Was visiting Tally and decided to have a nice dinner before heading home so late afternoon on a Saturday I stopped by. The place was partly empty except for another table. I was seated quickly and ordered a local beer and sard off with the spinach and artichoke dip. It was a bit creamier than I have had at most places and I liked it. I had a NY strip with loaded baked potato and with asparagus. There were only a few stalks of asparagus butt each one was menu picture worthy and cooked just right. My steak was cooked as requested, the server asked me to cut through the center to verify when it was served. The steak was good, it had a nice cross pattern from the grill on it, however it did have more char than I expected, that overpowered the flavor just a bit. It wasn't anything to return, just the preference of the consumer, I enjoyed it all the same. As I was eating the restaurant started filling up. Even with more people it still seemed nice and quiet, the acoustics of the dining area were done well. Overall I really enjoyed my meal. Shula was a treat. read more

First time here last night to celebrate husband's birthday. We've gone to Shula's in Fort Lauderdale quite often before moving here, so we weren't expecting anything different. I had the crab cake appetizer, it was good, not stupendous. The 8 oz. filet was excellent. Husband had the shrimp appetizer, I ate most of them because the sauce was really good. He had the 14 oz ribeye, no complaints. Our waiter Jeremiah, was very personable, explained a lot, quite attentive. What a special evening it was to be! I knew it would be expensive, but we were DINING. So why only two stars? When I am laying down that amount of cash for an evening, I expect the service to be exemplary and my vegetables hot. We started the evening upstairs at the level 8 lounge so we could enjoy a drink, overlooking the city. There was only one waitress and she was working so hard, hubby went to the bar to get my $12 mojito, a long island ice tea, and drinks for another couple. Four drinks-$50. But we were dining! The waitress seemed grateful that we "served ourselves" bit I wanted to be pampered- waited on- served! Downstairs in Shula's, the atmosphere was not what I expected but it was nice even though the chairs were a bit uncomfortable. The table for 4 was cozy. We ordered appitizers - crab cake for me, lettuce wedge with bleu cheese crumbles for hubby and some type of dip (I've forgotten the type). The crab cake was mostly lump crab meat and was a winner. The sauce was tasty with a little spice. Hubby's lettuce wedge was overly salty and not all of it from the cheese. When I go to Ruth's Chris steakhouse, I dine. Shula's felt rushed. I ordered a special that was supposed to be a sliced delmonico, which is my favorite cut. It was supposed to be sliced and served with a sauce (again- can't remember the sauce type) It came with a heaping helping of garlic mashed that were lukewarm at best. I was looking forward to the grilled asparagus and it looked wonderful - slim stems, charmarks from the grill. But it was not even warm! Our waiter (Roy) seemed to ignore us most of the night. I had to wait to order my bottle of wine- then he had to go find it. For desert - key lime pie for me. It was very good buy great key lime pie is at Jonah's in Thomasville for less than half the price. I just don't get it. I'm wondering if I should go back again-but since this was a Tuesday night date and not at a very "busy" time, my service should have been exceptional and my food extraordinary. read more

Went here for a Retirement Dinner and both the meal and the service did not disappoint. I ordered a petit filet that was the perfect size and the chef clearly knows how to cook a steak. I prefer mine Med-Rare and they prepared it perfectly. Portion sizes are appropriate so do not go in hoping to get a massive steak or abundant sides. Attire is business casual to cocktail. Hotel Duval is a wonderful location for this restaurant. Personal recommendation - make a reservation but get there at least 30 minutes prior and go upstairs to Level 8, have a cocktail and watch the Sunset over Downtown Tallahassee. "Overseasoned". While i have stayed at The Duval many times in Tallahassee, ive never tried Shulas. I did this stay. While the service was quite friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, the word that comes to mind for the appetizer and main course was "overseasoned." I started with the Burrata salad the burrata itself was excellent--creamy and fresh. The cherry tomatoes were crisp and fresh. However the bowl was drenched in balsamic vinegar which overpowered the dish. For the main course, i had the catch of the day, Grouper. The fish itself was fresh and cooked perfectly. I had it blackened. But overall it had a bit too much seasoning. Similarly the smashed potatoes were covered with shredded cheese. Tasty but a bit too much cheese for me. The asparagus--well it was grilled and had no seasoning, so that was nice. A bit of a heavy hand in the kitchen. Without hat, wouldve been 5 stars. read more

