Bread, cookies, and pastries are all showcased and it smells great. If you go during the afternoon during the week it won't be as crowded as it can get on the weekend. Everything here is terrific. Whenever I'm in the area I'll bring home a pound of assorted Italian cookies, I'll also grab rainbow cookies and cannolis. Their cannolis are terrific, some of the best in NY. Yes, NY, not just NYC. I think what makes their cannoli stand out amongst some of the best is their shell. It's always fresh and crispy. Their filling is a little more vanilla forward compared to other NY institutions version of the cannoli, so keep that in mind when trying one. I'll put it to you this way, if you like Italian pastries, especially cannolis make this place a destination to visit, give them a try and see how it ranks up compared to your favorites. And while you're there, take in the rest of Arthur Ave! Oh, I almost forgot. They have what my husband says are the best savoiardi cookies in the state. Went to pickup a Cheesecake late in the afternoon in August 2026, after S&S was closed, after seeing the closed sign at S&S proceeded to the Bodega, I politely asked the employee, where I could find the S&S Cheesecakes that they sell, a very rude employee barked at me with a response that I did not understand, after that uncomfortable response, I looked behind me and noticed an unmarked freezer in the middle of the store, I went over and opened it up, and amongst a bunch of random unrelated items I noticed what appeared to be a few Cheesecakes. I pulled one out and asked another employee if this was a plain cheesecake and did they have any with toppings or fruit, once again I was responded to, with a very angry and rude tone of voice that I could not understand. No Cheesecake is worth the trip to the Bronx to deal with very rude employees, that made the purchase transaction awkward and for a small 7" plain frozen Cheesecake at $30 a very poor experience, also no options as far as toppings or bigger sizes available. If you can make it to the actual S&S Cheesecake when they are open during their limited hours then it is totally worth it. However, as a long time lover of S&S Cheesecake who used to live blocks away as a kid in the 70's, and now I live in CA and have visited S&S many times over the years while visiting family in Manhattan and Long Island, the past few times I have been unable to squeeze in the time to make it to the Bronx during their business hours and started going to the Bodega during and the subsequent years after COVID-19, and have been highly disappointed in the rude and overly nasty employees as well as the lack of quality in the frozen Cheesecakes, each of the times, dealing with the Bodega.
