We recently went here for my son's college graduation. We were a party of 9 and there were 3 tables in the room and the other 2 tables were parties of 10. We waited around 30 minutes before anyone ever even came to the table. The poor waiter was working all 3 tables with no help whatsoever. We finally got to order and it took over an hour for our food to get there. My husband and my son's steak was overcooked but they didn't send it back because they didn't know when they were going to eat. My baked potato was cold. I was too afraid to ask anyone else because I was embarrassed. We were there for 3 1/2 hours and only ate dinner, no dessert! A night that should have been a huge celebration, became a real let down. (Key lime pie or cheesecake) Our server was Christian, he was so polite and constantly checking up on us. He let us know about the specials and was able to bring us anything we needed with a smile on his face. Excellent steakhouse in Tallhassee. Located in the first floor of the Duval hotel, this place is a great place to celebrate an event ot just a nice dinner. The food and service was fantastic. the pan seared shrimp appetizer was so good, I would almost consider it an entry as the quality of the preparation was outstanding. All the steaks are fantastic and the Shula's Cut is the best options to order. I had the 14 ounce ribeye and it was perfect. Valet parking is in the back of the hotel and this place will satisfy any steak or seafood lover. read more

I've been twice. Service and feel is that of a high end steak house. The steaks are okay, but nothing to write home about. Salt, pepper and butter are classic seasonings and nothing presented through either meal really draws me back to the table. They do comp the valet parking, which is nice. And when done, there is a great lounge up on the 8th floor of the hotel to patronize, so makes going a little more exciting. read more

I was charged 238 for a cold rubber short rib meal. The only thing I liked was the wine. I traveled 4 hours from Tampa to go to this restaurant and the service was horrible. I was rushed out with my son on Thanksgiving Day. We weren't even half done with our food and they were rushing us out for a $238 check and the food wasn't worth 40 bucks. Well we visited world famous Shula's! What a disappointment!!! I've NEVER paid so much for so little quality in food. This restaurant is OVER RATED to say the very least. Ok this place is alright but I think it's over priced for the quality. I had the cowboy + mash + collard greens. It was good but not special. Desert creme Brûlée was good also. Espresso was meh bitter and no spume like they really don't know espresso. This might be the best place for a steak in Tallahassee but compared to many places across the world (see my reviews) it is average at best. This restaurant is for real and so I won't even use my Tallahassee handicap rating scale to review it (It would be a 5 Star rating using that scale). Shula's holds its own compared to the big boys in big towns (Pacific Dining Car, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, etc.), and didn't disappoint us even though we've come to expect less in this city. Actually, the contrary is true - we were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service and the wonderful food. The steak Caesar salad I ordered was very tasty and the sirloin tips were almost as tender as filet mignon (and rare just as ordered). My girlfriend ordered the seared tuna salad, which we've found to be risky in this area, but it was fantastic! The tuna was definitely sushi grade and didn't have the suspicious fishy smell of stuff that's been sitting around a day or two too long. Decor is dark but cosmopolitan with tasteful (?) football themed accents. (Think romantic, clubby, and owned by a rich football guy.) Definitely recommended. read more

