It was a declaration -- that this land has a story older than any espresso machine, and somebody here understood that. That understanding alone earned my curiosity and my respect before I'd even stepped through the door. "The name carried the weight of a people who never bent. That's the kind of legacy worth building a roastery around." Then I learned the story behind the man behind the roaster -- and it only deepened my respect. Luis Arteaga came home from serving in the United States Marine Corps and did what so many veterans do: he looked for work. No fanfare. No red carpet. Just a man with discipline in his bones and calluses on his hands, trying to find his next mission in a civilian world that doesn't always know what to do with people like that. He found his way to the original owners of Calusa Coffee Roasters. They saw in him what the Corps had always seen -- dependability, grit, and a willingness to learn. They gave him a job. A floor to stand on. And Luis did what Marines do -- he didn't just fill a position, he grew into something greater. Over time, through sweat and dedication and an unmistakable passion for the craft, he rose to become the owner of the very roastery that once took a chance on him. That's not a business story. It was about 11:30 AM on a Saturday and there were a couple people from me so it took me nearly 10 minutes to place my order just for them to tell me they were out of mocha lattes and pretty much any flavored lattes.

They had the nitro tank and all. Today's coffee was from Guatemala and Indonesia. We had an amazing "tres leche" cold coffee, served with some sugar, which for me was the perfect amount, and sprinkled nutmeg on top. So flavorful, and hits the spot. We also had a hibiscus, lime mixed, with jalapeño, YES, jalapeño. This drink was not only beautiful, but also delicious. Served cold and so refreshing. I could taste and smell the aroma of the hibiscus while I enjoyed the spicy jalapeño. Was so gooooood. Wonderful service of one of the guys with a huge smile on his face, plus their prices were great. Totally affordable and more than good for the quality of their coffee. Thank you guys!

From the time I ordered to the time I got the coffee it took 20 seconds. How is this possible? I have a really nice espresso machine at home and there's no way I could be serving cappuccinos in 20 seconds. Regardless, the proof is in the taste which was absolutely terrible and the temperature which was lukewarm. It was like stale 7-Eleven coffee at best. Blech. Lame and unacceptable. One star. Lol One Saturday after a horrible breakfast experience, we decided to do another drive by and noticed the doors open. So we parked and proceeded to go in. We were immediately greeted by Manny, the owner. He had just opened up and was getting ready to start his day. Felt kind of bad walking in but he was gracious enough to give us a tour of the shop and even explained the roasting process and what each machine did. As if the tour wasn't enough, he even offered to give us a private cupping session. It was so awesome! We learned the proper way to make coffee and had the opportunity to try some. Ended up tasting the Ethiopia and Colombia. The Ethiopia was nice, light, and had an interesting flavor. It was like tea and I enjoyed drinking it as is. The Colombia was also tasty but on the bolder side. Fun Fact: did you know... bitter tasting coffee can be caused by the water being too hot or by over steeping. Delicious coffee... The café is incredibly cozy with a unique, artistic atmosphere. As a big fan of Salvador Dalí, I immediately fell in love with the design. Right at the entrance, there's a giant coffee machine that continuously rotates coffee beans, and inside you'll find a huge portrait of Dalí brought to life with a projector effect. It's such a fun and creative detail that makes the whole place feel like an art installation. I also loved the little design touches, especially the unique chair legs. We sat at a table outside and just enjoyed the beautiful weather and watched people walk around Mizner. Outstanding vibe. One negative, I don't understand is why they won't make any size other than a small. One of the workers explained to me once, but honestly it's still doesn't make sense to me. And because it's just like 12 oz, I finished it pretty quickly. Would have been nice to have some more. Overall, this is definitely one of my favorite coffee spots in Boca. Four stars. Check it out!
