Every time I've been here, I've had a great meal. Space is limited, and you may have to wait, but it is worth it. Their bennies are as close to food perfection as I've had, with how their flavours work together to be greater than the sum of their parts. The food is fantastic! The eggs benny were amazing! Our favorite was the smoked salmon, but the crab cakes were a close second, and even the veggie one was pretty dang good! The eggs were cooked to order and they nailed it. The only thing that we didn't like was that the potatoes were soggy even though we asked for crispy but the rest of the food counteracted that. Great breakfast in Sidney. Could be the best breakfast in town, but I don't know - after my first time here, I keep coming back instead of trying other places. I frequently stay in Sidney on work trips, and generally have one of the breakfast specials at 3rd St Cafe in the mornings. Eggs Benedict are their specialty, the menu has quite a variety already, the daily specials are very creative, and have always been excellent. Half orders are an option, as is an order of fresh fruit to substitute for the potatoes. That is difficult, as both are very good. The staff is very friendly and pleasant, and if you come alone, you might be able to avoid the wait and sit at the counter. The restaurant is very good to overnighting airline crews. read more

My girlfriend & I went in to have my "birthday" celebration brunch and were quickly seated when a spot opened up. Today being a holiday, they were only serving breakfast, which I ordered my favourite classic eggs benny with the hollandaise on the side. Quick service and very delicious. Wait staff were all very busy but not too busy to check in, refresh coffee and to share a chuckle. While we were eating a young father came in & was wanting to order French fries as he promised his little girl some. He told, who I assume was the owner or Manager, that all the fish & chip shops were closed, to which he replied that due to the holiday they were only serving breakfast but he said he would see what he could do (and the restaurant was lined up & busy). He quickly returned to ask if the French fries were for him (the young dad) and he said no it was for his daughter, to which he said then it was on the house! When the fries were ready, the owner/Manager took them outside to where the Dad & daughter were waiting and personally handed the large order of fries to the little girl. Now that is what I call going "above & beyond" and warms my heart that there are those kind hearted restauranteurs out there! read more

I just visited this place and don't really understand the reason of good reviews or line up. Maybe it's the only option available around here. I just had their weekly special omelette and my partner had the eggs benny. Both were just meh, too much salt, greasy, and nothing special. Their coffee was pretty much the weakest coffee I've ever had, and they don't have any Latte or espresso style coffee either. Overall, it's an OK breakfast place, but it's way over-priced for the quality of the food. Don't really recommend it, unless you can't find an alternative. read more

Excellent food..although the potatoes could be a little more cooked/less mushy. Every time we go the service is excellent, and even though there is often a wait, it isn't overly long, and definitely worth it. The whole staff is friendly, welcoming and actually pay attention to everyone. The (daily) feature omelette and Benny are always superb. I almost always choose one of the omelettes - the menu has a great selection. The burger is equally awesome. The one thing lacking is the omission of a waffle dish..which are scarce in Sidney! It would be excellent if we could find one at 3rd. St Cafe. As prices go, they're good, not cheap, but fair. read more