Maitre d' sat us in a both on the north wall. Waiter was prompt and courteous. At the entrance, the coordinator was cheerful and polite. Smooth F&B operation throughout. Tenderloin tips, yum. Seared crust and soft inside - so good! My only complaint was that part of the order was medium well, not medium as requested. The tomato and mozzarella chopped salad, only ok. The only real downer were the tomatoes, which had no real flavor. Finally decided to try this gem and so glad we did! We arrived a little early for our reservation and they were ready for us. They took us to our table which had a cute Happy Anniversary sign on it. If you don't live in the Tallahassee, FL area, then come visit and we will show you the ropes. Shula's in Tallahassee, FL is located inside the historic Hotel Duval hotel. The bonus for going to Shula's is whether you are staying at Hotel Duval or not, your parking is usually complimentary. Valet is provided. Bring your valet parking pass and any hostess, server, or bartender can validate your pass for free parking. The reason for my two visits at Shula's was both business related. Learning new medications on the market with good ambiance at a great place, puts the cherry on top of any evening. When I first arrived, the hostess both greeted and opened the door for all guests coming in. I felt that was special. Seating was not a issue for me because I have a habit of always arriving early to any event, so I'm not interpreting introductions or being disrespectful. Seating did not take long at all. The most I had to wait was 10 minutes due to set up. The presentation was held in their large party room. Aaron was our server and he did a great job taking everyone's order in a timely fashion. The best part of the experience was he was quiet like a mouse. I ordered the Salmon because I wasn't eating me during that period. I know, I know, why eat fish at a steak restaurant. I will say the steak smelled and presented delicious. I am going to make it a priority to go to Shula's a 3rd time. The venue is not big but has a lot of historical time pieces on the décor. Our presentation lasted about one hour, but the whole experience was to die for. I can't wait to go back and try the Porterhouse. If you are visiting or are a local, come try this great place out. I will start off by saying that I didn't get a steak, which apparently is why this place has been given so many rave reviews. I got the Caesar salad, the pecan-crusted salmon, and creme brûlée dessert. Caesar salad was wilted and drenched in dressing. (See my pic) Don't order it. Salmon was tasty, but a bit too salty. Creme brûlée was good, but nothing special. Overall, the food was average, but it was incredibly overpriced. So overpriced that I most likely won't return despite our great service. Service was impeccable beginning with valet when you pull up, to the warm and welcoming hostess, and the quick and efficient service by our waitress. We ordered a few appetizers - the shrimp cocktail is always a good choice. I really enjoyed the spicy Thai chili shrimp. By the time the entrees came to the table, I was so full but their asparagus is grilled to perfection and the lump crab cakes were delicious. I was not a fan of the remoulade sauce that came with it but everything else was great. The picture included is my half eaten crab cake because it was too delicious to wait for a picture! I can only say this was a big yawn! If you are a fan of high end Steakhouses this place is a pass. Let me say something right up front. I believe that restaurants specializing in a type or a style of food, need to make sure that the star of the show is ... the star of the show! If everything is perfect "except" the house signature steak comes out warm (the backed potato was much hotter) and bland, then the whole experience is a failure! The positives ... Julianna our server was smart, friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. She could not have done anything more to make the experience better. The appetizers were very good, the salad was good, the drinks were good, the bread was .... Absent! Not sure they even have any! I am probably spoiled by the Shula's Steakhouses that I have eaten at and expected the Shula's 347 Grill to be the same top shelf experience. Now to be fair Tallahassee is not exactly a hotbed of quality Steakhouses. But $300 for dinner for two would be better spent elsewhere. We looked forward to celebrating our Anniversary at this high-end steakhouse. I hate to be negative but.... It was not crowded. Unfortunately, it took 1 1/2 hours to be served with our food. I ordered the NY Strip - when it arrived the mashed potatoes were cool. My steak was OK but not for a $50 steak. I took 1/2 home but threw it away when I realized I would not eat it. I just was not very good. I am a Margarita snob and I was disappointed in my top shelf margarita. The Tequila was not my favorite. We visited Shula's while on a road trip through Tallahassee. We got there when they opened and got a nice big booth. Our server was friendly and attentive. I would give the service 5 stars. I had the Surf and Turf, which was 2 filet medallions and 2 scallops. They let me change the sides to mushrooms and the veggie medley. The steak was a little chewy but rare, as I requested. The scallops were done perfectly. My husband had the Mushroom and Spare Rib Ravioli, which turned out to be mushroom ravioli with a pile of shredded short rib on top. The raviolis were excellent but I needed to eat the short ribs with them as the ribs were a little dry. We skipped dessert. It was a good meal for a hotel dining room. read more

In Tallahassee, there aren't many options when it comes it comes to "fine dining." However, I'm not sure if I would even classify Shula's as that. After arriving around 7PM, we were told that the earliest we could be seated was 8PM. In the mean time, we enjoyed a few drinks at the bar and ordered an appetizer as we waited on our table. At around 7:45, I asked about the status of our table and found that the hostess had forgotten to put our name down for the 8PM table. After 15 additional minutes, we were seated for dinner and brought the drinks from the bar with us to the table. I then was asked to show ID after having 2 drinks at the bar minutes prior, I understand "policy" however this made no sense. Went to a birthday recently at Shula's. They over charged me for food that I didn't get. The waiter Chole also took our plates before we were even finish with food. When I told the waiter Chole she was very rude and snatch the ticket. When she came the ticket had "didn't like on it". Still charging me over $200. Rushing us out. I ended up spending a night in tallahassee as I had a business meeting in Thomasville, GA the next day and was very pleasantly surprised to find this steakhouse attached to my hotel (Hotel Duval). If you are in the area (even if you aren't staying at the hotel) and seeking an elegant dining experience, you definitely should check Shula's out. I ordered my favorite cut of steak, the ribeye. It was prepared medium just as I had ordered. They will follow up with you shortly after your meal arrives to ensure it was prepared to your liking. Also, the bartender created a custom alcoholic beverage for me based on my preferences and avoiding my allergies. In addition, the hotel forgot to send some requests to my room timely so they gave me two $10 gift cards which I quickly used to return to the bar for another drink and loaded baked potato. Visited Shula's recently for a Graduation Dinner and although the servers were extremely kind and went out of their way to accommodate me, the face that I need accommodation irritated me. As a Vegetarian, I know that my options are limited at most places I visit, but I expected a lot more from Shula's. As an appetizer, I had the Spinach-Artichoke Dip which was extremely creamy and delicious. It was a large enough size that I was able to share it with a friend. My main issue came with my entree, the only thing on the menu that I could eat was the Spinach Salad, which I was not in the mood for. As I spoke to the waiter about my dietary restrictions before, the chef was able to make me flatbread mushroom sandwich. It was okay, but nothing I'd want to eat more than once. By far the best steakhouse I have experienced in Tallahassee. I always order the filet mignon and it has consistently been cooked to perfection. I love their crispy ravioli and calamari fries.
