His team installed a trench drain and carefully graded the area so water flows exactly where it should. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with, and his pricing was very fair. The project took about a week. Day 1: Digging, adding soil, and grading Day 2: Trench drain installation, more hand grading, soil compacting Day 3: Soil compaction and rebar placement Day 4: Concrete pour On pour day, his crew showed up strong, about 10 people on site by 5:30 AM, even during a heat wave. They worked efficiently to stay ahead of the curing process and used an additive in the concrete to prevent rapid water evaporation, so we didn't need to keep watering it afterward. Three days later, they returned to remove the forms, and Juan personally did a final walkthrough to check for any issues or cracks. He is very detail oriented, and his proposal was clear and straightforward with no surprises at all. He also handles concrete demolition and concrete retaining wall work. We hired Ivan's Masonry for two jobs: driveway renovation and a new stairway with walkway. From onset it was a long journey for us figuring out what material we will be comfortable with. Ivan patiently consulted us on every available material: concrete, stamping, coloring, and many styles from different providers of concrete pavers. None really resonated with our vision. After a month of research we ended up selecting clay pavers for their traditional look and lasting quality. The problem was that no contractor in our area would even consider working with clay pavers. Initially Ivan also refused but with some prodding he actually agreed to install clay pavers and did an amazing job. The team would start consistently punctually at 7 am and worked full days. Ivan, the owner, would work on the job 100%, including operating the equipment and setting the pavers. The site was kept reasonably clean and the process was well organized. We love the results. Our house became the model for the street as a first house with pavers. Many people complimented on the improvements and expressed the desire to contract with Ivan's Masonry. We usually do most of our own home repairs, gardening, and DIY projects. One thing we could not do…read moreourselves was replace our circa 1917 old cracked 82 feet long driveway and widen our 7' driveway approach (with a steep angle of approach designed for a model-T) to a new 12' wide City standard driveway approach with less than 8 degrees angle of approach. We would need a licensed contractor who could work within the City of Alhambra's public-right-of-way. We started calling for quotes in early April of 2014 and A.F.R. Masonry, Alex Diaz, gave us our second lowest bid out of 6 bids. Alex was the only contractor who said he would honor his bid longer than 60 days. The City of Alhambra would definitely need more than 60 days to complete the relocation of a water meter that was in the way of a new driveway approach. I liked the fact that Alex said he had his own digger (to break and haul concrete) and he was based locally in El Monte. His bid price was a definite draw (one of our highest bids from another general contractor was more than triple the amount of Alex's). So after the water meter was relocated we called Alex and he said he was available to do our job within two weeks and could complete the job in approximately 6 working days. The job is just finishing up today and I just had to write up this review. I have been waiting a long time to be able to drive into my driveway without hitting my tires on the curb face. The new no frills driveway is so much more pleasant to look at then our old cracked and patched driveway. The only thing that other homeowners might have an issue with would be that during the construction, the job-site (my yard) was left with construction materials overnight. But I am definitely fine with dealing with unsightly construction materials overnight during construction for Alex's bid price. It all gets cleaned-up in the end. The work was done on time and on budget! Alex did not complain about having to deal with the large magnolia tree roots adjacent to the driveway approach. He listened to our concerns and made sure they were addressed. The craftsmanship of the concrete work with proper forms, slopes, and finish was definitely on point. I am very happy with the job well done.