Shula's 347 Grill was one of the best steaks I have had here in Tallahassee. Sometimes closer to campus is hard to find a restaurant on the fancier side. Everything is just more casual and that's usually what I am looking for. But Shula's is very nice and you can get away with being more casual or you can wear a dress or dress shirt for the men. I saw both and both fit in with the atmosphere of the restaurant. I do suggest getting the steak because it's a steak house and although it is a bit expensive for the common restaurants in Tallahassee if you don't get the steak you will most likely be paying more money for a side with the other entrees. The steak was very delicious and cooked just the way I asked. We had Christine as our waiter and he was very attentive to all of our needs. Everything we needed he quickly got it and then made sure there was nothing else we were wanting. I booked a graduation dinner over six months in advance for May 6th. Although the room and dinner were perfect , it was ruined by an extra $200 room charge that I was not told about or agree to...in fact, I specifically asked if there was a room charge and Cassidy said no as long as we met the minimum room spend of $500 for our group. I argued with the server and the manager but they said they couldn't do anything, referring to a cancellation clause on the signed agreement. Well, that states a $200 room charge if you cancel which we did not. I was told to call Cassidy the next day and she did she was sorry if she forgot to tell me. I told her I am 100% sure I asked. In fact, I told several people immediately after I booked the details and that she said no room charge if we hit the minimum spend for the Coach's Corner. I was definitely lied to and can't believe no one cares to make this right. read more

Not only great tasting food, but also incredibly friendly staff. Our waitress was very friendly and informative when we had questions about the menu. Often she would make small polite jokes with our table and was overall very charming. The assistant manager recognized us from previously being our waiter showing us he truly cared about providing us with good service, no wonder he was promoted! The food was delicious, we order appetizers of blackened scallops and sweet chili shrimp. I loved both, not even being on for spices. However our table seemed to enjoy the shrimp the best. Next we all ordered steaks, a filet, a couple cowboys, and two spinalis. The spinalis is the ribeye cap and is not on the menu, but I highly recommend it. As for sides, the sweet potato fries are perfect and the asparagus was good, but nothing to rave about. We ate at the bar and I would like to leave a tip for the gentleman that was our bartender: When someone orders a glass of wine, it is unprofessional to pour a 1/4 from an old bottle and then open a new bottle to pour the rest. When I saw him doing this, I immediately let him know that it wouldn't be necessary to finish the pour--trying to be somewhat diplomatic and not to embarrass him-- so I was served a 1/4 glass of old wine and was still charged for a full second glass. My husband and I went to Schula's 9 years ago when it first opened. We were SO excited because we heard it was similar to Ruth's Chris, which we love for special occasions. However, we were really disappointed. Same price as Ruth's but the quality was not nearly as good...plus the service wasn't great either. We swore we would never go back. Then we won a gift certificate at this charity event a few months back and decided to give it another try. So glad we did! From the hostess who sat us to our last bite of dessert, the experience was well worth the price! Wish I could remember our server's name -- he was fantastic. I remember he was from south Florida and has friends who work at Liberty; has been there since they opened. He provided a great wine recommendation and was friendly but not overbearing. The steak was great too...and the key lime pie (which he also recommended), which is made at a specialty shop in Tampa. We will definitely go back. Glad we gave it another shot. read more

Impressed. I usually will not eat in a hotel, but time was limited so I gave it a go. Chad, the waiter was very professional and helpful. We had chicken sate and blackened scallops for apps. Chicken was okay, but the scallops were perfect. Really good mango salsa under the scallops. Dinner: we had the 'cowboy' steak (ribeye with bone) and two 5oz filets with demi glace. Now, the demi glace was gravy. I'm fairly picky about my demi glace, and it was okay. (For the record they had a different name other than demi glace but the description was demi glace). Wine list was excellent, nice selections. Manager stopped by which is always nice. Cost wasn't bad, around $200. A wonderful GRADUATION TREAT. So nothing was going to bring this meal down. We drove up from Miami and the family picked this restaurant and we were all very happy. The Hotel was beautiful and the restaurant was lovely. Everyone in Shula's was so nice and happy and walked around with a smile. The food was delicious from start to finish. This special occasion was very special. At the end of dinner the TV was on and they were ready to announce the Heisman Trophy Winner. Having an FSU Grad with us we all wanted Jameis Winston to win and he did. That was the best ending to a great evening. I've never been to a Shula's 347 before but we've been to and enjoyed other Shula restaurants. 347 is a combination of the regular steakhouse restaurants and a burger-type of grill. The menu is smaller. There is a great selection of cocktails and wine, as well as a nice variety of appetizers. We had an issue w our appetizer, but we let them know immediately and they remedied it immediately. So no issues and it was delicious. Our entrees were also yummy with very nice portion sizes. Dessert was a winner too. The apple bread pudding was really big and I'm generally not a fan of bread puddings but this was more dense and cake-like. I really enjoyed it. The service was great. Everyone was very friendly. Overall it was a winner. I'd return if I'm in town again. For fans of regular Shula restaurants, keep an open mind though. Smaller menu selections. read more

