I have gotten tired of going to bigger coffee shops like Starbucks. I have decided to go find a small local coffee shop. Let me just start by saying this place lives up better than the reviews. They have many choices of drinks for those who aren't a big fan of coffee and the food is amazing. The food is always cooked right there when you order it, not like other places that just pop it in the microwave. The atmosphere of their place is very cozy, and clean, including wifi so people can work there. The workers totally make you feel very comfortable the moment you walk in. They just got a new customer and will continue to get more if it stays like this and gets better at the time. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I created a Yelp account specifically so I could write a review of this place. I ordered the blended mango boba drink. I wasn't expecting it to be the best boba drink I had ever had, but I did expect it to be drinkable. Usually when I order any type of mango beverage, it has a distinct yellow color. You can imagine my surprise when my drink was a cream color. It ended up tasting like medicine. I had only had a sip of it when I asked the young woman working the register if she could make me something else because what I was given tasted absolutely nothing like mango. She agreed to make me something else. This is when the owner came out with my discarded drink in hand telling me that mango is there best selling flavor and it isn't his fault that I didn't like mango. I love mangoes, but whatever concoction they gave me didn't taste like mango nor did it resemble something that could have been made from a mango. After a lot of back and forth, he agreed to give me half of my money back. Five Seconds later he comes back because he can't split $3.95. He asks me if I want the other drink I was told I was going to get instead of my money back. I said no. He finally just hands me $2, and I go on my way. Perfect coffee shop to relax in the afternoon and enjoy a cup of joe. They have a wide selection of coffee of which the Italian roast was very delicious. I have yet to try the food but I'm guessing it is made with lots of love since the staff is always so nice and pleasant. Will definitely be back for more! Keep up the good work read more

I recently gave this a try and fell hard in love with this place! Customer service was great up until I complained about my sandwich having mustard and pickles they gave me a hassle but ended up replacing the sandwich. Apparently you have to take a picture of the mistake to have them correct it next time? Good coffee and good food. read more

The Holidays are near. And the 3rd St. Coffee Shop is the place to be. The employees are all friendly. So is the owner Mary. I have been coming to this shop for almost 2 years and have never experienced any problems. It is a great place to enjoy coffee or a pastry before the work day, or come in for lunch or dinner. Right across from the movie theater in the heart of Downtown Downey. And WiFi is FREE!!!! Lounge inside or out. :) (FYI: There may have been some bad reviews regarding the 3rd St. Coffee shop in which I would STRONGLY IGNORE!! 3rd Street Coffee is an amazing cute little shop across from the movie theater. It's a quaint but warm place. The people greet you with friendly smiles and the food is absolutely terrific. There's some amazing sandwiches for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The coffee is really great. I recommend the bagel and Oreo mocha. Nice little coffee spot in the downtown area. Caffe Mocha is my favorite along with a breakfast sandwich, before or after I hit the farmers market is a good time to visit. The coffee used has a good flavor, staff are friendly and help you with a smile. Not to much that it's weird. Sandwiches are handmade, and well made. Indoor & outdoor sitting. Looks very busy on the weekend "nights". Movie theater across the street. read more

The only times I've gone here to grab something to eat is either before a moive or during my hair session next door at Zorina's. I usually get a bagel for my daughter and I grab a muffin. I have tried the Chicken panini and that is also good. Kinda of slow service but overall good food and deserts. read more

Great sandwiches and smiling service in this Downey gem. Small place, but welcoming, cozy and everything is delicious. I have to resist the incredible looking cookies and baked good, but love the sandwiches - turkey, bacon&avocado is the best weekday lunch. Nice choice of bread, toasted or not, and everything comes quickly and on a plate. I like having the sandwich on a plate when I'm sitting in, small things, but it makes it more of a meal than feeling like I'm on the run. Yet, I was able to get a box for my leftovers. Came here because I had an hr to kill before the movie at the theatre across the street started. Glad I did. It has a nice, cozy feel to it. I assume Starbucks was like this at one point before it became a corporate giant. I dont drink coffee. I usually get green iced tea. I saw they had smoothies on the menu. Ordered a mango/ pineapple smoothie and a blueberry muffin. Both were good. Smoothie was thick, but tasted good. The muffin was soft and warm. They heated up for me. Wish I had gotten it when it came out of the oven. I will go back again. Want to try those sandwiches they had on thr menu. I recommend this coffee shop. read more

This place is what a coffee shop should be. I work nearby, so I come often. The staff is very friendly, the sandwiches and breakfast items are really good. For coffee I recommend the White Thunder, really good blended or hot. (Also great fat free & sugar free!) They have a really big menu for a coffee shop. The atmosphere is relaxing, they play really cool eclectic music. Also I think it's cool that they always have a pitcher of water for guests to self serve. I was going in to get knock out of my socks but it fell short, really short. Service with a smile, great. Even when she told me that they ran out of oatmeal and Thai tea milk for my little girl. Ambience ok, Downey parade weekend. Here is where they fall a thousand yards short: They were only two on staff, so I waited for over 15 minutes from ordering to getting my drink. The place was really crowded not good to spend time and chill. There were soda freezers, soda trays in front of the bathroom door, chip racks...etc.etc.. The menu had too much, way too much for one barista/boba/ sandwich/pastry to handle, so needless to say my Chai Tea was the worst. I have been enjoying having a small cafe like this place that serve wonderful lattes and fresh made breakfast bagel sandwiches. I like the feeling when you pull up and you see a bunch of people sitting and hanging around in the front porch patio area and you start to notice its the same people that hangout there saturday mornings. You don't find that in the city / area anymore. read more

I love this Coffee shop it's a small hidden store in Downtown Downey and if you are avoiding Starbucks this is the place you definitely need to try. I love that it is a small store with variety where in reality is great for Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The staff and owners are always friendly and the place has a great vibe. It's always busy during lunch but the wait is definitely worth it. Also, you can call in your order and it will be ready just for pick up. My personal favorite thing definitely has to be their Caramel Crunch cheesecake. It's AH-MA-ZINGGGG!!! If you are into sweets this is definitely what you have to order. Tip: If you go catch a movie at the movie theater in front of the store I recommend buying the snacks here. You will save at least $10 if you do this. read more

First time coming in. Wednesday NOVEMBER 22 2017 around 1:30 pm. Too bad there was a very rude employee working at the time continuing her conversation with her friend and didn't acknowledge us or greet us coming through the door. The pastries and drink menu looked promising and they have free wifi but me and my partner decided to leave after minutes of waiting by the counter for a greeting or acknowledgement that we would be helped soon. Nice little gem hidden in the small streets of downey. It's a great place for paninis, sandwiches, coffee, and such. Both times I've been here the staff has provided outstanding service. They seem to know their frequent customers and that's a good thing in my book, but they're just as nice and welcoming to newcomers. The food is just as excellent as their service. I order their chicken salad sandwich on squaw bread and a strawberry banana smoothie. Both were excellent! I had been trying to satisfy my craving for chicken salad for about 2 weeks but both places I had tried just weren't very tasty or the chicken was dry. The ingredients in this salad were great, and the thick pickles made the sandwich even better! The smoothie wasn't overly sweet and hit the spot perfectly. I look forward to eating here again. It surprises me to have to give such a poor rating for the second time. The last poor review was for the food/service but it was at night so I stopped going at night. This time it was lunch. I ordered a BLT pretty simple. I wanted it toasted. I got a sandwich with mustard/pickles (unaware that was on a BLT). It was a breath short of toasted, the bacon was extremely under cooked. Normally I do not mind paying the high price for Mary's sandwiches cause they are worth it but I have to say for me anyway my last few trips may be my last.
