    French dip sandwich

Stopped here for lunch and OMG sooo good! I had the French Dip sandwich, the best I've ever had. Friend had Brussel sprout salad, she loved it. Shrimp pasta was great! Highly recommend.

Great spot, historical and chill vibes. Fantastic martinis and excellent food. The pork belly was hands down some of the best I've ever had. Great service!

Very beautifully decorated downtown French restaurant. Had a reservation for a party of 10 for a birthday party, and this place did not disappoint. Everybody at the table loved their entrées. My wife Pam had a short ribs, and I had the pork chop dinner. Service was amazing. Food was prepared to perfection. We just had an excellent time. This was our first time at this restaurant, and it definitely will not be our last! Five stars all the way!

We will be back simply for the ambiance and the service. Our server was amazing! Kind and gave us great recommendations. However, I've had better french food. The quail was a little overcooked, the chicken francaise was soggy? Not sure if it was supposed to be like that or not. The riesling wowed me, a little bit on the drier side but still sweet enough for a good balance.

    Shrimp Provençal

Finished out 2025 with dinner at 39 Rue de Jean. We started with 2 types of Moules (mussels) - Mariniere and Provençal. They were both tasty but the Provençal, which was a spicy tomato base was my favorite. My bf got the Steak Tartare as an app, which was not his favorite. For my entree, I split the Shrimp Provençal, which was a shrimp pasta with a similar sauce to the mussels and a caesar salad. If you filled up on Moules and bread like me, this was a great option. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well.

Wonderful service and amazing food! I will be thinking about the potato soup until I can go back to get more.

Dinner at Rue de Jean was nothing short of indulgent--crisp Sauvignon Blanc, truffle potato soup, grilled lamb porterhouse with sweet potato mash and Brussels sprouts, and a warm crumble aux pomme to finish. A meal worth savoring, from start to finish. Our server was amazing! Very attentive and personable. He really made our experience enjoyable.

Classic French food delivered flawlessly. The mariniere that came with my mussels was so rich and tasty I wanted to take it home. My wife's french onion soup was everything it should be, if a bit heavy on the cheese in her opinion (I disagree, there is NO SUCH THING as too much cheese.) Her escargot was in a luscious garlicky sauce that, again, we were fighting each other for the opportunity to sop it up with the bread service. The warm cheese fondue was amazing and is highly recommended. Service was attentive and enthusiastic. Our dining partners asked whether they bar had blue cheese stuffed olives, as they love them in their dirty martinis. The server said no, but she would stuff them herself. Unheard of! I also was a bit of a challenge, as I asked if the bar had the makings of a sazarac (I was on vacation, after all!) but I made it very clear that it was okay if not and gave her an alternative drink order if the bar didn't have the needed ingredients. While what I received was not EXACTLY a sazarac, the fact that they tried -- and came close -- was very much appreciated. Overall, there were few things that were not just spot-on excellent. 39 Rue de Jean is on our agenda for our next visit to Charleston.

    Artisinal Smash and Manhattan
    Laura S.

Started dinner off with two great cocktails: artisanal smash and a Manhattan. They bring out a fresh hot loaf of French bread with butter that was so delicious. My husband had the onion soup which he absolutely loved and I got the small goat cheese salad. I love that their apps come in small and bigger portion options. My small salad had one small goat cheese croquette but it was the perfect size to satisfy me yet leave room for my spinach and garlic ravioli. Ravioli had Cream sauce but not too heavy. My husband had the crispy pork belly app for dinner and was totally in love with it. We sat at a small 2 person table but there were a few groups there. Good size bar and on the way to the bathroom I saw another bar in a smaller room. Maybe for private parties or when they're busy/ spillover

My favorite French restaurant in the USA. I don't make that statement lightly. Just landed at the airport and came straight here for an early dinner. The rabbit is my personal favorite. I really enjoyed the truffle potato soup....the truffle and crème fraiche flavors really come through. Thanks team! P.S. Also a great place for a fancy cocktail if you're downtown.

    Coq au Vin
    Justin J.

