We were looking for a last minute reservation at a steakhouse on a Friday evening for our group of 6 and this was the only place with available. We called to get the dress code and was advised that is pretty causal, but asked that people don't come in their pajamas (huh?!). Apparently since it's located in the hotel, guest come down in their pj's. This didn't discourage us... we were hungry after a day of running around. We were greeted immediately by valet upon pulling up in the parking lot and seated pretty quickly once inside: The service was spectacular! They were attentive and funny. (I love when someone can make me laugh). The drink I had was strong (I don't remember the name, but I like getting my dollars worth). I ordered the pork chop for my entrée. The ambiance is almost like an upscale bar, nothing too extravagant. Food/drinks: the cucumber breeze was really good. It reminds me of freshly pressed cucumber juice. I could not taste the alcohol at all; it was refreshing. We started with the crab cakes. The menu described them in a completely different way than they were presented-- the outside was very breaded, almost like a boudin ball, but not over-fried to where the crab was minimal. It was interesting, but not bad. As an entree I had the 14 oz. ribeye accompanied by shrimp and sides of a baked potato and asparagus. The shrimp were large and decently flavored, the baked potato was superb, and the asparagus was so charred, it was almost inedible. The steak....was mediocre at best! I've had a better steak at Longhorn. Service: our server was pleasant but not overly attentive. This wasn't an issue, though. Mac and cheese is not worth the up-charge, not cheesy enough in my opinion. Everything else though was delicious and excellent. It's conveniently located in the bottom of Hotel Duval, so I usually come here when I stay. However, they got rid of the credit they usually give you when you do book the hotel. A group of four went to 347 Grille. First and foremost, it should be known that we made a reservation, but the night we went - it really was not necessary. Your mileage may vary. That said, we started off with sparkling water. Some in our party had wine, beer, and the like - I did not, so I cannot comment there. Complimentary bread was brought out, and from there, we ordered our mains. Scallops, fish, steak, even lobster graced our table. Richard was our waiter. He made recommendations and was attentive without being annoying. As for our mains, cannot say anything except about mine, which was the lobster and it was a generous portion. I had two meals out of it. I had to stop myself from eating more admittedly, as my companions wanted dessert. I tried a couple of spoonfuls of each chocolate dessert. They were rich. One was a chocolate cake slice, the other a chocolate sundae. Key lime pie was also ordered, but I didn't bother as I'm not a fan. At any rate, the dinner was a pleasant experience. Oh my goodness this place is bad! "347" is a big zero. 2 stars only because our server was pleasant and polite albeit not overly skilled. Otherwise, hyper-slow service all night (only 3 tables occupied on a Sunday evening - would hate to see a busy night) and substandard food at best. My pork chop was tough, over-cooked and dry. The Filet medallions were ordered medium rare and served basically raw, like Pittsburgh rare. Risotto was under-cooked and crunchy. The appetizers were no better. The Tuna Tartare was sitting in a pool of oily matter and the Spinach and Artichoke dip was dry and burnt. Oh and half way through our entrees they delivered our bread basket that they had been promising since they sat us. No small plates with the appetizers - guess we were supposed to eat off the table. Some of the "Shula Cut" steaks on the menu are insanely over priced - $130 for a 22oz? That price would be expected at a world class, New York style steakhouse prepared by grill masters, but this place is clearly incapable of even executing the BASICS. AVOID! read more

Shula's adds an automatic 20% gratuity for all diners no matter what the size of the group. According to their website this is to "hold their servers accountable"! I REALLY don't see how a guaranteed 20% tip regardless of the service received holds anyone accountable. Except the customer. The hostess at the front was as dumb as a box of rocks and unable to not only count the correct number of menus she needed, but moved slower than a turtle to take us to our table. Our waiter did OK, but the food is so overpriced and did not come out together nor was it correct and cooked properly. When I asked for a manager, he eventually sauntered over on his own sweet time and then just said there was nothing he could do. I would never dine in here again and that manager needs training and empathy on how to make things right which he had no interest in doing. A very poorly run restaurant, which is surprising based on the name and reputation. The hotel offered a voucher for this restaurant so I gave it a shot for dinner. I ordered a caesar salad to come out before the meal, plus crab cakes with broccoli and pea risotto as an entree. The crab cakes had lots of meat and were were delicious. Broccoli was good and the risotto was very good. The salad did not arrive before my meal. When my server, Luis, realized this, the manager (I forgot to learn her name) offered to comp much more of my bill then she really needed to. First let me say we