My husband and I were in the area- chilly evening, stuffy noses... we wanted noodles! Found 3 Times in the area- early dinner time, so the restaurant wasn't crowded so we were seated immediately. We ordered the crunchy noodles with pork, spicy beef noodle soup and pork soup dumplings. The crunchy noodles came out first- deep fried noodles topped with a thick gravy of pork, veggies and mushroom! The savory gravy had a tang to it, and made me think of hot and sour soup- it was good, but wish it came with more noodles. The spicy beef noodle soup came next- this was my favorite! Noodles had a good bounce (wish they were a tiny bit chewier) but the soup- this was what made it awesome. While spicy, it wasn't overpowering and was so aromatic and flavorful. We wolfed down to the last drop. The pork soup dumplings were the last to arrive to the table (steaming takes some time!) These were just okay- the soup was a bit too thin imho, and there was too much dough, so the meat to dough ratio was a bit off. I was craving some good scallion oil noodles, so I popped in here for a quick lunch after my dentist appointment, and it did not disappoint! I was seated right away and taken care of right away, which was nice. The scallion oil noodles weren't on the menu, but upon asking the waiter, he said he could make them. The waitstaff was very attentive and quick with their service. It came out fast and was the perfect temperature. I also got the vegetable spring rolls, which is always a classic. The restaurant is clean and has a nice amount of space in between each table, so it doesn't feel too crowded. Ordered (1) crab soup dumpling - 4 stars, lots of hot delicious broth inside each packet of heaven, but the wrapper is slightly thicker than Deluxe Green Bo version in Chinatown; (2) spicy wontons with shrimp and pork - 5 stars, fautlessly prepared, not drowning in red chili oil, you can taste the very fresh ingredients; (3) dan dan noodle - 5 star perfection, again, not drowning in chili oil, bits of ground pork and spinach enhance the flavor profile, the noodle is on the softer side (all the better for soaking up that yummy sauce) but still retains some chew; my compliments to the chef for achieving the ideal balance of flavor and texture in a perfectly executed dan dan noodle. Rankings from most to least favorite (however everything was good and I would order all of it again) -Pan fried pork buns: these were nice and crispy on the bottom with a soft bite into the dough on top. Filled with a flavorful meaty broth and there was a decent portion of meat inside -Shrimp wontons in chili oil: another delicious dish, the shrimp was flavorful and the skin was cooked perfectly -Pork soup dumplings: these were good, but they weren't the best soup dumplings I've had in the city (however I've tried a lot!). The skin could've been a little thinner and some of them ripped when we picked them up, but the flavor was all there -Pork rice dumpling: this is the same as sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. It's just a random Monday night and there weren't a lot of other tables maybe like 3 other parties when we got there at about 8:15. Upon sitting down the utensils and dishes at the table weren't super clean, just like marks on the glasses and the spoons and plates. My first gripe was the food - we got two pork soup dumplings and a chicken fried rice to share. The rice came so weirdly fast but it was so unsatisfying - it had celery and red onions which is random, and it was SUPER salty. Then the soup dumplings came after a while and they honestly looked and tasted like the Trader Joe's microwaveable ones. They were definitely not home made. The soup was like water. Then to make things worse, their closing time was 9:30 and it was like barely 8:45 and the waitress started spraying the table next to us with cleaning solution like WHAT. As we're eating?? However, my problem is the last time we ordered my vegggie spring roll had a hard (like a stone) foreign object inside. I'm just glad I didn't break a tooth on it. See picture. First, I selected soup dumplings that were buy one, get one free, and the order only deliver one portion. Second, I ordered the larger soup and around 1/3 was missing from the container. Prior to covid, the Dishes were all super authentic and had excellent xiao long bao and sheng jian bao, Chocolate Xiao Long Bao and all sorts of typical shanghai dishes. I decided to go yesterday after a while They re-did the menu, most of the typical shanghai dishes are gone. Now they have your typical stupid general tso's chicken and all of your typical americanized chinese foods that you can find everywhere. The quality of the food also went downhill, the xiaolongbao skin is now too thick and the shrimp wonton barely has any shrimp in it. The Shengjianbao had no juice inside of it whatsoever, it is supposed to have alot of broth inside. Not going back. read more

