So glad we checked this place out because we WILL be back! Jeff, the owner and head brewer, was fantastic. This is how it should be done, my brew friends. He immediately started "throwing" samples at us when he found out it was our first time. No offense to breweries who do it different, but the mix of enthusiastic personality and offering samples is exactly what us brew nerds want when we are touring new breweries. We were able to sample every beer without breaking the bank or over-doing it on alcohol. We have no problem buying flights-ever- but it usually limits us on what comes next. Here we were able to make an informed decision on a pint each and then split a 3rd while we chatted and enjoyed our visit. The beer? Excellent. My favorite of the day, the hubby says 2nd favorite of the 3 we visited. He gave us and another first time patron a tour, another huge plus. The Yoga Pants IPA and the Clover Red were the winners. Really like the owner - the guy loves his beer, and he will give you the tour as tell you what he's got in the pipeline in regards to any "new concepts" for beer. I'm a fan of both the Odd Man Stout and the Chocolate Porter. Outdoor patio is nice...just wish it was bigger. Had the cheesesteak from the food truck this last Saturday, and it was decent. We had a fabulous time when we spontaneously stopped into this brewery for a beer and ended up sampling all of them. It's a small brewery but you can tell that the owner is passionate and knowledgeable about his brews. All of the beer was great and it was a pleasure speaking to the bartenders. This place is great! First off, the most important part of a brewery, the beer. I believe this goes without saying, but they brew on premesis, and I have not yet had a beer there that I didn't love. My general rule is to try a flight, but as everything I have had is good (they rotate in new beers as they brew new ones), grab a pint and enjoy! Second, the staff is great. Constantly attentive, yet not overbearing. I have never felt that I was stuck waiting on them, yet never thought to myself that I would love them to just leave me alone. That is an amazingly difficult balance and there are many places I think could take a page or two from their book. Third, the atmosphere is great. There is plenty of good light and the people that come to Three Freaks are reasonably normal. They are dog friendly, so it is not unusual to have a couple dogs there on a Friday evening and as expected, these dogs are well socialized and the owners are fine with you saying hello to their dog. Most days I have visited, Jeff (the owner) is there and along with being a perfectly pleasant human, is also a fount of knowledge regarding brewing and should you ask, will generally give you a good bit of knowledge regarding the brewing process. He is a real joy to talk with and I would consider him part of the overall experience. My last point is, manage your expectations. While this is a great nano-brewery that is not overly busy, realize that it is not a full service restaurant. As such, they do not have a liquor license, so no, they won't have mixed drinks. Also, they don't have a kitchen, so no regular food service (Egg Roll King (next door) and (on the weekends) food trucks in the lot will deliver food), so remember that. I'm a fan of the fact that the food trucks rotate so if you go over and over and over, you will end up with lots of different foods to eat with the delicious beers. read more

Visited for the first time today. The owner was great, indulging my son's curiosity. Beer was great! It was wonderful to see his passion and pride in his product. I'm looking forward to coming back to try new brews, such as the blonde and the IPA. Not worried about the cloudy beer. It works and adds character without taking away from the taste experience. I looked forward to the opening of 3 Freaks. I now have 5 micro breweries within 5 miles of my house. Jeff, the owner, has been there most of the times I have dropped by. He is great and enjoy talking to him about his business and the industry. My favorite beer of his regulars is the Red, however they are all very good. Part of the beauty of this is being able to taste many different types of beer and enjoy Jeff's spin on some favorites. Only 6 beers on tap and one was out, so only 5 to choose from and 3 were stouts. We tried the IPA (Yoga Pants) and the beer was flat. Claimed 119 IBUs, but there is no way. Hardly bitter or hoppy at all. Hard to get waited on (even though there were only 7 people in the place). WAY better breweries to visit, but had to at least give this one a shot. read more

Jeff is so humble and kind. Made our first experience here really fun and enjoyable. We tried a bunch of different drinks and were really happy with what we ended with. Prices are amazing. By far the best tasting brews in the area. I have tried many of the craft breweries in Denver and 3 freaks wins in regards to beer. The owner has been brewing long before it was "in" (over 30 years) . That expirence shows, because each beer regardless of type is delicious. No aftertaste, bite, or anything strange with each pour. I'm sorry 3 Freaks, I tried, I really did. The first time I was here I really loved the red. My fiance however was not as impressed so we hadn't been back. Unfortunately, this time we had the same problem as before, there just weren't many beers on tap. They had the red and a dubbel listed on the board, but unfortunately both said "coming soon". So I ended up resigning to a brown that was kinda "eh", and my partner in crime ordered the watermelon and had a few too many jolly rancher flashbacks to enjoy it. I think 3 Freaks has potential, however, they either need to figure out their production situation or work on some of their other beers to make sure they're great too, because at the end of the day you're really only judged on what I can actually get a pint of when I come in. read more

