. Some wineries do close earlier than others for member's only hours, so we did have to be cautious about where we got dropped off at what time. Since I know which wineries I like now, I would just find a DD or go to 2 a day driving myself next time. read more

So affordable, convenient, outstanding service. I would say they were around much more than every 15 minutes. With all the drinking going on, i left my expensive leather bag with ipad at one of the wineries. They picked it up from the winery, transfered to another driver, and brought back to town. There were about 4 opportunities for it to be stolen and a truly appreciated so many honest good people. We look forward to coming back and using same service. I'd recommend taking short cab ride to and from the pickup place. You don't want to drink and drive getting back to your lodging. read more

Five girls had an excellent time for a bachelorette party using 290 Wine Shuttle. Booking ahead online was easy. Checked in and hopped on the bus in under 5 min. They say a bus every 15 min at every location, but I don't think we waited more than 3-5 min at any time. This was a great first-time experience with this company. The pick-up is right across from the Visitor's Center and you pay the shuttle driver prior to boarding. For $25 for a full day of shuttle service, the price can't be beat. My friend and I used the service on a Sunday and we had practically zero wait time. The owner told us to just call his cell number when we needed to be picked up and they were there within 5 minutes every time. What a fantastic way to tour the wineries without driving! They even hold your purchases for you between stops if you'd like. This is genius. Hop on at the Pacific War Museum and hop off at any of 12 wineries throughout the day. We made it to 4. The shuttle was true to its word and came around promptly. The vans are air conditioned but get kind of toasty in the back. I would tour with them again. read more

This was an awesome and convenient way to make it to a lot of wineries without waiting in an uber. They were time efficient and friendly. Make sure you tip once they drop you at places, that was our mistake. We were going to tip at the very end, but ended up staying at a winery too late- we feel really bad about it because it was such great service. I will certainly use this shuttle service again. Great service at a great price! This shuttles between 11 wineries on HWY 290. What a great way to enjoy the wine country without driving. We never waited more than 10 minutes until the next shuttle came by. You can stay on the shuttle if you want to pass up one of the wineries, can stay 10 minutes, an hour or several hours without being herded off with the group. They tag & take care of your packages throughout the day so you are not burdened with all the purchases made along the way. And for the price, a very good deal. The only negative was that we were not told we had to pick up our purchases at the Visitors Center at 5:30pm. It worked great for our group since we just walked from the Center to Main St to have an incredible dinner. I will use this service again. read more

Highly recommend this shuttle service. We paid $26 per person and the shuttle dropped us off and picked us up at all the wineries we would've stopped at had we drove ourselves. They come every 10-15 minutes and they even hold your things for you if you decide to purchase wine at the vineyards. We only had to wait 5 minutes at most for a bus. I hate to brag on him with fear that his price would go up. George was worth every penny. He helped carry our wine to the car, gave us useful information and local tidbits when appropriate but also let us enjoy our own group of people. He was there when needed and visited with his winery friends when we were doing the tastings. It was the perfect amount of help and then letting us be. The hop-on, hop-off idea is wonderful in theory, however the reality is the 15 minute shuttle schedule is a lie. It is more like 30-35 mins between each shuttle, which leaves you standing around waiting, and severely cuts into your time to visit each winery. You are better off just driving your own car and saving the $25. The list of wineries they stop at is also incorrect, so you don't know which winery is next on the itinerary. read more

Great service for this area. Wish they had other wineries on the route bc some of these vineyards I do not love, but Mike the owner said they are adding and expanding new routes. They are very flexible and prompt with buses and I've used them two different times now. Would recommend this for couples or very small groups where it would be too expensive to do a private tour. Could not have asked for a better experience. We were in Fredericksburg for a girls weekend to celebrate my Mom's bday. It was me, my sister and my mom. I booked the shuttle ahead of time and everything from the booking through the drop off and pick up of our belongings was seamless. The price was the best I found and not only were all of the employees we encountered super friendly and courteous, we never even had wait for a bus when we were ready for the next stop. They also hold all your belongings/purchases for you so you can pick them up at the end and you don't have to lug them around with you.
