Fast, Professional, and Affordable! I was in urgent need of replacing my front end brakes right before Christmas. After shopping around for a good price, I realized that going to the shop was not an option for me, as all the quotes I was getting were over my budget. I located Robert on craigslist as a Mobile Mechanic and contacted him after reading a Yelp review from a previous customer. The review gave me confidence that he would do a good job, plus he was licensed and certified. I expected that I would need to make an appointment, but I was pleasantly surprised when he answered my call and was available to do the repairs that same evening! Robert quoted me significanty less than the shop rates, although he purchashed the best quality parts. Sorry Robert... but I have to warn people about you. I was going to call you first to try to work this out, but I just don't think it can possibly be worked out. I don't think you're a bad guy... I just think you're a poor mechanic and bad in business. I was SOOO pissed by my experience, that I actually couldn't even bring myself to revisit the topic to even post a review forever (I used his "services" in mid October of 2014)... Which is unfortunate because I probably could have sought damages (maybe still can... but I don't imagine that would be worth it). I'm also sorry to those who have maybe used his services since then and perhaps had a similar experience. So anyway, on with my experience. I was replacing the front driver's-side wheel bearing on my '04 4Runner when I got to the point where I couldn't proceed. I needed to separate the bearing from the hub and wasn't sure how to do it. I was in a pinch because the next morning i was to tow a bunch of friend's camping stuff over to a festival out East SD County. I called a number of places... had many standing by, but went with Robert simply because he said he would be able to come by around 11am... the earliest of all the people I was in touch with. I actually called OFF many others who, in retrospect, were probably much more qualified to do this job. I'm trying to get a hold of him from that point forward, until then I get a call from one of the other mechanics. I'm about to have them come instead. Then I finally hear from him again, and he said he's on his way. He doesn't end up getting there until AFTER DARK. I was trying to get an early start for a number of reasons, one of which was that I figured separating the hub and bearing would require a machine shop... and if it didn't, then pressing the new one into the old hub would certainly need a shop. Long story short, he can't separate them there on the spot. Needs to take it to a machine shop. I give him my old bearing and hub, as well as the new bearing. I call around midnight or something and he says that he couldn't do it, but can do it at his place starting early AM. Clearly this is cutting it short, but I feel like I have no better option at this point. He says to call around 6am or so to check on him so that he gets an early start on it. I call... no answer. I call and call and call until I know for sure I'm screwed. I need to rent a U-Haul van in order to follow through with my promise to my friends, which costs me hundreds by the time the weekend is over. I call all weekend from the camping spot. Nothing. I figure I'm going to have to file a police report for a stolen part. I leave progressively more serious messages, until sometime Monday or Tuesday I inform him that he's left me no option but to involve the police. He texts me, "Your an asshole" Wow. Just wow. If I wasn't pissed before, I was sure as hell pissed now. He finally answers, and I'm somehow able to keep calm. He was pissed because he had been breaking his back all weekend hours on end (allegedly... but with improper tools and knowledge, I actually don't doubt this) to separate the hub, and he feels that I've been cruel and unappreciative... because, ya know, I should have OBVIOUSLY seen all this with my all-seeing eye... or been able to read his mind. COMMUNI-FREAKIN-CATION, buddy!!! Pick up the DAMN phone! You run a business. Act like it! Okay... cooling down again. He says he can put the part on, but he has no money for gas and can't get there. By this point... I'm feeling like I must have been TOTALLY brain dead to have ever considered hiring this guy... but, you know... Yelp reviews! I tell him, in so many words, that I'll pick it up. I don't want him to touch my car... I just wanted my parts back. He wanted $100 for his trouble... whatever, I pay him. I hire another guy, Steve, from Advanced Mobile Auto Repair to finish the job. I could have done it at this point, but I was just too mad to do anything related to that mess at that point. I'm glad I hired him because he pointed something very important out: Robert had damaged the bearing when pressing it into the hub. It was no longer good. Oh, and btw, my truck is in my neighbor's driveway this WHOLE time. I told him I needed it for the day, or maybe into the following morning, and now my truck's been there for about 5 days at this point, and I feel like a real asshole, even though they were relatively cool about it. So I can't wait anymore, I need my vehicle, so I ride my motorcycle to get a new hub and bearing from Napa. I overpay out my butt, and get it buttoned up. Good job Steve... even though Napa sold me the WRONG damn bearing (it fit, but no sensors so now my ABS and traction control are out). I still have the bad bearing and hub so that I can submit them to the BAR... that'll probably never happen, because it'll be a waste of time. He didn't have money for gas, he sure as hell won't have money to reimburse me. read more

I was in need of brakes real bad, and when I called this company, Robert picked up real quick. He said he would take a look at it that same day, and he did! Told me what I needed, and I went to go buy the part. I called him back, and he said he would do it for that afternoon, and he would charge me a decent rate. I was impressed and couldn't be happier. He call himself "Robert the Mechanic" on CL but should be called "Robert the Unreliable" instead. I called him on a Friday to have him look at my car on Saturday. He said call the Saturday to confirm. I call him Saturday morning at 9 a.m and he confirms that we are still on between 12-1 p.m. He never shows up and there was not courtesy phone call or text. He totally ignored me. It is now Monday and he still has not called to apologize. He might be a great mechanic but only when he can show up. Unless your time is worthless, I will not ever do business with this person. read more
