I want to start by saying that I had absolutely no interest, whatsoever, involving a plumber on our alleged DIY project. But, I also both believe this is where the big box retailers "get you," and I know when I'm in over my head relative to time and bandwidth. ;) And, BTW, the online videos for some of the DIY projects by some these retailers are not, at all, representative of the actual work to be done OR the "right" way to do it. Geez. So, in response to what should have been an easy-breezy sink installation accompanying new countertops, we bit the bullet -- and engaged a plumber. BUT, this was 'the' best decision ... The plumber AND owner, Joshua, told us exactly what needed to be done (Countertop Installer 0, Plumber 1); where the big box retailer went south in their estimate (Countertop Installer 0, Plumber 2); exactly whom we should engage for the prep work (Countertop Installer 0, Plumber 3); and, exactly what to expect and, then, what to coordinate via the countertop installer (Countertop Installer 0, Plumber 4). And, then, the plumber's work was great!!! They were also easy to schedule (Thank you, Alyssa!) and very, VERY accommodating. 5 stars all the way!!! 4 Leaf Plumbing will, indeed, see return business from us. One bit of advice for anyone considering or in the midst of a project like ours ... Don't get upset with the plumber, if/when they bring you "bad" news in the form of additional work scope. (They are doing what they are sub-contracted to do via the big box retailer -- and you would do the very same thing ... and not work at risk or for free, or both.) Go back to the big box retailer; present them with THEIR information; argue your point; and, have the big box retailer make it right. Hired 4 Leaf to do a plumbing repair and replace a shower faucet. Their credit card reader did not work and so I could not pay with a credit card. I offered to pay with a check, but for some reason without the credit card reader Josh could not tell me the amount of the check. I told him to just send a bill, or call me when his credit card device was working again. In the meantime I discovered that the work was faulty and he would need to return to correct it. That evening, while I was at dinner with friends, I received what could only be described as a barrage of increasingly nasty text messages from his spouse, Alyssa. She was demanding that I immediately call her with my credit card info. After many nasty text messages, I informed Alyssa that I was at dinner with friends, that the work was faulty and that I would give Josh the credit card or a check when he came to fix the faulty work. She lost it and started threatening me and was incredibly rude and insulting. I stood my ground and the next day Josh came by, fixed the faulty work and I paid him by credit card using his now functional credit card reader. Josh was pleasant, but did not install the faucet correctly. Alyssa is...not pleasant. I'll never use 4 Leaf again. I have even refused to purchase installation through Lowe's because 4 Leaf is the installer. Hire someone else. read more

Super easy to deal with, and when it came to my situation with my home warranty company and seeing the condition my water heater was in, and with me being a first time homeowner, they had my back from the jump and made sure to put me at ease, and got me taken care of. They were able to upgrade my water heater to a Commercial Grade which is just the bomb, and even though I had a seperate electric issue, Alyssa made sure to call me on a Saturday morning and check on my issue, and wants her to be my first call for issues on the water heater. He did not even take the time to find out where the leak is coming from. Tries to talk me into getting a tank less water heater that "pays for itself" for just $3500. No thanks. After getting $45 service fee from me he says he can talk to get the warranty company to replace the tank. I'm a landlord with multiple properties and have a lot of experience with various vendors. I also come from a prior career of 13 years in customer service. This was a bad experience. My home warranty company assigned 4 leaf to fix a toilet. It was assigned on a Tuesday. I contacted 4 leaf and gave them my tenants contact info to schedule the appointment. They contacted her and scheduled it for the following Wednesday. The tenant wasn't happy waiting that long so she asked me to see what I could do. I called 4 leaf and they advised they were booked, but if something opened up they'd move it up. After waiting a week, they were running late with their 2 hr window and called my tenant advising her they'd be late. She was upset, and told them she was driving and would have to call back. They left her a voicemail, which she forwarded to me. So far, all we're dealing with was a busy company, that was running a little late and called to update the customer. Here's where we fall off the rails. I stepped in to help out. I called the number Alyssa left