Went to Santa's first to look for a tree and were severely disappointed by the selection. They didn't have anything above 4' tall the weekend after Thanksgiving. The only ones available were in the pre-cut area starting at $125. Instead of heading home we decided to look for another place close by and were fortunate to find 4-C's. Night and day difference in selection. We wandered around in the mud for at least 45 minutes trying to decide on which tree to get and what size. In the end we cut our own 9' Spruce. All their trees are flat rate, this year was $70 for a Spruce and $60 for Douglas Fir. They had a lot of trees to choose from in either the u-cut or pre-cut. Very nice people working here who told us the prices when we drove in and handed us a saw. While they don't have the gift shop, santa, train, etc. of other places we'll come back next year for our tree. read more

I've never chopped a Christmas tree down, so this was a first! Ashley R. & I are out visiting family in California and they wanted to pick up a tree. I suggested checking out some of the cut your own tree spots down by Half Moon Bay, and this spot was on the way back from lunch and had good reviews on Yelp and great prices. $45 for Monterrey Pines, $55 for Douglas Firs, and $65 for Spruce. You pull up, they give you a saw, and off you drive into the farm.... There are A LOT of trees. The Monterrey Pine trees looked great, but not really like what we were imagining our Christmas tree should look like. The Spruce were nice looking too, but the Douglas Fir trees were HUGE, and we figured we should probably go for the biggest tree around.... With a bunch of indecisive folks wandering around in a massive field filled with thousands of trees, the biggest, finding the perfect tree ended up taking quite a while, and once we found it, we discovered that sawing through our beast of a tree was a real undertaking. As the sun was setting, we got the 7 foot tree wrested free of its earthly bonds, and lugged it through row after row of lesser trees to the car. Getting it on the roof was a bit of a challenge, and I guess the tree farm people were a little worried about us since dusk was upon us -- they came looking for us to make sure we were still alive out there...and we followed them back to the entrance, where they lashed our behemoth to the car and plied us with candy canes. All in all, a very memorable and unique experience, and at a price way less than you'd usually find a smaller pre-cut tree for! read more

What an amazing experience!! I grew up in Florida and we stopped buying real Christmas trees ages ago. Cut trees from Home Depot or Publix are just too expensive. Like $30 for a table top tree? $65 for a five-footer? Really? We started forgoing the beautiful smell and Christmas-y feelings and opted for the dreaded fake tree, which always leaves you feeling just a little empty inside. Practicality sometimes wins over the warm, fuzzy feelings, I guess. Currently visiting Nick's family in California, and they were ready to go for the gold with a real tree. We were originally thinking your run of the mill Home Depot tree, then came across the Christmas Tree Farm concept and were intrigued. When I saw the prices for 4-C's, we kept asking ourselves, "But what's the catch?" For $55, you can pick ANY Douglas Fir on the lot? Are they teeny weeny or something? Nope - they're as ginormous as you're willing to chop down. You could certainly go for a modest 5-6 footer....or you can opt for the 9-10 foot gargantuan beast that we found. I guess the biggest catch is that you really do have to chop it down by yourself, and apparently this isn't as easy as we thought it would be. Nick and I had to take turns but eventually successfully unearthed the Volkswagon-sized tree. Loading it onto the car was another adventure. Recruit some friends or family members, because it's definitely more than a one (or even two) person job. I always say, "Team work makes the dream work." We had such a collective sense of satisfaction afterward! What a good way to pull everyone together for the holidays. And it's so gorgeous and full, all sparkly and decorated in the living room (and nearly hits the ceiling). If you're looking for a quick trip down to the nearest shop to have a Christmas tree shlepped on top of the car, don't come here. We came to 4-C's for the first time after going to Santa's Christmas Tree for many years, and I love 4-C's. They have very nice trees and less crowded here. I can find a good tree fairly easily and enjoy walking around the farm. It is right next to La Nebbia Winery so it is great to spend the afternoon here for tree cutting and wine tasting. Also picnic area available with lots of chairs/tables and bocce balls! It would be a good family outing event for BYW picnic foods, winery visit, and Xmas tree all at one spot. FYI they don't have noble fir for you to cut and they are all pre-cut. But they have a lot of Douglas Fir! Price is also cheaper than Santa's which is great. read more