This has become my local Go-To place for a beer or three. Everyone who works there is super friendly and greets everyone who walks in the door with a smile and a hello. Jeff (The Owner) is always working on improving the beers and rolling out new ones as well finding what not only works well, but sells well. He works very hard to make sure that everyone enjoys their experience and their beers, and does whatever he can do to fix any issues that are brought to his attention as quickly as he can. The space is smaller than the cavernous spaces of Lone Tree and Blue Spruce in the area, but I personally prefer the smaller environment. Bonus or the food trucks that come and generally being kid friendly. My wife and I like to go and it's not always feasible to leave the little one at the house. She is happy watching some video on (Free) WiFi and eating pretzels while we have a beer. read more

It's been 24 hours since I left 3 Freaks and I really don't remember what I had. That's never a good sign, it just really wasn't a memorable place. Thankfully I didn't drink too much, I actually shared a flight with my friend so the issue isn't too much beer for my forgetfulness with this place. I remember one IPA, a stout, a pale ale and others in between and they were drinkable but nothing stood out. I'm usually one for neighborhood breweries and all about the local business but I wasn't feeling 3 Freaks. The staff was friendly but keep a distance and the space was small with uncomfortable seating so not somewhere where I would seek out and want to grab a beer. They did have a food truck outside so that's always a plus but the one there had a sleeve guy smoking outside the truck who I later saw cooking the food and that just felt dirty. Yay for checking off another brewery off my list but I don't really see myself coming back here again. read more

No, I'm done. A place that consistently serves beer that is completely undrinkable is not acceptable. Went here yesterday with a friend who had their Saison- we immediately were concerned when it came out cloudy and dark yellow. The taste was horrendous. She managed to choke down a few sips as I drank my incredibly weak Odd Man Stout (which continues to be the only drinkable, though far from great, beer here). We left as quickly as we could. I have no idea why anyone can think they serve good beer. Never again- it's the closest brewery to my house and I will never return. I'm done giving them chances to improve. They do have good service, but I don't go to breweries for service, I go for the beer and I have lost all faith in their ability to serve beer that is drinkable. read more

Love 3 Freaks! Great for Friday happy hour, when the food trucks visit and park right outside the store front. All the beers I have tried so far (usually porters, brown or red ales, and wheats) have been SO GOOD - and they are rotating them constantly, so there's always something new to try. I also love the dog-friendly, laid back atmosphere that typifies the Colorado brewing scene. Overall, 3 Freaks is just a great place to hang out and have a beer. I can't think of anything they could be doing better. read more

My experience at Three Freaks was just ok.... The beer was ok and the location/atmosphere was ok. The space inside is small and kind of dark due to it being in a strip mall. There isn't much outdoor seating, it's located next to a tattoo parlor so if you are sitting outside you hear the constant buzz of the gun. The beer tasted just ok, nothing too memorable. They get the 4th star due to the friendliness and hospitality of what I would guess was the owner as well as the bartender who constantly checked up on us and made sure we were taken care of. read more

Visited here for the first time today, and where to begin? I get that it's a small brewery, but that does not mean that the beer has to be poor quality. My three friends and I ordered 4 of the 5 beers available and could not believe the cloudiness of the beer. Never seen a non-homebrew do that. Aside from looks, the taste was awful. They all had a metallic bite that lead us all to believe that too much iodine had been used in sanitation. The only thing worse than the taste was the smell of this beer. We left four half empty beers on the table and settled up, not that the one employee there seemed to notice or care. Will not be back. read more

I have been to many breweries and have been brewing beer for 20+ years. I wish they waited to open, the beers lack in all categories. The IPA looked like mud, the other 3 choices were not much better, hopefully they will improve. They are located in a strip mall next to a tattoo shop, if you sit outside you get constant cigarette smoke from next door, not too pleasant. The best thing is the people that work there, they are very nice, but that does not compensate for the quality of the beer. If you want a good beer in that part of town stay with Lone Tree Brewery. I hope with time the beers improve, with 4 other breweries in the same area they rate the lowest when compare to LTB, Grist, 38 State Brewery, Blue Spruce. Good Luck, you can only get better.