JRC's Jesse promptly arrived, carefully measured the space, and took many notes on my design. JRC's final estimate was very detailed, and the cost was exactly what I had expected between the other estimates I'd received. I put down 50%, and Jesse said it should take 4-6 weeks. Everything was going well until I realized it was the beginning of June and I hadn't heard from Jesse in 8 weeks. After my calls went unreturned, I emailed JRC's Director of Operations, Stephanie, who replied, "Jesse said he and one of our welders are working on your order, and you can expect completion in about a week. By Monday, we should have a better scope of exact install dates." After still not hearing from Jesse by the end of June, I reached out to Stephanie again for an update, who reported, "Our welder said he expects himself to be done tomorrow. We will be sending it to be powder coated, which just takes a day or 2." Another 3 weeks later in mid-July, with no installation date scheduled, I got a last-minute call explaining that they just had a cancellation and that they could install it today if I was available. Arnie arrived within the spontaneously scheduled window and got right to work installing the gate and meticulously making sure it was exactly right. He even hauled away the heavy old gate, which was very much appreciated. In the end, I'm very happy with the final build and installation, but JRC's communication leaves much room for improvement. I'd reached out to Jesse on a few occasions, and it took weeks to get a single response. A simple message that things were moving slower than expected or that it was going to take 12 weeks instead of 4-6 would have gone a long way. Also, having an actual installation date versus a last-minute cancellation that I could fill for them would have improved the overall process. Thankfully, Arnie left a very strong and professional last impression, as did Stephanie for her prompt and repeated replies. I only wish I didn't have to manage the project after all the missed milestones and awkward radio silences.

The people working there were so nice and helpful. They did not try to upsell me or make me spend more money than I had. In fact they did the opposite and helped me find something that was very economical for my budget. The place is impressive because they have a huge yard filled with all kinds of different rocks. They have everything from volcanic rocks to ones that look like they belong in Red Rock. They also have huge piles where you can haul rocks away in a truck for larger projects. I could not believe that they even sell giant boulders there. This is definitely my new favorite place for any rock or gardening projects. I highly recommend checking them out if you want better prices and a huge selection!

Her prices are reasonable, but her knowledge and experience made her our overall choice. Crystal was always available and patient with us throughout the process. Sometimes we would email her late on an evening or Friday, expecting her to respond the following week. Instead, she would respond that same night or during the weekend and offered to jump on a call if we still needed clarification on something. Also, she explained that with the set price for the landscape design and drawings, it would include any revisions that our city deemed did not meet their requirements. However, our city chose to reject the plans a couple of times because the city did not follow their own requirements. Crystal made the revisions to our plans at no additional cost, and we were extremely grateful for her generosity. We hope that when the city finally approves our plans, that we can work with Crystal to complete the project as well. My wife and I had a great experience working with Crystal and can trust that she does what she says and will go above and beyond your expectations like she did for us. We highly recommend Liu Landscape to anyone looking to start a landscaping project.

The demo looked like it was hell and they made it look easy. I now enjoy a nice clean yard with automated sprinklers I control via my phone. I love the look my San Agustin grass they installed. 2 things about this crew that sets them apart …read more.. 1. Doing things the right way, even if its the hard way 2. COMMUNICATION I came across their Yelp page and decided to give him a call. When we agreed on a date/time for him to come and give an on-site quote, he actually came on time, with a sample of turf, ready to go. I appreciate that. Once I got the ok from the boss (wife), he started the job that week and I NEVER HAD TO FOLLOW UP WITH HIM. He would be calling and texting me that he had a question or suggestion due to something we didn't think about at the time. The photos are actually 2 jobs. Job #1 - Backyard - turfed area & side dirt area. This was a HUGE TASK. The area was so un-leveled that we would have pools of water sitting there after a rainy day. It was IMMENSE to backfill the dirt and get everything setup for concrete/turf. These guys made quick work of it AND kept the area tidy after the end of each day. You rarely see that sort of attention and professionalism anymore. Job#2 - Front yard - new privacy plants & clean up After seeing the work Marcos did in the back, I didn't hesitate to start work in the front. It was about 2 or 3 weeks before the boss (wife) approved more funding for the front yard, she was impressed also. Tried to upload the pictures in BEFORE/DURING/AFTER order with Nest cam photos. His service used to be good, but not anymore. We established in the beginning what needed to be done and the price...but those basics are not getting done anymore. He likes to remind me that he only charged me for part in a sprinkler system. I would have gladly paid him labor but he said it was a ' favor' . At the time I was in poor health yet and still I've had to trim trees and scrubs and still have to pick up what is CLEARLY BLOWN trash!!!