We arrived in Sidney via ferry from Anacortes around noon and stopped into the 3rd St Cafe. It was crowded (a good sign) and we accepted a seat at the bar (actually a bar type seating with 5-6 stools facing the street) rather than wait for a table. The wait staff were courteous and we felt welcomed. Our food took about 30 minutes but well worth the wait! I had a Reuben sandwich and salad and husband had a club sandwich with fries. I ate a bunch of his fries too! What's great about 3rd Street Cafe is the food is prepared with human hands! The cooks are in view and we thanked them too! Very disappointed with service. Food was good, though. My review is based on customer service as I feel that is very important even if the food was good. I was so excited to try out their crabbie eggs benny for breakfast in my mother-in-law's neighborhood. It was busy when we arrived after 9am. I proceeded to put my name down for a table of six and was told that they'll seat us after this couple seated at a table for 4 leaves as they would combine the table of 2 next to it. Minutes go by...lots, then another couple sits down at the table for 2 without informing staff. I just watch but don't say anything as more minutes go by. Then about 10am, a young waitress comes out to tell us our window counter is ready. This place is tight to begin with but my mother-in-law and aunt would not be comfortable on no-back stools, so I had originally asked for a table to seat comfortably. But they gave up our half of the table to that couple. Wrong on their part. So my hubby explained to the young waitress what we had originally requested yet they gave up our seats but the whiny waitress bolted off crying and complained to the other staff about us. Then the owner comes over to my husband and yells at him for making the waitress cry. I went over to speak with the owner and told her how disrespectful and rude she was to yell at my husband like that threatening to refuse our service for making the waitress cry. I told her this was all due to her staff's miscommunication as we did not want to sit at the counter window. My husband explained to her that the waitress was out of line and cried on her own accord (whatever issues she brought to work was all on her!). The owner did apologize and asked us to stay. At this point, we did not want to eat here but we waited this long and if we were to leave to go to another restaurant we would have to wait another hour longer. We sucked it up and stayed coz they moved the couple to another table so that we can get our original tables (as we've already made a big scene, which I don't care at this point). I'm still very disappointed with the overall staff and their customer service. The owner needs to be educated on etiquette and perhaps her staff can take some lessons too. My 12-year-old boys were embarrassed and even said they would never come here again as the last 2 times they came, they had terrible service. At this meal, the waiter didn't even acknowledge my boys to ask what they'd like to drink. They're not chopped liver. Btw, he was the same waiter who told me that he'd combine the tables to seat us and the same waiter that allowed the couple to sit at the table that was meant for us. Ugh! We ate so fast! Never coming back here again and neither is my mother-in-law and aunt who live nearby. Good thing there are breakfast options nearby. Ps. I like how their Yelp page says not good for groups...even for a party of 6 it looks like! read more

We had breakfast in this popular local diner while on vacation in Sidney. It's a small spot with some outdoor seating which is nice on a good day. Even on a Tuesday morning we had to wait a bit because this is such a favorite for locals. Overall tasty breakfast diner food - quite typical selection of pancakes, French toast etc. with a few daily specials such as a skillet mix. We stayed in Vancouver proper for 5 days and this little breakfast spot was BY FAR the best meal we had during our stay!!! We took an early ferry from Vancouver to Victoria and wanted to enjoy a nice breakfast before heading to Butchart Gardens. What a TERRIFIC meal! They are infamous for their benedicts (quite a few "bennies" to choose from on the menu). PHENOMENAL!! Terrific melt in your mouth flavors. I don't know what their secret trick is - but hands down - best meal we've had in a long time. And we LOVED the owner. He was cooking (kitchen is open to the restaurant) and he was so friendly, engaging and joyful. His laugh is contagious. Highlight of our trip!! Rolled into town feeling pretty out of it. There was a 15 minute wait as it was a Saturday but nothing too crazy. The waitresses were all loving life. We choose this restaurant for being close to the harbor. We had some Benedictine eggs and a burger. Service is slow, very slow it took 35 minutes to get our food. My eggs had a piece of eggshell , I ordered a grapefruit juice never arrived . Overall the food wasn't bad but nothing special. Do not come on lunch time if you want to wait more than half and hour to get your food. read more

We've eaten here many times - we're in Sidney often - but this is the first time I've been disappointed. I can't eat potatoes or grains, so I order it without the muffin and hash browns. They always used to put a nice big bed of spinach under the benny, or at least some sliced tomatoes on the side. This time I got nothing. Half the plate was empty, and I saw that the salmon (I had my usual Pacifico) and capers were on the thin side. Then I noticed that my husband's plate (he ordered his Benny with all the trimmings) wasn't full, either. They've pared down the portions and upped the prices, it seems. Unfortunately. As for flavour, it was good, but nothing to write home about, and it used to really be something to write home about. So I'm disappointed, and now I can't honestly say that I know where the best Benny in Western Canada is anymore. I expect I'll have to find a new place. Sigh. read more