are huge Shula's fans and regulars at the Orlando location. This location didn't quite live up to the hype. The prices didn't make any sense. For example, they had an 8 ounce filet for $69 but 9 ounce filet medallions for $44. Does a steak not being cut in medallion form justify a 56% increase in price? Not to mention, the prices were even higher than the Disney location. When Disney is the "cheaper" alternative, something has gone horribly wrong with your pricing. Also, any Shula's fan will tell you that the iconic sourdough bread is arguably the highlight of the experience. It's the best bread in the history of restaurants. But this location didn't even have that. The bread they did have was by request only. Final strike against them: parking was valet only with no validation! Pretty sure no one in the world likes valet parking except people who work for valet parking companies. Not terrible, just short of the Shula standard. If you're not a rapacious lobbyist who is in Tallahassee because you earn big bucks swindling the public, this place is probably hard to afford. read more

Shula would not be happy! This was one of the worst experiences I've had at any steakhouse, period. To begin, per my picture, the dining room looks more like a roadside Diner, not a $$$ Restaraunt. The shrimp cocktail was served with barely a drizzle of cocktail sauce, the filet was average at best, the mashed potatoes were runny and literally coated the plate about 1/8" think and mushrooms I just didn't care for...and on top of it they didn't credit me for the $25 hotel voucher provided. Just another reason to set out into the community and try the local hot spots vs the convenience of in hotel dining. First time in Tallahassee not starting out so great. read more

So disappointing.... Have been a few times during our son's time at FSU. Wanted to take our son for a special meal, and this was anything but special. We had a 7:30 reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered drinks and had a nice waiter, although he didn't have a lot of experience in what I thought was an upscale restaurant. My son was the only one to order an appetizer because my husband and I wanted to be hungry for our main course. We were having drinks as my son was eating his French onion soup and it seemed out of no where, my main course was put in front of me. I wondered if my husband and son's food was coming, when my husband's ribeye was placed in front of him. My son got his scallops and they were COLD! We tried to get Lucas' attention but he was going through the menu with other guests. Finally he came over and we told him that my husband would need a steak knife to eat, we would both like to have wine with our meal (we wanted to get a bottle, but now was too late!), and more importantly, our son's meal was actually cold. They took it back and apologized and gave him the same plate, and it was again cold. My son was horrified and wanted to just eat it but we explained that this is not acceptable when dining at an expensive restaurant. We convinced him to send it back again, and he got the same plate and this time it was warm. Meanwhile, our food was not as hot, we got a glass of wine at the end, and it was not the dining experience that a $375.00 bill would reflect. I don't write reviews often, but this specific Shula location deserves recognition. I travel quite a bit and I do my best to avoid both hotel restaurants and chains. Shula fell into both categories so my expectations weren't high. However - first and foremost was the service. Angel has been working as a bartender here for more than half a decade and anyone can tell he truly enjoys what he does. If you're paying upwards of $15 for wine or a cocktail you want it to be great. Angel described everything perfectly from the most popular drinks to the most unique. He truly wants you to be happy with your cocktail or if you are choosing a wine from their large selection he was very helpful with suggesting food pairings. I ended up having a dirty martini because Angel said it was one of his favorites and the woman next to me at the bar was thoroughly enjoying hers. A dirty martini and blue cheese stuffed olives is usually a great start to a dinner and this was no exception. After deliberating about the menu for quite a while I had narrowed down some questions. I am on a budget and a premiere steakhouse was not where I intended to end up but options at 9pm on a Sunday were slim so I opted for one of the less expensive options; grilled fish sandwich and a side (I had a loaded baked potato). The fish was a grilled or blackened snapper that they offered to prepare skin off for me since I was nervous about having to take it off myself. The portion of fish was very large, meaty, and the remoulade sauce was perfect. The loaded baked potato was a meal in itself and I didn't intend to finish either but it was too good to take home I'm a takeout box. Back to the service; because I truly believe this is why you should visit. I sat at the bar myself; my norm; but I never felt like I was alone. Angel ran a clean, efficient, comfortable bar while also attending to tables and preparing drinks. The Assistant Manager, Nate, checked on everyone's drinks and meals and truly wanted to make their experience great. Please remember I sat down on a Sunday at 9pm and as I was finishing food just after 10pm they were happy to accommodate me to stay as they were clearing up. Even