I got a chicken blt. Very bland and very small for $13. It was on a club roll. I realize these are Avalon prices but for $13 I at least expect a normal size roll. Anyway....nothing fancy. Grabbed lunch from here recently and it was totally fine but nothing exceptional. We managed to snag parking right outside, but I think we got really lucky because there are only a few spots. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken special sandwich and thought the bread was pretty darn tasty. The ingredients inside were fine but didn't blow me away - I feel like they could have jazzed it up with a pesto or something. The price was a little inflated but nothing crazy. I ordered a blt wrap with extra bacon. I got to beach, took a bite, no bacon. Not even one piece!!! It was made with Jersey tomatoes and it was good but I was disappointed it was just lettuce and tomato. I called and they were nice about it. Said I could come get another. I came to 29th St Deli today for the first time and ordered a pineapple chicken teriyaki cheesesteak. I tried a similar cheesesteak years ago and have been craving it since. I was in the area and needed lunch, and was so excited when I saw this on the menu! It was so good. Huge portion, and they used chunks or real chicken instead of crappy cheesesteak meat. However, the sandwich was extremely soggy and fell apart when I ate it 10 minutes after pickup. So I think next time I'll ask for the roll toasted. I can't wait to come back! read more

When I die and go to heaven, I hope that this place is up there to serve Buff chix cheese steaks. This place is the ultimate beach sandwich shop and they know how to make a mean cheese steak. From the original to the messy buffalo chicken one, this place knows how to do it. Just stopped by our favorite deli in Avalon! I usually get the cheesesteak (best in SJ) but was hungry for a cold hoagie instead! Sooo good! Tuna and provolone with the works did not disappoint! Also got some fries! My daughter got a grilled veggie wrap, husband got a turkey hoagie. Everything was fresh and delicious! Great deli! They offer gluten free but only for trendy diet purposes not Celiac friendly. We got a cheesesteak and Ruben which were both delicious. For our GF person we grabbed deli meat from Avalon Market next door and made them a safe sandwich at home. read more

this wasn't my first choice when I decided to place a delivery order this past weekend BUT it was the only place I could get ahold of during the off season (at least this past weekend, October 2019). I did not have the chance to eat here. It was raining/not nice out so I decided to drive down with my two year old to visit my parents. He was hungry so we popped in to see what was on the menu. I began to explain that my son had allergies and I wanted to see what was safe for him to eat. The exact response, before I could even articulate what his allergies were, was "we don't accommodate people worn food allergies". They were rude and snotty and their tone was offensive. I have never had this issue ever before. Establishments have said that they could not be sure the food was safe for him or they have indicated cross contamination so better not risk him eating their and I have always relied upon and appreciated these answers. But never have I been talked down to and degraded. Maybe the food is good I have no idea - but do not go here if you have any sort of allergy ! read more

We were driving through Avalon and my daughter was in the mood for a burger, so I jumped on Yelp and with a quick search found 29th Street Deli & Grille. When we first entered, my family got nervous about the food quality because the "deli" is attached to a grocery and it wasn't the restaurant experience we were expecting. But we forged forward and ordered a burger, an Italian deli sandwich and a cheesesteak. Our food was delivered to us by very nice staff to an umbrella table in front of the deli. The food was incredible. I thought the cheesesteak with wiz was better than the one I had at "Jims" in Philadelphia a few days before. My daughter was very happy with her burger and my wife loved the Italian sandwich. We were all very pleasantly surprised how good our food was. Do not pass this place by. Stayed at a friend's rental right across the street this past weekend and we required an obligatory beach hoagie so we stopped into 29th Street Deli. A nicely laid out and clean interior with a good looking salad bar in the middle. The place is attached to '"Avalon Market," a small grocery store. I ordered an "Italian Our Way" hoagie. The hoagie was nearly as good as Italian hoagies I've had in Philly. The bread was not as legendary as Sarcone's (etc.) but it was still good, slightly crispy and flaky on the outside and soft inside. The hoagie was packed with meat and toppings, so much so that I had difficulty finishing (rarely a problem for me), but at the same time it was nicely prepared and none of the toppings spilled out. They also served Dirty and Kettle Brand chips which go nicely with hoagies. (Though I would also prefer to see Herr's, a more local brand, represented too!) My hoagie stayed fresh on the trip down to the beach. My girlfriend got the tuna hoagie which she said was really good, though it got a bit soggy by the time we traveled to the beach. We returned the next morning for breakfast sandwiches. I tried "The Long Board" which was scrambled eggs, cheese and your choice of ham, bacon, sausage or pork roll on a hoagie roll. Delish and perfect for that slight, after-Jersey-shore-bar hangover. Would definitely go back. read more

The deli and it's food have always been among the best on island. They have been and remain quick and reasonably priced. This summer the staff have gone beyond the pale, however. A summer staff of teenagers is not expected to provide fine dining level service. If they could provide the service of a street vendor I'd settle at this point. The past 3 visits in a row I was confronted by an order taker who completely ignored me in order to finish gossiping with a coworker or flirting with a coed. Today - and what drove me to post - this particular worker ignored me to finish a conversation with a coworker, promptly walked away to verify the gossip told was true, then came back to ask me to wait just to confirm with that very same coworker that the gossip was fact. It's appalling. As the gossip increases, the quality in the food has decreased. The management is doing their customers a great disservice and perhaps even more important, they are doing their employees a disservice. I struggle to justify my patronage at this point. read more

Being a loyal 29th St customer for almost a decade I've had few complaints over the years. It was until I started trying different places (other than Wawa, obviously) for sandwiches, that I realized just what I was truly missing out on. It's about time this place was given some competition with Primohoagies opening up and other small sandwich shops in the area. Incredibly unorganized. I waited 25 minutes for a egg and cheese egg sandwich and that was after having to work to get it back because they tried to give my order to someone else.
