Wow, what a great find. I love how instead of letting an old school decay, they turned it into a restaurant- what a great concept. My wife ordered the mahi-mahi, I ordered scallops and shrimp-both we phenomenal! My favorite appetizer is definitely the green fried tomatoes. We also tried the calamari, which was okay, but nothing special. We even did dessert and the chocolate cake was very tasty. What a delightful surprise for lunch. Very unassuming spot from the outside- a restored high school- using the old cafeteria space. We stopped on the way to a family reunion in NC. It exceeded expectations, from decor, service and the food was amazing! The ladies got house salad (added protein of choice) and my boyfriend got the fried catfish. It was some of the best catfish I've ever had and I ended up eating off of his plate, regretting my salad! We had no idea this place was tucked away in an old school, but we were so blown away by how cute this place was! The food was great and the staff was so welcoming too. Stayed in south hill because we couldn't get a room in Clarksville due to lake fest. And I'm so happy otherwise we wouldn't have found this jewel. Everything was amazing. My husbands Tenderloin was fatty and tough . He couldn't even chew it . Mine was suppose to be Medium but it was well done . Because I sent my G & T back for being sweet ( Never have I ever had a sweet G&T made with Sapphire Gin ) My husband didn't want to complain about the food . Came here during a business trip, and was not disappointed! I orders the roasted red pepper soup to start, and it was probably the best soup I've ever had. This is a must stop for foodies. We had the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese for an appetizer. It was amazing. Then the avocado salad and BLT salads for entries which included homemade dressings. Very fresh and tons of flavor. Lastly we had the brown sugar pie. You must save room for dessert. The pie alone is worth the trip. The service was so attentive and very mindful of wearing masks and being safe during the coronavirus. Great bar and Bloody Mary too. Interesting place. Created out of an old school (class rooms are now apartments) the atmosphere is open and airy albeit loud. The menu has something for everyone and the food is consistent the 3x I've been there. A specials menu along with specialty cocktails gives it a little extra. The last time we were there a gentleman was near the front door playing saxophone - loud but super ambiance all around. Service can be a little slow but that's expected at every restaurant today, but not a show stopper. My SO and I have eaten here twice now. Both times the food was quite good and th service very good. Neither time did we come with a reservation so we were seated as best the staff could manage. On a recent lake trip with friends, my bf and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at this restaurant. We ordered steak, some sort of Cajun pasta, salad, crab dip and the calamari on special for that night. Everything was delicious, with the calamari being the one mishap. It was severely overcooked. I still decided to give them 5 stars because as an out-of-towner, my restaurant searches for the area yielded fairly dismal results, so I was very thankful to find this place. read more

What an incredible new restaurant on historic Franklin Street in South Hill. The old renovated elementary school cafeteria plays host to South Hill's newest restaurant. Love the old photos and the 'old school tile' with the fresh modern look. Menu is outstanding with a great variety of dishes. We also enjoyed the fresh drink menu with all drinks prepared with a twist of freshly squeezed fruit. The bar is a great place to visit for a cocktail while you wait for your seat if you come during the dinner rush. Don't forget to finish your visit with some homemade pie, my son recommends the lemon chess! Hats off to the Hayes' and their remodel of the old school to the new lifts and restaurant. This was the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Do not go here save yourself the trouble I beg you. I work as a server and have traveled to several places on the east coast and in VA specifically and this restaurant was THE WORST I've been to. I'm a very nice person just to give some context. I'm not a Karen and I'm extremely forgiving when things get messed up. I went here with my boyfriend today 6/10/21 when we arrived we were sat immediately as we had been checked in on the list 30 min prior to arrival as there was a small 15-30 wait. Our waitress Shemeka was incredibly sweet and understanding and if you decide to bravely go eat here I recommend her. To make a long story short, the filet I ordered was burnt on the outside and tender on the inside. It tasted like charcoal and salt just awful. Since I've worked in a restaurant for many years, I know this much to be true that the cook clearly turned the grill up very high and flipped it charring the outside and leaving the inside tender but flavorless. This means they either have very little experience or they got overwhelmed and forgot about my steak and tried to make it as quickly as possible. When Shemeka initially asked if everything was okay I said yes having not taken a bite of my steak yet and very shortly after that the manager Scott asked the same thing I again said yes as again I had just received my food. However, once I took a bite and my boyfriend took a bite I did not eat the rest of the steak. 20 min went by before anyone came back again so I did eat the asparagus even though it tasted way too salty because I was hungry and had been in the car all day. We also had the crab dip which was great but not very filling as it's just an appetizer, but as soon as I saw Scott again I told him what was wrong. He asked if I wanted another I said no, some time passed and Shameka came back and informed us that my steak would be half priced. I nodded at her, she walked away, and then I decided there was no way I was paying $17 (aka half the price of the $34 filet) for asparagus and a small salad. I asked if I could speak to her manager again and when he came back I explained that I work in a restaurant myself and understand things happen but that I didn't eat the steak therefore I should not have to pay $17 for sides. He gave me a nasty attitude said "if you'd let me finish I'll explain that when I came by before everything was fine. Then you ate half the meal now everything isn't fine" I said "Excuse me, no one came over for 20 min so because I hadn't tasted the steak yet and deduced it was bad quick enough that means I should pay $17 worth of sides for a steak I barely ate 2 bites of? Is it not common practice for you to simply take the meal off?" He responded with "For most places yes but well I'll take some more off and you can just pay for the sides would that be okay?" Before I could answer he left again and when he came back I said point blank that I wasn't paying for a meal 1) I didn't eat and 2) I didn't enjoy. He snatched the receipt off the table and said "I'll take it off to make you happy." I was shocked he spoke to me that way after putting me through all of that just to comp a meal his cooks messed up. Scott came back through again threw the receipt on the table and said "have a good day." And kept walking. I've read many reviews and I know many of you would've reacted much worse than I did. When Shemeka returned I told her what happened and she looked shocked, I asked her if there was another manager I could speak to she said yes and went to go get what I presume to be the kitchen manager. Her name escapes me unfortunately but she came out and after I explained what happened she said "well other than what he already did I can't do much else. I'm sorry that things weren't fixed quickly enough for you." I responded "No ma"am that wasn't the problem. I'm not a bitch or someone who normally complains. I can clearly see you all are busy and that is completely fine. But my steak wasn't cooked right and the way he treated me is absolutely ridiculous. Is he the owner or is someone above him?" She said there is no one above him apologized and went on her way. I have come to here to WARN you all do not go here. They are clearly a small restaurant and answer to no one but themselves so they can't be held responsible or accountable. After telling my friend Makayla who is the bride in the wedding what happened she told me she had never heard good things about 313 Franklin and I should have told her where we were going before we went and she could have warned me!! So anyways, I am warning you if anything is wrong with your food this is how they handle it. They will make it out to be your fault. Scott is an asshole and if this is how he treats guests I can't imagine working here. Don't go here! read more