Four C's saved our hunt for the perfect Christmas tree this year. They have a huge selection of Monterey pines and for only $40 ($15 less than competitors). Staff was extremely helpful and even let us know that they had guys that could help us with electric saws if it got tough. We opted for the hand saw which was provided at the entrance. In years past we've gone to Santa's Tree Farm, but their lack of Pines this year left us disappointed. Coming from Hwy 280, down the 92 we decided to drive just a bit further in hopes of finding a U-Cut farm. Just a short 1/2 mile down we found the Four C's Farm. Thank you for saving our family tradition of cutting down a Pine for Christmas. Our tree is the focal point of our living room and I get a warm fuzzy feeling waking up each morning to the smell of pine. Merry Christmas. read more

We've been coming to the field for at least the last 12 years judging by the age of our oldest. Super nice family and tree helpers. WE understood prices bc of transportation this year - paid $150 for a 8-9 footer. We support them, so no prob. But, our tree died in exactly one week - Bought on 12/2, dead as can be by 12/10. Not by a heater, fireplace or window - same place as always and it was in the stand and watered immediately and constantly, along with the solution they sell. Water never was low. What a bummer. Now the ornaments are falling off left and right. I happened, not as fast two years ago. Maybe it's time to switch to an artificial. Chalk the dead tree to 2020 I guess. read more

It's our first Coastside Christmas and we didn't know where to go for a tree. We visited 5 locations (2 U-cut farms and 3 roadside stands) before finding out about 4-Cs. The U-cut farms were more geared toward families, with trains and such, and the actual trees there were over-priced and VERY POORLY PRUNED. We walked around one of them for over half an hour just miserable because we couldn't even find a single contender. Despite the name of this farm, I really doubt it has Santa's seal of approval. The roadside stands all had nice trees, but they were either very small or $300 for a NOBLE. Le sigh. We made the decision to check out 4-Cs as a last resort and if it didn't pan out then we would head to Los Gatos. Luckily for us, 4-Cs literally had way too many trees to choose from and they are all GORGEOUS firs and spruces. The firs are perfect cone shapes...Full...No bare areas...Just beautiful fricking trees. We bought an amazing 8 or 9 foot tall Doug Fir for $55 (I think) and the women who took our money were the friendliest people we met all day. SUCH A SUCCESS! They did not have many un-cut trees to choose from (which they warned us about when we pulled in) but they had a lot full of beautiful pre-cut, which we ended up going with. We live in the City but happened to be down in HMB over the weekend and stopped for a tree. This lot does not disappoint. Best lot we've been to in years. GREAT selection of very fresh pre-cut trees. (Can't speak for those you cut down yourself as this is not our thing) Most were A quality trees and lots of A+ trees if you hunt. Reasonable too. Cost was about $50 cheaper than we expect to pay in the City...it cost us about $90 for a 7' tree, instead of $140 which we paid last year at lot on Kirkham and 7th Ave. read more

We stopped by Santa's Tree Farm first, and while it was fun, the trees were slim pickings on a traditional Christmas tree. Now remember, real trees are not perfect! But when we got to 4C's almost every tree was perfect in the U-Cut sections. It was hard to decide but we found one! The staff were nice. They helped us trim the trunk and first couple layers of branches (cutting with a saw is hard!). We were in and out. We always bought Christmas trees locally, already cut and expensive. We came to the same place yesterday tried to get one. They didn't have any big tree as we wanted. We decided to take a trip to Halfmoon Bay. We thought they would also sell already cut trees there. Surprisingly, there were some places with "cut yourself trees". We stopped at 2 other places before heading to 4-C's Christmas tree farm. A bit disappointed from the previous ones where they had not good shape trees or the prices were high. We found what we wanted in 4-C's CTF: 6-8 feet trees in beautiful shapes. They have plenty sizes in 3 different types of Christmas trees. Prices ranged from $45-$55 if you cut yourself. They lended us a saw. If we count the gas and toll fee (we drove across the bridge), the total price would become higher for the tree. But it was worthed. We enjoyed the "hunting tree" time in such a big farm. Our kid had a great time running there, seeing her daddy to cut down the Christmas tree. I wondered why there was not any recent review for 4-C's farm. You won't disappoint to come here. read more