My husband made reservations for my birthday, there were only 5 tables seated in the dining room when we arrived yet we were seated in the bar area. There was one person at the bar when we were seated.so tje servet was not overwhed. We ordered drinks and our meal. I had finished my drink and was not offered another until we had almost finished our meal. We were never offered bread, after 20 minutes of being seated I asked for some bread as we were famished. It arrived after our meals were served. My husband made it known when he made reservations that it was my birthday yet we were never even offered dessert sfyer our meal. The meal was acceptable but nothing to write home about. After this experience, I truly do not understand why anyone would spend that kind of money considering the food was mediocre at best and service was lacking. I will never return. read more

What's with all the four star reviews fellow yelpers?! Places like this are the reason five stars even exist. I've never seen so many reviews claiming perfect food, perfect service and awarding only three or four stars. The only explanation I can come up with is that people have increased standards for an establishment as soon as it's been deemed "fine dining." But c'mon people. This is yelp, not the Michelin Guide. And if you really do know where to get a better steak in Tallahasse, why would you not say where? Trying to keep it all to yourself? In any case, in my experience with Shula's 347, the perfect food and perfect service I have received leave me no choice but to give five stars. In Tallahassee, this is "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Ever since my first experience being served by Angel the bartender, I will always sit at the bar if it's just me and my girlfriend or request to have him serve me at a table if he is available. Even sitting at the bar, the level of service is not compromised in the slightest. In fact, Angel has provided some of the best service of anywhere that I have dined, not to mention a damn good martini. As for the quality of the food, I have only ever ordered the NY Strip but it's always been cooked to perfection and with two sides included easily justifies the $36 price tag, especially once you take into account the atmosphere and service. The steaks are actually the same as those served at Shula's original steakhouses. Shula's 347 is supposedly just one step down from the Steakhouse but having been to the original Shula's as well as 347, for the $20 extra you will pay for the same steak at Shula's, I can assure you, you're not missing out on much if you choose to dine at 347. If you're a fine dining purist then, yes, you may prefer a less casual fine dining spot but to me perfect food and service will make up for a lack of white linens and bow ties any day. And in Tallahassee, I'm not sure white linens and bow ties are really necessary to be at the top of the fine dining class anyway. P.S. After you've eaten steak till you can't take any more solids, the Angel Kiss martini makes a perfect liquid dessert. read more

Chef Nick created a custom vegetarian Indian small plate appetizer menu for our bachelorette party. The bride is from India and thought we had brought in catering from her favorite Indian restaurant because the seasonings and the items were so well prepared and authentic. The presentation was exciting, at the rooftop terrace at sunset (graciously, Level 8 worked to allow Shula's to serve us -- my mistake, you are supposed to make catering requests through Level 8 if you are eating on the rooftop terrace! Thank you so much Chad!) I have to mention how flexible and considerate the chef and staff were at Shula's and Level 8. Our plans changed several times and they made it work for us even with very little notice. Also, even though we were a very small party, they treated us as if we were very important and came up with samosas, curried chicken, several types of naan, assorted chutneys, and two other delicious vegetarian dishes. We had planned to eat dinner later on, however, the "small plate" presentation was so filling we canceled our dinner reservations. This our third time and it was different. The service is impeccable with lots of personal attention. But unlike previous visits the steaks were below what we previously experienced. The strip was tough and not flavorful. The filet had a slight grainy character. I wonder if the meat is from a new source or did we just hit an off night. read more

My first time in Tallahassee where we got a high recommendation to try Shula's at the Hotel Du Val. We had drinks upstairs at the Level 8 Rooftop bar to start with views looking west over Tallahassee. Frankly, the hotel Du Val is a "long-in-the-tooth wannabe version of the W Hotel and this theme followed through to the bar and restaurant as well. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Pretty much the only reason for the three stars....otherwise it would have been a 2 1/2. We began with a lovely lump meat crab cake followed by the anchovie-free Caesar Salad....so it wasn't really a Caesar. My husband had a pecan crusted salmon that was a little dry and not crusted but rather topped with sliced pecans. When we pointed out this to the waiter, he said that the chef calls this "crusted". What can you say to that? I had a small filet mignon and King Crab leg meal with a side of spinach. The filet was not tender and the crab legs were not tasty....lots of nots here I know..... it was just so NOT! Cute little town but not much for dining. Finding a restaurant open on Sunday nights leaves you with pizza joints and chain restaurants. read more