for my tenant to call back at. Voicemail was full. Tried again 10 minutes later. Voicemail was full. I called the home warranty company and explained the situation. They made a 3 way call and brought Alyssa on the line. Alyssa immediately began explaining how my tenant was rude and no one should talk her that way and she reserves the right to refuse anyone, etc. ( I know this tenant well, she doesn't yell or call people names, she's not rude but she will explain to you in detail how she long she's waited and what it's like sharing a toilet with her kids.) At some point I interrupted Alyssa's diatribe and matter of factly explained ' I wasn't interested in the lecture, but I needed a solution. If it's the tenant they don't want to deal with, I can meet them at the property. I just need to know when someone would be there and I will do whatever they need of me to make it work.' Alyssa keyed in on my use of the term 'lecture' and proceeded to tell me she wouldn't be helping me 'because of that little comment' and I can't speak to her that way and they reserve the right to refuse anyone, and they wouldn't be coming out, etc. Alyssa forgot the home warranty company was still on the line, the people that refer them significant business. First they explained to her it's normal that my tenant would be upset in this scenario. Then they sternly asked her when someone would be out there, and like a kid being scolded by their dad, she reluctantly said 2:30. They showed up on time and fixed the issue. But the lack of professionalism and empathy is unacceptable. read more

Bought a new house and as the previous owner was moving out, his mover ran over the water meter. About 15 minutes later, water is gushing out of the meter box. Could these two facts be related? I think so. Anyway, short story long, I call these guys who had done a small job for us previously as a part of our previous home warranty company and they basically drop what they are doing and get to my house to solve the problem. This should be called Jekyll and Hyde Plumbing. Our first experience, they installed an appliance from Lowe's. Professional, pleasant, did a good job, fair price (set by Lowe's). So when we had a broken pipe, we called them. Big mistake. After stringing us along all day they said at 5 pm they couldn't come until the next morning and quoted a high price, but we were without water and it was too late to call anyone else. But OK, we were desperate and they knew it. The next day, they did the pipe repair, but not the full scope of work as my husband said he would repair the sheetrock to lower the price. Their credit card reader wouldn't work and they wouldn't tell us how much it would cost. The wife called later and told us it was the full price (in spite of not doing the full job) but we said we had a problem with the install-the faucet wasn't working properly (it would turn on, and then turn off as you turned it further, then turn back on) which we only discovered after they left. This is where she lost it. She said to pay first and then they would fix it. We said come fix it and we will pay you then. She threatened us and said it was THEFT OF SERVICES (Nope. We never said we wouldn't pay. Just fix it first). In spite of telling us we had a one year warranty, and without even knowing the problem, she said it was a manufacturer's defect, not installation. (Again, No. It was determined to be an installation problem after her husband looked at it). After ruining our evening with crazy texts (maybe she is bi-polar? Or just Rude.) the husband came out, fixed the problem, and we paid their over-inflated full price charge (although he didn't do the rest of the sheet rock work for which the price was quoted). We just wanted to get rid of these rude people (well, only the wife, The husband is fine-although his work was defective). So, buyer beware. You might get the nice version, or the rude nasty version, depending on the day. If you like Russian Roulette, these are your folks. As for me, I don't expect to be charged top price AND treated rudely. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I also got a bid from another company which I did not use that was less expensive because Josh & Alyssa came in and made me feel like they knew exactly what needed to be done (the other guy wasn't so confident). Josh told me he had done the same kind of work many times before & it would be a piece of cake (I wasn't so sure). I went with 4 Leaf and I am extremely pleased. I work with contractors all of the time so I know how things can go. Josh & Alyssa showed up on time, did the work in the time they said and did a great job. They fixed an issue I had with the hot water to the kitchen, dug through the foundation and re-routed my plumbing (big job). They needed to come back after my countertops were installed to connect everything (which I had already paid for) and they did not hesitate to get me on their schedule and take care of it.