My only concern was e wry tree in the lot I was looking cost $75.00-size didn't matter. Well, my tree didn't last long. Once it got cut, it died. 5 Star experience on our taking pics chopping down the tree. Minus stars for the misleading sign and overcharging. Just picked up a Douglas fir tree (we assumed because we have pictures in the lot next to the sign that says "Douglas fir"). Brought the car around to return the saw and pay, and the lady Jennifer said "that's a spruce so $65 even". Confused, we continued up to the counter and the lady said it looked like a spruce but not sure... and then she asked Jennifer who confirmed its a spruce. Misleading signs are frustrating :( I'm not bothered by paying $10 more. What bothers me is that there were some Caucasian people in front of and behind us who said what tree they got and weren't questioned. That is really frustrating. We're in the Bay Area and don't expect this kind of service :( Would I come back? 1st tip: Don't get your tree early. Our Norfolk pine is losing its needles after 3 weeks (with 5 days to go 'til Xmas). We cut an inch off the trunk when we got it home, but it barely drank water. I've since read online that this is typical for Norfolk pines. Fun experience sawing down tree. All trees are the same price, whether they are 3' or 8', so our Norfolk pine was $55 even though it's about 3 and a half feet high. (Somehow, I didn't get that.) But we wanted to support local agriculture, so we did it anyway. I wish Balsam firs grew in California so we could get a tree with the scent we associate with Christmas trees! read more

So we found 4-Cs got a great tree, pics and help BUT the next day we had bugs, bugs everywhere! Flys and roley poli's! We had to get rid of the tree right away! It pains me to have to write this as I don't like to ever give a company a bad review but I feel compelled. We wasted a lot of time and money on our tree this year which is frustrating. We even called yesterday multiple times to discuss this with them and NO ONE has called back...Beyond upset about our Christmas tree!!! OUR TREE IS DEAD! 2 weeks after buying it. It's almost brown and it completely stopped taking the water. We even took all the decor off, flipped it on its side and re-cut the bottom a few days ago. We are praying that it looks somewhat nice for our huge Christmas party this weekend. What a complete bummer!! Choosing and cutting our own tree was a tradition I grew up with, and one I wish to continue with my kids. It's so much fun. The kids can get involved in the hunt, you feel more part of nature, and you know exactly what your tree will look like without waiting for it to settle (as opposed to cutting open half a dozen netted trees in a hardware store parking lot, only to discover a shark bite taken out of this one and several snapped limbs on that one). The trees are fresher, they smell better, and they last longer. Four C's has a great selection of excellent trees. Pre-cut Noble Firs; everything else, you cut. This year, the staff recommended a spruce tree (they just started selling them last year). Not as dense as Doug Firs, yet not as airy as Nobles. A good cross between the two (and at about half the price of a similarly-sized Noble). We are very pleased with our tree (worth noting, the spruces are a bit prickly). Let Santa's Tree Farm swallow up the kitsch crowd... unless that's what you want. If so, you can stop up the road at STF for pictures. But come to Four C's to get the tree. read more

We cut a 8 foot Norwegian spruce at the 4-C's. It's a great tree ... well shaped and absolutely beautiful. They even gave us a saw so we could cut the tree down. Their staff carried the tree from the field, wrapped it, and loaded it into the car. So very helpful! This tree is so fresh it's going through a gallon of water a day! It will still be fresh and lovely on Christmas Day and might even be fresh until Epiphany. Last year's tree lasted until Epiphany! read more

My family and I have been buying fresh trees at 4-C's farm for the last 7 years. Our very first Christmas was so incredible that we didn't want to throw it away. The tree simply filled our house with Christmas. However, over the years, the quality of the trees have been a disappointment. The trees dry out faster and no Christmas tree smell . The worst part is always the money you have to pay because it's expensive. Yeah, we could go to Costco or Home Depot or a Christmas tree lot by the mall but we want to support local farms which means-you pay a little more. We don't mind the "more" part but the quality has to be there, right? This past year, the same size and kind of tree set us back $145. This year, we're looking for another tree farm that can give us that same memory of 7 years ago.