if you are someone who avoids chains, you should make Shula at Hotel Marriott: Automatic Collection in Tallahassee part of your plans. Everyone is struggling during this time, but it was so clear that quality and work ethic have not dwindled here. Trust me that even with the price tag (and as someone who doesn't eat any red meat) this is a place you will want to visit and enjoy. Weird waiter who crouches down at your table while taking your order. It's far too familiar and inappropriate for supposed "fine dining." But this is nothing near fine dining. Steak over cooked (same as last time) and a new scallop dish they were trying was inedible. Yesterday was my 4th time. It is not a cheap place to eat but it is the best quality in Tally. Service: every single time I go with my family the service is top notch. Came to this restaurant as I was staying in the hotel. I entered the establishment and was seated at the bar. After looking at the menu I placed an order for the house burger. I was then told by the gentlemen next to me to not order it as his was well overcooked and took 50 mins to arrive. Taking his experience I avoided the burger and ordered a chicken sandwich. After about 15minutes my entree arrived. I noticed it did not have the side of ranch that I had ordered it with. After waiting for some time for the bartender to acknowledge me, I asked again for the side of ranch. She then left the bar to which I thought she was going to get the side of ranch. We'll, let me tell you she definitely did not go to get the ranch. As she returned 26 minutes later! Now that my food was cold I asked her for now a third time for this ranch. She then left and delivered a side of ranch with ranch on her finger............ There was clearly something going on personally with this bartender as she was crying at the bar during my time there. I completely understand we all go thru personal things. But when it's affecting your work, it's time to take a step back and time off. Overall there was no attention spent on bar patrons. If you need anything you must get their attention and ask/ hope they will get it to you. My cocktail glass sat empty the entire time I had my meal. The icing on the cake is that there is an automatic 20% gratuity placed on your bill. Heck if I knew I was going to get tipped no matter what I would be the type of bartender located at this establishment. My wife and I traveled to Tallahassee to purchase a property for our daughters that are attending Florida A&M University. When we walked in the manager said hello in a really weird way then seated the guest that came in after us first!!! Every time I come here food is awesome! Last visit I ordered the scallops with risotto and risotto was over cooked and was very mushy, but they was my only complaint of the night. All other food, apps and entrees were cooked perfectly! We started with the loaded fries, calamari, and spinach and artichoke dip which took a while to come out (busy Saturday night) but were awesome! The complimentary cheesecake for my husbands birthday was also delicious! My only complaint is that the service was slow. When I'm at a restaurant that's expensive and automatically applies 20% gratuity, I expect to have exceptional service. Once we got our food, we waited awhile for drink refills. Little blonde girl tried not to seat us because a party of 5 was a "big party" and 8pm and told us we needed to be out by 10 even though they close at 11 on a Sunday night, was very rude and on our way out at 10:09pm we said bye to her to be nice and she replied "yeah" with a rude demeanor and ugly face while we walked out. We experienced another excellent happy hour and dinner at 347 Grille by Coach Shula. We come here often on Friday's, and always enjoy the delicious food and relaxing ambience. For starters, we enjoyed the warm and tasty French bread slathered with copious amounts of fresh butter. We recently went here for my son's college graduation. We were a party of 9 and there were 3 tables in the room and the other 2 tables were parties of 10. We waited around 30 minutes before anyone ever even came to the table. The poor waiter was working all 3 tables with no help whatsoever. We finally got to order and it took over an hour for our food to get there. My husband and my son's steak was overcooked but they didn't send it back because they didn't know when they were going to eat. My baked potato was cold. I was too afraid to ask anyone else because I was embarrassed. We were there for 3 1/2 hours and only ate dinner, no dessert! A night that should have been a huge celebration, became a real let down. Visited this place on a Sunday around 8pm. Their was many empty tables but I had a reservation just in case. They have a valet parking only and the restaurant would validate it for you. The food was very standard and felt just another franchise (chili's, Friday's etc...) we started out with the tomato bisque which was the best thing we had here. Next went with the crispy ravioli which is basically felt more like mozzarella sticks but ravioli shaped. For main dishes we shared the filet mignon and the crab cakes. The filet mignon was good because it's a filet mignon and really hard to ruin it. The crab cake were average. The sweet potatoes had a lot of salt that we couldn't eat it all. For some weird reason my wife wanted to eat dessert so I went along. We ordered the carrot cake. Again good but nothing special.