Had a really fantastic meal here, but a few things just weren't perfect. The cheese plate was good but didn't come with nearly enough bread to try all the cheeses properly. I had the coq au vin which was really good but not quite as rich as I have had in the past. I ordered asparagus which never arrived (I forgot to check to see if I was charged for them). The tables were very close together and the room was extremely loud, hard to talk in there, and the ceiling was stained up badly like there was a flood years ago and they never repainted. Service was good, I was served by Nick. Desert was really amazing! Overall I would return here again and I thought the price was good for the area too. J.Ja

Rue de Jean, it has been a while since our last time coming for Sunday Brunch!! Rue opens at 11am on Sunday! Manager and Host welcomed us at the door and they were very welcoming and pleasant. The atmosphere is always upbeat and great music playing in the background. Cool Bar area as well bartenders! We started with our Soups, French Onion and the Potato Soup. I thoroughly enjoyed my Potato Soup, excellent flavors!! Of course everyone else had the French Onion Soup and loved it!! Our main courses came out promptly and we had Crab Eggs Benedict with Pomme Frites, Short Rib Reutine with Pomme Frites, and two of us had 10 oz Burger with Truffle Pomme Frites! Wow amazing everyone enjoyed their brunch!! Easy 5 Stars for Rue de Jean!!

A variety of delicious menu items!! All yummy!

What went well?? EVERY SINGLE THING!! I've been here before, but my husband had not. He had family in town, and one member is in a wheelchair. I called ahead to see if they could handle us. They were so polite and made fabulous accommodations for her! We enjoyed delicious cocktails 1st (Not Spritzin Around was my favorite, like an Aperol Spritz on steroids) and I enjoyed 2 with brunch! We all enjoyed our dishes. They were all perfectly cooked and delicious! It was my 1st Croque Madame and it did not disappoint! My egg was perfectly runny!! The rest of the table raved about their food as well!! We loved the atmosphere, sort of French and Charleston mixed together in one cohesive spot! We plan to return many times!!! Kudos to Rue de Jean!

The space alone is worth a visit -- soaring high ceilings, stunning architectural details, and a beautifully designed bar that immediately sets the tone. It feels grand without being stuffy. We were seated right away in a large semi-circle booth that was both cozy and spacious for our party of four -- the perfect balance of intimate and comfortable. Maddie, our server, greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. We started with a dirty martini, a crisp glass of Sancerre, and two Autumn Old Fashioneds -- all expertly prepared. From there, we asked Maddie for recommendations, and she absolutely nailed every single one. Her guidance truly shaped our evening. To start, we ordered the Pomme Frites and the Sweet & Beet Salad. The frites were a plate of crunchy, golden deliciousness -- yes, a touch salty, but in that can't-stop-eating-them kind of way. The Sweet & Beet Salad might sound like an unexpected pairing with sweet potatoes and beets, but somehow it worked beautifully. The flavors were balanced, thoughtful, and surprisingly harmonious. For mains, the Chicken Fricassée was well executed and comforting. The Boeuf Bourguignon, however, was the undeniable star of the night -- rich, deeply flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It's the kind of dish you think about the next day. The Gnocchi Parisienne was light yet decadent (if that even makes sense), pillowy and indulgent without feeling heavy. We also ordered the Market Catch -- a type of snapper none of us had ever tried before -- and it was cooked perfectly, flaky and packed with flavor. By the end of the meal, we were happily full and couldn't even consider dessert. Maddie suggested we at least pop downstairs to check out the speakeasy bar, even if we didn't grab another drink -- and we're so glad she did. I have to give Maddie the recognition she deserves. She was fantastic -- knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely fun. She made an already wonderful dinner even more enjoyable. An absolute delight. Ask for her if you can. If you're looking for a beautiful setting, classic French-inspired dishes done right, and service that elevates the entire experience, Brasserie La Banque should absolutely be on your list.

I loved the comfy chairs we dined in. We were lucky enough to find street parking nearby which is always a plus. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Croque Madame which came with parisian ham, gruyere, bechamel, a fried Storey Farms egg, grilled local bakery sourdough, and house cut pommes frites. The dish was absolutely delicious! My compliments to the chef. My boyfriend was able to substitute his fried egg for scrambled eggs without any issue, but I was disappointed that they would not accommodate my request for egg whites. I ended up removing the yolk myself, which was not ideal. The service was just ok. Our waitress only checked in once and didn't refill our water pitcher, Not what I would expect, especially during brunch. As mentioned above, the food really was incredible and the ambiance made it a lovely day out. We started with the Espresso Martini and non-alcoholic French 75 (my first time) and these were both great. For appetizers, we had the crab croquettes (cakes), escargots and caesar salad. Everything was delicious (including the complimentary bread) , and to our surprise the Caesar salad had a nice crunch with the addition of fried frog leg pieces (if I'm not mistaken). The main entrees were the stars of the night, while we were originally inclined to try their Steak & Frites, our server recommended the steak tips sautéed over mushroom sauce with pasta and this was the perfect match instead of the classical French fries pairing.
