Just a few minutes from the coast, it's the kind of place that makes you slow down the moment you walk in. I went with a very sensible gardening mission: buy lavender plants to attract pollinators for my Meyer lemon and Bearss lime trees. Very practical. Very responsible. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Then I opened the door. The scent of fresh lavender was incredible. Not the artificial fragrance from candles or room sprays, but the real thing. The entire greenhouse smelled like a spa, and my quick errand immediately became a leisurely wander. The shop is beautiful, with healthy plants, gorgeous pottery, garden décor, lavender bath and body products, gifts, and more lavender varieties than I knew existed. I found myself comparing Provence, Phenomenal, Hidcote, French, Spanish, BeeZee Pink, and Burgundy like I was preparing for a horticulture exam. I eventually came home with two gorgeous plants, Provence and Phenomenal. Were they more expensive than the ones I could have picked up at Home Depot? Absolutely. Were they also fuller, healthier, and some of the most beautiful lavender plants I had seen? Also absolutely. The staff stayed quietly in the background, which worked perfectly for me because I didn't need help and could take my time looking around without feeling hovered over. There was so much purple and lavender inside - it was great! I ended up purchasing a jar of lavender sugar. I love so much about this place. Sometimes they have a bargain table but if not you can just peruse through their lavender items forever . They have these lavender and lemongrass pumice soap that I will drive the 3 hours it takes from my home to stock up on these metal tins lined with rice paper that are the best gifts ever theyre 12.95 each and they are incomparable not only to get rough black edges and calluses off of of your feet, but to soften and exfoliate as well. They come in seasonal scents My personal favorite is the lemongrass. They also have pomegranate and of course lavender. Every person I have gifted these to cannot ever go without them again! Half Moon Bay Lavender is tucked in between a ton of other little shops on this strip mall. Unfortunately, most of the stores were closed on the day we came, so I was glad to see this one open. They feature plants, planters, and other outdoor items, among other things. I purchased three ceramic figures (2 fishes; 1 frog) that float in water. As Hwy 92 slowly snakes its way from the Peninsula to the Coast, approaching Half Moon Bay, there is a valley full of roadside sellers offering locally grown farm-to-you items. Killing time in this little hollow, one can visit a winery, buy pumpkins, Christmas trees, local honey or seasonal fruits. There are also many greenhouses offering plants of the indoor and outdoor variety. In one section flanked by an orchid specialist and a little shop of carnivorous plants lies Half Moon Bay Lavender. As the name implies, Half Moon Bay Lavender is a lavender-forward shop offering many products made from the aforementioned plant. Lavender can be acquired here in the way of live plants, soaps, lotions, balms, dried bundles, candles, probably anything one could imagine really. In addition they sell pots of the standing and hanging variety and lots of little curiosities. In the back section of the greenhouse they offer a selection of herbs. This weekend we took one of our semi-annual trips to Pillar Point Harbor to buy live crabs off a local fishing boat. The crab season started late this year because whales were taking their sweet time migrating south to Mexico for the Winter and boats were not allowed to drop gear due to risk of entanglement. As a result there was an inhumane line of cars going out to the water on New Years day to get crabs for the table. After securing our crustaceans and taking in the waterfront beauty for a bit we set about returning home to find traffic going back was just as terrible. Stopping at a few roadside stands on the way back really diffused the frustration of navigating this log jam of cars. We ended up buying a live lavender plant and a live oregano plant. Both were priced at $9.95 each. Yeah we could grow these from seed for less but sometimes it's fun to just take something home in the moment and support a small business. We also took away a plant holder formed from wire, shaped like a bicycle. I don't know where we'll put it in our home, but I suppose new years bring an opportunity to reorganize so we will. If lavender is your jam, or you just want to stop the car and get a whiff of something other than spent fossil fuel Half Moon Bay Lavender could be a good place for you to visit. Fabulous store to find beautiful treasures at reasonable prices. The smell of lavender is awesome and the selections impressive. It's impeccable and has a good location and parking which is very important. I picked out three gorgeous wind chimes for my daughters birthdays. It's lovely to look at and has great sounds when the wind blows on it. I highly recommend this store. Finally stepped in and damn do I feel calm AF after browsing around and inhaling all those delicious lavender fumes wafting around the store. The owner is super kind and personable: she walked us through the different types of lavender and helped guide me to what I was looking for. I grabbed a couple sachets to sniff whenever my anxious ass is doing too much at work, and now know to squeeze it gently to release more of the oils and potency of the dried flowers. I came in to get a holiday present and they had a great selection. Everyone was wearing a mask which was great given the pandemic. That plant was $4.95, they charged us $28.95 for it and the other one we bought. In looking back at the experience, what's interesting was that the lady ringing us up said - "oh! You bought the most expensive things in the store!" Grooming us to be prepared for the cost. Then when I asked for a printed receipt, she seemed hesitant. Now I know why and it's too late to go back. I felt like I had discovered the lost city of Atlantis when we'd stumbled upon this shoppe! Lately, I have been obsessed with cooking Lavender infused dishes. I've made Lavender shortbread, a Honey Lavender ice cream and even a savory dish - Lavender honey Chicken. So you can imagine my excitement upon walking into this store! It happened so fast I could barely remember the things I had seen! Thankfully I'd taken tons of photos specifically for this purpose - for Yelp. And to expose the wonder of all things Lavandula. Cyndi, the store owner, was so sweet. She gave me some brief information about which kinds of Lavender were (and were not) edible. She seemed to be extremely friendly with all of the guests actually. It was obvious she loves her job and her hospitality and product knowledge will keep new customers (like myself) coming back again and again. She offered everything from fresh potted Lavender to bath soaps. For the avid cooks, edible dried lavender, lavender honey and other items like Lavender syrup. What would have earned this store a '6th' star (if Yelp allowed it) -- a cafe (or tea shop) somewhere on the property that served food infused with this lovely aromatic herb which this place is happily named after. I am so jealous that Cyndi spends her days surrounded with a flower known to provide many health benefits like relieving stress. That's probably why she wears such a huge smile. This place is heaven to me. I walked in and the smell of lavender just took all my stress away. They have so many products made with lavender ! They had honey infused with lavender, culinary lavender, sprays, lotion, soaps, essential oil, omg the list is endless ! I saw this spray and it said refreshing room spray. I had to buy it! It was 3.4 fl oz for 22 bucks which is decent. It's super strong and I freaking LOVE it. The owner was very nice and while she was tidying up, she let us know whenever we were ready. I e I was done looking around, she rang us up and she was super sweet. She gave me a small bag of lavender flower and omg was I grateful for it ! This is my favorite place to find little treasures. It is such a beautiful shop full of amazing soaps, lotions, plants, pots and of course, lavender. I always pick up lavender honey, rose and shea butter soap and culinary lavender here. Today during my visit I was unable to find a product they used to keep in stock. The absolutely lovely woman helping me referred me to the producer's website where I was able to purchase directly from the manufacturer (another local business). While this may seem like a small gesture, it meant a lot to me. The product has healed most of my eczema and allowed me to stop using steroid creams and chemicals. I greatly appreciate the customer service I always receive and the natural, decadent products they provide. I have moved a bit out of the way (near SJ now) and still make a point to make the drive up. The small mom and pop feel, aesthetic and lush products at a great price combine to make every visit feel enchanting.