Unfortunately the buns were just okay and did not satisfy my craving - the skin was not quite thick enough, the bottoms not quite fried enough, and there was barely any juice inside. They tasted closer to regular dumplings than Fried Pork Buns. The search continues. The soup, with not quite as high a bar to cross, was good and satisfying. Towards the kitchen, you can see the staff cooking and making the hand pulled noodles. I ordered the seafood fried rice ($15) and was told it would be shrimp with crab meat. I was assuming actual crab meat but, was given a few flakes of intimation crab meat instead. The rice itself was bland and had no flavor. I requested some additional soy sauce and hot oil and that really spiced up the flavor profile. Farabe ordered the Shanghai fried noodles with chicken ($13). The noodles were delicious with the perfect amount of chew and saltiness. I would definitely come back again to eat this. The service was okay. They were efficient but, not really friendly. I'm not too sure whether this is a family run restaurant, but the younger gentleman there has to learn about what you actually sell. I asked specific questions about dishes and at 1st he was super helpful, but then everything went South when there was a shoe sale at 1 of the resellers on the block. I was told there was jumbo shrimp in an item and it was actually the fishy little baby shrimp. No thank you. Thankfully the older employee got the dish fixed appropriately with a substitution. It also took a significant amount of time to get the bill and to actually and to actually remit payment. Despite the weird little occurrences I will come back because the food was so good. Just happened to be in soho and this placed popped up on yelp. I wasn't very impressed with their customer service to be honest. Everything they say to you is blunt and almost rude. The noodles were over cooked, it wasn't even spicy, and the meat was tough. 2/10 If you get anything from this place, it's the braised pork belly with buns. A spin off of peking duck, this was something I'd come back for. The caramelized sauce that the pork sits in is amazing and pairs well with the buns. 9.5/10 You also get a free milk tea when you check in but they gave me a lychee green tea instead. My friend got the passion fruit green tea and both were very sweet. I used to work at a boba place and know that they used 2 ounces of syrup when they should really stick to just 1. I was at this place a month ago. They follow Covid protocols properly as expected for most places in the area. The service was fine; polite in prompt; and they refilled the water when necessary. I decided to go with two dishes which I have had in several over Shanghainese places, stir fried rice cakes and pan fried dumplings. 雪菜肉絲炒年糕/Stir fried rice cake with mustard greens and pork. $12.95 Listed as fried rice cakes with mustard and shredded pork, this was a tasty version with a couple minor faults. The pork was properly cooked and there was a good amount of said meat along with the good amount of mustard greens. The portion size in short was adequate for the price. I personally like this dish a lot for the texture and my only complaint is that in many other places I've had this, the rice cakes were a bit crispier. In other words, I found the texture to be a bit too soft for my liking but this might just be a preference and overall it was still very tasty. The dish is also available with chicken, beef, or seafood. 生煎饅頭/Shengjian bao or pan fried dumplings filled with pork. Listed as Shanghai fried pork buns, this came with 4 to an order which was fine for the price (for the area.) The dumplings were nice and light though I prefer the bottom to be a bit crispier (I see a trend here with my complaints.) The pork filling was very tasty, moist, and generous and I have no complaints. I also got some of the chili oil to have with it which is fine though nothing notable. Outside of the lack of crispiness for the dishes which is more of a personal complaint, I don't have many issues. This is a good Shanghainese spot and it is nice to see a good one pretty close to Union Square. The service was prompt and friendly. I make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in the city because I really enjoy the food here. On the many occasions I have been here the restaurant is never busy so there's never a wait, but they are always swarmed in takeout orders. I usually order the exact same thing from I've stumbled upon this place months ago, so take my word for the items only listed below as I haven't tried anything else the countless of times I've been here lol.
