claypot rice with chinese sausage and roast duck
    Juls X.

the host/server lacked customer skills - it was almost funny. i'm very used to different customer service standards from living in china so yeah don't expect stellar service here if you're used to america standards. you scan the qr code to view menu and place your order there. it was 4pm when i ordered the claypot rice and it arrived 30 min later with some pickled carrots and daikon. i asked for a box but the server didn't give me a plastic bag. it was raining outside too. i was too lazy to ask again so i just left. food was decent, the rice could've been cooked longer so it was more crispy. it was a good size portion for $20, but ive had better.

Got takeout from here and thought the food was only ok. I got a chicken curry claypot rice and Taiwanese braised pork rice. The one really cool thing is that even for takeout you get the actual claypot, which is awesome as it keeps the food super hot. Unfortunately, I didn't find the food particularly good. The chicken curry had way too much rice and not enough toppings, and the braised pork rice's flavor didn't quite tastes right.

The rice bowls here were really good! I got the rice extra crispy. It's a bit expensive for the amount of toppings you get, but the flavor and taste were great. Very chill ambiance and low key area to catch up with friends.

This place is very low key. Soothing music. The rice balls are delicious, much more flavorful that a typical ongiri. I had the hot vegan and it was almost like eating a fried rice that was then formed into a large triangle. Don't expect fancy but do expect good food! Broth bowl is huge and very brothy and the soba noodles takes more like egg noodles without any bitterness. Super flavorful!

I was a big fan of the clay pot restaurant on St Mark's place, which closed due to the Covid pandemic and never reopened. The clay pot here isn't quite the same: as far as I can tell they don't cook the rice from scratch over a flame which resulted in a crunchy, toasty--but sometimes burnt--crust. That said, if you add the soy based sauce and stir the rice it does get pleasantly crunchy. And that combo of soy sauce and ginger threads which are added to the (perfectly cooked) rice was very very tasty. I had the chicken and the shrimp as the two proteins (asked them to hold the egg and tofu). Both were tender and flavorsome. Server and manager were both very friendly. Don't be put off by the tacky plastic street side enclosure covered with pics of menu items. The inside is actually quite pleasant and cute.

My fiancé heard of this spot, and we decided to try it out for the clay pot. In addition to trying the signature claypot, we also got the Taiwanese crispy salted chicken and the Liu Zhou Luosi rice noodle. All in all, the food was really good and filling. I especially enjoyed the crispy chicken - very crunchy and flavorful. The restaurant itself is fairly small, with only a few staff members around when we stopped by. But the decor was nice, and there is a good amount of seating. The ordering process was also very efficient, mostly handled on tablets and via QR codes. This spot is definitely a nice, casual Cantonese restaurant, and would recommend that folks stop by to try it out.

Solid lunch spot in the East village!!! Would definitely come back again. Interior is very clean and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I got the original clay pot and got to choose 2 different proteins - I chose chicken and salmon and both were delicious. Comes with nice and buttery rice underneath.

always looking for new places to try post-sunday service and was happy to visit @rice_bird_nyc a few months ago. i decided to try the ($23.99) which includes eel, beef, chicken, shrimp, and salmon (as well as broccoli, tofu, scallions, ginger, and marinated egg). i liked the variety of proteins in the dish, and the sauce that they gave added even more flavor. the price is pretty steep compared to my other go-to claypot rice place, but i am thankful for the additional option. service was a little slow on the day we went in but we weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal. friends ordered the rice balls, which were fun to try as well.

I saw the other reviews about good service and delicious food and was excited to try this place out. here's my experience: I walk in to an empty and dead silent restaurant. I said hello to the two men sitting in the back, one younger and one older. I wasn't greeted, and they were staring at me like they were genuinely mad at me. I told them I had an order to pick up. the younger one looks at my phone, looks at the old guy, grabs the food. he hands it off to me and sits back down. so strange! I ordered off of TooGoodToGo, and the food they decided to give me was.. not great. i'm not sure what either of the soups are but they both smell sour. the noodles are gummy, and the protein (chicken? pork? i don't know) is like leather. and there's also tater tots? which are shockingly the only edible part of my grab bag.

Rice Bird has the same head chef and workers from my favorite restaurant, Clay Pot, that was closed during covid. I could never find a good clay pot in the city after Clay Pot closed down until now! The menu is pretty much the same with some various new appetizers and other dishes. They currently have a buy 1 claypot get 1 free appetizer, which is a steal. My friend got the spicy chicken wings and I got the soy garlic shrimp which we both enjoyed. For my claypot, I got the shrimp and salmon. I used my favorite sweet sauce on top that they use to have at Clay Pot, delicious! The rice could have been crisper, but I told the head chef and he said he'll make sure to make it crisper next time. You order at the front at a kiosk and then sit down so the process is very simple. Location is great and the inside has AC, but no bathroom. Very cute ambiance and it was so great seeing familiar faces including my favorite server, Eric. Please come visit and support the business especially if you've missed eating a good claypot!!!

This restaurant is part of the Chase Sapphire reserve dining credits! We had read reviews and had an idea of what we wanted to get, but also spoke with the waitress on her recommendations and ultimately went with: Pork dumplings Salt & Pepper chicken Tiger shrimp with walnuts Oyster mushroom rice noodles Snow pea shoots I think my favorite was the oyster mushroom rice noodles with steak. The rice noodles were so silky and the flavor was good. The salt and pepper chicken was also super crispy and very juicy and tender on the inside and whatever sauce that came on the side of it is so addicting. The tiger shrimp was also good, though the menu said it came with a romanesco cauliflower, but the dish was served with broccoli. The snow pea shoots are one of my favorite vegetable dishes and, in my opinion, was just a little overcooked and doesn't need the garlic oyster sauce that comes on top. It's such a cute restaurant and you can open the vending machine door and grab a surprise treat on your way out!
